College Recruiting Still Lags At Rural Schools

"The sunrise in rural central Michigan reveals a landscape of neatly divided cornfields crossed by ditches and wooded creeks. But few of the sleepy teenagers on the school bus from Maple Valley Junior-Senior High School likely noticed this scene on their hour drive to Grand Rapids. They set out from their tiny school district of about 1,000 students, heading to the closest big city for a college recruiting fair. About 151 colleges and universities were waiting. The students, from Nashville and Vermontville, Mich., were going to the recruiters because few recruiters come to see them."

March 6, 2019 Morning

Good morning! What day is it? Last Wednesday when the sun will set before 7 pm until mid September. πŸŒ†. Partly sunny and 13 degrees in Delmar. There is a west-northwest breeze at 8 mph. πŸƒ. The current wind chill is 2. There are 2 inches of snow on the ground but many patches are bare. β˜ƒ ️Things will start to thaw out at Friday around 2 pm. 🌑️ I expect after Sundays rain β˜” a lot of the snow will be gone. Hopefully it won’t be replaced by ice which has been much too common these days.

Easy waking up again this morning as sun was bright πŸŒ… and rose quite early. I know next week with flip the clock πŸ•’ ahead an hour it will make getting up more difficult although I’m hoping the fact that I’ve been getting to bed early over the past month πŸ’€ will help. Honestly I haven’t set my alarm ⏰ all week long but I’ve been up at seven each day. I doubt that will be possible next week with the time change.

This morning I tightened up the button on the correct pair of pants πŸ‘– that I was afraid to have pop off, cooked waffles with peaches and ironed my clothes for work. I was doing okay πŸ‘Œ for time until I wasn’t but I ended up making the bus 🚍 in time ⌚ with a minute or so to spare.

Today will have a chance of snow showers, mainly after 2pm. Partly sunny 🌞, with a high of 21 degrees at 1pm. 19 degrees below normal. Maximum wind chill around 4 at 10am; Northwest wind 8 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than one inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny. The high last year was 45 degrees. The record high of 63 was set in 1974. 10.5 inches of snow fell back in 1887.❄

The sun will set at 5:51 pm with dusk around 6:19 pm, which is one minute and 12 seconds later than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for snow showers, clouds ☁ 🌨 and temperatures around 19 degrees. The wind chill around sunset will be 7. β˜ƒοΈ There will be a west-northwest breeze at 10 mph. Today will have 11 hours and 30 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 53 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a chance of snow showers, mainly before 10pm. Mostly cloudy 🌧, with a low of 8 degrees at 4am. 14 degrees below normal. Maximum wind chill around -1 at 4am; West wind 5 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. Going to be a cold night πŸŒƒ for March. In 2018, we had cloudy in the evening, which became light snow by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 31 degrees. The record low of -6 occurred back in 1950.

Tomorrow will have a slight chance of snow showers after 8am. Partly sunny 🌦, with a high of 26 degrees at 3pm. 15 degrees below normal. West wind 5 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had mostly sunny. The high last year was 36 degrees. The record high of 62 was set in 1974. 10.3 inches of snow fell back in 1967.❄

Today in 1857, Supreme Court of the United States rules in the Dred Scott v. SI have a lot of food, I really should avoid shopping next week not only to save money but also to clean out some of the uneaten fooandford case. πŸ‘³ Conservatives still cite the case to this day, as relates to abortion but I’m not fully understanding of its ramifications. πŸ‘ΆI probably should read πŸ“– up about it.

Yesterday wasn’t a half bad day, I was able to get the 5:55 pm home 🏑🚍by six thirty. I got home, cooked up fish 🐠 and brussel sprouts and rode the excerise bike 🚲 until around eight. Worked on some code for a bit then went out for my evening walk. 🚢A bit of a chilly evening for sure.

I keep trying to do more excerise each day because I want to be in better shape come spring. 🌷 I’m not planning to do a lot of mountain hiking πŸ—» this year but I do want to do more day hikes back to various fishing 🎣 holes and maybe even some more backcountry camping β›Ί with the hammock. I’ve though πŸ’ about getting one of those battery πŸ”‹ backup packs that I could use for powering my phone for music 🎢 and podcasts on extended trips in the wilderness. πŸ“±

I programmed in a bunch more messages and improvements to the VMS display I have in my apartment. β™’ Some are pretty funny, a few are vulgar but who cares only I see them. I also uploaded a bunch more bug fixes that fix little problems with the code. It’s kind of a silly πŸ˜‹ little thing but I like being wished a good morning, little messages and almanac data.

I checked my pantry and I think I can get away without shopping next week except for a perishables 🍱 in other words things like cheese and ketchup that get used up but are essential for good meals. 🍴 I have a lot of food, I really should avoid shopping next week not only to save money but also to eat up some of the uneaten food. 🍲 I have close to a full tank of gas so I won’t need to buy gas for a few weeks especially if I don’t head out of town or drive anywhere except out to the folks house on Sunday.

I also discovered another shirt πŸ‘š in the closet so I can put off buying another shirt for now. Next time I’m out near the Pine Bush 🌲I’ll have to run to the maul and see if they have something that works for me. I really think the quality of the Sears dress shirts declined before they closed. I really liked the comfort of the shirts, they fit me well but they keep wearing out in the elbows and cuffs prematurely in my book. πŸ“™

I am still thinking πŸ’ my first big trip of the year will be the days leading up to Easter Weekend which is like five weeks away now. β›Ί I don’t think it will be super expensive, I don’t need to buy that much food 🍲 and the only other cost maybe is firewood for the first night, gasoline β›½and maybe a thirty rack of cheap beer.🍻. Oh and I guess some bait for fishing.🎣

I kind of like the idea πŸ’‘ of a North Country trip but I might not go that far as there are many good trout streams locally. I do want to get away but I don’t want to spend all the time motoring. I’d rather be able to set up campβ›Ί and stay in one spot multiple nights relying on the sun β˜€ for solar power.

Paying all those taxes sucks on April 15th 🏬but I realize it’s kind of good because it means I made dividends and interest last year that were reinvested towards tomorrow. Short term pain now for a better tomorrow. It might take a few decades commitment but I’m looking forward to a better tomorrow. 😊

I got a bunch of relays in, which was the final component I needed for building the smart relay for my truck 🚚.I really got to get testing and building things soon πŸ”œ as spring and camping β›Ί season really isn’t that far away.

As previously noted, next Wednesday is 7 PM Sunset πŸŒ† with dusk at 7:29 pm (Daylight Savings Time). On that day in 2018, we had snow and temperatures between 34 and 30 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 43 degrees. We hit a record high of 70 back in 2012.

Right now, a split verdict on the weekend. πŸ˜• Saturday, sunny, with a high near 39. Sunday, snow likely before 10am, then rain and snow likely between 10am and 1pm, then rain likely after 1pm. Cloudy, with a high near 40. Chance of precipitation is 70%. Typical average high for the weekend is 41 degrees.

In four weeks on April 3 the sun will be setting at 7:23 pm (Daylight Savings Time),πŸŒ„ which is one hour, 32 minutes and 30 seconds later then today. In 2018 on that day, we had rain showers, partly cloudy and temperatures between 44 and 33 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 53 and 33 degrees. The record high of 79 degrees was set back in 1981.

Looking ahead, 7 PM Sunset πŸŒ† is in 1 weeks, May πŸ•Š is in 8 weeks, 8:30 PM Sunset ️⛱️ is in 13 weeks and Inauguration Day 2021 πŸ‘΄πŸ» is in 98 weeks.
