Good evening! Cloudy and 37 degrees in Delmar, NY. ☁ There is a northwest breeze at 8 mph. πŸƒ. Enjoy the mild weather now because it’s going to be cold tomorrow and Saturday. There are 2 inches of snow on the ground. β˜ƒ ️Temperatures will drop below freezing at around 11 pm. β˜ƒοΈ

I went to the library after dinner and got participated in the CDTA online focus group 🚍 that’s supposed to send me an $25 Amazon gift card for participating. It was a really odd thing, seemed legitimate but I’ll believe it when I get it. Asked questions about the bus service then asked to click which one I agreed with more. I didn’t have to give any personal information and it was only 40 minutes at the library so I saw no downside. I could sorta do other things in other tabs of the browser. πŸ’»

I also spent some time looking at the DEIS for Crossgates Maul Apartment Complex. 🌎 I don’t understand it all, seems fine to me but Save the Pine Bush thinks it’s important to fight and so do I. I avoid all local politics these days but fighting development in the Pine Bush is a personal cause of mine 🌲🌲🌲. I figure do something good for the community before I eventually leave New York for better places. Try to leave the land at least as good as I found it.

I heard that song, The Crucifixion by Phil Ochs and I had forgotten what a powerful song it truly is. 🎢 Apparently it brought tears 😭 to Robert Kennedy’s eyes πŸ‘€ when he heard it too. It still is powerful a half century later. I wish Phil Ochs had lived a much longer life, he could have done so much more for our country. Heck, I think Tom Paxton all these years later is still singing his songs.

The record high of 63 was set in 1946. 23.5 inches of snow fell back in 1914.❄

The record high of 69 degrees was set back in 2012.

As I go to bed tonight, 😴 I was thinking how fast time goes by. But things are only getting better as time goes by. By the end of the year I might be older than the average Albany County resident but there is much to look forward to. Money πŸ’΅ is growing slowly but steady at some point I’ll be able to afford my own land, an off grid property and a hobby farm. It’s still years off but not that far. I’m working hard and getting results. I can’t wait for a better tomorrow but wait I must as good things come to those who wait. Good night.

Looking ahead, 5:30 PM Sunset πŸŒ† is in 1 week, 7 PM Sunset πŸŒ† is a month away and Flower Moon πŸŒ• is in 12 weeks.

I decided I was tired 😴 so I didn’t make it to the Guilderland Planning Board. I probably could have asked Lynne for a ride there but there was no opportunity for public comment so I didn’t feel really like going this way time. I do a lot for Save the Pine Bush I don’t feel like I have to do everything.

So instead I stayed home and rode the exercise bike 🚲 for an hour and a half then went for my evening walk 🚶. Pasta and sauce for dinner, already out of veggies I need to buy more. 🍲 Read for a half hour. 📖

I decided to make macaroni and cheese again for dinner with ample broccoli. 🍲 I’m trying to cut back a bit on portions lately as I’m not as hungry and I get stuffed too early and I could use to lose weight. I saved a lot for lunch tomorrow so I won’t have to make a lunch up in the morning.

Went down to the library for a while and did some research for John Wolcott’s papers project. 📄 I’m trying to make sure that I have an accurate index 📇 and description of things. Tomorrow after work I’m going back over to his house to do more work on it.

Got home walked to Stewart’s and got moo juice. 🐮 Had a cold glass of milk or two and some frozen blueberries and corn cereal for desert. Read 📖 for a half hour more of the Almost President book. I have going to wear my Don’t Tread on Me shirt 👚 to the library but I don’t want to cause trouble. I’m almost ready for lights out. Tomorrow I have to reply back to Lynne Jackson email 📧 I keep putting off.

Got most of the things I had on my weekend done. 📖 Did a fair amount of walking 🚶 and the new flux pen I got really helps on that cheap perf board that I got and wasn’t taking solder well. I can probably get a jar of flux to refill the pen later on. With the extra flux I should try the lead free solder too. Not great day at Schodack Island State Park, kind of gray but it’s always fun being back along the river there. 🐦

Tonight will snow, mainly after 11pm. 🌨 Low of 32 degrees at 9pm. 15 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 29th. It’s cold out but not that bad without the wind. 🌕 Big ol full moon above with the icy white snow its not particularly dark out. I had a great time nice Sunday dinner with the folks, and nice hike at Holt Preserve. 🚶 Pretty with all the ice on the trees.

Towards the Valley

February 8, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Saturday. Finally the weekend! Snow squall and 25 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a west breeze at 8 mph. 🍃. The current wind chill is 5. There are 2 inches of snow on the ground. β˜ƒ ️Things will start to thaw out at tomorrow around 1 pm. 🌡️

It was sunny out earlier but now it’s sort of clouded up. ☁ Decent little snow squall but so far the roads aren’t coated. Not expecting much snow but the snow and ice is pretty frozen and icy from yesterday. I thought about going out for a walk when the sun came up as it was some deep blue skies but it was cold and I didn’t want to walk on the icy sidewalks. Ended up working on some code for the blog and sitting back with a couple cups of coffee β˜•.

I better crack the ice off my mailbox 📬if I want the solder flux pen βœ’ to be delivered so I can work on projects tomorrow. Everything is kind of icy and frozen outside although surprisingly the commute on Friday night wasn’t that bad.

Today will be mostly sunny 🌞, with a high of 26 degrees at 1pm. Seven degrees below normal. West wind 8 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 45 degrees. The record high of 52 was set in 1925. 14 inches of snow fell back in 1895.❄

Later this afternoon I’m going out to my parents house for Sunday dinner food a day earlier than normal as I’m concerned that Sunday evening will be icy. β›„ Not sure when the next storm will hit but we might get snow and of ice Sunday evening 🌃. That said, first some of the ice has to melt off Big Red 🚘 if I want to get the doors open. That’s going to require the sun to return β˜€. I brushed all the snow off I could last night but it’s still a mess.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:10 pm with sun having an altitude of 32.3Β° from the due south horizon (-38.5Β° vs. 6/21). The golden hour 🏅 starts at 4:37 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (243Β°). 📸 The sunset is in the west-southwest (250Β°) starting at 5:15 pm and lasts for 3 minutes and 5 seconds with dusk around 5:46 pm, which is one minute and 19 seconds later than yesterday. 🌇 At dusk you’ll see the Full 🌝 Moon in the east-northeast (74Β°) at an altitude of 12Β° from the horizon, 229,765 miles away. 🚀 The best time to look at the stars is after 6:21 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies 🌄 and temperatures around 22 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 9 mph. Today will have 10 hours and 15 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 32 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be partly cloudy 🌤, with a low of 8 degrees at 1am. Eight degrees below normal. Maximum wind chill around 7 at 6am; Northwest wind 5 to 7 mph becoming calm in the evening. In 2019, we had light snow in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 20 degrees. The record low of -20 occurred back in 1934.

🌹🌻🌼Only 40 days remain until the first day of calendar spring!🌹🌻🌼

One month 📅 from now will be Daylight Savings Time 🌆 when the sun will be setting at 6:54 pm with dusk at 7:22 pm (Daylight Savings Time). The average high temperature is 32 degrees, with a record high of 61 in 1895.

Towards the Valley

February 7, 2020 Night

Good evening! Snow flurries but otherwise partly clear with a bright moonlit sky on the fresh but icy snow and 21 degrees in Delmar, NY. ❄ There is a west-northwest breeze at 14 mph. 🍃 with gusts up to 29 mph 💨💨💨. The current wind chill is 8. There is a inch of snow on the ground. β˜ƒ ️Things will start to thaw out at Sunday around 2 pm. 🌡️

Definitely a cold night with the wind but I turned up the heat before I left for work today and a few more degrees when I hit home so it’s very comfortable. With the mild weather all winter the heating bills have been quite modest. I stayed home and reheated the stuff shells mom made for my birthday 🎂. I rode the exercise bike for a half hour and then read 📖 more of that Almost President book. I played around with some code from the CDTA jquery stream but I doubt I’ll do much with it as I’ve run into a lot of cross origin issues with the browser and caching and fetching the data with my web hosting would be slow. Plus the CDTA website with the realtime map works well enough for me and I’m not that interested in sitting down and spending much more time coding it. 💻 I don’t like computer programming and writing software and scripts as much as I once did.

Tonight will have a slight chance of snow showers before 11pm. Areas of blowing snow before 11pm. Mostly cloudy 🌧, with a low of 16 degrees at 6am. Typical for tonight. Maximum wind chill around 5 at 6am; West wind 9 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2019, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 25 degrees. The record low of -16 occurred back in 1950.

Tonight will have a close to Full 🌝 Moon with 98% illuminated. Looks so bright out with the icy snow everywhere. At 10 PM, the moon was in the southeast (140Β°) at an altitude of 65Β° from the horizon, some 231,587 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. 🚀 At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by August 1st. It’s actually quite close relatively speaking but still – Buckle up for safety! 💺The moon is almost as high overhead tonight as the late summer sun. The Snow ❄ Moon is on Sunday, February 9. The darkest hour is at 12:10 am, followed by dawn at 6:35 am, and sun starting to rise at 7:04 am in the east-southeast (111Β°) and last for 3 minutes and 6 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 12 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌄 The golden hour ends at 7:45 am with sun in the east-southeast (118Β°). Tonight will have 13 hours and 45 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 32 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny 🌞, with a high of 25 degrees at 1pm. Eight degrees below normal. West wind 8 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. That wind is going to make it feel frigid and it will only get colder as night falls tomorrow. We’ll we were overdue for some cold. Winter lately has been coming late. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 45 degrees. The record high of 52 was set in 1925. 14 inches of snow fell back in 1895.❄

Not totally sure what the plans are for tomorrow. I have a did sweep the snow off Big Red but she’s covered with ice from the change over. I’m hoping the sun will quickly melt the ice in the morning. β˜€ I might still go to Johnstown for the outdoors show but that’s a long trip for a relatively small little show especially if it’s too cold and windy to go skiing or camping there after. I’d almost rather stay home and save the gas if it’s frigid. Might also go out to the folks house tomorrow rather than Sunday as I’m concerned about snow on Sunday evening again.

In four weeks on March 6 the sun will be setting in the west (263Β°) at 5:51 pm,🌄 which is 35 minutes and 31 seconds later then tonight. As the first day of spring approaches the sun becomes close to due west for the sunset. In 2019 on that day, we had cold, mostly sunny, snow showers and temperatures between 22 and 9 degrees. I wonder if our March this year will be so cold. Typically, you have temperatures between 40 and 22 degrees. The record high of 63 degrees was set back in 1974.
