February 7, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Yeah, it’s Friday! Next Friday is Valentines Day ❀️. Rain, mist and 36 degrees at the Elm Ave Park & Ride – CDTA. β˜” There is a northeast breeze at 5 mph. 🍃. There is a inch of snow and ice on the ground. β˜ƒ Going to rain all day until it turns to snow and then gets real cold. Hello, February. ️Temperatures will drop below freezing at around 2 pm. β˜ƒοΈ

I decided to walk down to the express bus 🚍 but it was raining or misting fairly hard. Not a nice day to be outside and it only is going to get worse. Reminds me of that one night I camped up on the Boereas River and NY 28 several years ago in December. β›Ί Icy snow and rain. That was before I had the propane heater and only a very smokey campfire to keep warm.

I knocked the remaining snow and ice off Big Red 🚘 in hopes things won’t be too much of a frozen mess come Saturday. Still not sure if I’m going to drive anywhere tomorrow, it’s going to be pretty bitterly cold with the wind but a fair amount of sun β˜€. I might just stay home and walk down to the library 📚.

Today will rain and sleet before 2pm, then rain and snow between 2pm and 3pm, then snow likely after 3pm. Temperature falling to around 27 by 5pm. β˜”β›„ Windy, with a northeast wind 5 to 10 mph becoming west 19 to 29 mph. Winds could gust as high as 49 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Total daytime snow and sleet accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 47 degrees. The record high of 48 was set in 2005. 12.4 inches of snow fell back in 1983.❄

I totally expect a miserable and slow icy commute home this evening 💦 but maybe they’ll close the office early or they’ll get a lot of salt on the roads to prevent icing. The good news is that I live in the city so not so far to go. If it’s bad and I don’t see the local coming I’ll take the local home. 🚍

The wind chill around sunset will be 11. β˜ƒοΈBlustery, 🌬 with a stiff breeze at 30 mph the west-northwest with gusts up to 52mph. Going to be frigid, especially downtown. I turned my heat up a few degrees before leaving home to ensure my apartment isn’t too cold by the time I get home on what will be the most blustery of evenings. Today will have 10 hours and 13 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 30 seconds over yesterday.

Frozen Swamp Above the Gulf

February 6, 2020 Night

Good evening! Rain and 33 degrees in Delmar, NY. β˜” Calm wind. There is a inch of snow on the ground. β˜ƒ ️Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 3 pm. β˜ƒοΈ

It’s above freezing by a little bit in Albany 💦 so the roads are just wet and salty. I cleaned off my truck of the inch of snow and ice as I think it’s going to turn to snow tomorrow followed by a hard freeze Saturday and I didn’t want things to freeze up on my truck. Things were a little icy on the truck but the warmer temperatures this evening made for relatively easy scraping.

The primary business of the evening was going to the Rick Sieves film showing 🎥 at the library than I came home rode the exercise bike 🚲 for a bit and read 📖 mote of the Almost President book. My neighbor works night shift tonight so no concerns with bothering him with the noise of the bike. Time for bed soon with lights out.

Tonight will rain likely before 1am, then showers likely after 1am. Cloudy 🌧, with a low of 32 degrees at 9pm. 16 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 1st. Northeast wind 3 to 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. In 2019, we had light rain in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 36 degrees. The record low of -18 occurred back in 1995.

Tonight will have a Waxing Gibbous 🌖 Moon with 93% illuminated. At 9 PM, the moon was in the southeast (137Β°) at an altitude of 66Β° from the horizon, some 234,266 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. 🚀 At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by August 2nd. Buckle up for safety! 💺 The Snow ❄ Moon is on Sunday, February 9. The darkest hour is at 12:10 am, followed by dawn at 6:36 am, and sun starting to rise at 7:06 am in the east-southeast (111Β°) and last for 3 minutes and 7 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 10 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌄 The golden hour ends at 7:46 am with sun in the east-southeast (118Β°). Tonight will have 13 hours and 48 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 31 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will rain before 2pm, then rain and snow between 2pm and 3pm, then snow likely after 3pm. 🌦 High of 36 degrees at 10am. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 19th. Breezy, with a light and variable wind becoming northwest 17 to 22 mph in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 37 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible. I think tomorrow’s commute home could be very icy and a slog but at least I don’t have to drive in it and can just play on my phone 📱. I might take the local into work tomorrow if it’s raining hard in the morning. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, which became light freezing rain by afternoon. The high last year was 47 degrees. The record high of 48 was set in 2005. 12.4 inches of snow fell back in 1983.❄

I am pretty sure I can do some neat things with the automatic bus locator feed I posted earlier. 🚍 While I doubt I’ll mess too much with Google maps – although I certainly could, I do think that I could do a lot with it client side Javascript and making a simple but fast index of the location of all the buses on a route for checking on one’s phones and maybe also tracking the electric buses. Looks like the weekend forecast continues to slide downhill – I could still go to that Adirondack Outdoors show but at this point I don’t know for sure. 🎣 It’s a long drive for a relatively small show. I also want to do some soldering projects and practice especially once I get hat flux pen.

In four weeks on March 5 the sun will be setting in the west (263Β°) at 5:50 pm,🌄 which is 35 minutes and 38 seconds later then tonight. Dip in Road

February 6, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Save the Pine Bush Turns 42 🦋! 1978 is a long time ago, five years before I was born. Two weeks to 5:30 PM Sunset 🌆. Freezing rain and 29 degrees at the Elm Ave Park & Ride – CDTA. ☁ With the salt the main roads in the city are fine but the side roads are pretty dicy, I mean icy. 🎲 There is a east breeze at 5 mph. 🍃. There is a inch of snow and ice on the ground. β˜ƒ ️Things will start to thaw out at around 11 am. 🌡️

I am not totally sure why I decided to take the express bus to work 🚍 because it was a pretty sloppy walk down there 🚶 but at least I gave the express driver something to do as I was the only passenger. She didn’t dilly dally around the station 🚉, she left right at 8:26. That said, the main roads are fine. I’m glad I didn’t have to crack the ice off my truck but I kind of wish I had flipped up the windshield wipers up so they wouldn’t freeze to the windshield for the weekend. Maybe when I get home.

Today will start out as rain or freezing rain, becoming all rain after 2pm. 🌧 High of 35 degrees at 2pm. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 15th. East wind 3 to 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Total daytime ice accumulation of less than a 0. 1 of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, which became light freezing rain by afternoon. The high last year was 37 degrees. The record high of 55 was set in 1991. 10.8 inches of snow fell back in 1978.❄

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:10 pm with sun having an altitude of 31.7Β° from the due south horizon (-39.2Β° vs. 6/21). Tonight will have a chance of drizzle or light rain before 8pm, then light rain with a chance of drizzle, mainly after 8pm. 🌧 Low of 34 degrees at 9pm. 17 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 3rd. North wind 3 to 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Maybe that will be a good opportunity to flip up the windshield wipers. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. In 2019, we had light rain in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 36 degrees. The record low of -18 occurred back in 1995.

Cool but sunny this weekend. 😎 Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 29. West wind around 10 mph. Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 32. Typical average high for the weekend is 33 degrees.

With the low temperatures expected Saturday night with the clear skies 🌃 I am probably not going camping as the night up north may be as cold as negative seven and they’re getting a lot of snow up north.

🌹🌻🌼Only 42 days remain until the first day of calendar spring!🌹🌻🌼

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until 5:30 PM Sunset 🌆 when the sun will be setting at 5:32 pm with dusk at 6:01 pm. God's Ray

February 5, 2020 Night

Good evening! Mostly cloudy and 28 degrees in Delmar, NY. ☁ Calm wind.Things will start to thaw out at tomorrow around 11 am. 🌑️ Not a terribly cold night and it’s going to warm up as the snow approaches.

My neighbor was out so I decided to stay home, ride the exercise bike 🚲 and catch up on the videos I downloaded over the weekend. Nothing too exciting but I really like watching those trap line videos, especially Trap Lines and Inlines channel with his tiny hunt camp and his work snaring wolf. Then I read more about Stephen Douglas in the book I’m reading πŸ“– on Almost President. I could have gone out but I get exercise on the bike and it’s not as cold inside as out. I was going to go to the library but I decided against it as it was getting late and lately it seems like the library is always a lot more crowded than in the past.

I ordered a solder flux pen βœ’ to better clean some of boards and wires I’m soldering. I’ve been having trouble getting solder to stick to the latest batch of perf board I got from China – it maybe just be really shitty but I want to see if extra flux helps.

Tonight will snow likely before 3am, then snow and sleet. 🌨 Low of 27 degrees at 11pm. 11 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 19th. Calm wind becoming east around 5 mph after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Total nighttime snow and sleet accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible. At 9 PM, the moon was in the south (170Β°) at an altitude of 71Β° from the horizon, some 237,106 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. πŸš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by August 3rd. Buckle up for safety! πŸ’Ί Fairly close by, but I but still use your safety belt as most crashes happen close to home. The Snow ❄ Moon is on Sunday, February 9. The darkest hour is at 12:10 am, followed by dawn at 6:37 am, and sun starting to rise at 7:07 am in the east-southeast (111Β°) and last for 3 minutes and 7 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 8 seconds earlier than yesterday. πŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 7:48 am with sun in the east-southeast (118Β°). Looking at the latest predictions this weekend will be quite bitterly cold with temperatures well into the negative range up north β˜€ so I think camping β›Ί is off the agenda. Plus a lot more snow than was originally predicted. We’ll before you know it winter will be over. I might not get out of town again until April. While I don’t have the late night’s with my current job I do expect things to be even busier and more difficult to get off at the end of March.

In four weeks on March 4 the sun will be setting in the west (262Β°) at 5:49 pm,πŸŒ„ which is 35 minutes and 44 seconds later then tonight. Two Much Snow

February 5, 2020 Morning

Good morning! What day is it? Day After Trump’s Final State of the Union Address or so we hope, of course. 👴 The president is such an jerk. I’m fairly conservative but I respect economists and scientists. Amazing that it took me nearly four years to figure that out but I did vote for Jill Stein. 🌎 Two weeks to February Save the Pine Dinner 🦋. Lasagna is always good. Its cloudy and dirty-dee and one third degrees as the Albany Web Blog’s Dan Van Riper would say taking the 18 bus 🚍 downtown in Delmar, NY. ☁ There is a north-northwest breeze at 9 mph. 🍃. Temperatures will drop below freezing at around 9 am. β˜ƒοΈ

The message may not move me or mean a great deal to me but it feels so groovy to say… And so goes I Dig Rock and Roll Music 🎶. I honestly don’t have to say much on this mid week. Bathroom sink is still slow so I dumped more drain solvent down it, had to spend a fair amount of time ironing my shirt 👚 and pants 👖 but that’s pretty common on dress up days. People say that I look so much nicer when I’m dressed up. That’s probably true. Lately it seems like the 8:10 bus is quite crowded, I don’t remember it being so busy weeks ago.

Today will be partly sunny 🌞, with a high of 37 degrees at 12pm. Five degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 23rd. Northwest wind 6 to 9 mph. I’ll believe it if I see sun when I emerge from the dungeon at lunch time. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 57 degrees. The record high of 59 was set in 1890. 10.4 inches of snow fell back in 2014.❄

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:10 pm with sun having an altitude of 31.4Β° from the due south horizon (-39.5Β° vs. 6/21). Cool but now sunny based on the latest forecast. 😎 Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 27. Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 34. Typical average high for the weekend is 33 degrees.

While it’s going to be quite cold this weekend after the fresh snow I might go out to the wilderness for a night camping. β›Ί It will depend a lot on the snow depth and how windy it will be. I’m going to watch the snow over the next few days.

🌹🌻🌼Only 43 days remain until the first day of calendar spring!🌹🌻🌼

Good evening! Cloudy and 37 degrees in Delmar, NY. ☁ There is a northwest breeze at 9 mph. 🍃. There is a dusting of snow on the ground. β˜ƒ Temperatures will drop below freezing around 3 am. β˜ƒοΈ

I went over to John Wolcott house for a few hours after work 🔎and continued working on his files. 📂 It’s been well over a year, one night most weeks. Learned a lot. I’ve started to tape record the audio 🔉 to capture some of our conversations. Now to just finish up the labels 🔖.

That bus really was smoking 💨 bad this evening. 🚍 I wonder if it’s an issue with the particle trap, I didn’t see it smoking downtown when I got one but I swear I’ve seen that bus smoking before but not all of the time. I was hoping to catch a glimpse of it at the end of my walk but no such luck.

Mild evening, I went for my evening walk 🚶. Not too cold out which is nice. I listened to a bit of President’s State of the Union address before turning it off. Honestly I’m hoping it’s Trump’s final state of the union and we will have a new president giving an inauguration address next year. 📝 I think the delayed results of the democratic caucus in Iowa kind of took all of the air out of the news cycle for the president. I’m sure he will be acquitted of the removal process later this week and hopefully we’ll have a new president soon.

Tonight will be cloudy ☁, with a low of 29 degrees at 6am. 14 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 24th. Northwest wind around 10 mph. White Tail Walking Away

February 4, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Tuesday. Second gear or the week. Pay day which is good because my bank account is very empty.💸 A thousand bucks more out of it and I could be arrested for vegrancy. I am a soldier in the war on poverty. Next Tuesday is Don’t Cry over Spilled Milk Day 🥛. Milk is a renewable resource. Cloudy and 32 degrees in Bethlehem, NY. ☁ Calm wind. Ain’t no sunshine anymore. The skies will clear tomorrow around noontime.

No electric bus today. 🚍 It looks like it did the earlier 18 run this morning. I’m sure they’re moving it around to see performance with different times and drivers. Honestly they’re not much different than the other buses, maybe they ride a bit heavier over the bumps and accelerate and brake smoother. I wonder how they are on the highway? They hybrids are always much smoother on the Delaware Bypass with the regen. ⚑
