I have often thought then when two candidates get more then 40 percent of the vote, the election should be decided by a flip of a coin. This would discourage manipulation of election laws, gamesmanship, and rigging of elections and ensure the majority voice is heard most of the time. It also would have a moderating impact on elections.
As when one candidate gets 49% and other gets 51%, the truth is the majority supports either one of the candidates. The difference between is really just due to rounding error and random noise –Β going between the most two popular candidates ensures popular voices always have a chance to represent us in government.
