Solar is up and producing power on my truck cap
This mess is the brains of the operation

Solar power is up and running on my truck’s camper shell. Accessory battery is charging at 14.5 volts all while the engine is shut off. Probably the battery will be fully charged soon and the solar controller will just be floating the charge. Everything is nice and tight, no rattles while driving, looks fairly neat. I think I did a nice job. Me happy.
Someone, somewhere, is making a banned chemical that destroys the ozone layer, scientists suspect – The Washington Post
"It's an ozone mystery, as well as a threat to one of the planet's great environmental success stories."

May 20, 2018 Morning
Good afternoon! Happy Sunday. Four weeks to Fathers Day 👨. That will be the final week of the Gas Up. Yummy ice cream that tastes a bit like petroleum and partially burnt hydrocarbons. You can quote me on that. Put, put, bang! Sun is peaking out of the clouds and 66 and 4/17 degrees in Delmar, NY. β There is a south breeze at 11 mph. 🍃. The dew point is 60 degrees. Haven’t seen dew points in sixties for a while. The skies will clear around 2 pm.
The primary goal of today is to get the solar controller wired and the panel properly grounded so it can start producing power. I could do this at home but I need a drill to cut another hole through the plastic grommet to run the wires into the cab. I have all the parts I need except for a fuse which I plan to get at Autozone this morning. I also need to pick up some eggs and a few other supplies that I forgot when I went to Wally World yesterday.
Today will have some scattered showers, mainly before 2pm. Cloudy, β then gradually becoming mostly sunny 🌞, with a high of 73 degrees at 2pm. Better get nice so I can test out my solar panel. Three degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 62 at 10am. South wind 9 to 14 mph becoming northwest in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies with more clouds in the afternoon. Kind of the reverse of today. The high last year was 68 degrees. The record high of 91 was set in 1962.
The sun will set at 8:16 pm with dusk around 8:49 pm, which is 59 seconds later than yesterday. 🌇 At sunset, look for mostly clear skies and 68 degrees. The dew point will be 53 degrees. Going to be a pleasant evening. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 11 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 48 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 50 seconds over yesterday.
Tonight will be mostly clear 🌌 , with a low of 53 degrees at 4am. Two degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 55 at 6pm. Northwest wind 6 to 11 mph becoming light after midnight. In 2017, we had mostly cloudy skies. It got down to 42 degrees. The record low of 32 occurred back in 1949. Doesn’t often get that cold now that we are in the second half of May.
After adding some extra wires to feed in additional power to the left side of my big VMS display its working perfectly. I was having problems with display glitches on the left side of the display, especially modules 20 through 24 due to a voltage drop internally leading to logic errors. Now it’s working perfectly so I always have the time, temperature and countdowns – and it can easily be read from across the room and uses less power than even a typical alarm clock.💻 I want to add some more animations but I do have to figure out how to access the underlying library without interfering with the various text functions. Sometimes it takes time to perfect electronics projects.
Still chewing over next weekend’s forecast. Memorial Day Weekend! Already.😎 Saturday looks quite nice but then it goes to all shit come Sunday into Monday. But who knows, still a long ways away.💩 Maybe the front will slow and the rain won’t come until late Memorial Day. God only knows. If Memorial Day Weekend is crappy, I’m blaming Trump and I will remember come November. Or maybe not. I think my VMS sign on my bedroom says it something like 158 days to election day. That’s a long time to forget about the weather on Memorial Day Weekend assuming the rest of summer is nice in Trump’s America. Maybe he’ll send the government employees giving us cold and rainy forecasts to the Turkey Farm.
Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until Fathers Day 👨 when the sun will be setting at 8:35 pm with dusk at 9:10 pm. On that day in 2017, we had mostly cloudy skies and temperatures between 81 and 64 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 79 degrees. We hit a record high of 94 back in 1994.
