I am really on fence about today’s weather 😕 so I’ve decided to put off hiking Platte Clove Road for the weekend. It looks like they still have some snow and ice in the Catskills and I am tired of tromping through the snow, especially when I can just walk on the rail trail locally and not burn any gasoline. ⛽

Saturday was a fairly nice day, although it took a while to clear out. There was a lot of wildlife at Five Rivers Environmental Education Center 🐸 and only a modest number of people there which was good. I actually enjoy walking 🚶 out there better than driving 🚘 as walking is a vastly more immersive experience. It’s really only a half hour or so walk from home, not bad at all although part of NY 443 walking out there is pretty narrow.

I went to my niece’s birthday party 🎂 which was like any other party for a three year old. I did not like driving on the Northway or after dark but it’s always good to see family 👪 and spend time with mom and dad, especially as they continue to age. While I hope they are around for many more years, things not that far past show that might not certainly be the case. So many speed traps yesterday. Maybe I don’t see them much as I rarely motor, especially not on the big urban expressways.

I got home and did my evening walk last night. 👢 I’ve put a lot of miles on my boots this winter but that’s good as walking is good for health and I like exploring my neighborhood on foot. Motoring kind of gives you a false sense of the world. 🌍 Plus every mile not driven today is an investment in my future.

I was thinking last night about how little I know about my future 🔮 but how important it is to save for my future. It’s going to take time to get there and the math looks scary today but people have done it in the past and I believe that I can do it myself. 🏡 I heard one of the people that I was in Boy Scouts for many years just bought a house in South Westerlo out in the country and I’m kind of jealous although I could never see being a land owner myself in New York State. Taxes are much too high, regulations too many.

I think the reason my cruise control has quit working and I’m having trouble getting out of park in the cold is the brake pedal switch has gotten plugged up with dirt 💩 and isn’t switching properly at times. That’s the consensus of the internet. Fortunately the part is under $20 and I should be able to easily swap it out after taking a look in the cab of my truck. Cheap and easy enough for even a cidiot like myself to replace. Lots of room around the brake pedal to get tools in and looks simple enough to pull and replace. It looks like Advanced Auto may have it or I may take a bus up later in the week to the General on Central Ave and buy a part officially authorized by the General himself or maybe in the days of Mary Barra, herself. I always liked Ms. Barra, I thought she would be a good president. Maybe install it next weekend as not having Cruise Control 🎮 really annoys me even more than being locked out of drive. I use cruise control a lot when I drive to control my speed to keep me safe from the gestapo. 🚨
