U.S. population growth drops to lowest rate since nationβs founding in pandemicβs first year | PBS NewsHour
US population growth dipped to its lowest rate since the nation’s founding during the first year of the pandemic as the coronavirus curtailed immigration, delayed pregnancies and killed hundreds of thousands of U.S. residents, according to figures released Tuesday.
The United States grew by only 0.1 percent, with only an additional 392,665 added to the U.S. population, from July 2020 to July 2021, according to population estimates released by the U.S. Census Bureau
Fossil fuels are narcotics.
Fossil fuels are narcotics. β½
I bet within fifty years that fossil fuels will be widely accepted as the most powerful and dangerous narcotic ever invented. No other narcotic is as contagious or mind altering as the enengy services provided by fossil fuel. The heat, light, speed from fossil fuels have rewired the brains of an entire species. No other narcotic is as socially acceptable or widely sold. No other compound numbs and blinds humans understanding of the natural world as powerfully as fossil fuels.

Weather Update – December 22, 2021
Definitely looks like it will be cold later β
I think I want to camp one more night. I haven’t decided if I will stay here or head back east to Brookfield for the horse π΄ camp that is more protected from the wind tough I won’t have cell reception there which is nice for passing the time in the cold. Supposed to be real windy later.
Today I plan to hike πΆ around Stoney Pond and some of the Chenango Canal. π¦ Should be interesting to see how it looks in the winter compared to the summer.
Then tomorrow I want to go to Glimmerglass βοΈ and explore the lake and the park. Then head home, before dark. The weekend looks rather stormy and I want to join the folks for Christmas π€Άπ» dinner.

Good Morning – December 22, 2021
Good morning! Happy Days are Getting Longer βοΈ !
I mean we add about 8 seconds of daylight today although maybe it will be fairly cloudy do it will not be super noticeable.
Cloudy and 29 degrees at the Stoney Pond State Forest. β There is a southwest breeze at 9 mph. π. Things will start to thaw out at Friday around 11 am. π‘οΈ
So far the wind hasn’t picked up yet, π but as the sun rises it seems like the breeze is picking up. I could stay at this campsite another night although it sounds like it might be quite windy π¬οΈ and maybe snowy β later on so I’m thinking of heading back east where I could camp a little more protected from the breeze. Red skies this morning.
After cleaning the pilot light, camp stove and just running things hard π₯ all my propane appliances are working perfectly again. The stove and heater are full output, the pilot light is burning cleanly and strong. The key π was to just run things a lot and using a Q tip with rubbing alcohol in the pilot light. I’ll have to remember to keep some q tips and rubbing alcohol in my truck. Good for cleaning cuts too.
