March 29, 2023 Morning

Made it to the middle of the week. ๐Ÿซ

Day by day we are very to the weekend and April 1st. It’s going to be warmer out soon, including today and the mornings are getting brighter.

Good morning on this the final Hump Day of March. Partly clear and 26 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒ… Calm wind. Things will start to thaw out at around 8 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

Started out cold but expected to warm quickly today. ๐Ÿธ I heard the spring peepers for the first time locally last night. Others said they’ve been out for a few days. Not really loud yet, it’s early in the season. Out for the morning walk ๐Ÿšถ not as dark as recent days with clear conditions this morning.

Today will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 55 degrees at 4pm. Four degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 6th. Light and variable wind becoming south 5 to 10 mph in the morning. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 37 degrees. The record high of 85 was set in 1946. 5.6 inches of snow fell back in 1984.โ„

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 1:01 pm with sun having an altitude of 50.7ยฐ from the due south horizon (-20.1ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 4.9 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 6:41 pm with the sun in the west (269ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west (275ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:18 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 54 seconds with dusk around 7:45 pm, which is one minute and 9 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Gibbous ๐ŸŒ” Moon in the south (176ยฐ) at an altitude of 74ยฐ from the horizon, 251,242 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:20 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 49 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 11 mph. Tomorrow will have 12 hours and 40 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 54 seconds over today.

Got out of work at five 5โƒฃ and caught the express bus ๐Ÿš home which actually had the in service sign on. Same bad driver, I swear he was chatting with passengers ๐Ÿ‘ฅ more than driving, swerving through traffic on 32. I guess it’s the end of his shift, he was tired. Walked 7 1/2 miles which these days is my effective weekday goal. ๐Ÿฅ… Kind of a chilly evening ๐ŸŒƒ though I sat out back for a while before retiring to bed ๐Ÿ› a little before nine.

Tonight will rain and have some snow showers, becoming all snow after midnight. Some thunder is also possible. ๐ŸŒง Low of 24 degrees at 6am. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 10th. Breezy, with a south wind 11 to 16 mph becoming west 19 to 24 mph in the evening. Winds could gust as high as 38 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 20 degrees. The record low of 7 occurred back in 1970.

Been researching doctors ๐Ÿง‘โ€โš•๏ธ to get my yearly physical now that I’m forty and undertaking my walk program. I am going to call today and see if I can make an appointment for after Easter to mid April. It’s not a rush but I want to get checked out before I do my thirty mile walk ๐Ÿ‘ฃ this spring.

Trout opener still looks mild but wet. ๐ŸŽฃ Saturday, rain before 2pm, then showers likely after 2pm. High near 67. Breezy. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Maximum dew point of 53 at 11am. Sunday, sunny, with a high near 46. Breezy. Typical average high for the weekend is 52 degrees.

I’ve been thinking where to hike on Saturday if I want to do twenty miles. ๐Ÿšถ I thought about Thacher Park but I don’t relish climbing the New Salem Hill or all those miles on busy highways hiking. I’m thinking instead to hike to Hollyhock Sanctuary in South Bethlehem and if I’m up to it then Blodgett Hill.

Looking ahead, there are 6 weeks until Average High is 70 ๐Ÿฎ when the sun will be setting at 8:06 pm with dusk at 8:36 pm. On that day in 2022, we had sunny and temperatures between 77 and 39 degrees. We hit a record high of 92 back in 1970.

March 28, 2023 Morning

Good morning! Happy Tuesday. โ˜๏ธ

It’s official the normal high is 50 and will be above that until November. It’s more clear then ever that the heat is done until then. Now just the wait until the green up, the drying of the mud and the black flies.

Cloudy, dark and 38 degrees in Delmar for the morning walk. โ˜๏ธ There is a north-northwest breeze at 7 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The rain is done and more sun is expected late.

The heavy rain โ˜” held off until late and got my 7 1/2 miles of walking ๐Ÿšถ in for the day yesterday which was good. I woke up early – that is 4:30 and then fell asleep until 6 when I started my walk. I can wait until it’s a bit warmer and I can sleep with my windows open. That said, I really need a night in the wilderness with a rip roaring fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ to sleep well.

Today will have a slight chance of showers before 8am. Mostly cloudy โ›… with more sun late ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 48 degrees at 4pm. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 24th. North wind 7 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 27 degrees. I thought Monday was a good day โ˜บ, getting out at five with the crappy bus driver not driving so I caught the express ๐Ÿšwhich was running a bit late but not a big deal. I bought some kale to add some more fiber to my diet which is good. Maybe I’ll use it with the eggs ๐Ÿฅš this morning. I got eggs and milk ๐Ÿฅ› last night after walking for breakfast. I was in bed around eight ๐Ÿ› and asleep before nine 9โƒฃ.

The sunset is in the west (275ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:17 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 54 seconds with dusk around 7:44 pm, which is one minute and 9 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the First Quarter ๐ŸŒ“ Moon in the south-southwest (214ยฐ) at an altitude of 73ยฐ from the horizon, 249,785 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:18 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 44 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 9 mph. March 27, 2023 Morning

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. The final Monday of March as they say, although I could totally see the legislature suspending the clock ๐Ÿ•’to get a few more days out of March and the fiscal year.

Mostly clear ๐ŸŒ„ and 30 degrees in Delmar, NY. Calm wind. A bit chilly to start out the morning but it will warm up quickly as we are in the end of March. ๐ŸŒก๏ธIt’s nice how the mornings once again have more light and I can walk at 6 or 6:15 am in the morning before breakfast ๐Ÿฅฃ. Truth is it works so much better for my mornings.

Today will rain likely, mainly after 5pm. Increasing clouds ๐ŸŒž๐Ÿ‘‰๐ŸŒฆ๏ธ, with a high of 51 degrees at 1pm. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 29th. Light and variable wind becoming northeast around 6 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. Better pack my umbrella โ˜”. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning, which became light snow by afternoon. The high last year was 41 degrees. In 2022, we had light snow in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 18 degrees. The record low of 3 occurred back in 1923.

Good morning! Happy Sunday. โ˜บ

Smile, it’s going to be a nice day and not a work day for once. Walked 65.3 miles last week, doing my best to continue that record this week.

Mostly cloudy and 39 degrees in Delmar as I walk down to Norman’s Kills Falls. โ›… There is a southwest breeze at 10 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. A bit chilly and damp this morning but it will improve later on.

I was impressed that I walked 65.3 miles last week and I’m at mile 200 for the month. ๐Ÿšถ It feels good as is quiting processed foods and processed sugars. The worse thing is reducing the pushers that keep trying to push the crap down your throat. Now I finally understand what the DARE program was about, resisting that crap friends and families try to ram down your throat. ๐Ÿ‘ It’s only doughnuts ๐Ÿฉ, what’s wrong with shooting a little heroin, I mean sugar once and a while.

Today will be partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 53 degrees at 3pm. Four degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 2nd. West wind 10 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning, which became light rain by afternoon. The high last year was 50 degrees. The record high of 75 was set in 2021. 6.1 inches of snow fell back in 1899.โ„

While I was hoping to hike the rail trail ๐Ÿš‚ without getting runover by yuppies ๐Ÿƒ I knew that was unlikely. It will be a complete orgy of yuppie shit later on but I hope to be off the trail by then and eating either lunch or hiking Bennett Hill by then.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 1:02 pm with sun having an altitude of 49.5ยฐ from the due south horizon (-21.3ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 5.1 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 6:37 pm with the sun in the west (268ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ

The sunset is in the west (274ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:14 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 54 seconds with dusk around 7:42 pm, which is one minute and 8 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the First Quarter ๐ŸŒ“ Moon in the west-southwest (250ยฐ) at an altitude of 56ยฐ from the horizon, 245,341 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:16 pm. Towards Rensselaer County

March 24, 2023 Morning

Good morning! Yeah, it’s Friday! Did it ever seem like we would make it here this week? This week bucked at times like the engine on the bus on the old I 787 in traffic but much like Friday, it made it to the destination.

Mostly cloudy, rather dark and 35 degrees at the for the morning walk in Delmar. โ˜ There is a northwest breeze at 14 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 2 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ Then again it’s 6:15 after the time change, though we are seeing some as the walk continues.

Not so cold this morning but the wind makes it a bit cool. ๐Ÿ’จ The deer ๐ŸฆŒ are grazing on the well manured farm field ๐Ÿฎ while a turkey vulture flies overhead and the sky to the east is a beat red. I was up before six and I finished off the last of the oatmeal ๐Ÿฅฃ.

Today will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a high of 47 degrees at 5pm. One degree below normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 21st. Just hearing that is a reminder that spring is coming soon. Northwest wind 10 to 14 mph. A year ago, we had light drizzle in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. The high last year was 46 degrees. The record high of 69 was set in 1976. 5.5 inches of snow fell back in 1956.โ„

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 1:03 pm with sun having an altitude of 48.7ยฐ from the due south horizon (-22.1ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 5.3 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer.

The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 6:35 pm with the sun in the west (267ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west (273ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:12 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 54 seconds with dusk around 7:39 pm, which is one minute and 9 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon in the west (262ยฐ) at an altitude of 34ยฐ from the horizon, 239,655 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:13 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 43 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 8 mph. Tomorrow will have 12 hours and 26 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 54 seconds over today.

I wasn’t sure but I managed to get out walking ๐Ÿšถ down to the town park ๐Ÿž right after work and did a few laps around the Nature Trail ๐Ÿธ before it got dark and started to drizzle. I had a small container of pasta with lots of vegetables, which has more sugar then I would like but I had previously bought, froze and didn’t want to go to waste by eating in moderation. ๐Ÿฅง

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 31 degrees at 5am. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 30th. North wind around 7 mph. In 2022, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 39 degrees. The record low of 0 occurred back in 1875.

Tomorrow will have a chance of snow before 9am, then a chance of rain and snow between 9am and 11am, then rain after 11am. ๐ŸŒง High of 38 degrees at 4pm. 11 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 24th. A year ago, we had light drizzle in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. The high last year was 57 degrees. The record high of 74 was set in 1910. 1.9 inches of snow fell back in 1960.โ„

Tomorrow I think I will get up early or at least at the normal time ๐Ÿšถ and walk before the snow and rain comes. Maybe even do Five Rivers though Sunday sounds like a better day for doing that. I was hoping to get out of town this weekend but I didn’t think that was possible with the weather. It’s fine, I have some library books ๐Ÿ“š to finish up that are due back and I’ll probably end up working Saturday morning. I could do it remote but at home is easier.

Looking ahead to Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 50. โ˜€ Breezy, with a west wind 15 to 22 mph, with gusts as high as 33 mph. Typical average high for the weekend is 49 degrees.

Sunday sounds like the better day of the weekend โ˜บ though that wind of will make it feel colder than the mercury actually says. But I’ll probably hike Bennett Hill and go out and see the folks in the afternoon.

Looking ahead, there are 2 weeks until 7:30 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ‡ when the sun will be setting at 7:30 pm with dusk at 7:56 pm. On that day in 2022, we had rain and temperatures between 51 and 45 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 55 degrees. We hit a record high of 87 back in 2010.

One Mile to Fire Tower

March 23, 2023 Morning

Good morning! Happy Thursday. Clouds and 46 degrees for the morning walk here in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒฅ There is a south-southeast breeze at 9 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Rsin maybe later or maybe not.

Oatmeal ๐Ÿฅฃ for breakfast and now out for the morning walk ๐Ÿšถ listening to that John Prine record. ๐Ÿ’ฟ Dark morning with rain pushing in โ˜” or maybe not. I still think there is a good chance I’ll get my steps ๐Ÿ‘ฃ in for the day. Warm enough this morning the joggers are out ๐Ÿƒ and the birds are singing. ๐Ÿฆ Looks like Saturday it might dip below freezing early but I’m not likely to need my heat until October or maybe November at this point.

Today will have showers likely, mainly between 2pm and 3pm. Cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 58 degrees at 5pm. 10 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 12th. Maximum dew point of 49 at 3pm. South wind 8 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 47 degrees. The record high of 80 was set in 1938. 6.1 inches of snow fell back in 2020.โ„

It was nice yesterday to have the windows open ๐Ÿ”ฒ while I was at work to let the fresh air in though I closed them before bed ๐Ÿ› as it cooled down. That said warmer days aren’t far away. Once it warms up a bit more I might stop wearing the muzzle so much but the other day after I got on the elevator a Republican hopped on and was coughing and sounded quite sick. ๐Ÿ˜ท I’m sure he probably wasn’t vaccinated and at this point my COVID-19 booster is probably wearing down. But I figure with the warmer weather the risk of colds and the COVID-19 drop way down plus my muzzles are getting worn out and I’m sure I’ll want them come the autumn.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 1:03 pm with sun having an altitude of 48.3° from the due south horizon (-22.5° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 5.3 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 6:34 pm with the sun in the west (266°). ๐Ÿ“ธ

The sunset is in the west (272°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:11 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 54 seconds with dusk around 7:38 pm, which is one minute and 10 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon in the west (266°) at an altitude of 22° from the horizon, 236,707 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:12 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 54 degrees. The dew point will be 49 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 14 mph. Today will have 12 hours and 23 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 54 seconds over yesterday.

Got down to the park ๐Ÿž after a quick dinner finishing off the remaining brown rice ๐Ÿš lentils and carrots ๐Ÿฅ• I had made up. It was early enough I was able add some extra steps by walking ๐Ÿšถ a few laps of the nature trail before it was getting dark and time to go home. In bed at 8 which is good because I woke up during the night for a while. ๐Ÿ› I really need a night or two in the wilderness with a rip roaring fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ to restore my sleep.

Tonight will have a chance of showers, mainly before 9pm. Cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 35 degrees at 6am. Six degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 10th. Northwest wind 15 to 17 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2022, we had light rain in the evening, which became light drizzle by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 36 degrees. The record low of 0 occurred back in 1875.

I’ve been debugging the new style sheet with the blog, ๐Ÿ“ which the responsive design mode hasn’t been perfect on all displays. That said, I think I’ve mostly worked out the major bugs. One of the issues I’ve had with is caching of the styles which cause a mix of the old and new to display, but I figured out a way to force the browsers to refresh it every time I change stylesheet by including the version number in the fetch for the style sheet.

Saturday still looks rainy โ˜”. Saturday, rain showers and snow showers, possibly mixed with sleet, becoming all rain after 2pm. High near 41. Southeast wind 6 to 11 mph increasing to 12 to 17 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. Going to make the Saturday walk fun. Wear the rain coat I guess. Better Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 49. โ˜€ Typical average high for the weekend is 49 degrees.

Looking ahead, there are 5 weeks until Arbor Day ๐ŸŒณ when the sun will be setting at 7:52 pm with dusk at 8:20 pm. On that day in 2022, we had mostly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 51 and 39 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 65 degrees. We hit a record high of 91 back in 1962.

I am alone, but the woods is full of sounds of birds, geese, rumble of airlines and trucks and traffic

March 22, 2023 Morning

Good morning! What day is it? With a clunk I’ll drop it into third gear and be on my way this Wednesday. Mostly cloudy and 33 degrees in Delmar for the morning walk. โ˜ Calm wind. The skies will clear around noontime.

With the clouds some bright red skies. ๐ŸŒ… Not so cold, I debated wearing the winter coat versus the vest. The winter coat won out but it’s a bit warm. My heat is off inside. Didn’t need the heated blanket last night, maybe it’s after seeing my electric bill earlier in the week. Reheat of the apple ๐Ÿ pancakes topped with mixed berries ๐Ÿฅž this morning.

So far the week has been going by quickly but maybe because it ordinary ๐Ÿข and well planned. I’m fine with that as I’m ready for spring time and the green up ๐ŸŒท which is probably like a month away.

Today will be cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny โ˜๐Ÿ‘‰โ˜€ , with a high of 59 degrees at 3pm. 11 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 14th. Spring continues for a few more days before winter comes for the weekend. Light and variable wind becoming south 5 to 10 mph in the afternoon. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 53 degrees. The record high of 81 was set in 2012. 7 inches of snow fell back in 1887.โ„

Yesterday I got down to the park ๐Ÿž for a while and walked the Nature Trail and sat for a bit but not long as it got dark quickly. But it’s still March and that’s to be expected. They hardened the trails last summer with road crumb which makes for better walking in mud season. ๐Ÿ‘ข

Had to add some additional holes to my belt last night with a drill because it was getting loose. I think it stretched and I’ve lost some weight as my collars in my dress shirts seem looser too. Brown rice, lentils and tofu with lots of chilli ๐ŸŒถ powder and garlic for dinner, my breath was garlicly by evening, no vampires ๐Ÿง›โ€โ™‚๏ธ near me. I wish I had eaten more fruit ๐Ÿ with dinner though as by the evening I was feeling like my blood sugar was very low.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 1:03 pm with sun having an altitude of 48ยฐ from the due south horizon (-22.9ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 5.4 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 6:33 pm with the sun in the west (265ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ

Updated the blog theme with some new colors ๐ŸŽจ with spring coming. Broke some things with the mobile ๐Ÿ“ฑ version though I need to fix. The colors make it easier to pick out individual sections of the blog. I also fixed the aspect ratio on selected maps and videos and re-enabled photo titles. I’m trying to reduce clutter ๐Ÿงน while not hiding important information.
