April 1, 2021 Morning

Good morning! Happy April! Trout season returns again, as does a few weeks of nicer weather before the black flies arrive. 🎣 Two weeks until the midpoint of the month when first quarter tax payments are due 🌼 . Maybe some green then, as April showers make April flowers. 🌷 Or maybe just a lot a sloppy mix of mud and manure with black flies hatching in puddles everywhere. 🐜 It really depends a lot which part of state you are in, although lower elevations do green up typically a bit earlier but have more mud, especially if impacted by hooves. Rain and 39 degrees in Delmar, NY. ☔ There is a northwest breeze at 13 mph. 🍃. Not expecting a lot of snow here, but maybe some icing up with temperatures dropping below freezing at around 9 pm. ☃️ Or maybe the drier air will dry things up before the salt spreaders come out. That’s what the NYSDOT is hoping with their traffic counters still installed on the roads or they’ll be patching up air hoses broke by plow blades.

Yesterday was a pretty ordinary as the month of March came to an end. 🗓 Kind of nice working from home and not having to catch a late night bus home, and then run and get my truck to bring downtown. 🚘 I even managed to get both my morning and evening walks done, as the rain held off and sat out back for a while, including watching that really neat Sonne Farms calving video 🐮 that I posted last night. It doesn’t look like we are going to get much if any snow, although they might get some snow up north. Weekend plans kind of remain in flux with work and everything else — I might stick around town until next weekend or maybe not. I’m not really decided. I can work remotely if I have cell service, so that opens up possibilities. 💻 No morning walk today, due to the rain. 🌧 By evening, it will stop raining. 🏪 Continuing to put off shopping, although I got milk last night 🥛 and I might go to store today as I really want some frozen fruit to snack on. It’s amazing how fast I can make blueberries and strawberries 🍓 disappear.

Today will rain showers before 4pm, then rain and snow showers likely. 🌧 High of 42 degrees at 1pm. 10 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 11th. I do not approve. Northwest wind 13 to 18 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. The high last year was 55 degrees. The record high of 77 was set in 1986. 5 inches of snow fell back in 1924.❄

Solar noon 🌞 is at 1:00 pm with sun having an altitude of 52.1° from the due south horizon (-18.8° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 4.7 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour 🏅 starts at 6:44 pm with the sun in the west (271°). 📸 The sunset is in the west (277°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:22 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 55 seconds with dusk around 7:49 pm, which is one minute and 9 seconds later than yesterday. 🌇 The best time to look at the stars is after 8:24 pm. At sunset, look out for snow showers 🌨 and temperatures around 36 degrees. Breezy, 16 mph breeze ⛅ from the northwest. Today will have 12 hours and 44 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 53 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a chance of rain and snow showers before 7pm, then a chance of snow showers between 7pm and 1am. Mostly cloudy 🌧, with a low of 23 degrees at 5am. Nine degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 10th. Northwest wind 11 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. In 2020, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 38 degrees. The record low of 17 occurred back in 1964.

After the snow, not a half bad Easter Weekend on tap. 😎 Saturday, sunny, with a high near 51. West wind 7 to 9 mph. Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 53. Typical average high for the weekend is 53 degrees. It sounds like it is going to a pretty nice weekend, although it looks increasingly like I will have to work, so I don’t know how realistic going up to the Adirondacks will be. I mean I guess I could to Central New York but we will see how things go. I also haven’t gone shopping as I figure use up the food I have at home and then shop when I have more certainty on my weekend plans.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Quarterly Tax Payments are Due 💰 and the guberment takes all of my money, with the sun will be setting at 7:37 pm with dusk at 8:06 pm. On that day in 2020, we had partly cloudy, snow showers and temperatures between 48 and 33 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 58 degrees. We hit a record high of 86 back in 2003. Not a very impressive record. Maybe we’ll toast it this year.
