April 17, 2017 9 AM Update
Good morning. Up to 59 degrees here in Delmar on our way up to 63 degrees. Going to be sunny today and after yesterday’s warmth the trees are starting to bloom up in the city. I always like seeing the green. In four weeks it will green up in the Adirondacks I’m sure.
Got home this morning after spending the night in my truck at my parents house, and found my trash can lid blown across the lawn and trash can in the neighbor’s yard. Now that I got to the transfer station and the cans are empty, I need to throw some weight in them, and make sure I kip the lids bungee-cord down nice and tight. Going to continue to be windy the next few days, but at least things are greening up.
It appears that today and tomorrow will be the nicest days of the week, not the days I took off. I’m bummed out about that although I look forward to sleeping in and drinking at home, going trout fishing locally, doing the Pine Bush Dinner on Wednesday and hopefully going up to the Southern Adirondacks from Friday through Sunday.Β I know a few campsites that won’t be muddy on black top roads that I can get up to. May hike a mountain on Saturday. Not going to be a big camping trip to the North Country, but I’m sure I’ll get back up there some time this summer. I have enough time off to take some more long weekends for road trips this year.
I’m still a bit bitter about this but April weather isn’t always great for camping. At least my truck is ready for the camping season although I need to check the tire pressure as I think one of the tires is a bit low — but my tire gauge has been misplaced. I’ll stop at a gas station later in the week. Fluids look good though. If I go up on Friday afternoon, I will be setting up in the rain but things should dry out by Friday evening. It might be a damp and cold evening in the woods, but I’ll have my heater and I can get a good campfire going. I have treated firewood that I bought a while back, so I can burn that the first night along with the paper trash I’ll bring up there.
The sun will set at 7:40 pm with dusk around 8:10 pm, which is one minute and 8 seconds later than yesterday. Today will have 13 hours and 31 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 43 seconds over yesterday.
Tonight will be mostly clear, with a low of 36 degrees at 4am. Two degrees below normal. Maximum wind chill around 32 at 5am; Northwest wind 6 to 13 mph. In 2016, it got down to 40 degrees under partly cloudy skies. The record low of 21 occurred back in 1948.
As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until May Day when the sun will be setting at 7:56 pm with dusk at 8:27 pm. On that day in 2016, we had rain and temperatures between 54 and 44 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 65 degrees. We hit a record high of 86 back in 2001.
