August 11, 2017 Morning
Good morning! Fifth gear, Happy Friday! Three weeks to September 1st. Time flies, when it’s summer. Partly clear and 75 degrees in Delmar, NY. Calm wind. The dew point is 58 degrees.
Not a terrible walk down to the express bus and now we are off to downtown. Smooth commute so far. Sun is peaking out but it’s not expected to last through the weekend. Woke up at like 6:30 this morning, at first thinking it was Saturday and then coming to the sad realization that it is still only Friday. Seems like it’s been a long week. At least I didn’t over sleep.
Today will have scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 5pm. Partly sunny, with a high of 80 degrees at 2pm. Typical for today. Maximum dew point of 62 at 10am. Light south wind increasing to 5 to 9 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies. It was very sticky. The high last year was 91 degrees. The record high of 98 was set in 1944.
The sun will set at 8:01 pm with dusk around 8:32 pm, which is one minute and 24 seconds earlier than yesterday. At sunset, look for mostly cloudy conditions and 72 degrees. The dew point will be 62 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 7 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 2 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 28 seconds over yesterday.
Tonight will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms before 11pm, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between 11pm and 4am, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 4am. Mostly cloudy, with a low of 63 degrees at 5am. Four degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 62 at 6pm. South wind 7 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2016, we had mostly cloudy skies. It was very sticky. It got down to 73 degrees. The record low of 46 occurred back in 1987.
As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until September 1st when the sun will be setting at 7:28 pm with dusk at 7:57 pm. Big drop in daylight. On that day in 2016, we had mostly cloudy skies and temperatures between 79 and 62 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 77 degrees. We hit a record high of 96 back in 1953.
Looking forward to a nice quiet weekend. Besides returning that kayak paddle that is too small and doing some cleaning, I don’t have much on tap. I’m going to sleep in on Saturday and relax. Sunday I’ll go hiking locally like at Thacher Park. I know the forecast from a week from Friday has slid down hill but that weekend still looks good. I’m watching the forecast and will make my decision for next weekend on Monday.
Have a great Friday!
