April 11, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Saturday. Kind of a cold but sunny weekend. Next Saturday is Average High is 60 🌼. I’ll believe it when it happens. I know next weekend looks fairly nice but not sixty. Lately April Partly sunny and 36 degrees in Delmar, NY. ☀ There is a west-northwest breeze at 14 mph. 🍃 with gusts up to 24 mph 💨💨💨. The will make it feel cold but at least freezing Temperatures will drop below freezing at Thursday around 1 am. ☃️

Today will be mostly sunny 🌞, with a high of 50 degrees at 3pm. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 29th. West wind 14 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 32 mph. 🍃 Without the wind it would be quite a nice day. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 50 degrees. The record high of 87 was set in 2017. 1.7 inches of snow fell back in 1942.❄

I was hoping to get to Papscanee Island Preserve for a walk 🐦 and some wildlife observation down by the river but that seems increasingly unlikely as other plans have intervened mid day. Maybe one of these days mid week when the weather is nice and it’s a slow afternoon at work. I’ll just bring the laptop and phone 📱 in case something comes up. Although who knows how busy I’ll be this week – things are picking up at work as life starts to return to normal.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:57 pm with sun having an altitude of 55.9° from the due south horizon (-14.9° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 4.1 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour 🏅 starts at 6:56 pm with the sun in the west (276°). 📸 The sunset is in the west-northwest (283°) starting at 7:30 pm and lasts for 2 minutes and 58 seconds with dusk around 8:02 pm, which is one minute and 8 seconds later than yesterday. 🌇 The best time to look at the stars is after 8:37 pm. At sunset, look for mostly clear skies 🌄 and temperatures around 45 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 13 mph. Today will have 13 hours and 13 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 47 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly clear 🌃, with a low of 31 degrees at 4am. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 31st. West wind 5 to 9 mph becoming light and variable in the evening. In 2019, we had partly cloudy skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 40 degrees. The record low of 13 occurred back in 1874.

In a little bit after I ride the exercise bike a bit more 🚲, I’ll drive down to the library and post the blog updates. 💻 I should also get some more old aerial photos to geo refence. The sun is nice but not the wind 🍃. I could go for a walk on the rail trail but I’m not excited about hiking a crowded trail and later on I’ll probably hike for a couple of hours in the Pine Bush. 🌲

Looking ahead, there are 5 weeks until Average High is 70 🐮 when the sun will be setting at 8:12 pm with dusk at 8:44 pm. On that day in 2019, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 69 and 48 degrees. We hit a record high of 89 back in 1991.
