Weather Update – September 25, 2021

Should be an absolutely beautiful early fall day once the fog burns off. 🌞

Definitely autumn like, πŸ‚ the hot weather of summer has come and gone. It would have been nice to go to the Adirondacks but I can’t afford to go out of town every week, and it’s good to spend some time home, do some cleaning and hopefully painting of the truck tomorrow. πŸ‘©‍🎨 I saw Mavis Tire is open on Sunday, so I might stop by and confirm they can order the tires for my truck and get an idea of how long it would be before they can install the tires. After a lot of hemming and hawing, I am going to stick with the 35s, lay down the $1,500 for the tires, and keep the same Nitto Terra Grapplers, and just hope I can get a few more years out of the truck. ⚫ Beats paying another $40k or $50k for a new truck. πŸ›» But it’s more fun to drag my feet, but I still would like to take a week of vacation somewhere far from Albany in October or November.

Probably check out the Five Rivers Autumn Festival, 🍁 which I am sure will be mobbed by little children, πŸ‘¨‍πŸ‘©‍πŸ‘§‍πŸ‘¦ but might still have some interesting exhibits. Then hike at Thacher Park along escarpment and maybe the OSI parcel. Then catch the 4:40 PM bus back to Five Rivers, and do a bit more hiking before heading home, remembering the much earlier sunset now. πŸŒ†

Good Morning – September 25, 2021

Good morning! Happy Saturday. Kind of a foggy start to our weekend. 🌫

It’s going to be a pretty nice day out, so I’m planning in a bit to go out to Five Rivers, check out the Nature Festival they are having, then catch the final bus to Thacher Park and hike around there for the day.

Foggy and 53 degrees in Delmar, NY. 🌫 Calm wind. The dew point is 50 degrees.

I was very happy to discover they have brought back the express bus service 🚌 back to downtown, which will make commutes nicer. It was very quietly launched, with a new number as the service doesn’t go to Voorheesville anymore, although so far they haven’t taken down the old signs, so maybe the change isn’t permanent. I don’t know, except for the earlier routes, the Voorheesville route isn’t super popular, and it seems like at this point many of the commuters have found alternative routes or in some cases retired. The world has kind of changed.

While the bus won’t drop me off at my apartment in either the morning or the evening now with the service ending at the Park and Ride, it’s a nice mile walk 🚢‍♀️ and it should make up for the fact mornings are increasingly dark which soon — at least until the time change — mean that I would be starting my morning walk in the darkness. Although, that might be pretty, but it’s also good to get into the office earlier. Sometimes when I take the local, if I miss the earlier local, I end up doing the walk of shame at 9:35 or 9:45 AM into the office, and there is always that awkward look on the elevator when another director gets on the elevator the same time as you do. πŸšͺ

I also had my hotspot service restored for free, so I can get on the internet for a quick email or other activities from my laptop at home. πŸ€– I still refuse to get home internet, but it sure is nice to occasionally be able to connect my laptop to the internet while I’m at home without going to the library. With remote work being done, it’s far less important, as I’m either in office or out in the woods, and the smartphone can do 95% of what my laptop can do, but somethings are just better done on the laptop.

It should be a beautiful day up at Thacher Park 🐸 and Five Rivers 🐦 and allow me to get my steps on in. Plan to bring the hammock and a book to read, and spend the balance of the day today. Tomorrow I am going to wash my truck, then get sand paper and primer, and patch up the rust on the door and one wheel well. Before the salt gets on the roads. Then after that, I will probably put on a match coat, if I can find some red paint close to normal color for red, but at least I’d like to arrest the rust.
