Route Listings: M-22
In 2012, the M-22 route marker became the center of a legal and financial debate over whether a business can trademark a specific state highway route marker and prevent others from selling merchandise with the depiction of any other state highway route on it, not just the original one trademarked. In 2003, Matt and Keegan Myers began making and selling t-shirts and stickers featuring a close approximation of the M-22 route marker (they don't utilize the actual FHWA typeface for the numerals "22") and started using the slogan, "M-22 is not just a road; it is a way of life." They claimed it is "marked by the simplicity and appreciation for natural wonders such as bays, beaches and bonfires, dunes and vineyards, cottages, friends and family everywhere." οΏ½οΏ½οΏ½οΏ½οΏ½Soon after Keegan was featured on the cover of Traverse magazine wearing one of the brothers' M-22 t-shirts in 2006, sales of the shirts and stickers bearing the M-22 route marker started taking off. Soon, the pair began working with other retailers in Leelanau Co to produce additional apparel and accessory lines, including coffee and an M-22 brand of wine. An M-22 "company store" was opened in November 2007 in downtown Traverse City as well and the brothers filed for trademark protection for their M-22 logo in 2010 to further support the branding effort. Meanwhile, Heidi Marshall and Mary Roberts of Route Scouts, LLC in Harbor Springs started making souvenirs using the M-119 route marker and even tried to trademark it. Their effort failed when the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office denied the application when it responded that it was 'too similar to the M22 registered trademark."

And like that my information was sold through the internet and one advertisement led to another. My bank emailed me reminding me once again that they have very low interest rates on auto loans.
The internet might be all knowing but it also seems like it makes a lot of mistakes. For one, my love of clicking on and reading about low income services, has lead the internet to assume I’m interested in buying another clunker, that I need creative finance at high interest rates to make it happen. Plus I’m curious how much residual value my truck has for shits and giggles. If I bought another car, I’d probably use cash. That said, I’m interested in trolling marketers and like reading the fine print of subprime dealers. I’d also not buy an old truck when I already own one.
But I’m in no hurry to buy a car. Big Red probably has at least another year or more of life left, and new cars (that is big 4x4s) are so expensive. The alignment has dramatically slowed the tire wear on the 35s. New cars are cheaper when you buy with cash but still expensive. I might try to go car less for a few years to save money and get to know my community and neighborhood better – and just rent a car for vacations. I feel like I miss so much of world by motoring rather than walking or bicycling. It would certainly help to reduce my carbon footprint, says the boy in the big jacked up truck.

If you're tired of binge-watching TV during the pandemic, Mother Nature has an alternative. All you have to do is go outside between about 2 a.m. Wednesday and dawn local time, lie on your back and look up at the sky. The meteors and fireballs of the Perseid meteor shower should be streaking.
NASA says it's "one of the best" meteor shows of the year. That's because of the sheer number of meteors — 50 to 100 meteors to catch per hour as well as their fireballs — larger, brighter explosions of light and color that last longer than an average meteor streak.

I wish I hadn’t bothered with loading the kayak πΆ on the roof of the truck blocking the solar panel but the alternator will be fine. I might still go for a paddle later on but only if the wind dies down π. Despite the heat it’s remarkably breezy at least by the pool. Tomorrow I might instead go for a paddle.

Sometimes you have to compromise during a global pandemic but still summer must go on.
