January 9, 2021 Morning

Good morning! Happy Static Electric Shock Day 🧼 ! Cold and dry enough today, that it’s good for a good shock. Two weeks to National Cheese Lovers Day πŸ§€ .Β Partly sunny and 20 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a north-northwest breeze at 8 mph. πŸƒ. There are 2 inches of snow on the ground. β˜ƒ ️All weekend is going to be relatively cold — things won’t start to thaw out until Monday around 11 am. 🌑️

I should get off my ass and get outside, 🚢but I don’t know, the weather didn’t turn out quite as nice as expected for today. β›… I still think I’ll go out to Five Rivers although I’m leaning against walking out to Van Dyke Preserve first, as that will add a lot more miles of walking, and it looks like it might be very cold walking along Meads Road with the breeze. I just wish there was more sun. ☁

Added a bunch of new WMS and tile servers to the blog mapper, so I am looking forward to posting a bunch of a very neat maps in the coming weeks. πŸ—Ί Also did some more West Virginia maps and other inter actives I’ll be posting in the coming weeks. I have to say there are so many cool WMS services out there, and when you join them together with Leaflet there are many neat maps one can make with only a single line of code.

I don’t know about you, but I’m just glad the week is over. βœ… On so many levels, this first week of January was just absolutely awful in all ways but the markets. Those paper gains sure looked nice, but they are all imaginary and are nothing but a number.

Today will be partly sunny 🌞, with a high of 31 degrees at 2pm. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical day around January 23rd. Northwest wind 8 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 30 degrees. The record high of 62 was set in 2008. 9.9 inches of snow fell back in 1953.❄

I will believe it when I see the sun, πŸŒ₯ because there are a lot more clouds then sun this morning. Maybe it will change. Just gotta give it time I guess. This week has been pretty miserable with all of the clouds, although Thursday was pretty nice. Or maybe it’s jut all the whining on news media and interwebs that have put us all in a bad mood. 😑 I think the best thing to do is tune it out. But that can be hard to do.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:03 pm with sun having an altitude of 25.3Β° from the due south horizon (-45.5Β° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 12.7 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour πŸ… starts at 3:56 pm with the sun in the southwest (233Β°). πŸ“Έ The sunset is in the west-southwest (240Β°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:41 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 21 seconds with dusk around 5:12 pm, which is one minute and 4 seconds later than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:48 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies πŸŒƒ and temperatures around 31 degrees. There will be a north-northwest breeze at 10 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 16 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 18 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be partly cloudy 🌀, with a low of 21 degrees at 5am. Seven degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 1st. Maximum wind chill around 14 at 5am; Northwest wind 8 to 10 mph. In 2020, we had cloudy skies. It got down to 30 degrees. The record low of -13 occurred back in 1968.

🌹🌻🌼Only 10 weeks remain until the first day of calendar spring!🌹🌻🌼 When there is no hope, there is spring. And cheese. We like that. I mean who can be opposed to fatty-bonds of secretion of mammary gland exposed mold? πŸ§€ I know, vegetarians, but they’re not really human. I mean if people didn’t eat food, there would be a lot less cows.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until National Cheese Lovers Day πŸ§€ when the sun will be setting at 4:57 pm with dusk at 5:27 pm. On that day in 2020, we had mostly cloudy and temperatures between 37 and 11 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 31 degrees. We hit a record high of 64 back in 1906.

Ten weeks until spring! 🌷🌺

Ten weeks until spring! 🌷🌺

The season of mud, manure and black flies can’t be that far away. Just make it through a week and do it ten more times, and then we can at least look at the calendar and pretend that spring is upon us while looking jealously at the folks down south with all their green grass.

Wi-Fi’s biggest upgrade in decades is starting to arrive – The Verge

Wi-Fi’s biggest upgrade in decades is starting to arrive – The Verge

Wi-i is about to get a lot better. Many of this year’s new phones, laptops, TVs, routers, and more will come with support for Wi-i 6E, a new upgrade to Wi-i that’s essentially like expanding your wireless connection from a two-lane road to an eight-lane highway. It’s the biggest upgrade to Wi-i in 20 years, and connections should be faster and a lot more reliable because of it.

I am sure eventually when I get a new laptop in a few years and I'm working down at the library when they upgrade there equipment that will be nice, although I still struggle with the buggy kernel driver for my laptop which sometimes really slows things down.
