February 28, 2016 Afternoon
Good afternoon! Happy Sunday. Currently 46 degrees and partly with a 14 mph south wind, with gusts up to 21 mph. The wind chill value is currently 40. Not a half bad day for watching the Adirondack Motorclub Ice Race in Wells on Lake Algonquin.
Today will be mostly sunny, with a high near 46. South wind around 8 mph. Tonight the sun will set at 5:42 pm with darkness around 6:11 pm, which is 1 minutes and 16 seconds later than yesterday. Today will have 11 hours and 10 minutes of daylight, an increase of 2 minutes and 55 seconds over yesterday.
Tonight will have a chance of showers, mainly after 1am. Partly cloudy, with a low around 37. South wind around 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.
There are 3 months, 13 days until Flag Day when the sun will be setting at 8:36 pm (Daylight Savings Time).
Last night I spent up a few miles south of the Fox Lair campsite at the campsite I like off of NY 8 that is a little less windy and with less road noise than Fox Lair and a good hill to use as a back stop for shooting. Spent a good amount of ammo this morning but it’s been a while since I’ve done a lot of shooting. The 22 doesn’t hurt but the 20 gauge does if you shoot it enough. I know, I’m a girl.
Has a nice campfire last night and I actually ran an electric extension cord back to the campsite and had my flag lit. I also made up several lumieres using white paper bags and candles. They were pretty and created some pretty back light.
Watching the Adirondack Motorclub Ice Race is pretty neat, watching the cars spin out. One car got stuck, there was a yellow flag and several cars almost crashed.
I also hiked back to Griffin Falls this morning. It’s been warm enough that they weren’t real frozen but still had a lot of water going over them.
It wasn’t my original plan, but I decided I didn’t feel like hiking Spruce Mountain as I didn’t sleep real well and felt a bit sore as I repeatly slipped and fell on the icy ground at the campsite. I also want to get home at a reasonable hour.
