March 14, 2018 Morning

Good morning! What day is it? A rather cold and gray Hump Day, of course. Two weeks to Average High is 50 🦆. Based on the weather we’ve had lately, you wouldn’t know that. Tomorrow is the holiday celebrated by the friendly strangers in Black Sedans, Ides of March. Overcast and 33 1/3 degrees in Delmar, NY. Albany got a lot of snow last night but only a dusting in Delmar. ☁ There is a west breeze at 11 mph. 🍃.

Today will have a chance of snow showers. Cloudy β˜β„ , with a high of 36 degrees at 3pm. Seven degrees below normal. West wind 11 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than one inch possible. A year ago, we had heavy snow and freezing fog. The high last year was 26 degrees. The record high of 75 was set in 1946. 17 inches of snow fell back in 2017.❄ I think that was the first snow day ever where I work, at least as long back as I’ve been there. Younger generation in charge, not such sticklers for working in blizzards like back in the day. That or climate change.

The sun will set at 7:01 pm with dusk around 7:29 pm, which is one minute and 11 seconds later than yesterday. 🌇 At sunset, look for cloudy skies ☁ and 34 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 14 mph. Tomorrow will have 11 hours and 56 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 54 seconds over today.

Tonight will have a chance of snow showers, mainly before 5am. Cloudy β˜β„ , with a low of 29 degrees at 6am. Three degrees above normal. West wind 14 to 16 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. In 2017, we had light snow in the evening, remaining overcast into the early morning. It got down to 14 degrees. The record low of 1 occurred back in 1993. We gotten to the point of the year where record breaking cold is now above zero. That’s good for people like me who always have a tight budget and rely unfortunately on natural gas and electricity to keep the temperature inside above 50 so the pipes don’t freeze.

Today in 1900, the Gold Standard Act is ratified, placing United States currency on the gold standard.💰 This would start to unwind during the great depression and be fully ended by 1973 💹under the growth and inflation of that era.

Last night I went down to the library for a while. Not a half bad evening but after I got home I didn’t feel like continuing to solder🔬 up the wires for the GPS logger🌐 I’m building for my truck. Its not a rush plus I don’t like soldering when I’m tired. I want to have it working and fully installed in my truck before camping season gets underway.

That snowstorm yesterday was unusual.❄ On the unpaved surfaces it really piled up and for my evening commute it covered the roads and made them slick. But for most of the day it was too warm to stick to the asphalt and we never got any real accumulation in the land of the Delmartian. But it’s like Albany got a lot of snow at the same time. β›„

I am still toying with the idea of spending Saturday night doing some snow camping in the wilderness,β›„ probably at a state forest not too far from home.β›Ί Lots of sun but also lots of snow but where I’m thinking of going there is a plowed out spot for parking. I do need to replace🌄 the broken lantern globe though. I don’t know, I might instead prefer a day ski trip and just wait for the snow to melt away. Not going to be that much longer now, especially with the average high climbing to the upper 40s, assuming cold that’s gripping the region breaks.

After I replaced the power supply I managed to burn up and reprogramming the remote codes, my LED fixtures continues to work well with soothing red light each night and blue light each morning. Still working on getting the timing right for the motion sensor, that part of the code is still buggy. I just got a new one study it and play with it more. Embedded programming is often more difficult to debug then regular computer programming that is easier to swat bugs in because it’s easier to run parts of it and change it without reflashing the chip. 💻💾

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Average High is 50 🦆 when the sun will be setting at 7:17 pm with dusk at 7:45 pm. On that day in 2017, we had rain, drizzle, mist, cloudy skies and temperatures between 51 and 38 degrees. We hit a record high of 85 back in 1945. With the cold and snow of recent you’d be hard to believe it could warm up so quickly once the end of March rolls around.
