Watching the sun rise on this Columbus Day ๐ŸŒ„

Up bright and early as often is the case in the morning. Coffee and eggs just enjoying the quiet over the land as the sun rises. In the distance is the roar of an ATV as I sit warming my hands over the propane heater.

Good morning! Happy Columbus Day. โ›ต๐Ÿ‚Mostly clear and 43 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a south breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ.

Five o’clock I rose as always ๐Ÿ› and it was dark in the woods. I don’t mind, I like an early start and a good breakfast. ๐Ÿณ Annoyed I left the sweet corn ๐ŸŒฝ and onions ๐Ÿง… home but I had plenty of other good things to use in my eggs – I packed the jalapeรฑo I had plus canned ๐Ÿฅซ olives and chopped tomatoes. Kind of getting past the farm fresh tomato ๐Ÿ… time of year.

Columbus Day will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 60 degrees at 3pm. Four degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around October 19th. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 63 degrees. The record high of 83 was set in 1949. There was a dusting of snow in 2000.โ„

Cold this morning with the breeze ๐ŸŒฌ๏ธ but should get nicer as the day progreses. Going to ride Blackie ๐Ÿšต around Rennselearville State Forest on some roads and trails, have lunch ๐Ÿฒ and then head over to Partridge Run WMA for biking along the Switzkill and other gravel rides for the balance of the day. Hopefully it will warm up. Yesterday was kind of cool and wet at times, I retired to bed at nine o’clock as it started to rain as I sat by the fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ. At least my only time limitation today is getting home by dusk.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:43 pm with sun having an altitude of 41.2ยฐ from the due south horizon (-29.6ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 6.9 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 5:47 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (256ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west (262ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 6:25 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 55 seconds with dusk around 6:51 pm, which is one minute and 42 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 7:26 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 55 degrees. There will be a southwest breeze at 7 mph. Tomorrow will have 11 hours and 22 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 48 seconds over today.

Today is the big blog renewal day. ๐Ÿ“„ I’m going to bite the bullet and get it done. I like blogging and telling my story. Plus the ad revenue has been pretty good, looking forward to that first check come November. And in a few months time I should be mostly made whole, when I don’t count my time. โŒš But it’s something I like doing. Kind of like my vacation next week.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 39 degrees at 4am. Four degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 21st. South wind around 6 mph. In 2022, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 40 degrees. The record low of 25 occurred back in 1980.

That new bicycle lights are awesome. ๐Ÿ”ฆ Super bright for riding at night, no worries about hitting potholes or missing something on the road or trail riding after dark. I was so impressed doing a little bit of night riding on CCC Road last night. ๐Ÿ›’ While it might be dusk ๐ŸŒ† riding home from the grocery store tonight I should be good with that nice bright light. Plus I’ll have plenty of good fruits and vegetables to eat for the week to come. Still will need to visit Walmart probably on Tuesday for socks ๐Ÿงฆ and other supplies.

Yesterday I totally fell off the health wagon ๐Ÿป having a few beers, eating too many carbs ๐Ÿž and even maybe sneaking in a dart or two ๐Ÿšฌ around the campfire. ๐Ÿ”ฅ Big portion of couscous, chicken, celery and spices for dinner. I don’t smoke or drink except by the fire sometimes. ๐Ÿ Way too many apples and Greek yogurt. So bad! Got to have some fun, tonight it will be back to rice and lentils I think. ๐Ÿค” I need to get to the supermarket ๐Ÿ›’ and get more fresh produce tonight as I will have finished off the carrots ๐Ÿฅ• and celery along with apples ๐Ÿ and bananas ๐ŸŒ by the end of the day and I need them to eat at work tomorrow.

Rainy weekend on tap to start the October Vacation. ๐ŸŒง๏ธ Saturday, rain likely. Cloudy, with a high near 55. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Sunday, rain likely. Cloudy, with a high near 55. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Typical average high for the weekend is 62 degrees.

What a bummer. ๐Ÿ˜” I’m really watching next weekend to see how my October vacation is going to go. I really don’t want to postpone it due to rapidly dropping daylight, leaves and temperature. I can live with a rainy weekend as I drive south to West Virginia ๐Ÿ—ป but not a week of rain and high temperatures in the mid 40s. I might have to reconsider my trip – cancel it, postpone it or choose another location closer to home. I don’t know, going to watch the forecast for Thomas WV as it draws closer, the 8-14 day outlook suggests cool but dry which I’m good with if not too windy. ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Looking ahead, there are 5 weeks until Average Night Below Freezing ๐ŸŒŒ when the sun will be setting at 4:36 pm with dusk at 5:05 pm (Standard Time). On that day in 2022, we had partly cloudy and temperatures between 49 and 36 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 50 degrees. We hit a record high of 69 back in 1964. Those days are coming much too quickly and I’ll eventually need to turn back on the heat and plug air leaks in my apartment.

I guess Columbus Day Weekend isn’t a go ๐ŸŒง๏ธ

Some crappy tropical storm is coming to crap on another long weekend, wash away the colorful leaves with the driving rain and cold winds to follow in the wake. Next weekend starts my October vacation and it looks like rain so I might drive down to Pennsylvania on Saturday and West Virginia on Sunday rather than spend the weekend exploring the Pine Creek Rail Trail.

Good morning! Yeap, it’s Friday Going into Columbus Day Weekend!, โ›ต๐Ÿ‚๐ŸŒง๏ธBetter get my ass to work as the other director took it off and I was disappointed about that until I saw the long weekend forecast. To be fair, I took off the day before Labor Day Weekend and I think that was one of the few nice weekends of the summer. Independence Weekend was super smokey with the wildfire smoke. I really hemmed and hawed about heading out of town this weekend but they’re talking about an inch of rain come Saturday. Then cold windy weather Sunday into Columbus Day.

Cloudy and 62 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ There is a south-southeast breeze at 8 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 60 degrees. The skies will clear Sunday around 7 am.

Slept in late again until ten minutes before the 5:50 alarm โฐ but then again I woke up from some crazy dream about rats ๐Ÿ€ taking over the world because I had that mouse yesterday that I caught and the stupid ads I’ve been seeing on the blog. I was going to cook up quinoa with canned pumpkin ๐ŸŽƒ this morning but decided I wasn’t feeling like carbs this morning I told myself so I had a slice of bread that I made up yesterday plus eggs with all the usual vegetables.

Really thirsty this morning so I had a glass of water before coffee โ˜•. Since moderating my coffee habit and drinking a glass of water ๐Ÿ’ฆ in the evening I’ve fixed my pissing problems. Now I just got to send the lab ๐Ÿ”ฌ my $25 for checking my blood and urine. At least I don’t have bladder or prostate cancer it seems. I guess it was good to get checked out it was bad for a few days. ๐Ÿง‘โ€โš•๏ธ

Today will have a chance of showers, mainly after 3pm. Cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 71 degrees at 2pm. Five degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 25th. Maximum dew point of 64 at 12pm. South wind 8 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 75 degrees. The record high of 90 was set in 1900. There was a dusting of snow in 1954.โ„

Decent enough of a morning to ride to work ๐Ÿšฒ though I’ll probably ride the express bus ๐Ÿš home as it might rain by afternoon and I plan to bring my computer ๐Ÿ–ฅ home for the weekend. Out walking ๐Ÿšถ the usual loop around the High School ๐Ÿšธ and then I’ll shower ๐Ÿšฟ.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:44 pm with sun having an altitude of 42.3ยฐ from the due south horizon (-28.5ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 6.6 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 5:53 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (258ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west (264ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 6:30 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 55 seconds with dusk around 6:57 pm, which is one minute and 43 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 7:31 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 69 degrees. The dew point will be 64 degrees. There will be a south-southeast breeze at 9 mph. Tomorrow will have 11 hours and 30 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 50 seconds over today.

Tonight will have a chance of showers before 11pm, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms between 11pm and 2am, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 2am. Cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 62 degrees at 5am. 18 degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 64 at 6pm. South wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2022, we had partly cloudy skies. It got down to 48 degrees. The record low of 27 occurred back in 1986.

Tomorrow will have showers and possibly a thunderstorm. โ˜” Temperature rising to near 65 by 11am, then falling to around 57 during the remainder of the day. Southeast wind 7 to 10 mph becoming northwest in the afternoon. Going to have to close the windows by midday. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 71 degrees. The record high of 89 was set in 1963.

Looking ahead to Sunday, a chance of showers, mainly before 2pm. Partly sunny, ๐ŸŒค๏ธwith a high near 58. West wind 13 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. Typical average high for the weekend is 65 degrees.

Looking ahead, there are 7 weeks until Buy Nothing Day ๐Ÿ›๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 4:27 pm with dusk at 4:57 pm (Standard Time). On that day in 2022, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 49 and 24 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 46 degrees. We hit a record high of 70 back in 2014.

Back to work for me on the hottest day of autumn ๐Ÿ–

It’s just climate change is such a cruel joke as it’s going to be so cold and rainy come the Columbus Day Weekend. I can’t believe another shitty weekend is ahead.

Good morning! Fog ๐ŸŒซ and 55 degrees in Delmar, NY. Calm wind. The dew point is 55 degrees. Makes sense. I swear I woke up and was hot in the middle of the night.

Cream of wheat with warmed shredded apples ๐Ÿ, cinnamon, ginger, Greek yogurt and chia seeds for breakfast this morning. Out for the morning walk ๐Ÿšถ and then I’ll shower ๐Ÿšฟ and ride to work. ๐Ÿšฒ Also made up some rice and lentils for lunch the rest of the week.

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 83 degrees at 2pm. 16 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around August 13th. Maximum dew point of 65 at 12pm. Yeah that’s pretty August like with the humidity. Calm wind becoming south 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 60 degrees. The record high of 86 was set in 1891. 6.5 inches of snow fell back in 1987.โ„

Yesterday was a nice day and so will today. ๐Ÿข But alas it’s back to the office today. Yesterday I Rode 35 miles along the Albany – Hudson Electric Trail today from the hamlet of Rossman (South of Stuyvesant Falls) to Nassau including Kinderhook, Valatie, North Chatham. ๐Ÿšฒ Also visited Martin Van Buren Historical Site, the only bad part of that was riding along NY 9H which is very busy ๐Ÿš˜ and narrow in parts, and that very tangy smell of the slurry ๐Ÿฎ they’re spreading on the fields now that high moisture corn is mostly done, ๐ŸŒฝthough some are still chopping. Also visited the Lewis Sywer Preserve on the Hudson River and NY 9J which was pretty nice. ๐Ÿฆ

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:45 pm with sun having an altitude of 43.1° from the due south horizon (-27.7° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 6.4 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 5:56 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (259°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west (265°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 6:34 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 54 seconds with dusk around 7:00 pm, which is one minute and 45 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 7:34 pm. At sunset, look for clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 78 degrees. The dew point will be 65 degrees. There will be a south-southeast breeze at 5 mph. Tomorrow will have 11 hours and 36 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 50 seconds over today.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 59 degrees at 6am. 14 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around August 29th. Maximum dew point of 65 at 6pm. South wind 3 to 5 mph. In 2022, we had partly cloudy skies in the evening, which became light rain by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 46 degrees. The record low of 26 occurred back in 1965.

Cold and wet for the Columbus Day Weekend. โ˜” Saturday, showers before 8am, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm between 8am and 2pm, then showers after 2pm. High near 67. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Maximum dew point of 63 at 10am. Sunday, a chance of showers. Partly sunny but breezy, with a high near 56. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Columbus Day mostly cloudy and breezy, maybe 55 degrees. Typical average high for the weekend is 65 degrees.

I was hoping to get out of town for the long weekend ๐Ÿ‚to enjoy the colors of autumn but with the increasingly wet weather and cold with wind I’m not sure it’s going to happen. Heck of it is the cold rain and wind will do a number on the leaves. Wanted to see some New York color before I went to Pennsylvania and ultimately West Virginia next week. I heard they may get snow in the high country of West Virigina this weekend, though not expected to last. But for this weekend, mMaybe I’ll do a one or two night overnight close to home if Saturday isn’t that wet. ๐Ÿก.

Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until Average High is 55 ๐Ÿ‚ when the sun will be setting at 5:50 pm with dusk at 6:18 pm. On that day in 2022, we had partly sunny, warm, mist and temperatures between 69 and 54 degrees. We hit a record high of 78 back in 1950. It’s an El Niño year, we could break it again this year.

Morning at Union Falls Pond

I find it hard to believe when the radio says, Good Morning it’s Saturday, September 2nd ๐Ÿ“ป

It was a beautiful sunrise but I didn’t capture any photos though I’ll have a chance in future mornings I expect based on the forecast. Another cool, basically perfect autumn day ahead.

Good morning! Happy Saturday on this Labor Day ๐Ÿง‘โ€๐Ÿญ weekend! Partly sunny and 48 degrees at the Perkins Clearing. There is a southwest breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ.

I still can’t believe it’s Labor Day Weekend ๐ŸŒ… but it’s amazing weather all weekend. Need to maximize it but first eggs for breakfast ๐Ÿณ then a ride down to Hatch Brook Falls ๐Ÿšฒ and then lunch. In the afternoon into the evening I’m thinking ๐Ÿ’ญ of going up to Spectulator to see the fire tower lighting, maybe some kayaking ๐Ÿ›ถ and then watch the sun set over Lake Pleasant. ๐Ÿ“– Plus some time to do some reading.

Today will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 73 degrees at 3pm. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 19th. Maximum dew point of 55 at 5pm. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 80 degrees. The record high of 100 was set in 1953.

Had a nice fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ last night but didn’t stay up super late. โœจ It was a starry night until the full ๐ŸŒ• moon filled the sky with moon light. The nights are so much longer now come September, nine o’clock seems so much later. Where did summer go so quickly I keep asking myself?

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:58 pm with sun having an altitude of 54.4ยฐ from the due south horizon (-15.5ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 4.3 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 6:56 pm with the sun in the west (275ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (282ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:34 pm after setting for 3 minutes with dusk around 8:01 pm, which is one minute and 46 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:38 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 67 degrees. The dew point will be 56 degrees. There will be a west-southwest breeze at 9 mph. Today will have 13 hours and 12 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 53 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a slight chance of showers before 10pm. Partly cloudy ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 56 degrees at 6am. One degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 6th. Maximum dew point of 57 at 9pm. Southwest wind 6 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. On that day in 2022, we had sunny, warm and temperatures between 71 and 46 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 54 degrees. We hit a record high of 76 back in 1994.

Gray Evening at the Marsh

Monday returns this last one of August ๐ŸŒผ

The clam bake last night with the folks was nice, stayed overnight, having breakfast and then will head home, shower and ride to work. Got to burn off those alcohol calories from the family clam bake riding up the Madison Street Hill. Then the hike up to the 18th floor.

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. Partly sunny and 55 degrees in Dormansville, NY. ๐ŸŒ„ Calm wind. The dew point is 55 degrees. It’s a pleasant morning, I was up around 5 AM which sounds early but I was dead out a little after nine, after having a few beers with the family clam bake, then drinking some of the clam juice. Part of the reason I woke up so early is I had to go pee off the tailgate of my truck. But it was a nice morning.

I had a nice morning with mom and dad ๐Ÿณ, mom made up her scrambled eggs with tomato, spinach and feta. Maybe not as healthy as I’d make it up at home as I really like to load my eggs up with spinach, but still pretty good breakfast. They also have some bacon ๐Ÿฅ“ which I had a small portion along with toast, which I had a half a slice. Maybe I’d have more but I had a lot of clams ๐Ÿ•น last night and didn’t want to totally over-due it. Lunch today at work I am going the direction of tofu and veggies, for some less calories but still a good portion of fiber and protein. Looking at my nutrient profile, I think I’m still consuming way too much sugar in my day, so lately I’ve been swapping out some of the fruit in my office ๐Ÿ for more carrots or celery with halved avocados for dipping. ๐Ÿฅ‘ The great thing about the celery or carrot ๐Ÿฅ• combination with avocados is you end up with fiber and omega-3 fats certain to help ward off hunger for a few hours.

Today will have a slight chance of showers after 2pm. Patchy fog before 8am. Otherwise, partly sunny ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 73 degrees at 2pm. A bit foggy currently in Dormansville, will have to be careful going over Derbyshire Hill to Clarksville this morning. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 19th. Maximum dew point of 63 at 4pm. Calm wind becoming south 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. It was humid. The high last year was 83 degrees. The record high of 98 was set in 1948.

I am not sure if it’s going to rain ๐ŸŒฆ or not be nice for the evening bike ride home, but if it’s bad, I’ll just put Blackie ๐Ÿšต‍โ™€๏ธ on the bus, and we’ll take it from there. I had forgotten how nice the bike racks are on the bus, and how secure bikes ride when you mount them on the bus. ๐ŸšŒ The thing is if you ride at least one way, that’s still calories burned and time enjoyed on the bike trail, even if I can’t do both ways. But I’m hopeful the rain holds off until 6 PM or later, or if I get a little wet on my evening commute, ๐Ÿ’ฆ I don’t think I’ll necessarily melt. Might be muggy later, but probably not super hot.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:58 pm with sun having an altitude of 57.3° from the due south horizon (-13.7° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 3.9 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:01 pm with the sun in the west (278°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (284°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:39 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 59 seconds with dusk around 8:06 pm, which is one minute and 39 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Full ๐ŸŒ Moon in the southeast (137°) at an altitude of 12° from the horizon, 226,847 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:44 pm.

At sunset, look out for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 67 degrees. The dew point will be 63 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 5 mph. Tomorrow will have 13 hours and 21 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 44 seconds over today. Probably a good night to spend with a book at home ๐Ÿ“— — I still have a lot of books to read but I have to find the time to do it. I am thinking of doing another light meal for dinner to balance out the heavy calorie-rich clam bake of yesterday ๐Ÿ•น and carbs of bread and bacon this morning, probably broil tofu with smoked salt, green beans, sweet corn and crack open that cantaloupe I bought yesterday for dessert. ๐Ÿˆ Need to find out if those 36″ waist jeans I bought yesterday at Walmart fit. I should try them on. ๐Ÿ‘–

Tonight will be mostly cloudy โ˜๏ธ, with a low of 60 degrees at 4am. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical night around August 25th. Maximum dew point of 64 at 8pm. South wind around 6 mph. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It became very sticky as the night progressed. It got down to 69 degrees. The record low of 34 occurred back in 1982.

The clam bake I had with my folks was pretty good, ๐Ÿ•น though I wish there was more veggies and garlic in the mix, ๐Ÿ‘ฉ‍๐Ÿณ but I had to compromise over how I wanted it versus what my parents would like. My mom has surgery in a few days, so it was one of the last days she could enjoy food like this for a few months, so it was fun spending a nice evening out back, especially as you know these nice evenings won’t last forever.

Labor Day Weekend Looks Great. ๐Ÿ‘ทFriday, mostly sunny, with a high near 74. Maximum dew point of 57 at 6pm. Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 78. Maximum dew point of 60 at 7pm. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 79. Maximum dew point of 64 at 1pm. Labor Day, will be a warm 85 degrees and sunny. Typical average high for the weekend is 79 degrees.

Definitely going to try to take Friday off so I can get a jump on the holiday weekend โ›บ in the Adirondacks. Thinking Speculator for a great weekend with lots of sun โ˜€ relaxing, biking and swimming ๐ŸŠ. It doesn’t look like we will be short on staff, I could probably remote work but I’d rather just be able to set up camp and relax, do a lot of mountain biking or paddling on Friday, especially as the weather looks so nice. And hammock time with a good book. ๐Ÿ˜ Plus maybe some of those fourth of July fireworks I bought but never lit off.  And a few cold beers, though not like back in the day. ๐Ÿบ I mean I was surprised how many pounds I packed on Piseco-Powley during that rainy weekend a few weeks back, with some drinking and too many shrimp and other things cooked with cornstarch. Burned it off in a few days, but it was noticeable.

Hard to believe but, next Monday is Labor Day ๐Ÿ‘จ‍๐Ÿญ when the sun will be setting at 7:27 pm with dusk at 7:54 pm. Dark so early, come September! On that day in 2022, we had hot, humid, partly sunny, rain showers and temperatures between 87 and 61 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 79 degrees. We hit a record high of 97 back in 1929.

Full Dumpster

Closing out summer weekends on this rainy Friday โ˜”

Next weekend is Labor Day Weekend, words that I find almost find hard to write. As that garage in Johnstown has on the sign, summer should get a speeding ticket.

Good morning! Yeah, it’s Friday! Clouds with a break in the rain and 65 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ There is a south-southeast breeze at 9 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 63 degrees. 0.52 inches of rain is expected before it ends tomorrow around 4 am.

Another day for busing it ๐Ÿš as I’m not convinced that it won’t turn to heavy rain last night. At least this time I’m prepared with my rain coat ๐Ÿงฅ so that almost guarantees that it won’t rain. Next week at this time I’m hoping to be well on my way to Spectulator so I can set up camp โ›บ before nine o’clock for the long weekend. I’ll see if I can remote work otherwise I’ll take off a personal day.

Today will have showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 9am, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 9am. Cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 75 degrees at 3pm. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 14th. Maximum dew point of 70 at 2pm. South wind around 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.  It could be a swamp for bicycling home, assuming it’s not raining. And I’m not convinced that will be the case. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 87 degrees. The record high of 99 was set in 1947.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:59 pm with sun having an altitude of 58.2° from the due south horizon (-12.6° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 3.7 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:06 pm with the sun in the west (279°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (286°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:44 pm after setting for 3 minutes with dusk around 8:11 pm, which is one minute and 38 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Gibbous ๐ŸŒ” Moon in the south (180°) at an altitude of 20° from the horizon, 232,021 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:49 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and thunderstorms ๐ŸŒฉ and temperatures around 73 degrees. The dew point will be 69 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 13 hours and 32 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 42 seconds over yesterday.

If it’s not raining too much today, ๐Ÿž I am thinking of riding down to Hannaford and getting some whole-wheat flower and yeast so I can start experimenting with making bread again for the first time in years. Looking to make some simple, relatively healthy wholegrain bread as a way to mix up my diet more, especially with winter coming and wanting to have something to dip into the various vegetable soups I want to make come winter. ๐Ÿฒ And maybe some more frozen fruit, though that could wait to the weekend as I sliced into the pineapple ๐Ÿ last night and still have bananas left.

Tonight will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms before midnight, then a slight chance of showers between midnight and 5am. Patchy fog after midnight. Otherwise, mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 66 degrees at 6am. Seven degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 70 at 6pm. Light and variable wind. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It was humid. It got down to 62 degrees. The record low of 40 occurred back in 1942.

On this day in 1950, President Harry Truman orders the U.S. Army to seize control of the nation’s railroads to avert a strike๐Ÿ—๏ธ So much for the boy from Missouri being a socialist. ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ณ For those looking for more processed food and unhealthy levels of salt in their diet, in 1958 world’s first publicly marketed instant noodles, ๐Ÿ Chikin Ramen, are introduced by Taiwanese-Japanese businessman Momofuku Ando. And for us Linux users, in 1991 Linus Torvalds announces the first version of what will become Linux. ๐Ÿง

Tomorrow will have a slight chance of showers, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Partly sunny ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 79 degrees at 3pm. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 1st. Maximum dew point of 66 at 9am. Northwest wind 5 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 83 degrees. The record high of 98 was set in 1948.

John Wolcott’s funeral is on Saturday at ten AM, โšฑ so I will be needing to get up at the normal time, go for my walk, have breakfast ๐Ÿฅž and then shower ๐Ÿ›€ and get on the suit and black tie. ๐Ÿ‘” After the funeral, I am thinking I will run to Albany Walmart or maybe just Aldi’s as it’s out in the Colonie, then maybe to Indian Farms and Our Families Harvest to stock up on fresh fruit and vegetables, namely apples and sweet corn. ๐Ÿ ๐ŸŒฝ Also I’m quite interested in the Farmer’s Indian Market off Central. Might be some good spices and unusual vegetables at an affordable rate there. Plus bulk bags of rice, lentils and MSG. Got to have that MSG. ๐Ÿ‘น Lol! Honest, it doesn’t turn you into a monster but it makes food taste so good.

Looking ahead to Sunday, partly sunny and cool, with a high near 74. โ˜€ North wind around 6 mph. Maximum dew point of 60 at 11am. Very autumn like. Should be a nice day for the clam bake with my parents. I’m actually tempted to get up early and do a hike or bike ride early in the morning. ๐Ÿšด‍โ™€๏ธ Typical average high for the weekend is 81 degrees.

Looking ahead, next Friday the Average High Falls To 79 ๐ŸŽ‘ when the sun will be setting at 7:31 pm with dusk at 7:59 pm. On that day in 2022, we had mostly sunny, rain showers and temperatures between 73 and 55 degrees. We hit a record high of 96 during the 1953 heat wave ๐ŸŒŠ . Summer comes to a close.

A busy Saturday ahead ๐Ÿซ‘๐Ÿšต ๐Ÿ›’๐Ÿง“

My day explained in emoji lol. There is much to do today though first I’m pausing at Five Rivers Environmental Education Center for a walk and nature observation until 8:30 when I head back home.

Good morning! Partly sunny ๐ŸŒž and 57 degrees at the Five Rivers Environmental Education Center. Calm wind. The dew point is 55 degrees.

I could have walked ๐Ÿšถ in the neighborhood this morning but I was thinking with Blackie ๐Ÿšต the ride to Five Rivers Environmental Education Center ๐Ÿธ is but twenty minutes away and it’s been a few weeks since I’ve been out here. Figured check out the cows ๐Ÿฎ and the farm landscape on Meads Lane and see what Meads has for sale. ๐Ÿ… Those heirloom tomatoes look good. It looked like they had some nice flowers ๐ŸŒป but I can’t eat that. And freezer beef ๐Ÿฅฉ something to keep in mind but not for today. ๐Ÿฆ Time is tight at Five Rivers though by 8:30 need to be back on the road to be home before nine 9โƒฃ to shower ๐Ÿšฟ.

Breakfast was oatmeal and banana pancakes ๐Ÿฅž topped with Maine blueberries ๐Ÿซ and sugar free syrup. Decided to experiment using night before oatmeal – I let the oatmeal soak in water overnight in the fridge to let it expand and soften before blending with the mixer today, and also added some stevia for sweetness (unneeded) and also some vanilla for a vanilla flavor (also probably not needed). Chia seeds for protein. Fresh coffee โ˜• with milk and I added a glob of fat free plain Greek yogurt. Good breakfast.

Lunch today is going to be good ol spike your blood sugar with couscous ๐Ÿš mixed with chia seeds, edamine and chopped red onions. On the whole not so bad as I included protein, fats and fiber as the edamine is unshelled and couscous cooks ๐Ÿง‘โ€๐Ÿณquickly unlike brown rice or anything whole grain. I treat chia seeds as a band aid for all wrong in my diet lol but they’re kind of fatty too. ๐Ÿฉน Time is tight and I’m out of cooked rice. ๐Ÿ•’ Looking at the label for couscous it really is junk food though at least it is fat and added sugar free. But all carbs no vitamins at all except a tiny amount of iron. But it’s done in five minutes after boiling water ๐Ÿ’ฆ which cooks the edamine.

Today will have showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm, mainly after 4pm. Otherwise, partly sunny ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 80 degrees at 2pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around August 28th. Maximum dew point of 68 at 6pm. Light southeast wind becoming south 5 to 10 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 79 degrees. The record high of 99 was set in 1944.

At nine 9โƒฃ I plan to shower ๐Ÿšฟ and load Blackie into Big Red. ๐Ÿšฒ Gas up Big Red โ›ฝโžก ๐Ÿ›ป and at ten o’clock drive out to Stanton’s Farm Market in New Scotland ๐Ÿซ‘ to see what they have. Peaches, hot peppers more zucchini and sweet corn ๐ŸŒฝ are on the short list. Bringing a cooler with ice to keep things fresh. Then visit Goodwill in Guilderland to see what they have for clothes that might fit me well with my smaller size. ๐Ÿ‘•๐Ÿ‘– I’m not that hopeful, they’re small and I’ve heard their men’s section is tiny and they’re over priced – often no cheaper than new at Walmart. Then mountain biking in the Albany Pine Bush ๐Ÿšต which is allowed on preserve trails. Nothing crazy, no jumping steps or roaring through the preserve, just a nice easy ride for observing nature. ๐Ÿ”ญ

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 1:01 pm with sun having an altitude of 62.4ยฐ from the due south horizon (-8.4ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 3.1 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:24 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (285ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (292ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:03 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 6 seconds with dusk around 8:32 pm, which is one minute and 24 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:12 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and thunderstorms ๐ŸŒฉ and temperatures around 72 degrees. The dew point will be 67 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 7 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 6 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 28 seconds over yesterday.

After one o’clock I want to run up to Salvation Army in Schenectady off of Central Avenue. ๐Ÿ‘– They have a much bigger selection and are much more affordable. I used to go there when I was starting out my career for affordable dress clothing. ๐Ÿ•ด๐ŸปIf time doesn’t allow I’ll go there after visiting John Wolcott but it makes sense to go before due to the location and trip route, plus I saw online they often close early due to a lack of staff. ๐Ÿง“ Then visiting John Wolcott. He’s been home from the hospital for nearly two weeks but he’s not doing that great I’ve heard so time is precious. Then depending on time and the weather and the order I visit Salvation Army a possible bike ride from Five Mile Reservoir or the Erie Canal Trail in Niskayuna. ๐Ÿšฒ Might be raining โ˜” by then. Then Walmart or another grocery store in search of pearl onions and another big bag of sweet onions, plus frozen fruit, frozen spinach and kale.๐Ÿ›’

Tonight will have showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 10pm. Some of the storms could produce small hail, gusty winds, and heavy rain. Patchy fog before 1am, then patchy fog after 2am. ๐ŸŒง Low of 65 degrees at 5am. Three degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 68 at 6pm. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ South wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2022, we had cloudy skies. It got down to 59 degrees. The record low of 43 occurred back in 1957.

Yesterday rode to work ๐Ÿšฒ after riding to my dentist appointment ๐Ÿฆท. My teeth are in excellent shape for age forty, though I was worried ๐Ÿ˜ฏ after all that ice cream ๐Ÿฆ, lemons ๐Ÿ‹ and hot peppers ๐ŸŒถ๏ธ out in the Finger Lakes with reduced milk ๐Ÿฅ› consumption but more Greek yogurt. After work rode to Voorheesville for 32 miles ridden for the day. ๐Ÿšฒ Nice evening, beautiful out at the Voorheesville Park ๐Ÿž before heading out past the high school and library then back on the rail trail.

Tomorrow I’m thinking ๐Ÿ’ญ about riding out to Indian Ladder Farms to see what they have in stock ๐Ÿ, probably apples from last year but I wonder what else. Looking forward to fresh apples come the autumn from sure from Indian Ladder. Signed up for their newsletter ๐Ÿ“ฐ last night. Then out to the folks house ๐Ÿ‘ช though in Big Red and not on Blackie for that. ๐Ÿ›ป

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until National Dog Day ๐Ÿฉ when the sun will be setting at 7:41 pm with dusk at 8:09 pm. On that day in 2022, we had humid, partly cloudy and temperatures between 83 and 62 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 81 degrees. We hit a record high of 98 back in 1948.
