Good evening! Mostly clear and 66 degrees at Mason Lake. 🌃 Calm wind. The dew point is 59 degrees.

Not right on the lake like last time I camped up here but so be it. ⛺ This campsite has decent sunshine and okay cell service so I’m hoping to work all day here tomorrow but it will depend on if I need high speed internet for work and how hot it gets and how much I want to go to Spectulator Beach for a swim. 🏊

Kept camp simple for the night 🌃 as I just wanted to hang out and relax and I wanted to avoid draining the battery bank 🔋 so I have plenty of energy ⚡ for work tomorrow. The truth is the propane lantern 🏮 in the screen tent plus the ordinary 12 volt lamp in the truck cap is plenty.

Gathering wood for the fire 🔥 I think I wandered into a patch of poison ivy. 🌿Not sure if I got any of the urushol on my legs but I washed them down with water 💦 and soap and changed my socks. I also washed my hands. ✋ Hoping I won’t break out later in the weekend. I knew about the poison ivy in the area and I spotted several three leaf plants near the campsite but most of them where black berry. The poison ivy was down the road from camp.

Tonight will have patchy fog after 3am. Otherwise, partly cloudy , with a low of 58 degrees at 5am. Typical for tonight. Maximum dew point of 59 at 11pm. Calm wind. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It was humid. It got down to 66 degrees. The record low of 38 occurred back in 1950.

Tired 😴 and it was relatively late by the time I got up here as I worked from home and had a few loose ends so I didn’t get to leave right at five. Plus this area is a bit longer drive than Piseco Powley Road which not only is closed on the south end but lacks the essential cell service I need for work. 📝

Tonight will have a Waining Crescent 🌘 Moon with 5% illuminated. Really good for observing 🔭 the stars tonight – quite clear. The Buck 🦌 Moon is on Thursday, July 2. The darkest hour is at 1:00 am, followed by dawn at 4:41 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:17 am in the northeast (56°) and last for 3 minutes and 32 seconds. Sunrise is 7 seconds later than yesterday. 🌄 The golden hour ends at 6:01 am with sun in the east-northeast (63°). Tonight will have 8 hours and 34 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 9 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have isolated showers and thunderstorms after 1pm. Patchy fog before 8am. Otherwise, mostly sunny , with a high of 80 degrees at 3pm. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 22nd. Maximum dew point of 61 at 7am. ☀ Light south wind. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 79 degrees. The record high of 94 was set in 1995.

So at the meeting today we were told we had to work a half day on Saturday 💻 and to plan on working late Monday and Tuesday. That said, I’ll probably just work from camp. Going to have to change sites on Sunday but I have a plan. If I can’t get the site I want I might head home Sunday night. Otherwise I’ll stay up until Wednesday – and the who knows. I was thinking I could head up north of Tupper Lake or even up to Saint Lawrence County or maybe the places in the Tug Hill where I have good reception 📶. From the meeting this morning it sounds like our physical office 🏢 won’t be reopening anytime soon. I just hope the bus service is back up and running before then. 🚍

Big Red drives nice with the new ball joints and tie rod ends. 🚘 It wasn’t cheap and while if I was a mechanic I could have saved a bucket of money 🔧 I shouldn’t have to worry about either failing in the life of the vehicle at this point. I can cringe at the cost but I knew it would be necessary after a number of years with the lift kit – which has been on the truck for five and a half years now. I’m much more able to get in and out of tight turns and it rides quieter and steers a hell of a lot better. Hopefully the uneven tire wear will be arrested too. I had budgeted for it when I bought the lift kit and it’s not like I’ve not destroyed them on every other car I’ve owned with the shitty roads I drive. Price the shop quoted me was basically the same price as when I had a similar job quoted on my old truck years ago.

My truck may be pissing a lot of money away 💸 but having a fun car at least once when you are young is worth it if only for the lifetime of memories. I’ve learned so much about batteries 🔋, electricity and solar power and its lead to many nights in the wilderness. 🐺 Could I have given the money away to feed needy children 🚸 or invested it?💰 Sure but it was luxury I could afford and I go without plenty of things like air conditioning, or high speed internet at home. I don’t take expensive vacations, I’m happier wilderness camping ⛺.

The fan I bought yesterday 💨seems to be quite powerful and when the motor heats up uses a little under 35 watts and a bit more when cold. It’s alternating current so there will be greater inverter and reactance loses than my DC fan I use in my truck cap but it’s a lot easier to run 120 volt AC line back to the screen tent 🎪 especially if I’m also charging my laptop and phone 📱 for work.

In four weeks on July 16 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (301°) at 8:35 pm,🌄 which is 6 minutes and 4 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had hot, humid, partly sunny, thunderstorm and temperatures between 92 and 60 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 83 and 62 degrees. The record high of 97 degrees was set back in 1900.

Settles Hill

June 9, 2020 Night

Good evening! Partly clear and 68 degrees Mason Lake. 🌟 Calm wind. The dew point is 54 degrees.

Sitting down by the lake, listening to the frogs 🐸, a screech owl and a loon. Drinking a beer 🍻 looking up at stars ✨. One firefly in the air. 🐝 Also a bit of a noisy party with people hanging out at a campsite down the lake. ✨ Checking out the stars with the star gazing app on my phone.

After packing up and organizing my gear, I ended up working from my campsite all day. ⛺ I just moved Big Red a few feet to make sure it was parked in the sun to keep the laptop and battery bank charged. Packing things up helped get things a lot more organized – and this morning had more downtime then recent. Finally hung up the flags 🎌 and hammock and electric lights tonight. They do make camping kind of more fun.

It’s night three at this campsite so I have to take camp down in the morning. 🌅 I I’m going to work down in Speculator – probably just using my phone and if necessary the cellular internet on the work laptop and in the afternoon will work down at the Speculator library until 5 pm. Strangely enough it wasn’t until this afternoon I hung up the flags 🎌 or the hammock but I’ve been so busy this week – I was tired 😴 after hiking Sunday and Monday I had to work late and by the time I had dinner and went fishing 🎣 it was dark and I had to call it a night 🌃.

Come the close of business tomorrow 💼 it will have been a six night camping trip with five days of work and a weekend through in when I did some hiking. Left last Thursday at 6 am before work, I’ll be home before 8 pm Wednesday this week. Because five out of the seven days were work days and my office has been quite busy, I won’t say I did a lot of scenic viewing but the hike through the dirt logging trails of Perkins Clearing to the Speculator Pig Rock 🐽 and Jessup River 🐠, the hike to Fawn Lake and Wilcox Vly were nice. 🚶 As was fishing 🎣 down at Mason Lake after work and hiking the Speculator Nature Trail several times. Solar for the most part kept my work laptop 💻 well charged.

But alas I’m running low on clothes 👖 and food 🍔 so I need to head home tomorrow after work. The ice will be gone by tomorrow but I have little left to spoil. There is no reason this can’t repeat in two weeks should my office remain closed. 🏢 That said I kind of expect to be riding the bus 🚍 to work downtown next week even though nothing formal has been announced yet. Autumn though maybe the pandemic will be back and I can hunt before work. Plus a lack of sun later in the week poses a problem for keeping the meccessary electrons flowing.

Tonight will be partly cloudy 🌤, with a low of 54 degrees at 5am. One degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around June 8th. Maximum dew point of 54 at 10pm. Light east wind. In 2019, we had partly cloudy skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 53 degrees. The record low of 36 occurred back in 1975.

Tonight will have a Waining Gibbous 🌖 Moon with 79% illuminated. The darkest hour is at 12:58 am, followed by dawn at 4:42 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:17 am in the east-northeast (57°) and last for 3 minutes and 31 seconds. Sunrise is 12 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌄 The golden hour ends at 6:01 am with sun in the east-northeast (64°). Tonight will have 8 hours and 38 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 46 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly after 4pm. ⚡ Some of the storms could produce small hail, gusty winds, and heavy rain. Increasing clouds 🌧, with a high of 74 degrees at 3pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 2nd. Maximum dew point of 66 at 5pm. Southeast wind 6 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 81 degrees. The record high of 96 was set in 2008.

My goal is to take down camp quite early tomorrow and be on the road to Speculator 🚙 which is only a ten minute drive away. Then get into the meat 🍖 of the day, get client issues addressed and maybe if there is a little downtime before 11 am hop in the Speculator Beach or hike at the nature trail. I’m hoping I won’t have to work late like on Monday. Then I’m pretty sure I’ll drive home. Not thinking it’s going to be that cloudy ⛅ all day and while there may be some severe thunderstorm ⚡ in the afternoon I feel relatively safe working inside the truck. I’ll shut off the inverter and unplug the laptop if there is severe lightning.

Honesty, working up in the Adirondacks has been a lot more productive than working at home 🏡 or in the office 🏢. For one, I don’t use my work laptop for any personal business including checking the weather or news 📰 and certainly not my blog. If I was in the office on the wired or Wi-Fi internet, especially in my personal laptop I’d be checking social media multiple times a day, reading the news and probably streaming a YouTube video in the background. 📹 I also feel like while I’m working remotely, especially in the Adirondacks camping, I have to be super responsive to client texts, calls and emails especially during work hours. 📟 While I try to be serious at work, remote work from the Adirondacks I’m twice as serious about doing my job to the best of my ability. I don’t want to make it seem like I’m on vacation. 🏊

In four weeks on July 7 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (303°) at 8:40 pm,🌄 which is 3 minutes later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had humid, mostly sunny and temperatures between 81 and 64 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 82 and 61 degrees. The record high of 97 degrees was set back in 1988.

Looking ahead, Primary Day 🗳️ is in 2 weeks, Election Day 2020 🗳️ is in 21 weeks and Election Day 2020 🗳️ is in 21 weeks.

June 8, 2020 Night

Good evening! Partly clear and 61 degrees at the Perkins Clearing. ☁ A lot of high clouds. There is a northwest breeze at 8 mph. 🍃. The dew point is 42 degrees.

The past two nights I’ve been keeping it simple with no flags or electric lights. 💡 Just a small fire 🔥 tonight and none last night. It doesn’t get dark until late this time of year and the problem is that if I stay up late and wake up around dawn I’m not getting enough sleep. 😴 I was doing so well before the pandemic started at getting to bed early – especially with my earlier work hours 🕒 but I kind of fell of a clift when work at home started and I didn’t have to factor in commute time and could eat breakfast 🍳 while working.

It was a busy day with work once things got fully underway around 10. I ended up driving down to Speculator today, to use the Speculator Library Wi-Fi. 📙 I was having trouble uploading data into the computer database so I needed Wi-Fi. That was fine as I was busy today at work and then Wi-Fi is so much faster and more reliable than the cellular service. 📶 For a while mid afternoon it felt like I was a short order cook and ended up working into the evening. Did a little bit of fishing down a Mason Lake 🎣 which was so buggy. I should have brought bug spray down to the lake because I’m sure the fish were biting but I had some burgers 🍔 made from the very over priced grounded hamburger mest I bought down at Charlie John’s. Beef 🐄 is pricey with the pandemic closing the slaughter houses even though farmers struggle to sell their cows.

Tonight will be partly cloudy 🌤, with a low of 48 degrees at 5am. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 20th. West wind 5 to 8 mph. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 49 degrees. The record low of 37 occurred back in 1977.

Tonight will have a Waining Gibbous 🌖 Moon with 87% illuminated. The moon will rise at 11:36 pm. The darkest hour is at 12:58 am, followed by dawn at 4:42 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:18 am in the east-northeast (57°) and last for 3 minutes and 31 seconds. Sunrise is 14 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌄 The golden hour ends at 6:01 am with sun in the east-northeast (64°). Tonight will have 8 hours and 39 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 50 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have isolated showers after 2pm. Mostly sunny 🌞, with a high of 77 degrees at 4pm. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 10th. Maximum dew point of 52 at 6pm. West wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 83 degrees. The record high of 100 was set in 1933.

While technically I can stay at this campsite one more night 🌃, I think I will take down camp by mid morning and head into town. I might camp somewhere closer to Speculator tomorrow night or I might drive home. It depends how late I have to work. Or maybe I’ll stay here one more night. Wednesday looks stormy by afternoon which I could work down at the Speculator library but a bad thunderstorm could make it hard to work with pounding rain ☔ on the roof of the truck.

In four weeks on July 6 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (303°) at 8:41 pm,🌄 which is 3 minutes and 59 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had rain and temperatures between 92 and 73 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 82 and 61 degrees. The record high of 97 degrees was set back in 1886.

As of tomorrow I will have been up in the Adirondacks for six days, working four of them. 💼 It’s not been days at the beach, honestly it’s been a lot of hours on the phone talking to clients, 📞 writing emails 📧 and memos 📝. It’s also been a lot of hours at the library parking lot using the Wi-Fi. I will have worked a total of seven work days between the two trips since Memorial Day Weekend. Kind of like a vacation week without actually taking time off work so far I’ve clocked in 44 hours working up north – over a work week. But with work from vacation land.

Looking ahead, Average High is 80 🏖 is in 2 weeks.

 Clearing At Stewart Landing

June 4, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Thursday. Partly sunny and 61 degrees at the Speculator Village Park. There is a west breeze at 10 mph. 🍃. The dew point is 56 degrees. It was neat watching the deer graze along the river early this morning.

So I’m up in the Adirondacks for an indeterminate time period 🗻 like most of us are living through these days. Working from my phone and the Speculator library Wi-Fi, 📶 might as well take advantage of the nice weather and remote work before the office reopens at some point in the near future. Wearing a banada over my face won’t be fun while working, although I have a private office at my current job 🏢 so I doubt I’ll have wear a mask in the office.

It should be a nice weekend up north, ⛺ although I’ll have to watch out for thunderstorms and plan appropriately with the battery 🔋 bank to keep things properly charged. I have enough food and supplies through probably Monday but I’ll need ice from Speculator before then so I can get additional supplies as needed if I decide to stay longer. I will have to move to a different campsite if I stay beyond Sunday but next week is kind of up in the air. Once I’m set up at camp I probably won’t drive anywhere, instead just hanging out and relaxing and walking wherever I need to go like down to the swimming 🏊 or fishing 🎣 hole.

Today will be mostly sunny 🌞, with a high of 77 degrees at 3pm. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 10th. Maximum dew point of 56 at 9am. It should be a great day outside. West wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning, which became light rain by afternoon. The high last year was 70 degrees. The record high of 97 was set in 1919.

Today’s plan between the emails and the messages and calls 📞 is to some birding 🐦 and enjoying the sun before setting up camp. After 11 am I expect a fairly busy day but my laptops are fully charged and ready to go so I anticipate no issues. 💻 Plus I should have ample solar. ☀

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:57 pm with sun having an altitude of 69° from the due south horizon (-0.9° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.3 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour 🏅 starts at 7:52 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (296°). 📸 The sunset is in the west-northwest (303°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:35 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 29 seconds with dusk around 9:09 pm, which is 44 seconds later than yesterday. 🌇 At dusk you’ll see the Full 🌝 Moon in the southeast (134°) at an altitude of 14° from the horizon, 230,416 miles away. 🚀 The best time to look at the stars is after 9:56 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies 🌄 and temperatures around 71 degrees. The dew point will be 55 degrees. There will be a west-southwest breeze at 8 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 16 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 7 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be partly cloudy 🌤, with a low of 57 degrees at 5am. Four degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around June 15th. Maximum dew point of 56 at 4am. Southwest wind 6 to 8 mph. In 2019, we had light rain in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 55 degrees. The record low of 39 occurred back in 1990.

I am glad that the state is forcing stores to take back cans 🍻 starting this week. While ultimately I found eight cans in my refrigerator I didn’t buy any more beer for camping in ground I didn’t have a lot of space for empties. I didn’t want to have to make a special trip to the transfer station to dispose of them – it’s not like you can burn aluminum cans. ♻ Most Coronavirus is passed by close physical contact indoors so it seems silly to ban returns. Instead I bought apple 🍏 juice which is not only cheaper but also slightly more healthy even if it junk food with all the natural sugars and calories. But I plan to be splitting wood and hiking this weekend so I’ll have plenty a chance to burn calories.

Next week I’m going to call the mechanic 🔧 about the toe in on the rear left tire which is now showing very noticeable wear. I think something was bent when I damaged that shock bushing back in 2017. I’ve known about the issue for a while but rotating the tires addressed it but now that things are getting worn down its more noticeable. I was hoping to wait to do repairs and get a full alignment when I got new tires in a year or two but it needs to be addressed sooner than later. I know it should have been the responsible thing to do some time ago. 🙍

Right now, a split verdict on the weekend. 😕 Saturday, a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly sunny, with a high near 72. West wind 9 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. Maximum dew point of 57 at 6am. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 66. Maximum dew point of 45 at 8am. Typical average high for the weekend is 75 degrees.

It’s actually going to be pretty cool up north 🍃 but hopefully with the sun won’t be too bad. I left the kayak home 🚣 as I didn’t want to have to bother taking it on and off for the needed solar power for work.

Heading Back to Camp

June 3, 2020 Morning

Good morning! What day is it? It’s a dusty delta day, of course. So Bobby Gentrie made famous with the Ode to Billie Joe. Good day for throwing flowers 🌸 off bridges. Three weeks to Latest Sunset 🌆. Cloudy and 61 degrees in Delmar, NY. ☁ There is a south breeze at 9 mph. 🍃. The dew point is 56 degrees. The skies will clear around 4 pm.

Nice morning, heading out for my morning walk in a bit. 🚶 Pancakes and coffee ☕ for breakfast then it’s down to work, a busy day ahead. Busy enough I actually ended up doing some work last evening before bed. That’s why I ended up skipping on the blog post for the night.

After work or in the off chance I have downtime today I’ll start packing for camping ⛺. I am probably going to go up to the Adirondacks for 4-5 days, although it’s a bit uncertain based on the weather. More remote work this week although with the Capital Region in Phase 2 I tend to think my office 🏢 will be reopening soon. I haven’t heard anything from CDTA when the bus service will resume but I expect it’s coming back relatively soon. I will probably camp at the campsite where I have the good cell phone reception 📶 and lots of sun for solar. This time I’m not bringing the kayak just because working up there I need the solar in the day time and it’s kind of pain to take on and off repeatedly.

Today will have a chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 1pm. Mostly cloudy 🌦, with a high of 77 degrees at 3pm. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 10th. Maximum dew point of 63 at 12pm. South wind 9 to 15 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. The high last year was 65 degrees. The record high of 97 was set in 1925.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:55 pm with sun having an altitude of 69.8° from the due south horizon (-1.1° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.2 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour 🏅 starts at 7:47 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (295°). 📸 The sunset is in the west-northwest (302°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:29 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 25 seconds with dusk around 9:02 pm, which is 44 seconds later than yesterday. 🌇 At dusk you’ll see the Full 🌝 Moon in the southeast (142°) at an altitude of 24° from the horizon, 228,490 miles away. 🚀 The best time to look at the stars is after 9:47 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies 🌄 and temperatures around 73 degrees. The dew point will be 60 degrees. There will be a west breeze at 14 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 9 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 8 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be partly cloudy 🌤, with a low of 58 degrees at 5am. Five degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around June 19th. Maximum dew point of 60 at 7pm. West wind 6 to 14 mph. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 47 degrees. The record low of 36 occurred back in 1947.

Right now, a split verdict on the weekend. 😕 Saturday, a chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 82. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Maximum dew point of 64 at 8am. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 73. Maximum dew point of 52 at 6am. Typical average high for the weekend is 75 degrees.

As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until Latest Sunset 🌆 when the sun will be setting at 8:37 pm with dusk at 9:12 pm. On that day in 2019, we had partly cloudy and temperatures between 85 and 56 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 80 degrees. We hit a record high of 96 back in 1943.

 Busy Spring Morning

May 26, 2020 Night

Good evening. Clear and 74 degrees at the Perkins Clearing. 🌃 Light south breeze. The dew point is 62 degrees. A beautiful night, after laying in the hammock for a while looking at the stars I decided to start a small campfire 🔥 just to sit by and look at while starring up at the skies. I’ve dimmed the lights for the evening, and it’s very starry 🌟 on this final night of camping. Saw one intensely bright shooting star fall from the sky – kind of burned up with a bright flash. Made a wish and looked in disbelief that suddenly its 2020.

Tonight should be a nice night, partly cloudy 🌧, with a low of 61 degrees at 4am. 🌃 10 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around July 3rd. Maximum dew point of 62 at 9pm. Doesn’t feel that muggy here. But then again, I’m just hanging out by the fire and it’s a small one. Dry enough I will put it out cold before bed. A lot of dry grass around this campsite even as the green grass grows back up around it. Light south wind. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 55 degrees. The record low of 30 occurred back in 1969.

Tonight will have a Waxing Crescent 🌒 Moon with 18% illuminated. Nice strong moon shadow tonight too. At 9 PM, the moon was in the west (272°) at an altitude of 33° from the horizon, some 234,985 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. 🚀 At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by November 21st. Buckle up for safety! 💺 The Strawberry 🍓 Moon is on Friday, June 5. The darkest hour is at 12:56 am, followed by dawn at 4:49 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:24 am in the east-northeast (59°) and last for 3 minutes and 25 seconds. Sunrise is 42 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌄 The golden hour ends at 6:06 am with sun in the east-northeast (66°). Tonight will have 8 hours and 54 minutes of darkness, a decrease of one minute and 36 seconds over last night.

A fairly quiet but busy work day from camp. ⛺ Lots of phone calls 📞 and emails ✉ sent, lots of client business done. Memos written 📝 questions 🙋 answered. Kind of like working from home only more scenic. Very quiet up here now that the holiday weekend is over, I think I saw maybe three cars all weekend.

Tomorrow after I take down camp I’ll work from the Lake Algonquin Park and Speculator Beach or library if I need more bandwidth then I can do over my phone. 😎 Maybe get a burger 🍔 or something for lunch and ice cream for the heat 🍦, possibly dip my feet in at the beach and when work is done at five, head home 🏡. Honestly, I think I’m just as productive remote working from the Adirondacks 🗻 and a whole less stressed. And by the time I get home the heat wave 🌊 should be largely broken.

Had some rain showers today ☔ and a few claps of thunder ⚡ but nothing to dramatic. One shower probably could be heard a bit on a client call 📞 but I’ll chock it up to rain on the roof – of the screen tent. By no means does the tent 🎪 block all the rain but with the tarp I used to create shade it worked well enough.

Food today 🍲 was kind what I had leftover, I packed food and clothes for a maximum of four days and I’m day five of the trip. Lunch was tuna fish salad with breakfast sausage and pasta, while dinner was creamed corn, refried beans, pasta with mayo and cheese along with breakfast sausage. 👍 A garbage plate, yes but I wanted to eat up what I had before it went bad.

Tomorrow will have patchy fog before 8am. Otherwise, mostly sunny 🌞, with a high of 85 degrees at 3pm. 12 degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 65 at 8am. Going to be sticky by the time I awake but this night is real pleasant. Calm wind becoming south 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 81 degrees. The record high of 94 was set in 1914.

In four weeks on June 23 the sun will be setting in the northwest (304°) at 8:42 pm,🌄 which is 15 minutes and 41 seconds later then tonight. The sun doesn’t set much later then it does now – only a fifteen minute gain. In 2019 on that day, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 84 and 55 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 80 and 59 degrees. The record high of 96 degrees was set back in 1888.

Tonight is the last night camping ⛺ for my Memorial Day Weekend remote working trip, but it has inspired me to do more similar adventures in the future as long as I plan places that have good cell phone reception and sun for the solar panel. Over the past five days I’ve used over 1,000 watt hours of solar power camping, mostly for my laptop and phone charger for work and some camp lighting and starting battery 🔋 topping but that’s not been a lot quite honestly compared to keeping the laptop charged for work. I’m thinking a possible weekend next in Schoharie County may be next, but that’s a few weeks off and remote work may end sooner than later and it’s back to the old dungeon office 🏢. And riding the CDTA bus 🚍 to work every day. How novel public transportation seems these days. I do kind of miss the days of yore but I like the wilder side of life too during the pandemic. Maybe if they reopen Cherry Ridge 🍒 I can camp and remote work from the wilds of Madison County and do a nice day trip down to Rogers Center on the weekend for bird 🐦 watching.

Looking ahead, Primary Day 🗳️ is in 4 weeks, Election Day 2020 🗳️ is in 23 weeks and Election Day 2020 🗳️ is in 23 weeks.

Good evening! Clear and 60 degrees in Delmar, NY. Calm wind. 🌃 Beautiful evening for sure but it’s time for me to head in and retire to bed. I’m sleepy 😴 as I took a sleeping pill 💊 and the last of the doxycycline.

Nice evening after a beautiful day, ☀ got a little sunburnt on my left arm 🙋 working out of my truck most of the day. I did both a morning and evening walk for a total of 5 plus miles today. I participated in the virtual Save the Pine Bush Dinner which lacked lasagna but had a good dinner speaker 🍲 over the Zoom and the phone 📱 in my case. Worked on some stuff for Save the Pine Bush.

Didn’t get out to Five Rivers Environmental Education Center today but I did some backyard bird watching 🐦 along with spotting some deer, rabbit 🐰 and squirrel. A great beautiful male cardinal too. So much nature right in the backyard.

The day was kind of messed up in my head for work 💼 as they changed the times for meetings and I was groggy from the sleeping pill 💊 I took the previous night 🌃. I drove down to the library with my tailgate down but fortunately nothing fell out despite having the camping gear loaded in back. Fuse box and bus bar are working good as is the solar in my truck.

Tonight will be clear 🌃, with a low of 41 degrees at 4am. Eight degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 27th. South wind around 5 mph becoming calm after midnight. In 2019, we had partly cloudy skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 50 degrees. The record low of 32 occurred back in 1949.

Tonight will have a Waining Crescent 🌘 Moon with 2% illuminated. Going to be a very starry weekend. 🌟 Bugs might be bad though and I’ll be hiding out under the screen tent 🎪. Coming tomorrow! The darkest hour is at 12:53 am, followed by dawn at 4:56 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:29 am in the east-northeast (61°) and last for 3 minutes and 17 seconds. Sunrise is 52 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌄 The golden hour ends at 6:10 am with sun in the east-northeast (68°). Tonight will have 9 hours and 10 minutes of darkness, a decrease of one minute and 49 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be sunny 🌞, with a high of 74 degrees at 3pm. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 31st. Calm wind becoming south 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 67 degrees. The record high of 92 was set in 1941. There was a dusting of snow in 1895.❄

I’m getting ready for bed as I’m tired 😴 and have stayed up too late lately and need to get up by five o’clock in the morning on Friday to get up to camp, get set up and start work at nine. Friday and Monday will be working vacation days. Plus if I don’t get there early enough there is no way I’m going to get the campsite I want. ⛺

I’ve already gotten the stuff I need out of the attic and the started packing the truck. Water jugs have been filled. Coolers prepped and started packing clothes. Tomorrow I’ll go to the laundromat and work from there 👚 while I clean my clothes then after work get beer 🍻 and food for the weekend. Load the kayak up and pack everything but the coolers so I can hit the road no later than 6:20 Friday morning to leave plenty of time before I need to clock in 🕒 and work using my phone and work laptop.

I am going to bring the kayak 🚣 and do some paddling and fishing 🎣 over the weekend but because I’m working on both Friday and Monday – and fielding inevitable client calls 📞 over the weekend this will be a somewhat downscaled trip. But still relaxing and it will beat being home. 🏡

In four weeks on June 17 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (304°) at 8:35 pm,🌄 which is 19 minutes and 35 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 80 and 61 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 79 and 57 degrees. The record high of 94 degrees was set back in 1994.

I am hopeful in the coming weeks that Piseco Road ⛺ will get finished rebuilding and reopened for access to the potholers and Powley Place. 🏊 Last autumn that got it partially repaired for the snow machines but apparently not fully rebuilt for car traffic. 😔

I am thinking Moose River Plains for the fourth of July again this year ⛺ but I’ll take a wait and see approach. Things should hopefully quiet down a bit by then at work. That said I might want to camp in a more remote part of the plains if it looks like the pandemic is still raging come July but I doubt with the heat and sun, it will be in a slumber until autumn.

Looking ahead, Summer ️⛱️ is a month away, Latest Sunset 🌆 is in 5 weeks and Inauguration Day 2021 👴🏻 is in 8 months.

🇺🇸🦅Only 2 days remain until the start of Memorial Day Weekend!🦅🇺🇸
