August 10, 2018 Night
Good evening! Overcast and 71 degrees in Delmar.β Calm wind. The dew point is 61 degrees. Not much to look forward to weather wise this weekend. The skies will clear Wednesday around 8 am.
It’s been a busy week at work with lots of late nights, but at least tonight I left work at five. 🚌 I’m sure there will be more to do come Monday. I’ve come to the conclusion that the more things change, the more things stay the same. But at familiarity with the situation makes things a little easier, although every day has its own unique challenges. If I work hard though I will succeed,🎨 regardless of what set backs may happen in the short run.🎭
Tonight will have a chance of showers, mainly after 1am. Mostly cloudy β, with a low of 63 degrees at 5am. Two degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 61 at 10pm. Light northeast wind. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2017, we had partly cloudy skies. It got down to 64 degrees. The record low of 46 occurred back in 1941.
Tonight will have a New Moon. The Strugeon Moon 🌝 is on Saturday, August 25th. The sun will rise at 5:57 am with the first light at 5:26 am, which is one minute and 4 seconds later than yesterday. 🌄 Tonight will have 9 hours and 55 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 26 seconds over last night.
Definitely kind of a dark evening with the clouds and the earlier sunset. β As noted above new moon tonight, but quite muggy and with the clouds that came in around dusk its just a dark night. I sat out back for a while after my evening walk, although honestly I just like laying in my bed while I think about the day that was and jot my thoughts down in this blog post. I was down at the park for a while this evening but it now sure gets dark early this time of year.
Tomorrow will have showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly between 1pm and 5pm, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 5pm. Cloudy β, with a high of 73 degrees at 2pm. First day that hasn’t reached 80 since June. That is a pretty remarkable record. Quite cool even by August standards but still fairly muggy. Eight degrees below normal. Maximum dew point of 67 at 5pm. North wind 3 to 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 78 degrees. The record high of 98 was set in 1944.
Looking ahead to Sunday, a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 78.β North wind around 5 mph becoming east in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. Maximum dew point of 68 at 5pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 81 degrees.
It seems like a good weekend to stay home. I have no real plans for this weekend except visiting my parents on Sunday. 🏡 Maybe walk down to the library for internet time and do some cleaning tomorrow but that’s it. I’ll let Big Red sleep in for the day. I hate to waste away the limited summer that remains but the weather doesn’t look that great. Maybe I’ll go for a walk out to Five Rivers – always a pretty good hike out there along NY 443. I hate to drive when it’s unnecessary.
I still want to do some weekend trips before summer is exhausted, βΊ but not this weekend. There are two more summer weekends before Labor Day Weekend. That said, I do enjoy all those things autumn brings, especially the clear crisp days of November. β²November really is my favorite month of the year. I’m hoping for another relatively mild winter so I can travel and camp a lot of the winter this year. βWe will see how things go this year.
In four weeks on September 7 the sun will be setting at 7:18 pm,🌄 which is 44 minutes and 57 seconds earlier then tonight. Once September comes around the sun sets much earlier. In 2017 on that day, we had thunderstorm, thunderstorm rain, rain, drizzle, shallow fog, patches of fog, mist, mostly cloudy skies and temperatures between 70 and 50 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 76 and 55 degrees. The record high of 96 degrees was set back in 1945.
