Opinion | How Can You Destroy a Person’s Life and Only Get a Slap on the Wrist? – The New York Times

Prosecutors are among the most powerful players in the criminal justice system. They can send a defendant off to years in prison, or even to death row. Most wield this power honorably. Yet, when prosecutors don’t, they rarely pay a price, even for repeated and egregious misconduct that puts innocent people behind bars.

Why? Because they are protected by layers of silence and secrecy that are written into local, state and federal policy, shielding them from any real accountability for wrongdoing.

New York City offers a prime example of a problem endemic to the nation. Consider the city’s official reaction to the barrelful of misconduct in Queens that a group of law professors recently brought to light. As The Times reported last month, the professors filed grievances against 21 prosecutors in the borough — for everything from lying in open court to withholding key evidence from the defense — and then posted those grievances to a public website.

Weather Update – December 6, 2021

A mild, but rainy and blustery day today. 🌧

I guess that’s kind of the norm when you have a 50 degree day in December. They seem to happen more times lately then in the past, but at least it’s not snow and it will save on the heating bills. Next weekend looks to be rainy, but mild too. Tuesday and Thursday should have some sun, and not too cold. Come Friday, we start to add some more daylight in the evening, though not much, but it will accelerate.

Good Morning – December 6, 2021

Good morning! It’s a Rainy Monday. 🌧

Going to be a warm day, already is. Maybe the fifties later, although by mid-week we might get some snow, though not too much. But usually when we have days in December in fifties, it is rain.

Rain showers and 44 degrees in Delmar, NY. β˜” There is a south breeze at 9 mph. πŸƒ. Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 2 am. β˜ƒοΈ Snow showers maybe mid-day Wednesday, but it looks like I will dodge the bullet on the day Big Red is getting his new tires.

Right now it’s not pouring out, πŸŒ‚ but I am certainly planning on bringing my umbrella to work today, as it might be wet by later. It’s a dress up day for work, as clients are in town, but I am hoping it’s not so wet I can’t just wear my regular dress shoes and skip the boots heading into the office today. Winter is coming and there will be plenty of time to wear the boots. πŸ‘¨β€πŸ’Ό

I have a bit of an upset stomach today, 😣 but that is normal for me on a Monday. There is so no such thing as feeling cheery before a 5 day work week, although maybe I’ll decide to take off a day some point in the week, but nothing is set in stone yet.

Today I am going to once again reschedule Big Red’s inspection, πŸ” this time for Friday, in hope of getting Red back on the road for the weekend. That said, it’s going to rain this weekend, so I’m not hopeful about getting out of town this weekend, but it far enough off, things could change. 🚘 Remember for a while, they were talking about a big snow storm the day Red was getting his tires put on.

Yesterday, I installed the Waffle R package on my computer, 🍱 so I will probably post some pretty waffle graphs on my blog. It seems like Waffle charts are very popular these days, probably for good reason.

I am thinking about walking down to CVS and getting my COVID-19 booster tonight. πŸ’‰ That way I can do my evening walk and get the protection of the booster before they run out of supply. I was told that I don’t need to bring anything, at CVS they have my health insurance card on file. I should look back at my blog and see when I got my first shot in case they ask. Of course if it’s raining maybe tomorrow. That said, it would be a whole lot easier if I could get it at the Empire State Plaza Concourse.

Boreas River

The Boreas River along the Hewitt Eddy trail is wide and relatively shallow, as it winds away from NY 28N, near Vanderwhacker Road aka Moose Club Way.
