Rainstorm on Eminence Road

Got caught in a surprisingly heavy rain storm when I was driving back to camp after a day out bike riding along NY 30 and then swimming at Mine Kill Pool.

Healthy foods and recipes 🍏

You are better off if you cook your own food from basic ingredients and don’t buy so called prepared “healthy foods”. Also stay away from recipes and cooking shows – most are bad advice.

Instead it’s better to learn a little bit about what is healthy, tastes good together and experiment. Cooking doesn’t have to have a million rules despite what the television says. Measuring cups really don’t have a place in the kitchen. They belong in the science laboratory.

The older generation died with their recipes not because they were hiding something but because they were the ultimate in experimenters, cooking based on what they had and knew in their head tasted good, not some recipe they had written down in a book.

If I could only be heading out of town … πŸŒ„

Such a beautiful afternoon, very low humidity. Looking forward to the evening bike ride home, a quick dinner, and then either Five Rivers or maybe Voorheesville on Blackie.

Monday and Wednesday of next week looks good for bicycle commuting, then hopefully Thursday and Friday I’ll be in the Adirondacks.

Why the sell-off in bond markets could impact you : NPR

The Bloomberg Barclays U.S. Aggregate Bond Index, a benchmark that is kind of like the S&P 500 for bonds, fell by roughly 15% — its steepest drop since 1976, when it was created.

This year, stocks have staged an impressive recovery — the Nasdaq is up more than 30% so far. But the bond market has barely rebounded.

That's largely because investors are betting inflation will remain above the Fed's target for a while, which means policymakers will have to keep interest rates high.
