Update on the Obesity Epidemic – Science-Based Medicine

The obesity epidemic continues relentlessly across the globe, despite the increasing attention being paid to it. The latest CDC statistics (as of 2016) show that 39.6% of adult Americans are obese, with every state having a rate >20%. This is an increase from 2011 – 34.9%. In fact, the trend has accelerated. The same is true world-wide. As of 2016 there were 650 million obese adults worldwide. This is no longer a problem of just industrialized nations, and obesity can occur alongside malnutrition. The figures have tripled since 1975.

US judge: Terror watchlist violates constitutional rights

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) — The government's watchlist of more than 1 million people identified as "known or suspected terrorists" violates the constitutional rights of those placed on it, a federal judge ruled Wednesday.

The ruling from U.S. District Judge Anthony Trenga grants summary judgment to nearly two dozen Muslim U.S. citizens who had challenged the watchlist with the help of a Muslim civil-rights group, the Council on American-Islamic Relations.

Sounds an awful lot like Red Flag laws.

Warren County makes deal to open fire tower trail | News, Sports, Jobs – Adirondack Daily Enterprise

Warren County leaders hope to allow public access to the Swede Mountain fire tower, which is on land that Warren County owns off Route 8 in Hague, just east of the Horicon town line. But the county’s property is surrounded by forestland owned by Lyme Adirondack Timberlands, which has asked for compensation to allow access to the property.

That price tag would have been $3,000 a year, paid through the county’s bed tax on hotel, motel and bed-and-breakfast rooms. But some supervisors took issue with the price last month and tabled a vote on the contract to seek a better deal.

Warren County Administrator Ryan Moore went back to Lyme, which agreed to cut the price to $2,500 per year for five years.

September 5, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Beautiful Fall Thursday. The skies are blue, the sun is shining, it’s comfortable, not only too cool or hot. Nice walk down to the bus. 🚌 Wore my Carhartt vest for the first time this year. Next Thursday is 6:30 Sunrise 🌇. Mornings are a bit dark now although surpringly I awoke pretty early, made eggs for breakfast 🍳 and pasta for lunch 🍲. Mostly sunny and 56 degrees in Delmar, NY. ☀☀☀☀ Even though there is only one sun, I’ll give it four this morning. Calm wind. The dew point is 51 degrees.

Today will be sunny 🌞, with a high of 73 degrees at 2pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 13th. Maximum dew point of 51 at 8am. Calm wind becoming north around 5 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. It was very sticky. The high last year was 92 degrees. The record high was set last year.

The sun will set at 7:22 pm with dusk around 7:51 pm, which is one minute and 44 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌇 At sunset, look for mostly clear skies 🌄 and temperatures around 65 degrees. The dew point will be 48 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 12 hours and 57 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 48 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly clear 🌃, with a low of 50 degrees at 4am. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 19th. Calm wind. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It was very sticky. It got down to 69 degrees. The record low of 38 occurred back in 1938.

Last night I went for my evening walk early — before sunset 🚶 and it was quite pleasant. I’ve gotten out of the habit of the evening walk, and I didn’t want to risk getting busy with the work project I was doing last night, and then miss my walk. That was a good thing, because I ended up working on that project until almost 11 PM.💻

A picture perfect autumn weekend on tap. 😎 Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 70. North wind around 7 mph. Maximum dew point of 55 at 5pm. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 72. Maximum dew point of 55 at 10am. Typical average high for the weekend is 76 degrees.

I think Saturday I will stay in town, but Sunday go out hiking. 🚶 I have a lot of things to do around home on Saturday including get my hair cut, but maybe I’ll hike out to Five Rivers in the afternoon. 🐸 Sunday I may go hiking in the Catskills, or maybe hunting/fishing at Partridge Run. 🎣🐿️ I really enjoyed hiking Hunter Mountain the other day, so I’m thinking another hike would be nice.⛰

I was thinking last night that it’s been 18 years since the September 11th terrorist attacks. 🏢 A child born shortly after September 11th 👶 can now vote in the election this year. ❎ I was a freshman in college, 18 years old when the attacks hit. That’s half a lifetime ago now for me. It makes the eighteen years between birth 🎂 and high school graduation 🎓 seem so inconsequential. Assuming I “retire” young to have my off grid cabin and hobby farm 🐮🐷🐤, in another 18 years I’ll likely be close to retirement.

One month until my October Road Trip to West Virginia. 🍂 The first day I will drive down to Towanda Penna, then down to West Virginia via Interstate 99 on that Sunday. 🏕 I’m hoping for real nice weather, and this being a week earlier then last year, hopefully the leaves will be close to peak in higher elevations, such as off of Spruce Mountain and Canaan Heights.

As previously noted, next Thursday is 6:30 Sunrise 🌇 when the sun will be setting at 7:10 pm with dusk at 7:38 pm. On that day in 2018, we had humid, partly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 74 and 66 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 74 degrees. We hit a record high of 94 back in 1947.
