After a cloudy start the sun is out โ›… ๐Ÿ‘‰ โ˜€

Starting to finally get nice out this morning. Going to be a beautiful day.

Good morning! Happy Sunday from Vacationland 2023. Partly sunny and 60 degrees at the Finger Lakes National Forest. There is a north-northwest breeze at 8 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 57 degrees. Much cooler than before the front came through.

Woke up pretty early this morning, thinking that it would be a nice morning ๐ŸŒ… and I could get up, use the bucket shitter ๐Ÿšฝ and they have coffee โ˜•. I even thought ๐Ÿ’ญ about taking a ride over to Searsburg Road and watching the sun rise. They promised it would be a beautiful day, and it probably will be but it didn’t clear out by nine o’clock last night as promised by the weathermen. โ˜๏ธ I looked to the sky this morning and all I saw was clouds. Maybe I should have pooped ๐Ÿ’ฉ and gone back to bed but instead it was apple banana pancakes ๐Ÿฅž using the remainder of the pancake mix I bought last winter mixed with whole oatmeal, fried apples and mashed bananas. Through
In chia seeds ๐ŸŒฑ for an extra health punch ๐Ÿ‘Š.

Going forward I won’t buy any more pancake mix but instead use that whole grain oatmeal with water and bananas. ๐Ÿฅž I like the hardy more fiber rich oatmeal over the bleached flour, sugar and chemicals of Aunt Jamina’s pancake mix. Less garbage and cost too by using just simple oatmeal and bananas. Really don’t need to waste money ๐Ÿ’ต on packaging to burn. Likewise I’m using real silverware and dishes now while camping as paper plates, and plastic silverware have gotten so expensive with inflation plus who wants to burn all that toxic plastic trash? ๐Ÿ—‘

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 71 degrees at 3pm. 13 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 24th. Maximum dew point of 57 at 8am. Northwest wind around 9 mph. A year ago, we had cloudy skies. The high last year was 82 degrees. The record high of 100 was set in 1933. Cool but getting sunny for sure.

Today I have a busy agenda planned. ๐Ÿ“œ But it’s going to be a great one. I plan to get a fairly early start, bike most of the Cayuta Valley Rail Trail. ๐Ÿšฒ Then swim at the Watkins Glen Pool, get ice cream at Glen Dairy Bar ๐Ÿฆ, ride along Rock Cabin Road, watch the sunset ๐ŸŒ‡ on Seneca Lake. Then back to camp for some hammock time before bed. Greased my chain ๐Ÿ”— up well on my bike this morning, cleaned off the mud, and set up the GoPro mount on my bike ๐Ÿ“ธ so I can do some video today riding for the blog and YouTube and other social media. ๐Ÿ“น

Despite a fairly soggy day yesterday, ๐ŸŒง๏ธ I’ve been feeling great without the alcohol and calories ๐Ÿคฐ of years past, choosing healthier nutrient dense meals ๐Ÿด and whole fruits and vegetables ๐Ÿซ‘up here at camp. โ›บ A healthy diet I believe really does improve ones mental health. โ˜บ While I’m not one to blame the chemicals in processed foods – most of them are relative safe, ๐Ÿงชโš—๏ธ most of them mask crap ingredients that are rich in low quality fats and sugars while providing not much vitamins, fiber or protein. Plus being skinner I feel great though I certainly have been stuffing myself this weekend ๐Ÿ‘ but with higher quality whole foods.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 1:14 pm with sun having an altitude of 66ยฐ from the due south horizon (-4.7ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.7 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:51 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (290ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (297ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:31 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 14 seconds with dusk around 9:02 pm, which is one minute and 5 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Full ๐ŸŒ Moon in the southeast (146ยฐ) at an altitude of 11ยฐ from the horizon, 228,672 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:43 pm. At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 64 degrees. The dew point will be 53 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 35 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 6 seconds over yesterday.

Yesterday became a wet day, though later then expected. Rochester got the rain early, we got it later in the Finger Lakes. ๐ŸŒง๏ธ Breakfast was eggs with tomatoes, onions and peppers with a side of old breakfast sausage I bought last winter. Rode Blackie ๐Ÿšต to the top of Hector Backbone though I admit I dismounted and pushed the bicycle part of the way. I had lower gears โš™ to drop it down to but I wasn’t feeling motivated. At the top by Blueberry Hill Campground ๐Ÿซ it started to rain – it was already one o’clock before that happened. More of a passing shower, waited waited it out under a tree. ๐ŸŒณ Rode around the campground, the fee is now up to $15 a night though I can’t imagine camping so packed in with others. I like my fires ๐Ÿ”ฅ and music ๐ŸŽถ, I would be a nuisance if I had to camp around others. ๐Ÿคซ

Tried to get good cell service up there ๐Ÿ“ถ without much luck. A few bars but it was slow, possibly due to the weather. โ›ˆ Rode down the backbone to Potomac Road, much more fun going down then over to Potomac Ponds which I started back, started slinging mud ๐Ÿฝ and decided to turn back when the trail got too muddy. I rode down old Chicken Co-op Road as my GPS calls it ๐Ÿ—บ and the sky just opened up. โ›ˆ๏ธ I wanted to see my favorite old campsite and see how the mud wallow was holding up after all the stone I dumped in it last year. Still quite muddy. Glad I got the site I like on Potomac instead. I headed back to camp, I didn’t mind being soaked as it was still quite warm. ๐Ÿง… Fried up another delicious ๐Ÿ˜‹ Vadella onion on the griddle – sliced it into rings, put it on a cast iron skillet and added a little MSG to really make it pop. Dessert was red kidney beans with some maple syrup ๐Ÿ and a beer ๐Ÿป. Had two beers yesterday between lunch and dinner which is my limit though the first day I had one and maybe none today.

As the front came through the rain picked up and the temperature dropped. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ I read for a while ๐Ÿ“– and listened to a podcast ๐Ÿ“ป from Focus on Albany with Cynthia Pooler interviewing Leon Van Dyke. Interesting history about how the Democratic ๐Ÿด machine worked and the $5 votes ๐Ÿ—ณ and the fear people had about ever speaking up about the machine. Found out John Wolcott is returning home Monday for hospice care, ๐Ÿง‘โ€โš•๏ธ but he’s still pretty much in his final hours, hope to visit him at least one more time when I get back from vacation. Had some great interviews with John Wolcott and Leon Van Dyke over the years though I wish we had started years earlier ๐ŸŽค before John lost much of his memory and became so frail after getting bit by a tick and collapsing one day in his bathtub ๐Ÿ›. Tick born illnesses are no joke. ๐Ÿœ

After a while with the wind and the rain โ˜” I started to get chilled through at camp and decided I needed to take off my wet clothes. ๐Ÿ‘š I got jeans and a hoodie on, bedded down in my truck with the remainder of the Boggleheads investing book ๐Ÿ“™ which I finally finished off before putting on a different podcast about the history of Mad Magazine before nodding off. ๐Ÿคก Got some shut eye ๐Ÿ‘๏ธ for a few hours before dinner time.

Dinner was more salmon ๐Ÿ  with delicious pearl onions, mini red potato ๐Ÿฅ” , sweet corn and fried slices of tomato ๐Ÿ… – the second half of the big juicy one I got at the farm stand. I still have a full tomato left, it’s like heaven. Eating good. Rode up to Searsburg Road ๐Ÿšฒ hoping to catch the sunset but it was still gray last night but I do have good reception ๐Ÿ“ถ there. Maybe tonight though I think I’ll watch the sunset tonight from Seneca Lake ๐ŸŒ‡. Decided I wanted to get some more miles in before bed ๐Ÿ› after a fairly lazy day ๐Ÿ˜ด so around dusk started over to Foster Pond on the bicycle but turned back as drizzle started. ๐Ÿ”™ Had a small campfire ๐Ÿ”ฅ at warm myself and retired to bed around ten ๐Ÿ”Ÿ. Early by vacation standards when it’s not really dark out until around nine.

Tonight will have increasing clouds โ˜, with a low of 56 degrees at 5am. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 6th. Maximum dew point of 54 at 6pm. Northwest wind around 6 mph becoming southwest in the evening. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 60 degrees. The record low of 49 occurred back in 2021.

One month ๐Ÿ“… from now will the Average High Falls To 79 ๏ธDegrees โ›ฑ๏ธ๏ธ๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 7:47 pm with dusk at 8:14 pm. As they say, all good things must come to an end, autumn leaves must fall. But first, summer vacation! ๐Ÿ–

Mud Lock In Cayuga Lake

Back to work for three more days assuming that the local bus arrives ๐Ÿš

It’s running late but so am I. Some of it is my fault, I didn’t get a real early start and I rode my bike to the store first for groceries. I needed more fresh fruit for the coming week and more rice and beans so I could cook prior to vacation.

Good morning! Happy Tuesday. Partly sunny and 71 degrees at the Elsmere. NY. Calm wind. The dew point is 67 degrees. The muggy weather ends Sunday around 2 am. ๐Ÿ˜“

I tell you I might have been better riding Blackie to work rather then catching the bus, ๐ŸšŒ seeing how late it’s running today. But I decided to go to the store, stock up my pantry ๐Ÿ‘ ๐Ÿ ๐ŸŒ with lots of fruit and veggies ๐ŸŒถ ๐Ÿซ‘ ๐Ÿ„ and also rice and beans. ๐Ÿš I soaked black beans and will cook them tonight, followed by red beans tomorrow so I can bring them out on vacation. Vacation starts on Friday. ๐ŸŠ‍โ™€๏ธ

Today will have a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 3pm. Partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 86 degrees at 4pm. Two degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 68 at 10am. West wind 3 to 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 88 degrees. The record high of 97 was set in 1963.

I am going to build an updated list of everything I need to pack ๐ŸŽ’ as it seems like my packing list has gotten very out of date in recent years and it means I sometimes forget things, especially as my equipment and tastes have changed for camping.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 1:02 pm with sun having an altitude of 67.1° from the due south horizon (-3.8° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.5 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:44 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (291°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (298°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:24 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 16 seconds with dusk around 8:56 pm, which is 57 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the First Quarter ๐ŸŒ“ Moon in the southwest (214°) at an altitude of 26° from the horizon, 241,681 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:38 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 74 degrees. The dew point will be 67 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 46 minutes of daytime, a decrease of one minute and 55 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight I am going to a public hearing about yet another development in the Albany Pine Bush ๐ŸŒฒ ๐ŸŒฒ ๐Ÿฆ‹ with the hope of getting home early enough to pack some of my clothes tonight ๐Ÿ’ผ and maybe go through one of the supply boxes in my truck to get it organized. Tomorrow, I want to do bulk of my packing, as Thursday I need to run to the store for rope and a few more miscelleanous things, and the more I do early and double check the less โœ… I think I’ll be likely to forget.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 63 degrees at 6am. Typical for tonight. Maximum dew point of 67 at 6pm. South wind around 6 mph becoming calm after midnight. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 61 degrees. The record low of 46 occurred back in 1976.

On this day in 1965, Bob Dylan goes electric as he plugs in at the Newport Folk Festival, signaling a major change in folk and rock music. ๐ŸŽธThe crowds boo and his. Not very respectful. In 1993, The Saint James Church massacre occurs in Kenilworth, Cape Town, South Africa. Liberals use it as an excuse to take away people’s gun rights in Australia, ๐Ÿ”ซ which weren’t protected by an active gun culture or second admendment like in America.

A summer weekend ahead, going to be hot especially Friday through Sunday. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ Saturday, a chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 87. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Maximum dew point of 69 at 10am. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 80. Maximum dew point of 58 at 7am. Typical average high for the weekend is 84 degrees.

Looking ahead, next Tuesday is August ๐ŸŒป when the sun will be setting at 8:17 pm with dusk at 8:47 pm. On that day in 2022, we had hot, partly sunny and temperatures between 89 and 69 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 84 degrees. We hit a record high of 101 back in 1933.

Entering Cedar River Flow Camping Area

Another drizzly weekend Sunday funday ๐ŸŒฆ๏ธ

Almost bought a bike yesterday. So close but I wanted to think about it more before laying down my six hundred bucks. I’ve been milling it over all evening and day but I won’t be able to get it until at least Wednesday and only if I leave work early. Other than that it’s been a slow day as I stayed up much too late last night, sleeped in and was playing with data as it poured all morning. Getting my steps in now in case it pours this evening or is so humid like last night.

Good afternoon! Rain showers are a falling in Delmar and I’m finally out walking. ๐ŸŒง๏ธ There is a north breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 68 degrees. The skies will clear tomorrow around 7 pm.

It’s rained and poured for a while this morning. ๐Ÿ’ฆ Super wet, despite being a summer four day weekend away from work it would not have not been a good one for camping. But it fine, I think I’m getting closer to getting a bicycle ๐Ÿšฒ and I’m enjoying the quiet, spending some time reading and learning new ways to wrangle data. When it’s not raining the heat and humidity is oppressive but it’s fine we need the rain.

This afternoon will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 75 degrees at 5pm. Eight degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 31st. Maximum dew point of 70 at 2pm. Northwest wind 3 to 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 87 degrees. The record high of 98 was set in 1966.

I guess it’s good that I decided to stay in town this weekend. ๐Ÿก Today was so wet this morning and more rain is expected this evening. I figure get my steps in now ๐Ÿ‘ฃ and then I will read ๐Ÿ“– some of the books ๐Ÿ“š I got out of the library this evening. Tomorrow isn’t expected to be quite so wet, might be a good day to walk ๐Ÿšถ out to Five Rivers. I think the library is open tomorrow so I could go down to the library and use my laptop down there. That said, these days I can do virtually everything with my phone ๐Ÿ“ฑ.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 1:00 pm with sun having an altitude of 70.4ยฐ from the due south horizon (-0.4ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.1 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:55 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (296ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (303ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:38 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 27 seconds with dusk around 9:11 pm, which is 10 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Full ๐ŸŒ Moon in the southeast (137ยฐ) at an altitude of 5ยฐ from the horizon, 229,475 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:57 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and thunderstorms ๐ŸŒฉ and temperatures around 72 degrees. The dew point will be 70 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 15 hours and 18 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 42 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 67 degrees at 5am. Five degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 70 at 6pm. Light northeast wind. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 59 degrees. The record low of 44 occurred back in 1978.

That’s a lot of rain their expecting tonight. ๐Ÿ’ง I am glad I didn’t decide to be out camping ๐Ÿ•. Maybe next week. Even yesterday with the heat, humidity and wildfire smoke wasn’t that great, though at least I got groceries ๐Ÿ›’ and sparklers ๐ŸŽ‡ to use for a future trip up north. Yesterday I walked 5 1/4 miles mostly because it was so damn humid come the evening and decided against my evening walk ๐Ÿšถ.

On this day in 1962, The first Wal-Mart store opens for business in Rogers, Arkansas. ๐Ÿช How would we all survive without that? I guess more K Mart and going to the grocery store and paying a bunch more. Two years later, President Johnson would sign the Civil Rights Act of 1964 into law on the same day. ๐Ÿค๐Ÿพ

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Last Sunset After 8:30 PM ๐ŸŒ† when the sun will be setting at 8:32 pm with dusk at 9:04 pm. On that day in 2022, we had hot, mostly sunny and temperatures between 88 and 60 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 84 degrees. We hit a record high of 97 back in 1900.

 Paddling Along

The first Friday in June 2023

Technically it’s a day too early to be listening to that song about Billy Jo McAllister but on the other side it feels such an appropriate song. Seems like so many so many conversations. I’m just looking forward to being able to wear daisies in my hair. ๐ŸŒผ

Good morning! Yeah, it’s Friday! Sunny and 64 degrees at the for the morning walk in Delmar. ๐ŸŒž There is a north-northwest breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 57 degrees. ๐Ÿฎ The air tastes like grain and hay.

Last night wasn’t that warm ๐Ÿ˜ฐ though after getting my steps ๐Ÿ‘ฃ in and doing some leg and arm crunches I was feeling sweaty. ๐Ÿ’ช

I think I’m going to do eggs ๐Ÿฅš, spinach and beans for breakfast ๐Ÿณ this morning. I have that lunch today at work but first I want to make sure I have a stomach full of fiber so I limit how much of that inevitably high calorie restaurant food. Also trying to get in as many steps ๐Ÿ‘ฃ as possible in the morning in case this evening is very wet. I’m somewhat disappointed that I won’t be getting out of town this weekend.

Today will have scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 1pm. Sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 88 degrees at 1pm. 12 degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 60 at 9am. North wind 5 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 78 degrees. The record high of 94 was set in 1895.

Going to be another ol hot summer day, ๐Ÿ– this day with a bit more humidity but still hardly oppressive. Right it’s super nice. Too bad it’s going to turn to rain and much cooler come this evening ๐ŸŒƒ into the weekend. I guess enjoy it while you still can thought it will be back for the work week from hell but then they’ll be gone for the summer. ๐Ÿ‘ฟ My thoughts are totally on the Potholers which I’ll be at in two weeks, God willing for the Juneteenth Weekend, which is my favorite holiday of the year.

I was hoping to walk down to the Park and Ride ๐Ÿšbut breakfast took longer than expected ๐Ÿ—ก with all the chopping and then it seemed like the eggs weren’t cooked enough ๐Ÿณ so I had to put them back in broiler a bit longer. I did double check โ˜‘ to make sure the oven is off before heading out. Ultimately I walked halfway to the Park and Ride and I’m thinking I’ll be closing in on 4 miles before I start work at nine. Worse comes to worse I’ll wear a rain coat for the evening walk ๐Ÿšถ.

Tonight will have showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 2am, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 60. ๐ŸŒง๏ธ North wind 5 to 7 mph becoming northeast after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

It looks like National Gird is busy upgrading the lines by the High School ๐Ÿšธ to add new power poles and electricity capacity to support more electric buses in the coming years. They cut the trees before Indiana bat ๐Ÿฆ‡ season and it looks like they have it marked out for the poles to be installed in the coming days. Electric buses are the future as are electric cars. It’s happening, finally now.

Then for Saturday, scattered showers, with thunderstorms also possible after noon. Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 70. ๐ŸŒฅ ๐Ÿ‘‰ โ˜€ North wind 7 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

I decided on Saturday I am going to browse used bicycles ๐Ÿšฒ to see what is available at a few local stores. I would kind of prefer a more road bike for commuting and longer distance travel then my hybrid bicycle. But I’m thinking I will continue my effort to restore my old bicycle maybe reaching out to Albany Bicycle Rescue for some help on the wheel. If I’m planning on doing a lot of bicycle commuting it might be best to have a back up after things break down as the inevitably will. ๐Ÿ›

Then heading over to Colonie to visit John Wolcott and if the weather is decent take him out to the Crossings. ๐Ÿž Then in the evening I plan to head over to the Albany Pine Bush ๐Ÿฆ‹ and stop at Market 32 in Guilderland for groceries. ๐Ÿ›’ Sunday go out and see the folks. ๐Ÿ‘ช And then the big final week ahead.

One week from now session should be wrapping up ๐Ÿง‘๐Ÿปโ€๐Ÿ’ผ and I should be able to put away my poorly fitting dress clothes for a while as I figure out what my future looks like. I’m ready for some nice summer weekends in the Potholers. Sunset on that day is 8:33 pm with dusk at 9:06. I know it well, I’ve been staying up too late. ๐ŸŒ‡ 77 degrees is the normal high, it got up to 93 degrees back in 2011. Long range says 75 and sunny for next Friday but it’s certain to change.

Memorial Day Weekend, Day Two 2023 ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ โ›บ ๐ŸŒฒ

While it would have been nice to get out of town for the Memorial Day Weekend, I’m enjoying the light breeze camping in the back country of Cole Hill, eating good healthy and delicious meals cooked over the fire and enjoying the light of a fire, the moon and candles in the evening. I’m sure if I had gone to the Adirondacks I would have been dealing with a lot more black flies to say nothing of the long drive, traffic and probably not getting my dream campsite. Onwards to Juneteenth Weekend, lol.

Good morning! Happy Sunday. Sunny and 68 degrees at the Cole Hill State Forest. ๐ŸŒž Calm wind. The dew point is 46 degrees. Warming up quickly after a somewhat cool night. I probably could have used another blanket for hammock camping last night.

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 82 degrees at 4pm. Seven degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 24th. Maximum dew point of 47 at 11am. Calm wind becoming northwest 5 to 8 mph in the afternoon. That breeze is nice and it’s not expected to be real humid. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning, which became cloudy by afternoon. The high last year was 80 degrees. The record high of 93 was set in 2016. I think that year I was camping in the Green Mountain National Forest and spending much of the day at the beach at Grout Pond. There was a dusting of snow in 1902.โ„

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:55 pm with sun having an altitude of 68.8ยฐ from the due south horizon (-2ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.3 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:43 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (294ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (301ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:24 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 21 seconds with dusk around 8:57 pm, which is 52 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Gibbous ๐ŸŒ” Moon in the south-southwest (199ยฐ) at an altitude of 51ยฐ from the horizon, 248,997 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:41 pm. At sunset, look for clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 71 degrees. The dew point will be 51 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 7 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 3 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 30 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 51 degrees at 4am. One degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 26th. Maximum dew point of 51 at 8pm. Northwest wind around 7 mph. In 2022, we had partly cloudy skies. It got down to 51 degrees. The record low of 34 occurred back in 1956.

I took my bike to Downtube and they told me that they didn’t think it warranted a professional rebuild ๐Ÿšฒ due to numerous components needing replacement to get it up and running well. They were more than happy to show me the latest 2023 models which run about $800 after tax and destination charges, but suggested my bicycle might still be a fun project to rebuild myself even if there are some components – namely the gas suspension which is bad and will fail catastrophically at some point in the future. They pointed me in the direction of the Albany Bicycle Rescue which offers free classes on bicycle repair on Tuesday.

Looking ahead, there are 2 weeks until the Gas Up Day 2 ๐Ÿšœ when the sun will be setting at 8:35 pm with dusk at 9:08 pm. On that day in 2022, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 78 and 50 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 78 degrees. We hit a record high of 94 back in 1947.

Brief Rainshower On A Hot Day

Good Morning! Happy Tuesday.

Good Morning! Happy Tuesday. The heat and humidity are on. Itโ€™s mid-summer, in one of the hottest weeks of the year. That said, much like yesterday, the heat and humidity are being limited by cloudy weather and thunderstorms.

Yesterday was a somewhat uneventful Monday, but I ended up staying late at work. Which was fine, because they have air conditioning at work. By time I got home, it was fairly warm at home. Took a short nap, then drove down the library, then to Walmart to pick up a few supplies. By the time I got home, it had cooled down a bit, and was able to santize the coolers, do some cleaning in the kitchen and the downstairs room, and just put a bit of order to things for the first time since the car crash.

The forecast for next weekend looks like a mixed bag. Some forecasts look better then others, but all seem to agree that itโ€™s going to be hot and humid. Iโ€™m not expecting to have my truck by then, so probably another weekend tent camping. Maybe I should backpack in somewhere if itโ€™s not to hot. Or if the weather looks crappy for a good portion of the weekend, maybe Iโ€™ll end up staying home. That would be fine, because the past two weekends Iโ€™ve been out traveling.

I need to get caught up on uploading photos to the blog. They are on the camera for the most part, and havenโ€™t even been transferred to the laptop or looked through. That said, recently Iโ€™ve not been taking so many photos, because it seems like I havenโ€™t been visiting many new or interesting places โ€“ just same old places that kind of my favorites.

Bright and Sunny Tuesday

Looks like another bright but cold morning, as we proceed another day closer to the weekend. The weekend weather looks marginal at this point, which is okay, as I probably need to stay in town as I am on call for work. Probably should go to the transfer station too this weekend, as my trash and recycling cans are filled up โ€“ they seem to fill up a lot faster when itโ€™s not camping season, and Iโ€™m not using theย  burnables as kindling to start campfires in the back country. That said, I donโ€™t generate much trash and most of it is recycling โ€“ and itโ€™s been since sometime in mid-2013 since Iโ€™ve been there.

Nice smooth commute downtown on the Route 719. The bus is fairly light passenger-wise, but it always is at this hour. Iโ€™ve really gotten to like to taking the expressway to work, as the bus is quieter and commute is much smoother. Certainly beats driving a car downtown, which you have to warm up and then pay attention while driving, rather then blogging. I usually complete these little short blogposts before work, but then forget to post them until later.

I think its going warm up before the end of the week, if all goes well. Going to be cloudy by Wednesday, but at some point will clear up and warm up to almost normal temperatures. Already the snow seems to be melting, but I donโ€™t believe for the minute that the snow is done for the year. This winter has been too cold for winter to give up so easily, even if we have calender spring on Thursday. Snow will probably stick around in the mountains until well in April โ€“ which why I am not really planning my first camping trip until at least mid-April. I hope by the second week of April, things will be greening up for my trip out to the Finger Lakes.

Two days to spring on this very cold, but sunny morning that reminds one more of January then mid-March. But warmer weather really can't be that far off.
