April 11, 2020 Night

Good evening! Clear and 40 degrees in Delmar, NY. Calm wind. Without the breeze doesn’t feel bad at all. Temperatures will drop below freezing at around 2 am. ☃️

Not a half bad day, 🌲did some walking 🚶 in the Albany Pine Bush Preserve and Five Rivers, uploaded a half dozen patches to the blog – including fixing the mobile 📱 site – and broken images. Got a bunch of historical aerial photos that I’ll be featuring in the coming weeks. The photos from 1942 are fascinating but most of them are the Adirondacks and North Country. Going to do some historical comparisons of Moose River Plains, Niagara Falls and other places during the next few weeks – georeferencing old aerial photos is a lot of fun. 🌎 And I went for my evening walk 🚶. Nice starry 🌟 outside, cool but actually less cold than earlier as the wind died down.

Tonight will be mostly clear 🌃, with a low of 30 degrees at 5am. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 28th. Light south wind. In 2019, we had partly cloudy skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 40 degrees. The record low of 13 occurred back in 1874.

Tonight will have a Waining Gibbous 🌖 Moon with 79% illuminated. The Pink 🌸 Moon is on Monday, April 27. The darkest hour is at 12:57 am, followed by dawn at 5:51 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:21 am in the east-northeast (78°) and last for 2 minutes and 58 seconds. You don’t realize how far north the sun rises as summer approaches. Sunrise is one minute and 39 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌄 It’s remarkable how much light there now is in the morning. The golden hour ends at 6:58 am with sun in the east (84°). Tonight will have 10 hours and 44 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 47 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be partly sunny 🌞 but clouding up early, with a high of 61 degrees at 4pm. Four degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 20th. South wind 8 to 13 mph. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 60 degrees. The record high of 84 was set in 1977. 3.3 inches of snow fell back in 1962.❄

Could I go to Papscanee Island Preserve for a walk 🐦 tomorrow in the morning before it clouds up ☁? It’s a possibility I guess and it might be a nice spring day and down by the river things might be greening up a lot. 🐰 That said tomorrow is Easter and I assume Aldi’s is closed which is my primary excuse for going over to Rensselaer. I probably have enough groceries for now although I wish I had more meats and cheeses. 🍖 I could do Hannaford but they’re so overpriced. I’ve gotten into value shopping lately with my always tight budget. Also need to get down to the laundromat soon.

In four weeks on May 9 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (295°) at 8:04 pm,🌄 which is 31 minutes and 35 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had mostly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 66 and 40 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 67 and 45 degrees. The record high of 93 degrees was set back in 1979.
