August 16, 2018 Morning

Good morning! Happy Thursday. Four weeks to State Primary Day 🗳️. Already ordered my absentee ballot so I can register my (protest) vote. Hah. Partly sunny and 72 degrees in Delmar. Calm wind. While the clouds are somewhat keeping it cooler, the muggy weather is here for a while to stay. The dew point is 69 degrees. The muggy weather ends Monday around noontime. 😓

It’s already the second half of the month, with daylight plunging quickly as we head towards autumn. 🍂 Kind of need to go down to the DEC one of these days to get my hunting and trapping license although I may skip getting a turkey tag this year because I will be busy with work this autumn.

While it’s quite humid, it was a pleasant walk to the express bus 🚏although traffic is heavy going into the city but I’m not driving. I’m hoping today won’t be too busy at work.

Today will be a pretty hot one that once the clouds pass will be mostly sunny 🌞 , with a high of 88 degrees at 3pm. Seven degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 70 at 9am. Light west wind becoming northwest 5 to 9 mph in the morning. A year ago, we had mostly cloudy skies with some clearing in the afternoon. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 83 degrees. The record high of 97 was set in 1936.

This afternoon I have to leave work early to pick up my contacts and eye glasses. 👓 Fortunately I can use sick/health-care time from my job because I’m starting to run a bit low on personal time. I’m just going to take the bus there as it’s easier than driving and should be home near the regular time. 🚌

The sun will set at 7:54 pm with dusk around 8:25 pm, which is one minute and 30 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌇 At sunset, look for mostly clear skies and 84 degrees. The dew point will be 68 degrees. There will be a west breeze at 5 mph. Another nice evening but muggy. Today will have 13 hours and 50 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 35 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 3am. Partly cloudy ☁, with a low of 69 degrees at 5am. Nine degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 68 at 6pm. Light and variable wind. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2017, we had mostly cloudy skies with some clearing in the early hours of the next day. It got down to 52 degrees. The record low of 40 occurred back in 1979.

Today in 1916, the Migratory Bird Treaty between Canada and the United States signed.🐦 It was designed to save Migratory Birds by giving them international protection for the first time by placing limits on hunting and other means of taking.

In 1989, a solar flare from the Sun creates a geomagnetic storm that affects micro chips💻, leading to a halt of all trading on Toronto’s stock market. 📉

Also, in 1993, Debian Linux is announced, 🐥it would become the basis of many forms of Linux like Ubuntu Linux, which is currently what I run on my home computer.

And in 1966, the House Un-American Activities Committee begins investigations of Americans who have aided the Viet Cong. 🙀The committee intends to introduce legislation making these activities illegal. Anti-war demonstrators disrupt the meeting and 50 people are arrested.

Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until State Primary Day 🗳️ when the sun will be setting at 7:08 pm with dusk at 7:36 pm. On that day in 2017, we had rain, fog, shallow fog, patches of fog, mist, mostly cloudy skies and temperatures between 79 and 50 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 73 degrees. We hit a record high of 92 back in 1948.
