June 18, 2020 Night

Good evening! Mostly clear and 66 degrees at Mason Lake. 🌃 Calm wind. The dew point is 59 degrees.

Not right on the lake like last time I camped up here but so be it. ⛺ This campsite has decent sunshine and okay cell service so I’m hoping to work all day here tomorrow but it will depend on if I need high speed internet for work and how hot it gets and how much I want to go to Spectulator Beach for a swim. 🏊

Kept camp simple for the night 🌃 as I just wanted to hang out and relax and I wanted to avoid draining the battery bank 🔋 so I have plenty of energy ⚡ for work tomorrow. The truth is the propane lantern 🏮 in the screen tent plus the ordinary 12 volt lamp in the truck cap is plenty.

Gathering wood for the fire 🔥 I think I wandered into a patch of poison ivy. 🌿Not sure if I got any of the urushol on my legs but I washed them down with water 💦 and soap and changed my socks. I also washed my hands. ✋ Hoping I won’t break out later in the weekend. I knew about the poison ivy in the area and I spotted several three leaf plants near the campsite but most of them where black berry. The poison ivy was down the road from camp.

Tonight will have patchy fog after 3am. Otherwise, partly cloudy , with a low of 58 degrees at 5am. Typical for tonight. Maximum dew point of 59 at 11pm. Calm wind. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It was humid. It got down to 66 degrees. The record low of 38 occurred back in 1950.

Tired 😴 and it was relatively late by the time I got up here as I worked from home and had a few loose ends so I didn’t get to leave right at five. Plus this area is a bit longer drive than Piseco Powley Road which not only is closed on the south end but lacks the essential cell service I need for work. 📝

Tonight will have a Waining Crescent 🌘 Moon with 5% illuminated. Really good for observing 🔭 the stars tonight – quite clear. The Buck 🦌 Moon is on Thursday, July 2. The darkest hour is at 1:00 am, followed by dawn at 4:41 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:17 am in the northeast (56°) and last for 3 minutes and 32 seconds. Sunrise is 7 seconds later than yesterday. 🌄 The golden hour ends at 6:01 am with sun in the east-northeast (63°). Tonight will have 8 hours and 34 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 9 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have isolated showers and thunderstorms after 1pm. Patchy fog before 8am. Otherwise, mostly sunny , with a high of 80 degrees at 3pm. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 22nd. Maximum dew point of 61 at 7am. ☀ Light south wind. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 79 degrees. The record high of 94 was set in 1995.

So at the meeting today we were told we had to work a half day on Saturday 💻 and to plan on working late Monday and Tuesday. That said, I’ll probably just work from camp. Going to have to change sites on Sunday but I have a plan. If I can’t get the site I want I might head home Sunday night. Otherwise I’ll stay up until Wednesday – and the who knows. I was thinking I could head up north of Tupper Lake or even up to Saint Lawrence County or maybe the places in the Tug Hill where I have good reception 📶. From the meeting this morning it sounds like our physical office 🏢 won’t be reopening anytime soon. I just hope the bus service is back up and running before then. 🚍

Big Red drives nice with the new ball joints and tie rod ends. 🚘 It wasn’t cheap and while if I was a mechanic I could have saved a bucket of money 🔧 I shouldn’t have to worry about either failing in the life of the vehicle at this point. I can cringe at the cost but I knew it would be necessary after a number of years with the lift kit – which has been on the truck for five and a half years now. I’m much more able to get in and out of tight turns and it rides quieter and steers a hell of a lot better. Hopefully the uneven tire wear will be arrested too. I had budgeted for it when I bought the lift kit and it’s not like I’ve not destroyed them on every other car I’ve owned with the shitty roads I drive. Price the shop quoted me was basically the same price as when I had a similar job quoted on my old truck years ago.

My truck may be pissing a lot of money away 💸 but having a fun car at least once when you are young is worth it if only for the lifetime of memories. I’ve learned so much about batteries 🔋, electricity and solar power and its lead to many nights in the wilderness. 🐺 Could I have given the money away to feed needy children 🚸 or invested it?💰 Sure but it was luxury I could afford and I go without plenty of things like air conditioning, or high speed internet at home. I don’t take expensive vacations, I’m happier wilderness camping ⛺.

The fan I bought yesterday 💨seems to be quite powerful and when the motor heats up uses a little under 35 watts and a bit more when cold. It’s alternating current so there will be greater inverter and reactance loses than my DC fan I use in my truck cap but it’s a lot easier to run 120 volt AC line back to the screen tent 🎪 especially if I’m also charging my laptop and phone 📱 for work.

In four weeks on July 16 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (301°) at 8:35 pm,🌄 which is 6 minutes and 4 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had hot, humid, partly sunny, thunderstorm and temperatures between 92 and 60 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 83 and 62 degrees. The record high of 97 degrees was set back in 1900.

Settles Hill

June 15, 2020 10 PM Update

Good evening! Mostly clear and 69 degrees in Delmar, NY. Calm wind. The dew point is 49 degrees. Not a half bad evening not really hot.

Today was a long day at work 💼 but I got two hours of overtime so I can’t complain too much. Working late though meant I couldn’t walk out to Five Rivers after work but I did get down to the park ⛲ and walked some of the trails in the ravine. A found a tick on my neck which I pulled. 🐜 It was a butch to remove. I got podcasts so I was happy about that. 🎧 I kind of wish I could have been on the wifi today as sometimes watching a movie picture in pictures can pass the time when I work, especially the more boring 💤 parts of the day.

Tonight will have patchy fog after 5am. Otherwise, mostly clear 🌃, with a low of 51 degrees at 5am. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 29th. Maximum dew point of 49 at 8pm. Light northwest wind. In 2019, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became light rain by the early hours of the morning. It became somewhat humid as the night progressed. It got down to 63 degrees. The record low of 40 occurred back in 1961.

Tonight will have a Waining Crescent 🌘 Moon with 24% illuminated. The darkest hour is at 12:57 am, followed by dawn at 4:43 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:18 am in the east-northeast (57°) and last for 3 minutes and 27 seconds. Sunrise is one second later than yesterday. 🌄 The golden hour ends at 6:01 am with sun in the east-northeast (64°). Tonight will have 8 hours and 41 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 21 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be sunny 🌞, with a high of 81 degrees at 4pm. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 26th. Maximum dew point of 52 at 10am. Calm wind. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, which became light rain by afternoon. The high last year was 68 degrees. The record high of 96 was set in 1967.

I couldn’t sit out back because Big Red 🚘 is still at the shop with my lawn chair out back. As usually is the case when you have alignment issues and tire wear, the tie rods and ball joints needed replacement to do the alignment but I’d rather replace them then have them break on the trail or road. When they snap sometimes they do body damage or cause the truck to roll depending on the speed they snap. And the internet is full of Chevy pictures with snapped tie rods, it’s a meme. 😭

Those Chevy’s have notoriously weak tie rods and with the lift kit they’re do for replacement at 90k miles. 🔧 But hopefully this will even out the tire wear and things will last at least through the inspection in November. ⚫ It was noticeable just looking at the front wheels over the past year – they’ve been looking fairly messed up for a while. Cheaper than new tires or renting a car when the wheel fell off. Not a lot of tire wear up front but it’s obvious looking at them they were a bit messed up and the classic popping noise of the ball joints could be heard at times.⚪ A little less than $1,200 later I’ll have the truck back tomorrow. But so be it – I’ve already budgeted for it when I bought the lift kit six years ago – figured $5,000 for the lift kit then $5,000 for repairs thereafter.

I did plan for this week as I knew I would work late several nights 💵 and earn some overtime which adds up at time and a half. This will be a good week for billable hours at my job. I’ll retire the debt tomorrow from savings and hopefully the rest of the summer will be trouble free with the trugk.

I want to get two more summers out of it and I’ll make a decision next year at the end of 2021 if I want to retire Big Red and go carless for a few years. 🚲 I think it would be fun to have a bicycle and ride around town, do more things in town, maybe get a drink somewhere or even have internet at home and just rent a car a few times a year for road trips. I’m ready for not having to deal with the automotive industry or car insurance for a few years. Even with Uber fees and car rentals it really is a big savings. A lot of my colleagues have gone carless – they rent a car, take a bus or train, or Uber everywhere. I know the reaction I get from people is I’m nuts.

That said, at least I shouldn’t have to worry so much about either of those things failing anytime soon 🚘 or saving miles at this point. I’ve been a bit concerned about the tie rods for a while, I knew they were getting bad. I’m probably still considering going north for the second half of the week ⛺ as even if I do work long days as long as I have power and cell service I can log the hours ⏳ and get the work done that needs to happen from my screen tent 🎪 it hammock or even by the campfire. 🔥

I run a tight budget and I’m always saving where I can 💸but I love 😍 being in the woods and I give up plenty of other things my colleagues enjoy like nicer apartments, air conditioning, wireless internet, cable television, haul my own trash to the transfer station and I take the bus to work. 🚘 Big Red is kind of my guilty pleasure but I paid cash for it so I’ve never paid any financing fees for it. And I’m investing a lot of money and saving for retirement. But I’m not perfect.

And while land and implements is expensive 🚜 I do expect by then to have more money and when you own land you don’t pay rent. 🏡 And if I live off grid there won’t be electric and gas bills, especially if I can harvest wood for heat. 🔌 I doubt I’ll ever have cable or wireless internet and I expect my trash will go up in smoke – that is besides the cans and glass for recycling ♻ .

In four weeks on July 13 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (301°) at 8:32 pm,🌄 which is 2 minutes and 42 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had hot, partly sunny and temperatures between 88 and 65 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 83 and 62 degrees. The record high of 96 degrees was set back in 1894.

Looking ahead, Average High is 80 🏖 is in 1 week.

Settles Hill

June 9, 2020 Night

Good evening! Partly clear and 68 degrees Mason Lake. 🌟 Calm wind. The dew point is 54 degrees.

Sitting down by the lake, listening to the frogs 🐸, a screech owl and a loon. Drinking a beer 🍻 looking up at stars ✨. One firefly in the air. 🐝 Also a bit of a noisy party with people hanging out at a campsite down the lake. ✨ Checking out the stars with the star gazing app on my phone.

After packing up and organizing my gear, I ended up working from my campsite all day. ⛺ I just moved Big Red a few feet to make sure it was parked in the sun to keep the laptop and battery bank charged. Packing things up helped get things a lot more organized – and this morning had more downtime then recent. Finally hung up the flags 🎌 and hammock and electric lights tonight. They do make camping kind of more fun.

It’s night three at this campsite so I have to take camp down in the morning. 🌅 I I’m going to work down in Speculator – probably just using my phone and if necessary the cellular internet on the work laptop and in the afternoon will work down at the Speculator library until 5 pm. Strangely enough it wasn’t until this afternoon I hung up the flags 🎌 or the hammock but I’ve been so busy this week – I was tired 😴 after hiking Sunday and Monday I had to work late and by the time I had dinner and went fishing 🎣 it was dark and I had to call it a night 🌃.

Come the close of business tomorrow 💼 it will have been a six night camping trip with five days of work and a weekend through in when I did some hiking. Left last Thursday at 6 am before work, I’ll be home before 8 pm Wednesday this week. Because five out of the seven days were work days and my office has been quite busy, I won’t say I did a lot of scenic viewing but the hike through the dirt logging trails of Perkins Clearing to the Speculator Pig Rock 🐽 and Jessup River 🐠, the hike to Fawn Lake and Wilcox Vly were nice. 🚶 As was fishing 🎣 down at Mason Lake after work and hiking the Speculator Nature Trail several times. Solar for the most part kept my work laptop 💻 well charged.

But alas I’m running low on clothes 👖 and food 🍔 so I need to head home tomorrow after work. The ice will be gone by tomorrow but I have little left to spoil. There is no reason this can’t repeat in two weeks should my office remain closed. 🏢 That said I kind of expect to be riding the bus 🚍 to work downtown next week even though nothing formal has been announced yet. Autumn though maybe the pandemic will be back and I can hunt before work. Plus a lack of sun later in the week poses a problem for keeping the meccessary electrons flowing.

Tonight will be partly cloudy 🌤, with a low of 54 degrees at 5am. One degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around June 8th. Maximum dew point of 54 at 10pm. Light east wind. In 2019, we had partly cloudy skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 53 degrees. The record low of 36 occurred back in 1975.

Tonight will have a Waining Gibbous 🌖 Moon with 79% illuminated. The darkest hour is at 12:58 am, followed by dawn at 4:42 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:17 am in the east-northeast (57°) and last for 3 minutes and 31 seconds. Sunrise is 12 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌄 The golden hour ends at 6:01 am with sun in the east-northeast (64°). Tonight will have 8 hours and 38 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 46 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly after 4pm. ⚡ Some of the storms could produce small hail, gusty winds, and heavy rain. Increasing clouds 🌧, with a high of 74 degrees at 3pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 2nd. Maximum dew point of 66 at 5pm. Southeast wind 6 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 81 degrees. The record high of 96 was set in 2008.

My goal is to take down camp quite early tomorrow and be on the road to Speculator 🚙 which is only a ten minute drive away. Then get into the meat 🍖 of the day, get client issues addressed and maybe if there is a little downtime before 11 am hop in the Speculator Beach or hike at the nature trail. I’m hoping I won’t have to work late like on Monday. Then I’m pretty sure I’ll drive home. Not thinking it’s going to be that cloudy ⛅ all day and while there may be some severe thunderstorm ⚡ in the afternoon I feel relatively safe working inside the truck. I’ll shut off the inverter and unplug the laptop if there is severe lightning.

Honesty, working up in the Adirondacks has been a lot more productive than working at home 🏡 or in the office 🏢. For one, I don’t use my work laptop for any personal business including checking the weather or news 📰 and certainly not my blog. If I was in the office on the wired or Wi-Fi internet, especially in my personal laptop I’d be checking social media multiple times a day, reading the news and probably streaming a YouTube video in the background. 📹 I also feel like while I’m working remotely, especially in the Adirondacks camping, I have to be super responsive to client texts, calls and emails especially during work hours. 📟 While I try to be serious at work, remote work from the Adirondacks I’m twice as serious about doing my job to the best of my ability. I don’t want to make it seem like I’m on vacation. 🏊

In four weeks on July 7 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (303°) at 8:40 pm,🌄 which is 3 minutes later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had humid, mostly sunny and temperatures between 81 and 64 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 82 and 61 degrees. The record high of 97 degrees was set back in 1988.

Looking ahead, Primary Day 🗳️ is in 2 weeks, Election Day 2020 🗳️ is in 21 weeks and Election Day 2020 🗳️ is in 21 weeks.

June 8, 2020 Night

Good evening! Partly clear and 61 degrees at the Perkins Clearing. ☁ A lot of high clouds. There is a northwest breeze at 8 mph. 🍃. The dew point is 42 degrees.

The past two nights I’ve been keeping it simple with no flags or electric lights. 💡 Just a small fire 🔥 tonight and none last night. It doesn’t get dark until late this time of year and the problem is that if I stay up late and wake up around dawn I’m not getting enough sleep. 😴 I was doing so well before the pandemic started at getting to bed early – especially with my earlier work hours 🕒 but I kind of fell of a clift when work at home started and I didn’t have to factor in commute time and could eat breakfast 🍳 while working.

It was a busy day with work once things got fully underway around 10. I ended up driving down to Speculator today, to use the Speculator Library Wi-Fi. 📙 I was having trouble uploading data into the computer database so I needed Wi-Fi. That was fine as I was busy today at work and then Wi-Fi is so much faster and more reliable than the cellular service. 📶 For a while mid afternoon it felt like I was a short order cook and ended up working into the evening. Did a little bit of fishing down a Mason Lake 🎣 which was so buggy. I should have brought bug spray down to the lake because I’m sure the fish were biting but I had some burgers 🍔 made from the very over priced grounded hamburger mest I bought down at Charlie John’s. Beef 🐄 is pricey with the pandemic closing the slaughter houses even though farmers struggle to sell their cows.

Tonight will be partly cloudy 🌤, with a low of 48 degrees at 5am. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 20th. West wind 5 to 8 mph. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 49 degrees. The record low of 37 occurred back in 1977.

Tonight will have a Waining Gibbous 🌖 Moon with 87% illuminated. The moon will rise at 11:36 pm. The darkest hour is at 12:58 am, followed by dawn at 4:42 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:18 am in the east-northeast (57°) and last for 3 minutes and 31 seconds. Sunrise is 14 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌄 The golden hour ends at 6:01 am with sun in the east-northeast (64°). Tonight will have 8 hours and 39 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 50 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have isolated showers after 2pm. Mostly sunny 🌞, with a high of 77 degrees at 4pm. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 10th. Maximum dew point of 52 at 6pm. West wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 83 degrees. The record high of 100 was set in 1933.

While technically I can stay at this campsite one more night 🌃, I think I will take down camp by mid morning and head into town. I might camp somewhere closer to Speculator tomorrow night or I might drive home. It depends how late I have to work. Or maybe I’ll stay here one more night. Wednesday looks stormy by afternoon which I could work down at the Speculator library but a bad thunderstorm could make it hard to work with pounding rain ☔ on the roof of the truck.

In four weeks on July 6 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (303°) at 8:41 pm,🌄 which is 3 minutes and 59 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had rain and temperatures between 92 and 73 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 82 and 61 degrees. The record high of 97 degrees was set back in 1886.

As of tomorrow I will have been up in the Adirondacks for six days, working four of them. 💼 It’s not been days at the beach, honestly it’s been a lot of hours on the phone talking to clients, 📞 writing emails 📧 and memos 📝. It’s also been a lot of hours at the library parking lot using the Wi-Fi. I will have worked a total of seven work days between the two trips since Memorial Day Weekend. Kind of like a vacation week without actually taking time off work so far I’ve clocked in 44 hours working up north – over a work week. But with work from vacation land.

Looking ahead, Average High is 80 🏖 is in 2 weeks.

 Clearing At Stewart Landing

June 6, 2020 Night

Good evening! Clear and chilly around 55 degrees at the Perkins Clearing. ☔ There is a northwest breeze at 10 mph. 🍃. The dew point is 47 degrees. That breeze along with the dampness of the rain earlier make it kind of chilly.

I did lay back in the hammock for a bit until I decided it was getting cold and I put my jeans, 👖, hoodie and vest on. I don’t think I was fully prepared for how chilly this evening would be after the rain shower and strong winds pushed through followed by the rainbow 🌈. Stars ✨ are real pretty now that I’ve cut the lights for the night 🌃 but it’s cold so after sitting by the fire 🔥 for a while I hit bed in the truck.

While this campsite ⛺ is quite beautiful 🗻 it is very exposed to the weather. Sunny days are hot. The wind is always quite strong here. 💨 It’s a great place to be cold and get a sunburn. A few of the days working under the screen tent 🎪 may have pleasant but they sure where hot.

It was nice hiking 🚶 through logging roads down from Mud Pond Road to NY 30, through mixed age woods and some more recently cut areas. Part of the less used part of the logging road was a bit muddy but the recent cut areas are well maintained. 🌲🌲🌲Definitely see a lot of grassland birds including grouse that are relatively uncommon in other parts of the Adirondacks. Seeing the pig rock 🐽 up close was neat – I’ve only driven by it before and while I’m not sure if Jessup River under NY 30 has currently enough water to paddle 🚣 it looks like good fishing 🎣. More photos to come when I get home.

I am afraid my love 😍 of apple juice 🍏 as an alternative to beer 🍻 due to the recycling returns ♻ restrictions due to Coronavirus caught up with my after dinner in the sense I had to run to the bucket shitter 💩 twice after dinner. That plus the greasy sausage patty despite the cheese and sauce toping did not help. At least mornings are nicer with no hang over. 😖 Feeling fine now but I was hot and I pounded the apple juice rather than the water 💦 when I got back to camp.

Tonight will have a slight chance of showers before 11pm. Partly cloudy 🌧, with a low of 46 degrees at 6am. Eight degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 14th. North wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 53 degrees. The record low of 37 occurred back in 1958.

Tonight will have a Full 🌝 Moon with 97% illuminated. The moon will rise at 9:51 pm. Late enough for some star viewing ✨ before the moons light pollution drowns out everything. The darkest hour is at 12:57 am, followed by dawn at 4:43 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:18 am in the east-northeast (57°) and last for 3 minutes and 30 seconds. Sunrise is 19 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌄 The golden hour ends at 6:01 am with sun in the east-northeast (64°). Tonight will have 8 hours and 40 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 57 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny 🌞, with a high of 65 degrees at 3pm. 11 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 2nd. North wind around 10 mph. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 82 degrees. The record high of 95 was set in 1999.

I am still kind of ruminating about the loss of Eli the family dog 🐶 I hadn’t seen in weeks due to the pandemic. I knew he wasn’t doing all that well and he was getting old for a dog but it just bothers me a lot about so much of the world 🌍 keeps moving on while we social distance. Virtual life isn’t the same as human contact. I should call 📞 mom again on Monday. I’m probably going to camp for one or two more nights at a different campsite and work up here for a few days before heading home. I’d still like to do some shore fishing 🎣 at Mason Lake.

In four weeks on July 4 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (303°) at 8:41 pm,🌄 which is 5 minutes and 56 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had hot and humid weather, mostly sunny and temperatures between 91 and 66 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 82 and 61 degrees. The record high of 104 degrees was set back in 1911.

Looking ahead, Summer ️⛱️ is in 2 weeks.

North 3

June 1, 2020 Night

Good evening! First day of June 1st done. Partly cloudy and 57 degrees in Delmar, NY. ⛅ There is a north-northwest breeze at 5 mph. 🍃.

Starting to get a bit chilly out back but I watched some YouTube videos I downloaded today at the library on the laptop 💻 out back under the very starry skies and moon light. Kind of a nice evening but getting chilly. Saw one or two fireflies earlier but there time now. Also heard an owl. Been out back for almost three hours now.

Busy day at work so I didn’t get much time to work on the blog. 📝 Just a lot of emails and projects to do through the day. I did go for both a morning and a evening walk around the super block today. 🚶 Didn’t make it out to Five Rivers today, too busy and it got cloudy out by afternoon.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy 🌥, with a low of 48 degrees at 5am. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 20th. North wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 49 degrees. The record low of 39 occurred back in 1971.

Tonight will have a Waxing Gibbous 🌔 Moon with 83% illuminated. At 10 PM, the moon was in the south (185°) at an altitude of 43° from the horizon, some 226,421 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. 🚀 At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by November 20th. Buckle up for safety! 💺 The Strawberry 🍓 Moon is on Friday, June 5. The darkest hour is at 12:54 am, followed by dawn at 4:47 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:21 am in the east-northeast (59°) and last for 3 minutes and 24 seconds. Sunrise is 28 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌄 The golden hour ends at 6:03 am with sun in the east-northeast (65°). Tonight will have 8 hours and 52 minutes of darkness, a decrease of one minute and 12 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be mostly cloudy 🌥, with a high of 71 degrees at 2pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 22nd. Maximum dew point of 50 at 6pm. Calm wind becoming south 5 to 9 mph in the morning. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 76 degrees. The record high of 94 was set in 1895.

Tomorrow I need to decide on my weekend plans – if I decide to go north ⛺ I have to pack Wednesday and leave by 6:15 am to be ready to go and clock in at Spectulator by nine and get down to work. I’ll probably work at the library Wi-Fi and my phone an set up camp after work at Five. I’ll bring extra clothes and food this time in case I move to another campsite Sunday night and stay up north even longer than planned.

In four weeks on June 29 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (303°) at 8:37 pm,🌄 which is 10 minutes and 24 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had hot, humid, mostly sunny, rain showers and temperatures between 87 and 70 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 81 and 60 degrees. The record high of 96 degrees was set back in 1944.

Looking ahead, Average High is 80 🏖 is in 3 weeks.

Old Canastota Reservior

May 31, 2020 Night

Good evening! Partly clear and 55 degrees in Delmar, NY. 🌃 There is a west breeze at 8 mph. 🍃

It’s a fairly nice evening, I thought 💭 it was a good weekend. Saturday I went to Schodack Island and Sunday to the Albany Pine Bush Preserve and Five Rivers. Spent a lot of time looking at the birds 🐦 and wildlife. 🐸 🐰 Even common wildlife is fascinating to observe. 🔎 It’s so easy to walk by it in the woods and not observe all that is happening. I did see some fireflies 🐝 outside the other night, I’ve not spent as many evenings out back lately as another one of those camping chairs I got from Walmart is falling apart again. I should look for something of better quality.

I am still thinking about heading up to the Adirondacks on Thursday bright and early ☀ before work and spending Thursday and Friday working up north and Saturday and Sunday recreating. Its only three nights camping so I could stay all weekend in that campsite that has the good cellphone 📱 reception 📶 for working. I got my fishing license tag in the mail today. 🎣 Now if they check I won’t have to pull it up on my phone.
