September 19, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Thursday. Ten weeks until Thanksgiving.๐Ÿฆƒย We are the same distance between now and Thanksgiving, and the First Day of Summer and Labor Day. Sunny and 50 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒž Calm wind. Foggy ๐ŸŒ in the city. As they say, winters coming. It’s only going to get colder. I caught the local to work ๐Ÿš as was running late as I got looking at a map, trying to plan out my vacation. ๐Ÿ‚

I might order a good West Virginia map like a Rand McNally as because the National Forest map I have is excellent but the same can’t be said about the AAA map which covers three states down that way. ๐Ÿ—บย I think I could make my route using that map but a better one on Amazon is like $5 and I might discover things that I would overlook. Regardless, I want this year’s trip to be better planned than last year.

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 71 degrees at 3pm. Typical for today. Calm wind. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 75 degrees. The record high of 90 was set in 1946.

The sun will set at 6:58 pm with dusk around 7:27 pm, which is one minute and 47 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 68 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 12 hours and 19 minutes of daytime, an decrease of 2 minutes and 52 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 44 degrees at 5am. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 3rd. Calm wind. In 2018, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 58 degrees. The record low of 30 occurred back in 1979.

Awesome weekend on tap, with temperatures running 13 degrees above normal. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Saturday, sunny, with a high near 81. Calm wind. Maximum dew point of 61 at 2pm. Sunday, sunny, with a high near 85. Maximum dew point of 58 at 6am. Typical average high for the weekend is 70 degrees.

This evening I’ll head to the store ๐Ÿฌ and get the supplies I need and Big Red gassedย up. โ›ฝ Right after the Pine Bush hike I want to head up to the Adirondacks for a final overnight trip at the potholers. After this, I probably won’t be back to Piseco-Powley Road until next June or July — we will see — but I think with the colder weather coming and the fact that area is prone to lake effect snow.๐ŸŒจ I’d wait until next weekend, but who knows what the weather will be like by next week.

I stillย think it’s pretty neat that OGS agreed to reprogram funds for the combined heat and power plant ๐Ÿ”ณย for solar both on the plaza and in Oneida County. While I’m not a fan of developing more solar farms, it’s good to see the state is putting their money where their mouth is. They have a lot of room for solar at the State Office Campus, if they built over the parking lots and the ring roads. Putting solar over the roads makes a lot of sense in the snow climate we live in — no snow to remove and rain is blocked from motorists windshields.๐Ÿ”

In two weeks, the sun will be setting at 6:34 pm with dusk at 7:02 pm. ๐ŸŒ† On that day in 2018, we had partly sunny, patches of fog and temperatures between 65 and 50 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 65 degrees. We hit a record high of 83 back in 1967.

July 26, 2019 Night

Good evening! Mostly clear and 66 degrees at the Allegheny National Forest. Calm wind. The dew point is 60 degrees. It’s a bit sticky earlier this evening but certainly not oppressive. Now comfortable.

It’s been quite a day but I survived unharmed and saw some beautiful country. I like taking the blue highways but twice this day I got cut off and had to slam on the brakes.๐Ÿ’ฅI also almost got hit in the parking lot at Quaker Lake but fortunately not. I was parked at the time with my engine off so it wouldn’t have been my fault but it could have required a police report ๐Ÿ‘ฎ and body work had it happened. Stupid other kid backing out. I was reminded by Waze that Sugar Run Road was closed so I ended up dwtouring by taking a scenic drive through Allegany State Park – I was going to say I’ve never been through it in the summer – but that’s not true I drove that way in 2017 due to another Penna DOT detour on US 6 and making a wrong turn. But that’s fine I wanted to buy some food for dinner – Then I got lost in Bradford Penna – first looking for a grocery store and then later looking for the road back to the Kinzua Overlook – PA 59. Oh, and I had to back track a bit on Cuba, NY when I realized the old road that I was using to Shunpiking the Southern Tier Expressway was a dead end.

It was a good day though, first starting out at Klipnocky Road in Gas Springs State Forest then taking down the hammock and alternating between the Southern Tier Expressway and other routes that I could find for Shunpiking. ๐Ÿš™ It’s so easy to wile away the hours in the hammock. But I have to admit having phone access most of my trip I’ve not necessarily used my time for productive uses, e.g. reading ๐Ÿ“–. It’s so easy to scroll through Facebook and look at stupid memes. Some neat little historic towns I passed through. I snapped a few quick pictures on the dash cam but I admit I probably should have stopped a bit more and took in the streetscape ๐Ÿ“น before it’s gone or visited more of the local businesses like the Cuba Cheese Store. ๐Ÿ•

I was running a little bit early so I drove up to Little Rock City. ๐Ÿ“ท Not much has changed since I was there in 2013 during my autumn trip out there. ๐ŸThe past two off year trips I’ve shunned Western NY for West Virginia.

I also drove down to Allegany State Park to swim, ๐ŸŠ and the new bath house ๐Ÿ›€ was a dank and smelly as it was last time. The ventilation and drainage of the new bath house had never been right and I miss the vines and natural woods of the old one – the new one looks like standard suburban McMansion crap and the bathrooms while new are gross. The water was cold and not as clear in Quaker Lake as I remembered but that’s probably comparing it to Lake Erie whose water is particularly bad this year with severe blue green algea. ๐Ÿธ But the country driving out there was so beautiful.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 57 degrees at 5am. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around August 31st. That said, I expect it’s always a bit cooler here up in the Allegheny Mountains. Maximum dew point of 60 at 9pm. Calm wind. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies. It became very sticky as the night progressed. It got down to 68 degrees. The record low of 47 occurred back in 1977.

I’m fairly happy with the campsite I have here at the Allegheny National Forest. The Allegheny woods with the mountain laurel and broad canopy above is so much different than the Adirondacks. It’s really unfortunate it’s such a long trip from Albany ๐Ÿ—ป because it’s such beautiful country. I guess for folks who live in Buffalo, it’s just a weekend trip and hardly special but I guess the same can be said about me and the Adirondacks, especially Piseco Powley Road.

Tonight will have a Waning Crescent Moon ๐ŸŒ˜ with 20% illuminated. The moon will rise at 1:28 am. I’m not staying up for it tomorrow. The New Moon is on Tuesday night with a chance of t-storms. The Strugeon Moon ๐ŸŒ is on Wednesday, August 14th. The sun will rise at 6:03 am with the first light at 5:31 am, which is 58 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ Tonight will have 9 hours and 25 minutes of darkness, an increase of one minute and 55 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 81 degrees at 4pm. One degree below normal, which is similar to a typical day around August 10th. So be it, August is just around the corner. Maximum dew point of 60 at 5pm. Southwest wind 3 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 86 degrees. The record high of 97 was set in 1955.

Tomorrow I’m heading back east to outside of Wellsboro where I have a camping permit for the night. โ›บ I want to stop at a few places on the way east, then explore the Pine Creek Gorge. ๐Ÿšถ I’m considering visiting the lumber museum, ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒณ๐ŸŒฒ which is right on the way back and may also check out the completed block glass plaza in the little town whose name escapes me but used to a manufacturing hub for most of glass blocks used in buildings across the country. Maybe Port Allegheny? I’m glad at any rate I’ll be able to break up the long drive home into multiple days as I like to poke around on the back roads and not go too far in any one day๐Ÿš™ . At any rate, tomorrow is the last full day of vacation, Sunday by mid morning the focus will be on heading east on Route 6 then making a bee line for Albany on Interstate 88, so I can get home and unpacked and ready for a certain busy week at work. But I’m fine, it’s been a long time away from home and I’m starting grow tired of the travel.

In four weeks on August 23 the sun will be setting at 8:02 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 36 minutes and 40 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 78 and 58 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 80 and 59 degrees. The record high of 94 degrees was set back in 1947.

Looking ahead, National Dog Day ๐Ÿฉ is a month away, Labor Day Weekend Begins ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿญ is in 5 weeks and Friday the 13th ๐Ÿ‘ฟ is in 7 weeks.

Vanderwhacker Wild Forest

July 12, 2019 Morning

Good morning folks! Y’all know what day today is. Next Friday is when I leave for Summer vacation after work, assuming the weather is decent and I’m ready to go. ๐ŸŠ๐Ÿฟ. Eight nights in the woods, where I make my own rules, have fires and relax. I’d say it’s cloudy, humid and 71 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ Going to warmer as the day progresses. There is a west breeze at 5 mph ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 68 degrees. Perfect weather for the muggers. The skies will clear around 11 am.

Walked down to the express bus ๐Ÿš and the air conditioning sure feels nice. โ„ Not warm enough to turn the fan on in my bedroom but definitely feels a tad bit muggy. ๐Ÿšฆ Hitting all the traffic lights heading downtown today. Traffic also was a bit backed up going through the Empire Plaza, but I’m not in that much of a rush to get to work.

I had lots of black percolator coffee this morning, โ˜• cold because it’s been so warm. It was very strong, and it woke me up right away. I also made waffles up. Of course all that coffee cleared me out well, ๐Ÿšฝ which is probably good for gut health or something like that. I heard that they have fresh local sweet corn, ๐ŸŒฝ and despite the advice from the Internet Gut Doctorโ„ข always advertising, I am looking forward to having some this weekend.

Today will be partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 82 degrees at 3pm. Typical for today. Figures. Maximum dew point of 68 at 9am. Slight drop in the humidity as the day progresses, but still pretty warm come the afternoon.West wind 5 to 15 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 85 degrees. The record high of 96 was set in 1935.

The sun will set at 8:33 pm with dusk around 9:06 pm, which is 32 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 75 degrees. The dew point will be 64 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 10 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 3 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 19 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 63 degrees at 4am. One degree above normal. Maximum dew point of 65 at 6pm. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph. In 2018, we had partly cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 61 degrees. The record low of 45 occurred back in 1939.

Tomorrow will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 88 degrees at 3pm. Five degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 64 at 6pm. West wind around 7 mph. Hot and humid, should be nice out in old Schoharie County. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 88 degrees. The record high of 96 was set in 1894.

The plan is to get a fairly early start tomorrow, head out on NY 990V through the Northern Catskills, pack a lunch, ๐Ÿ›ฃ hike around Mine Kill Falls, then go for a swim for the bulk of the day at Mine Kill Park. Camp overnight somewhere at Burnt-Rossman, then do some fishing and hiking on Sunday, which should be nicer of the two days, at least weather wise. Should be downright pleasant by afternoon, maybe a bit chilly with the breeze and the rapidly dropping humidity. I heard sweet corn is now being sold locally, so I may be buy some and have it with burgers ๐Ÿ” up at camp.

Looking ahead to Sunday, mostly sunny ๐Ÿ˜Ž, with a high near 82. West wind 7 to 15 mph. Maximum dew point of 62 at 6am. Less humid by mid afternoon. Typical average high for the weekend is 83 degrees. Going to be a real nice day, but as I was noting earlier, in the somewhat cooler weather of the Northern Catskills with that breeze, it might be cool swimming.

Tonight I’ll install the replacement burner in the camp stove. ๐Ÿ”ฅ I expect it will work well. For my vacation I’m going to pick up an inexpensive table cloth probably at the dollar store so I don’t have to look at the scratched and patched up camp table and it looks cleaner. I figure it the cheap table cloth doesn’t last it can be burnt and I can get another.

Vacation will be upon my before I know it, โ›บ so I should continue to get ready. That said I don’t expect that I have to do a lot, but if I want to get that camping permit, today is the day to do it. I should see if I can just find the old permit from seven years ago, and have the PA DCNR update it. ๐Ÿ—’ If not, I might just camp more in New York or Allegheny National Forest but I’d like to spend some time in Pennsyltucky.

On this day in 1967, the Newark Riots begin with over six days of rioting, looting, and destruction leaving 26 dead. ๐Ÿ˜ก Fortunately we aren’t worrying about that anymore, everybody’s just talking about immigration. I guess I should be more concerned, but that doesn’t really apply that much to me.

As previously noted, next Friday is Summer Vacation ๐ŸŠ๐Ÿฟ when the sun will be setting at 8:28 pm with dusk at 9:01 pm. On that day in 2018, we had sunny skies, patches of fog and temperatures between 83 and 55 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 83 degrees. We hit a record high of 97 back in 1904.

Feet Up

July 3, 2019 Morning

Good morning! What day is it? Get Away Day before Independence Day, of course. Four weeks to Teeth Cleaning Day ๐Ÿ˜ƒ. I figure that way I’ll remember the appointment. Partly sunny and 68 degrees at the Elm Ave Park & Ride – CDTA. That said, the driver ain’t waiting, she left the station ๐Ÿš‰ a minute early, dropped the hammer ๐Ÿ”จ at the green light ๐Ÿšฆ and has powered through at least one red light. Must be her last trip of the day. Calm wind. The dew point is 64 degrees. Hot and humid.

That said maybe she was flying โœˆ because she knew how bad the traffic would be in the Empire State Plaza. ๐Ÿš•๐Ÿš“๐Ÿš—๐Ÿš๐ŸšŒ Things are so pokey this morning. With the traffic delays going through I’m kind of glad I didn’t drive in, as it’s a lot more fun to be blogging on my phone, sitting on the air conditioned bus then wrangling my way through bumper to bumper traffic. I’m sure I’ll have my share to deal with this afternoon.

Things are packed except for the cooler and the propane but I’ll get those things after work and be off by six or maybe earlier if they close the office down early. ๐Ÿข I expect a slow commute for the first half hour but the air conditioning works well in the truck and it’s not like it gets real dark until like 9:15 pm or later in the Adirondacks this time of year. Google Maps estimates with traffic, I’ll be to Wakely Dam by 8:40. ๐ŸŒ„

I expect it will be a nice weekend at Moose River Plains, but certainly a hot one too. I heard it was going to be buggy, ๐Ÿœso I bought a container of DEET, Picardin and Oil of Eucalyptus insect repellents. All but the Picardin came in plastic spray bottles, which is handy for when they run out — don’t have to save and bring to transfer station. Hopefully that will control the bugs well.

I am bringing the kayak, as one night I’ll probably take it out on Helldiver Pond for some evening fishing and enjoying the sunset. ๐ŸŽฃ I doubt I’ll go out on Cedar River Flow this year, but my mind could change. Or maybe I’ll take it out on one of Chain Lakes or even Moss Lake. I’m thinking of on Saturday doing the Stillwater Firetower — or maybe Sunday, it depends on what the weather looks like come Saturday and how soon the front come through.๐Ÿšถ

Today will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 89 degrees at 4pm. Seven degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 64 at 8am. Light north wind. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. It was humid. The high last year was 94 degrees. The record high of 102 was set in 1911. The real humidity builds on after I’m up in the Adirondacks.

The sun will set at 8:36 pm with dusk around 9:11 pm, which is 13 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 81 degrees. The dew point will be 62 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 15 hours and 13 minutes of daytime, an increase of 48 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 63 degrees at 5am. Two degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 62 at 8pm. Calm wind. In 2018, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It became very sticky as the night progressed. It got down to 71 degrees. The record low of 44 occurred back in 1971.

On this day in 1886, the New-York Tribune becomes the first newspaper to use a linotype machine, ๐Ÿ’ป eliminating typesetting by hand โœ‹. I am pretty sure that like a computer only a little bit more primative. Now they probably use computers but not at Tribune because they don’t exist any more.

Independence Day will be sunny and hot, with a high near 91. โ˜€ Calm wind becoming southeast around 6 mph in the afternoon. Muggy as duck with dew points approaching or exceeding seventy. Even in Pennsylvania you can get a ticket for going that fast. I’m glad I’ll be up in the Adirondacks sipping and ice cold beer. ๐Ÿป I just hope that I won’t run out beer but they probably sell that in Inlet.

Friday starts the dog days of summer. ๐Ÿถ Hot and muggy. Scattered showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. โ˜€ Partly sunny, with a high near 89. South wind 7 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. Summer weather, with the muggers in full force.

Saturday looks pretty unstable but Sunday will be absolutely beautiful. ๐Ÿ˜• Saturday, showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 8am, then showers likely between 8am and noon, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after noon. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 85. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Maximum dew point of 72 at 10am.

Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 82. Maximum dew point of 60 at 6am. Typical average high for the weekend is 82 degrees. Sunday will be really nice, I should try to maximize the most of the day. I might do some hiking on one of the shorter trails along NY 28 south of Old Forge, as that’s the way I plan to come home.

Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until *MY* Teeth Cleaning Day ๐Ÿ˜ƒ when the sun will be setting at 8:16 pm with dusk at 8:48 pm. On that day in 2018, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 86 and 67 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 82 degrees. We hit a record high of 98 back in 1917.

Saturday night

February 20, 2019 Morning

Good morning! What day is it? Hump Day, of course. Three weeks to 7 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ†. Mostly cloudy and 15 degrees in Delmar. โ˜ Calm wind. There are 4.5 inches of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ Things will start to thaw out at tomorrow around 6 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

This morning when I walked down to Stewart’s to buy milk, โ˜•the air had a tinge of manure ๐Ÿฎ and wood smoke on it,๐Ÿ”ฅduring this most cloudy of mornings prior to the snow and ice coming down later. โ˜ I don’t really live in the country any more but on the outskirts of the suburbs as they start to peter out to the countryside.

After getting milk and having a breakfast of frozen fruit๐Ÿ›๐Ÿ’๐ŸŒ and cereal I walked down to the express bus. ๐ŸšŒย I actually didn’t end up needing the milk today, but maybe tomorrow. Bus was running a little late, which was fine, it showed up but then we hit more traffic heading into the plaza. I don’t care that much about it, I’m not driving.

Today will have a chance of snow, mainly after 3pm. Cloudy ๐ŸŒจ, with a high of 28 degrees at 1pm. Eight degrees below normal. Calm wind becoming south 5 to 8 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than one inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny in the morning, which became partly cloudy by afternoon. The high last year was 63 degrees. The record high of 66 was set in 1930. 11.2 inches of snow fell back in 1977.โ„

I’ll take 63 degrees for sure any day now. We are due for a spring thaw anytime๐ŸŒฑ now, maybe a bit later this week although I doubt we will see the sixties anytime soon. But one can hope and maybe God will listen. Trump doesn’t believe in global warming after all.ย But winters aren’t nearly as cold as once where.

Looking forward to the Pine Bush dinner tonight,๐Ÿ it should be really good with the lasagna and Ward Stone speaking. ๐ŸŽค He’s getting up there in the years, so who knows how many opportunities there will be able to hear him in the coming years. He’s an authority on many things, especially things that the state government finds particularly unpleasant like the Coeymans Blue Circle Plant, that was poisoning everything nearby with mercury, at least until they “fixed” the plant with a big upgrade.๐Ÿญ Blue Circle Cement, later known as LaFarge, was built because Governor Thomas Dewey gave them a big tax break to build the non-union plant, to break the cement strike in New York. But we don’t talk about the history anymore.

But actually, Ward Stone is coming to talk about another state proposal, re-powering the old ANSWERS incinerator to work as a micro-grid power plant,ย that will burn natural gas for generations to come, as the climate warms,ย ย ๐ŸŒย to heat and cool the Empire Plaza and other state office buildings, and also generate electricity for the buildings, as an alternative to grid power — and act as a “jump start pack” for the electric grid, which may become more unstableย ๐Ÿ”Œย both when the climate becomes more unstable and more renewables are put on it.

Times change, and sometimes opportunities that once existed suddenly. So definitely come to the Pine Bush dinner, before it’s late.ย ๐Ÿฝ ย 6 PM tonight is the dinner, 7 PM is the free lecture. I think the dinner costs like $12 but I usually end up throwing in $15 or $20 for it.ย  Should be a great evening.

The sun will set at 5:34 pm with dusk around 6:02 pm, which is one minute and 16 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for snow showers ๐ŸŒจ and temperatures around 27 degrees. There will be a south-southeast breeze at 8 mph. Today will have 10 hours and 50 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 46 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be periods of snow and sleet before 11pm, then periods of sleet between 11pm and midnight, then periods of freezing rain after midnight. ๐ŸŒง Low of 26 degrees at 6pm. Sounds like it could be pretty icy later. Well the bus will get me home from the Pine Bush dinner so I’m not that worried about it. Seven degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 16th. South wind around 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New ice accumulation of less than a 0.1 of an inch possible. New snow and sleet accumulation of less than one inch possible. In 2018, we had mostly clear in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 40 degrees. The record low of -10 occurred back in 2015.

Tomorrow will have a chance of rain and sleet before 7am, then a chance of rain between 7am and 10am. Partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 47 degrees at 2pm. 11 degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical day around March 22nd. Breezy, with a south wind 6 to 11 mph becoming west 17 to 22 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 34 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Little or no sleet accumulation expected. Not sure if tomorrow I’ll be walking down to the Park and Ride. A year ago, we had mostly sunny in the morning, which became partly cloudy by afternoon. The high last year was 73 degrees. The record high of 73 was set in 2018. 11.0 inches of snow fell back in 1929.โ„

Last night’s commute wasn’t too bad.ย ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿš—๐Ÿš—๐Ÿšƒ๐ŸšŒ๐Ÿš๐Ÿš’๐Ÿšš๐Ÿš›ย Traffic actually was pretty light due to the holiday weekend.ย I thought about cooking up some pasta for dinner, but decided on fish sticks and broccoli, as I wanted something different, as tonight is the Save the Pine Bush Dinner.ย ๐ŸŸย Laid back for a while, ate dinner, then hopped on the exercise bike.ย Really wasn’t that hungry,

Then I thought about going down to the library but decided that it would be a would be nice to go for a walk in the evening around 8 pm. ๐ŸšถIn the meantime I decided to ride the exercise bike for an hour while listening to Fresh Air podcast with Andrew McCabe formerly of the FBI and then a video about about Core Memory. ๐ŸŽงย I heard it first on the radio starting, but put on the podcast, so I could listen over my bluetooth headphones while on the bike. I’ll have to ask my neighbor if he can hear the rumble of the bike the next time I see him, but I try not to ride the bike much after 8:30 most nights.

Around 8:30 I went for my evening walk under the beautiful snow moon. ๐ŸŒ• No problem walking in the darkness, plenty of light and the sidewalks were free of ice and snow for the most part. Pretty night but fairly cold but at least the wind had died down. ๐Ÿƒย It was cold, but not that cold.ย That said, I’m certainly looking forward to nicer weather, sitting out back with a cold glass of orange juiceย ๐ŸŠ or maybe ice water with a drop of lemon juice in it.๐Ÿ‹

Came home and laid in bed watching a few YouTube videos๐ŸŽฅ I had previously downloaded, one about thermal storage of heat, ๐Ÿ”ฅย one about stocking rate of cattle on ranches, ๐Ÿฎand one about off grid living. Then I took my contacts out and retired for the night. ๐Ÿ‘I do like how the lights automatically remind me when it’s time for bed, automatically dimming at 10:10 pm๐Ÿ˜ด.ย It really helps when you get to bed at a proper hour for boosting your sleep.ย I always try to bed down by the time the lights start dimming at 10:10 pm. It really is a good reminder.

I am definitely looking forward to those longer nights in a month with dusk not being until after 7:30 pm๐Ÿ•— and hopefully for some warmer nights when I can sit out back, looking up at the stars. โœจย Usually I work on a blog post out back in the warmer weather, although now that I’ve built a system for downloading videos, I might actually watch one of the videos from the channels I’ve downloaded. Honestly, I’m not a big fan of staring at a screen, but I listen to them, and are learning a lot about many different topics, expanding my knowledge and hopefully my future.

Right now, a split verdict on the weekend. ๐Ÿ˜• Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 41. Sunday, rain likely before 1pm, then showers likely, mainly after 4pm. Cloudy, with a high near 48. Chance of precipitation is 70%. Typical average high for the weekend is 37 degrees.

NOAA seems to think this weekend will be quite sunny, at least for the Save the Pine Bush hike.ย I am not sure I totally agree, but it will be mild for the ski trip. ๐ŸŽฟI know Sunday still looks to be quite wet, which looks like it will melt the snow, hopefully melting it away the rain and not turning to ice. I am a bit worried about ice again, so if your joining us, bring your microspikes. Skis might not work well.

As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until 7 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ† with dusk at 7:27 pm (Daylight Savings Time). On that day in 2018, we had snow and temperatures between 34 and 30 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 43 degrees. We hit a record high of 70 back in 2012.

In four weeks on March 20 the sun will be setting at 7:07 pm (Daylight Savings Time),๐ŸŒ„ which is one hour, 33 minutes and 49 seconds later then today. Setting Sun

December 4, 2018 Evening

Good evening! Four weeks from now will be the New Year. Mostly clear at the freezing point in Delmar. There is a northwest breeze at 13 mph. 🍃. Cold day tomorrow, things will only start to thaw out at tomorrow around 1 pm. 🌡๏ธ I guess it was cold tonight but then again the bus was early and I barely caught it. 🚌

Tonight will be mostly clear 🌃, with a low of 17 degrees at 5am. Eight degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical night around December 27th. I guess late December isn’t that far away. Maximum wind chill around 20 at 12am; Northwest wind 6 to 11 mph becoming light in the evening. In 2017, we had mist in the evening, remaining overcast into the early morning. It got down to 39 degrees. The record low of 2 occurred back in 1989. I did turn the heat up a bit when I got home.

Tonight will have a Waning Crescent Moon 🌘 with 5% illuminated. The moon will rise at 5:10 am. The New Moon is on Thursday night with mostly cloudy skies. The Cold Moon 🌝 is on Friday, December 21st. The sun will rise at 7:09 am with the first light at 6:37 am, which is one minute later than yesterday. 🌄 Tonight will have 14 hours and 48 minutes of darkness, an increase of one minute and 9 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have increasing clouds โ˜, with a high of 33 degrees at 2pm. Seven degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical day around December 23rd. Although it seems like lately it’s been warmer around Christmas. Calm wind. A year ago, we had freezing fog in the morning, which became mist by afternoon. The high last year was 53 degrees. The record high of 65 was set in 2001. 9 inches of snow fell back in 1902.โ„

Remarkably pleasant morning for walking down to the express bus. Crisp but with proper dress it’s quite delightful with all that sun. 🌄Good thing I walked down to the Park and Ride as not only was it a nice walk I was the only one who boarded the 8:26 to downtown. Earlier buses are much more popular. 🚌

Lunchtime I walked on the plaza 🏃which was nice but cold. But I like the fresh air and the blue skies for a change, it gets tiresome looking at the same things over and over again doing laps inside the Empire State Plaza. I guess if I really wanted to get my heart pumping I’d climb the million dollar staircase in the Capital. It won’t be long before doing lapse in the concourse becomes difficult, with State of the State protestors.โœŠ

Cool this weekend with temperatures running 7 degrees below normal but otherwise sunny. ๐Ÿ˜€ Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 30. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 32. Typical average high for the weekend is 38 degrees. Then quite possibly a warming trend for the next week with lots of sun.

It looks like most of next week should be sunny and relatively nice out in the Finger Lakes. Seasonal temperatures which means cold but snow free and they don’t have a lot of snow out there. 🌞 I am off next week to finally do my November camping trip. โ›บ Granted it’s now December but the weather looks nice. Maybe 10 degrees colder, 10 minutes earlier sunset but either side of the deer regular hunting season is about the same.

November 30, 2018 Evening

Happy Weekend! Snow showers and 33 degrees in Delmar. โ„ Calm wind. The air remarkably chilly, seems like there is a lot of moisture in the air. The bus was a few minutes late. Temperatures will drop below freezing at around 6 pm. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Well, another week has come and gone as has another month. 📆Creeping further into the future, it strikes me hard to believe in a little over a year we will seriously be talking about 2020.🎇 Tomorrow is December, but I have both the proper registration and inspection stickers on the truck now. A CD matured today, I added enough to double it then reinvested it at a higher rate. One step closer to owning land and being off grid. 🏡 Those days are a ways off, but I know with careful planning I can get there just like I did buying my truck and college education with cash. Just takes time. โณ

I think it was a good week, a lot was accomplished during those days. 💼 One week closer to warmer days and the snow melting away, one more day closer to my future. I went for another lunch hour long walk around the plaza. I’m getting to know the ins and outs of the various hallways I can do in the plaza,to mix things on up. No lights in my office yet but I followed up with some people. I think now it will get fixed. :idea:I like my job, especially statistical analysis part of the work and seeing communication ideas become reality.

Tonight will have a slight chance of rain and snow before 7pm, then a slight chance of snow between 7pm and 8pm. Mostly cloudy 🌧, with a low of 27 degrees at 1am. Typical for tonight. Calm wind. Looking ahead to Sunday, rain, mainly before 1pm. 💦 High near 45. Southeast wind 3 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. Doesn’t sound like it will be super wet during the day time hours but night will rain a lot, probably killing off some of the snow in places. Typical average high for the weekend is 41 degrees.

Traffic is moving fairly well heading out of the city tonight. 🚌I’m glad, as I’m tired and looking forward to getting home. I think I’ll cook up some dinner, maybe work on some projects and retire to bed quite early.

Saturday looks quite nice, maybe a bit brisk but sunny for a change. 😎 Rain though Sunday night so I doubt I’ll head out to the wilderness for an overnight. One possibility is hiking out to Five Rivers or I might go to Schodack Island State Park and combine that trip with my weekly shop. I don’t need a lot of food and supplies but a few little things. Figure I should save gas however possible. Rainy and cloudy but fairly mild Sunday.

I was looking at the past snow accumulation maps for December 1st,โ„ and this has in many parts of the state been the snowest start to the month in fifthteen years. Usually November is not nearly as white or as cold.

That said, it’s increasingly looking nice for next week. I may take a few days off, might even spend a few nights in the wilderness.🌲 It all depends on the weather and what I feel up to doing.
