October 22, 2020 Night

Good evening! Partly cloudy and 60 degrees in Delmar, NY. 🌃 Calm wind. The dew point is 54 degrees.

It’s a nice evening 🌃 with the half 🌗 moon setting in the west. It almost feels like a summer night out back with the crickets 🦗 singing 🎶 and I’m listening to the final presidential debate. 🎤 🧓 Honestly not much of substance in the debate not that it matters much to me as I’ve already voted. 🗳

I went for my evening walk 🚶🏻 after a busy day working at the library. 📚 I’m still working on getting my GIS database to work on the new version of Ubuntu I upgraded my laptop to. That said I now have the latest version of Open Street Map 🗺 for making future maps.

I put away my camping gear ⛺ so no camping this weekend because Saturday looks rainy and I’m kind of busy with work. I did however get the extra mantles 🏮 for the lantern so I can do another real good cleaning of the lantern before the next time I go camping. I am thinking a Halloween 🦇 weekend trip 🎃 would be fun if the weather cooperates. Full 🌕 moon then.

Tonight will have patchy fog after midnight. Otherwise, mostly cloudy 🌥, with a low of 56 degrees at 12am. 19 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 5th. The record low of 20 occurred back in 1969.

Tonight will have a First Quarter 🌓 Moon with 43% illuminated. At 9 PM, the moon was in the southwest (216°) at an altitude of 15° from the horizon, some 236,134 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. 🚀 At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by April 19th. Buckle up for safety! 💺 The moon will set in the west-southwest (237°) at 10:55 pm. The Blue 🌝 Moon is on Saturday, October 31. The darkest hour is at 12:40 am, followed by dawn at 6:49 am, and sun starting to rise at 7:18 am in the east-southeast (105°) and last for 3 minutes Sunrise is one minute and 13 seconds later than yesterday. 🌄 The golden hour ends at 7:57 am with sun in the east-southeast (111°). Tonight will have 13 hours and 17 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 44 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be partly sunny 🌞, with a high of 69 degrees at 3pm. 12 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 24th. Maximum dew point of 59 at 10am. South wind 6 to 13 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 64 degrees. The record high of 81 was set in 1947. 0.5 inches of snow fell back in 2002.❄

Another really nice day tomorrow, 👍🏻 which is good because winter will be here before you know it. But I figure enjoy it while I still can.

In four weeks on November 19 the sun will be setting in the west-southwest (244°) at 4:29 pm (Standard Time),🌄 which is one hour, 32 minutes and 32 seconds earlier then tonight. Fauci: Masks, Social Distancing Likely Until 2022

Lung Disease & Respiratory Health Coronavirus News WEBMD HEALTH NEWS Fauci: Masks, Social Distancing Likely Until 2022 By Carolyn Crist

Oct. 22, 2020 -- With cases continuing to rise in many states and a vaccine yet to come, Americans should prepare to wear masks and social distance for quite a while.

People will likely need to wear masks and follow social distancing guidelines through the end of 2021 and into 2022, one of the nation’s top infectious disease experts said during a recent meeting, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Anthony Fauci, MD, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, spoke about the future of COVID-19 during a virtual meeting with doctors and students at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia last week.

“I feel very strongly that we’re going to need to have some degree of public health measures to continue,” he said.

“It’s not going to be the way it was with polio and measles, where you get a vaccine, case closed, it’s done,” Fauci said. “It’s going to be public health measures that linger for months and months.”

NYC Rapid Transit’s 45-Ton Rotary Convertor

A rotary converter is a type of electrical machine which acts as a mechanical rectifier, inverter or frequency converter. “Rotary converters were used to convert alternating current (AC) to direct current (DC), or DC to AC power, before the advent of chemical or solid state power rectification and inverting. They were commonly used to provide DC power for commercial, industrial and railway electrification from an AC power source.”

I think it's fair to call this device old sparky.

Militia Leader Known As ‘Bundy Ranch Sniper’ Is On The Ballot In Idaho : NPR

The moderator was polite enough not to make it Question 1. But, oh, it was coming.

This face-off in Hailey, Idaho, wasn't a typical debate night. Beforehand, incumbent state Sen. Michelle Stennett, a Democrat, had sought assurances for her safety, fearing riled-up supporters of her Republican opponent, Eric Parker. He, in turn, posted guards outside to avoid a ruckus like the one at a recent GOP picnic. That time, a heckler interrupted Parker's speech to call him a domestic terrorist.

The precautions all go back to what Parker calls "the elephant in the room" in his bid for state office, namely that federal authorities consider him an anti-government extremist who belongs in prison. Instead, Parker beat felony charges twice, now leads one of the best-known militia groups in the mountain region, and is currently on the ballot in a rare purple district in bright-red Idaho.
