August 17, 2020 8 AM Update
Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. ๐ฐ Gotta get back to work, well remotely and chase that money. Money buy toys and quite apparently pig feed as I’ve been reading ๐ about lately. ๐ฝ Next Monday is Average High Falls To 79 ๏ธDegrees โฑ๏ธ๏ธ๏ธ. A true sign summer is on its way out. ๐๐ Partly cloudy and 61 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ Calm wind. The dew point is 58 degrees. At least it’s not going to be a real hot day. More humidity though later.
Today will have isolated showers, then scattered showers and thunderstorms after noon. Partly sunny ๐ฆ, with a high of 78 degrees at 2pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around August 28th. Maximum dew point of 65 at 5pm. Calm wind becoming south around 6 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning, which became thunderstorm by afternoon. It was sticky. The high last year was 88 degrees. The record high of 97 was set in 1913.
People are already asking me what my plans are for the week. ๐ณ I’m like I have no idea what my week looks like at this point in the morning. โ Barely even had that first cup of coffee, I had to get milk ๐ฅ and then get the day underway. I’m just swamped these days.
Solar noon ๐ is at 1:00 pm with sun having an altitude of 60.6ยฐ from the due south horizon (-10.2ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 3.4 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐ starts at 7:16 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (283ยฐ). ๐ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (289ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:55 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 4 seconds with dusk around 8:23 pm, which is one minute and 30 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:02 pm. At sunset, look for thunderstorms ๐ฉ and temperatures around 71 degrees. The dew point will be 65 degrees. There will be a south-southwest breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 13 hours and 48 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 35 seconds over yesterday.
Tonight will have scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 2am. Mostly cloudy ๐ง, with a low of 60 degrees at 4am. Typical for tonight. Maximum dew point of 65 at 6pm. Light southwest wind. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It was sticky. It got down to 67 degrees. The record low of 40 occurred back in 1981.
I am already really missing the Finger Lakes ๐ฎ, the earthy smell of silage, cows and fields with freshly applied manure after the second cutting. I like the small towns and some of the odd balls โฝ you meet out there. Maybe not as wonderful as some other states but still spending time in the rural country is wonderful.
On this day in 1977, the Soviet icebreaker Arktika becomes the first surface ship to reach the North Pole. ๐ Now with climate change that’s gotten a lot easier. ๐นAnd in 1982, the first Compact Discs (CDs) are released to the public in Germany. ๐ฟ Such a throw back technology โ now. I don’t know, I usually have all the music ๐ถ I want on my laptop or can download it from YouTube .
A picture perfect weekend on tap. ๐ Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 86. Maximum dew point of 64 at 10am. Sunday, scattered showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 83. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Maximum dew point of 66 at 10am. Typical average high for the weekend is 80 degrees.
