April 8, 2018 Night

Good evening! Partly clear and 30 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a west-northwest breeze at 13 mph. 🍃. Things will start to thaw out at tomorrow around 10 am. 🌡️ Another cold night on tap. I tell you that weekend went by much too fast.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ☁, with a low of 24 degrees at 4am. 15 degrees below normal. Cool enough that I decided to set the thermostat to 50 tonight 💨so it’s not too cold when I awake. I tend to only sleep in my boxers and a tiny shirt and waking up to 40 odd degrees is cold even by my standards. 👕Maximum wind chill around 19 at 3am; Northwest wind 5 to 13 mph. In 12017, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 27 degrees. The record low of 16 occurred back in 1977.

Tonight will have a Waning Crescent Moon 🌘 with 42% illuminated. The moon will rise at 3:08 am. The New Moon is on Saturday night with partly cloudy skies. The Pink Moon 🌝 is on Saturday, April 28th. The sun will rise at 6:24 am with the first light at 5:55 am, which is one minute and 41 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌄 Tonight will have 10 hours and 52 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 49 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny 🌞 , with a high of 45 degrees at 4pm. 10 degrees below normal. Northwest wind around 7 mph. A year ago, we had cloudy skies with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 70 degrees. The record high of 77 was set in 1991. 13.3 inches of snow fell back in 2000.❄

Went out to the folks house for Sunday dinner, a bit earlier than usual but I also wanted to get home before dark. 💤I’m increasingly worried once again about my ability to drive after dark plus I wanted to get home early so I could go for my evening walk 😺 and then come home and make my bedroom smell like flux as I replaced another broken Micro USB connector and started building another little desk lamp out of those warm white leds. I’ve come to the conclusion that my homemade devices may not look beautiful but they are functioning well enough and I’m learning and getting better at building stuff.🔦 Life is always less perfect than what you see on the internet.

Walking on Saturday with the Albany County Young Democrats for Adian O’Connor was a lot of fun. I don’t know how many houses we really hit with folks home 🏡but it was a nice neighborhood to walk in. He seems like a nice guy, too bad I will be stuck at work the next few weekends but maybe I’ll get a chance to volunteer again or maybe do something like Friend to Friend cards. Who knows.

I have the new version of QGIS up and running on my laptop perfectly now, it’s wonderful software. Been working on creating a new plug in to export stylized KML for it based on the mmqgis plug in but simpler and exporting the data in a format more useful for me. 💻It’s a bit of a project that may take some time to complete.

Right now, a split verdict on next weekend. πŸ˜• Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 60. Sunday, a chance of showers. Cloudy, with a high near 55. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Closer to normal for that time of year. Typical average high for the weekend is 58 degrees.

In four weeks on May 6 the sun will be setting at 8:01 pm,🌄 which is 31 minutes and 42 seconds later then tonight. In 2017 on that day, we had rain, drizzle, patches of fog, mist, mostly cloudy skies and temperatures between 70 and 50 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 67 and 44 degrees. The record high of 89 degrees was set back in 1930.

How the 1970s Shaped President Donald Trump’s Views – The Atlantic

"For President Trump, it’s all about the 1970s. That bleak decade saw the nation turn against most of the institutions that had been central since World War II. The quagmire in Vietnam and the Watergate scandal that forced Richard Nixon’s resignation turned many Americans, on the left and the right, against the federal government. The post-Nixonian presidency came to be viewed as an office whose holders should not be trusted. When President Gerald Ford pardoned Nixon in September 1974 for any crimes that he might have committed, all hope of healing the nation went right out the window. Jimmy Carter’s campaign in 1976 revolved around the basic promise that voters could trust him. Though Congress looked good at the height of the Watergate investigation in 1973, polls showed public confidence in the legislative branch falling thereafter. The number of Americans who trusted the federal government to do the right thing most of the time declined from almost 80 percent in 1964 to 25 percent when Reagan took office in 1981."

Last night I ported over my scripts and plug-ins🔌 over to QGIS 3.0. Had some issues figuring out how to implement a few functions using the the new API but with some experimentation and creativity I got them working.🐞 Most of the improvements to the api make a lot of sense and are actually simpler than before.

I am working on a bunch of new maps for the blog. I plan to post many new and improved maps now that I have the latest version of QGIS installed, 🌐 so I can take advantage of the software’s latest advantages.

Today I will probably go out hiking, after doing some grocery shopping. 🍒 Kind of cold and sunny for fishing🎣, and I think my license is expired or soon to expire. I’ll have to get an updated one this week. I’ll do some cleaning to do around my apartment.
