Good evening! Cold, cloudy, windy around 20 degrees at the One Commerce Plaza but feels much colder waiting for the bus. โ„ There is a west-northwest breeze at 14 mph. 🍃. The current wind chill is 7. There are 4 inches of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธThings will start to thaw out at Sunday around 11 am. 🌡๏ธ

The Pine Bush Dinner 🌲 was good but I started feeling so exhausted and achy by the end of it. 😴 Maybe it just was the thought of waiting outside for the bus in the cold around 9 pm. So I left early. It’s not like I haven’t heard the same old music 🎶 acts before, after 15 years or more of involvement the holiday parties all start to seem alike. Cavagahan’s granddaughter is a very talented folk singer. 🎸 I sure hope that the Lyme isn’t coming back, making me sick – I feel so awful by the end of the evening. 🐜 Only have a day or two of the doxycycline left and then if I sicker after the holidays I’ll have to visit my doctor 😷 again.

Once I get home I’ll probably take my doxycycline 💊 and I will probably retire to bed. I’m hoping after some sleep I’ll be feeling better. I left the heat turned up before I left for work so I expect it should be comfortable and warm when I get home. 🏡 I’m glad the doxycycline is almost done, as it’s a pain to remember even if it no longer makes me feel sick in the morning.

Tonight will have a slight chance of snow showers before 1am. Partly cloudy 🌧, with a low of 5 degrees at 6am. 15 degrees below normal. Maximum wind chill around -10 at 6am; Northwest wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 16 degrees. The record low of -13 occurred back in 1973.

Tonight will have a Waning Crescent Moon 🌘 with 39% illuminated with the moon rising at 11:40 pm. The moon will rise at 12:00 am. The New Moon is next Wednesday. The is on Wednesday night. The sun will rise at 7:20 am with the first light at 6:47 am, which is 39 seconds later than yesterday. 🌄 Tonight will have 14 hours and 57 minutes of darkness, an increase of 15 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be sunny 🌞, with a high of 18 degrees at 2pm. 17 degrees below normal. Maximum wind chill around -10 at 6am; Northwest wind 11 to 14 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 37 degrees. The record high of 54 was set in 1895. 7.8 inches of snow fell back in 2008.โ„

A bitterly cold โ„ day tomorrow. Not sure if I’m going to walk down to the express bus 🚍 or take the local in. I really do like the walk but not if that wind is really biting like tonight.

I ordered an USB 18650 battery 🔋 charger on Amazon today and are going to pick up an extra pair of batteries to use with my LED lantern 🏮 mom and dad are getting me for Christmas. I probably eventually will also get an 18650 based LED flashlight though my existing ones work fine and truth is I could use ordinary NiMH rechargable batteries in my existing flashlights too.

I am looking forward to my camping trip in two weeks โ›บ but I wonder how muddy it will be. It might be above freezing in the day time which might mean not a lot of snow but a lot of mud. I’m still thinking about the Finger Lakes National Forest but if it looks like I’ll only be able to camp for three nights due to the weather I might stay somewhere closer to home.

I do need to test my propane camp lantern 🏮 that I cleaned this weekend. I’m thinking it will work well now but I haven’t hooked up mantles or tried it out. I’m trying to figure out what I can hang it from to test it out back, not sure if I have a good place near my apartment to string a rope. I’ve thought about getting one of those lantern posts that people use but I’ve heard their unstable especially when the tank is near empty and often break or bend when dropped.

I have to reorder my contact lens 👀 online. My prescription is probably expired, actually it is but I know they don’t actually stop you from buying it online. I would have ordered them last summer when I had a valid script but I knew worse comes to worse my insurance now partially pays for yearly exams for contacts. That said, I hate going to my eye doctor, they’re jerks, always trying to upsell you and charge you for extras. 👓 I’m sure they work on a commission and low profit margins but the local place I usually go to is the absolute worse. I’ve been to other eye places but both of them have subsequently closed.

I often think some of the zero waste โ™ป stuff is kind of silly but I guess it’s probably good behavior if you live in a city and are an urbanite. I’d rather focus on plainly consuming less, dumping the occasional apple core in with the gut pile or manure pile 💩 on my land, burn the majority of whatever I buy that is packaged 🔥 and recycle the cans and glass as a last resort. โ™ป I want to use wood for heat and a minimal solar system for small electrical loads and a few lights but nothing big and fancy. I guess I’m not into saving the earth 🌎 but doing what is right for myself and my land. I want to see wild land remain wild 🐺 and not turned into luxury parks for the ulta wealth. I don’t see much difference in what the zero waste folks are proposing and overall waste generation 🚮 – they’re not willing to attack consumerism, take out food 🍲 or waste more generally in our lives. As it stands right now, I buy a lot in bulk and a lot of frozen fruit and vegetables do my actual food waste is minuscule and most of the plastic wrappers probably get burnt or something like that. 🔥

In four weeks on January 15 the sun will be setting at 4:46 pm,🌄 which is 23 minutes and 5 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had mostly cloudy skies, some snow showers and temperatures between 33 and 10 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 30 and 14 degrees. The record high of 65 degrees was set back in 1995.

Looking ahead, Bubble Bath Day 🧼 is in 3 weeks, National Bird Day 🐦 is in 4 weeks, Winnie the Pooh Day 🍯 is a month away, 37th Birthday 🎉 is in 6 weeks, National Drink Wine Day 🍷 is in 2 months, Average High is 40 โ˜€๏ธ is in 11 weeks, April Fools Day 🤡 is in 15 weeks, Pink Moon 🌕 is in 16 weeks, Tax Day 💰 is in 17 weeks, Average High is 60 🌼 is in 4 months, Earth Day 🌎 is in 18 weeks, Flower Moon 🌕 is in 5 months and Inauguration Day 2021 👴🏻 is in 57 weeks.

Ice Pattern

December 18, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Save the Pine Bush Dinner Day! ๐Ÿ˜‹ It should as always be a good dinner at the Westminster Presbyterian Church downtown at 6 PM. It’s also Bake Cookies Day ๐Ÿช! Cookies are good but I don’t believe in having them at home because they’re unhealthy and unnecessary expense. I do sometimes have them at camp or at parties, they’re great when they’re fresh out of a camp oven. Next Wednesday is Christmas ๐ŸŽ…. I do find that a bit hard to believe, but honestly I’m more excited about the following Saturday and heading out to the Finger Lakes to camp.๐Ÿ• Clear and sunny, bright around 27 degrees in Delmar, NY.ย ๐ŸŒž There is a west-southwest breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. There are 4 inches of fresh and very white snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ Made for a rather bright walk down to the express bus, almost wish I had sunglasses. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Going to be a cold one the next few days — tThings will start to thaw out at Sunday around noontime but I’m hoping the sun and wind will help melt things away even when its below freezing. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

It was a bit of an icy walk down to the express bus ๐Ÿš but I left in plenty of time to get there in time โŒš. The sidewalks weren’t bad but they were a bit slippery in parts. I ended up walking on the shoulder the last bit so I wasn’t slip sliding my way all the way down there, as I wouldn’t want to slip and walking in the snow is annoying. So bright though with the sun and gleaming sun — it seems dark in contrast on the bus.โ˜€ While it’s going to be cold today, I’m hoping with the sun and the wind, and some salt the sidewalks will be good by tomorrow although it might be too cold to walk down to the express tomorrow. That said, they’re have been negative 15 days when I’ve walked down to the express bus int he past. Winter is here, for a little while, but I expect a warm up by next week with the latest forecast.โ™จ

Today will have a chance of snow showers, mainly after noon. Some of the snow squalls could be heavy at times, leading to white out conditions and very dangerous travel conditions. Weatherman says check the radar before you get on the expressway. Clear going this morning into work, and hopefully it won’t impact my commute home after the Pine Bush Dinner. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 31 degrees at 12pm. Four degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical Southwest wind 6 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 30 degrees. The record high of 60 was set in 1921. 17 inches of snow fell back in 1887.โ„

The sun will set at 4:23 pm with dusk around 4:55 pm, which is 20 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, watch out for snow squallsย  ๐ŸŒจ and falling temperatures around 27 degrees. The wind chill around sunset will be 15. โ˜ƒ๏ธ There will be a west-northwest breeze at 15 mph with gusts up to 25mph. Today will have 9 hours and 3 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 18 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a chance of snow showers, mainly before 11pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 5 degrees at 5am. 15 degrees below normal. Maximum wind chill around -8 at 2am; Northwest wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chilly night ahead, I left the heat turned up a bit so it won’t be too cold. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 16 degrees. The record low of -13 occurred back in 1973.

Project SCORE, the world’s first communications satellite, is launched today in 1958. ๐Ÿ“ก Still an important communication technology, although the lag between sending and receiving, and the limits on bandwidth mean that for most communications people use fiber optics these days. I guess some rural households use satellite dishes for television reception and internet, but from what I’ve heard it’s hardly ideal due to the long lags in the signal. ๐Ÿ“ถ

It looks like the weekend has improved somewhat in recent forecasts, especially on the second half of the weekend. ๐ŸŒค Saturday, mostly cloudy, with a high near 28. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 37. Typical average high for the weekend is 34 degrees.

So as I noted last night, I’m planning on staying in town this weekend. I want to get that voltage switch set up, and I don’t know how busy I will be Saturday after the Pine Bush Hike ๐Ÿšถ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒณ for some filming for the Reszin Adams.๐Ÿ“ฝ It’s going to still be fairly cold, and the following weekend looks increasingly nice, if it’s not too cloudy and muddy. Might actually have some rain a week from Friday, followed by several days above freezing, which could be problematic, in the sense that the woods might turn all to mud.

I think I will mount the voltage switch in the back next to the inverter and tap power off the the line that goes up to the USB charging ports I have back there, as I have both positive and negative there to tap into easily. ๐Ÿ”˜ From there I will run the positive output of the voltage switch to a diode to protect the voltage switch from any induced current spikes when the relay closes. ๐Ÿ”„ While I’m not sure if this is totally necessary, a few years back I tried to build a relay position indicator with LEDs, and I kept blowing LEDs out when I would switch it on and off a few times due to current spikes (any magnet will create a reverse electrical spike when current is broken, e.g. inductance). ๐ŸงฒFrom the diode, I’ll run an “exciter” line to the switch that currently turns on when the engine is on, and hook another diode between the engine input and output so I don’t back-feed current and accidentally turn on the CB radio and dash cam when the solar panel comes on.

Looking ahead, there are 3 weeks until Bubble Bath Day ๐Ÿงผ when the sun will be setting at 4:38 pm with dusk at 5:10 pm. On that day in 2019, we had cloudy, mild, rain showers and temperatures between 41 and 29 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 30 degrees. We hit a record high of 60 back in 2008.

November 29, 2019 8 PM Update

Good evening! Partly clear and 30 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a north-northwest breeze at 7 mph. 🍃. Things will start to thaw out at tomorrow around noontime. 🌡๏ธ

Chilly night out. โ„ Much colder up north I’m sure. The nights are kind of long this time of the year and I’d probably have retired to the tent pretty early due the cold and because the heater is so nice and warm in the tent. Never made it to the store 🏬 today but did to the library on this But Nothing Day.

I’ve probably put two hours on the excerise bike today so I’ve gotten my exercise for the day. 🚲 One of the pedals fell off and I was concerned that the threads were getting stripped but it seems to be working well. But it’s been a pretty cold and gray day. โ˜

I did walk down to the library and got the new version of the blog push forward. This template is built in a simple way that should be easy to maintain going forward, and hopefully be somewhat faster loading and more reliable with some stylish features and a better index and layout. โœ’ Now I just have to come up with some new content. I just have to find data to download and map. Maybe Sunday. I also got some books out to read. 📙

Tonight will be mostly clear 🌃, with a low of 20 degrees at 6am. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around December 18th. Maximum wind chill around 13 at 6am; Northwest wind 5 to 7 mph. Chilly. In 2018, we had clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 18 degrees. The record low of -10 occurred back in 1875.

Tonight will have a Waxing Crescent Moon 🌒 with 21% illuminated. The moon will rise at 10:48 am. The First Quarter Moon is on Tuesday night with mostly cloudy skies. The Cold Moon 🌝 is on Wednesday, December 11th. Next weekend if I decide to go north, the moonlight might be nice on the snow if it’s not too deep. Tomorrow, the sun will rise at 7:03 am with the first light at 6:32 am, which is one minute and 7 seconds later than yesterday. 🌄 Haven’t you noticed how dark the mornings really are? Tonight will have 14 hours and 40 minutes of darkness, an increase of one minute and 31 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be sunny 🌞, with a high of 33 degrees at 1pm. Nine degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around December 23rd. Northwest wind 5 to 7 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 45 degrees. The record high of 67 was set in 1933. 7.1 inches of snow fell back in 1972.โ„

It looks like we might have upwards of a foot of snow โ›„ come Monday with the snow starting on Sunday. I can’t believe already I have to think about my winter parking location. I might throw a tarp over the roof of the truck again for easy snow removal once it stops. I like to keep the solar panel clean so it keeps the battery topped off during the week.

In four weeks on December 27 the sun will be setting at 4:28 pm,🌄 which is 4 minutes and 28 seconds later then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had cold weather, mostly sunny and temperatures between 17 and -4 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 32 and 17 degrees. The record high of 60 degrees was set back in 1895.

Looking ahead, Saint Nicholas Day 🎅 is in 1 weeks, Latest Sunrise of the Winter 🌄๏ธ is in 5 weeks and 37th Birthday 🎉 is in 2 months.

Looking Down Into the Gorge

Clearing Out

It's 10 AM and it's clearing out quite nicely as I continue up Alander Mountain.

Taken on Sunday September 13, 2009 at Alander Mountain.

September 18, 2019 Night

Good evening! Clear and 53 degrees at the Delmar. ๐ŸŒŸ Calm wind. Going to be a cold night. I thought about closing my windows but the heat is off and it’s not expected to get below freezing in Albany. I’ll just enjoy the hot coffee โ˜• come morning.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 42 degrees at 5am. Eight degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 8th. Calm wind. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It was somewhat humid. It got down to 60 degrees. The record low of 32 occurred back in 1959.

Tonight will have a Waning Gibbous Moon ๐ŸŒ– with 70% illuminated. The moon will set at 11:46 am. The Last Quarter Moon is on Friday night. The Hunter Moon ๐ŸŒ is on Saturday, October 12th. The sun will rise at 6:38 am with the first light at 6:09 am, which is one minute and 5 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ Tonight will have 11 hours and 38 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 51 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have patchy fog before 8am. Otherwise, sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 71 degrees at 3pm. Typical for tomorrow. Calm wind. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. It was sticky. The high last year was 75 degrees. The record high of 90 was set in 1946.

Doug Bullock’s Speech to Save the Pine Bush was quite good. ๐Ÿ“ข No bull horn this time. He will be missed in the county legislature – he’s still on the Working Families line but I think most people know it’s time to move on. He can continue his activism in new ways. I helped him out on his first campaign 12 years ago but the democrats in his district apparently wanted a change – and his progressive advocacy never won him much in the way of corporate contributions.๐ŸŒฒI don’t agree with Doug on every issue but he’s a good guy in politics, for all the right reasons. โœŠ

So it looks like the proposal to re-power the ANSWERS plant and generate electricity is officially dead. ๐Ÿญ They’re going to tear it down instead build more solar on the plaza and in Oneida County and replace more of the lighting with solid state fixtures. It was so weird that they announced it during the Save the Pine Bush Dinner ๐Ÿ“ข while Doug Bullock was speaking a two days before the climate march. Doug has been very vocal about opposing the plans as has the folks in PAUSE and the No Fracked Gas pipeline people. ๐ŸŒŽ At this point, we really shouldn’t be investing in more fossil infrastructure and the truth is that they didn’t really need the co-generation plant – it was wish list type thing ๐Ÿ“ƒ. Can they build the hundreds of acres of solar needed to go 100% solar for the Plaza? Only time will tell. A hundred million dollars once allocated to build the co-generation plant ๐Ÿ’ต can buy a lot of panels. I do wonder though about outsourcing the panels to Oneida County.

I probably would have been involved with Doug’s campaign but I don’t get involved in politics much any more. ๐Ÿค Some of its my work takes a lot of my time but also I’m less interested in politics than in years past. I’m more interested in self improvement and investing in my own future. ๐Ÿ’ฐ Those who fight the good fight are doing God’s work but I don’t want to be part of the messy nature of politics. I just want to buffer myself from the harm of climate change and eventually own my own land out in the country in a freer state. ๐Ÿท

In four weeks on October 16 the sun will be setting at 6:12 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 48 minutes and 27 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 56 and 36 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 60 and 39 degrees. The record high of 88 degrees was set back in 1947.

Tomorrow evening I’ll run to the store and get a camp chair, and maybe boots ๐Ÿ‘ข and get packed up for the weekend. I plan to head north as soon as the Pine Bush hike is over on Saturday. Should be a really nice evening.

I’ve gotten a few maps and done some more research ๐Ÿ—พ on the New River Gorge. Most of the other places in West Virginia I’m quite familiar with so I don’t expect to need much research but I did also get a map for hiking Dolly Sods. I got to get out my big West Virginia Monongahela National Forest map – I think I know where it is in the crawl space – and do some more planning. I have one of those free maps from AAA of West Virginia Roads outside of the National Forest but I’m thinking about getting a better quality Rand McNally map too for better details. This year’s trip I want better planned then in 2017 which was kind of a mess as I was dealing with my mom being in the hospital ๐Ÿฅ.

Looking ahead, More Night then Day ๐ŸŒŒ is in 1 weeks, Average High is 65 ๐Ÿ‚ is in 2 weeks, Day After Election Day ๐Ÿ›€ is in 7 weeks, Average Night Below Freezing ๐ŸŒŒ is in 8 weeks, Average High is 40 ๐ŸŒจ is in 11 weeks, Christmas ๐ŸŽ… is in 14 weeks, New Years Day 2019 ๐ŸŽ‰ is in 15 weeks, National Bird Day ๐Ÿฆ is in 17 weeks, Winnie the Pooh Day ๐Ÿฏ is in 4 months, 37th Birthday ๐ŸŽ‰ is in 19 weeks and Inauguration Day 2021 ๐Ÿ‘ด๐Ÿป is in 70 weeks.

 Out Onto The River

September 18, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy 7 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ†! Next Wednesday has More Night then Day ๐Ÿ€ผ๓“€ฎ Winters coming. By for now, mostly sunny and 49 degrees at the Elm Ave Park & Ride – CDTA. Calm wind. โ˜€ Not a bad autumn morning, a few hints of color in the city. Enjoyed my walk ๐Ÿšถ down to the express bus ๐Ÿš.

Tonight is the Save the Pine Bush Dinner ๐Ÿฒ and it should be a good one. County Legislator Doug Bullock will be speaking. 6 pm at the West Presbyterian Church โ›ช downtown. Bird ๐Ÿฆ Hike is on Saturday at 8 am.

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 71 degrees at 3pm. Typical for today. Maximum dew point of 47 at 10am. Calm wind becoming north 5 to 9 mph in the afternoon. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. It was sticky. The high last year was 84 degrees. The record high of 91 was set in 1891.

The sun will set at 7:00 pm with dusk around 7:28 pm, which is one minute and 48 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 62 degrees. There will be a north-northeast breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 12 hours and 22 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 52 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 43 degrees at 5am. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 5th. Light and variable wind. Almost warrants closing my windows before bed but if it’s cold in my apartment come morning I’ll just have a hot cup of coffee. โ˜• 2018, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It was somewhat humid. It got down to 60 degrees. The record low of 32 occurred back in 1959.

Awesome weekend on tap, with temperatures running 12 degrees above normal. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Saturday, sunny, with a high near 81. Maximum dew point of 61 at 4pm. Sunday, sunny, with a high near 84. Maximum dew point of 60 at 1pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 70 degrees.

It should be a great weekend for the Pine Bush Hike ๐ŸŒฒand a visit to the potholers. Only going away for one day this weekend but I might go away for two nights if the weather is good next weekend. The following weekend it’s down to West Virginia ๐Ÿ‚ for my road trip.

I think this weekend I’ll need to replace my boots ๐Ÿ‘ข as now they are really falling apart. I might do that on Thursday evening and maybe also get a new camp chair plus food for camping on Saturday. ๐Ÿฃ

As previously noted, next Wednesday is More Night then Day ๐ŸŒŒ when the sun will be setting at 6:48 pm with dusk at 7:16 pm. On that day in 2018, we had rain and temperatures between 63 and 51 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 68 degrees. We hit a record high of 91 back in 2017.

Earlier today I posted a graph of the sunset ๐ŸŒ‡ times. ๐Ÿ“Š Definitely every evening now when I leave work the sun angle has dropped dramatically. At least this year with my autumn road trip planned a week earlier then normal, the nights will be a little longer. But I still expect most mornings on vacation to be getting up before dawn so I can fully enjoy the day before I have to return to camp before darkness. ๐ŸŒƒ Coffee โ˜• at camp โ›บ is always good on a cold morning.

Muskrat Creek

August 16, 2019 8 AM Update

Good morning! Yeah, it’s Friday! Two weeks to Labor Day Weekend Begins ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿญ. Cloudy, humid and 65 degrees at the Elm Ave Park & Ride – CDTA. โ˜ There is a south-southeast breeze at 9 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 62 degrees. I’m kind of dripping from the sweat ๐Ÿ˜ฐ walking down to the express bus. The skies will clear Sunday around 7 pm.

I went to bed early last night and got up early today ๐ŸŒ… thinking I would finish packing and then hit up the grocery store and then head to the Adirondacks after work. ๐Ÿ’ญ Looking at the forecast this morning I changed my mind as Saturday doesn’t look great up north so instead I think I will get up early tomorrow and head north.

That way I’ll only be gone three nights so I expect the ice will last and I won’t have to worry about moving my campsite after three nights. โ›บ I don’t expect a lot of people up north tomorrow being it expected to be cloudy and mid August when few people vacation. This way too I can head up on Saturday morning when traffic is light, not have to set up gear in the darkness or buy firewood. Money is a bit tight so everywhere I can save a few bucks it helps.

It will be four days at the potholers through Tuesday cooling off ๐Ÿ˜Ž. Should be nice to lay back on the hammock with a cold one and a book ๐Ÿ“™ and be off the grid for a few days. Have nice fires every night ๐Ÿ”ฅ, listen to music ๐ŸŽถ as loud as I want, maybe set up targets and shoot guns. ๐ŸŽฏ Basically just get away from it for a few days.

Today will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 1pm. Partly sunny โ›… , with a high of 82 degrees at 3pm. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical day around August 9th. Maximum dew point of 69 at 3pm. South wind around 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. It was sticky. The high last year was 88 degrees. The record high of 97 was set in 1936.

The sun will set at 7:55 pm with dusk around 8:25 pm, which is one minute and 30 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for thunderstorms ๐ŸŒฉ and temperatures around 79 degrees. The dew point will be 68 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 9 mph. Today will have 13 hours and 51 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 35 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 68 degrees at 5am. Eight degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 69 at 6pm. South wind around 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became light rain by the early hours of the morning. It was very sticky. It got down to 69 degrees. The record low of 40 occurred back in 1979.

Today in 1916, the Migratory Bird Treaty between Canada and the United States signed. ๐Ÿฆ It was designed to save Migratory Birds by giving them international protection for the first time by placing limits on hunting and other means of taking. Gotta buy your duck stamp if your hunting migratory birds.

In 1989, a solar flare from the Sun creates a geomagnetic storm that affects micro chips,โ˜€ leading to a halt of all trading on Toronto’s stock market. I notice with my display that I built in my bedroom, sometimes in humid weather I have a lot of errors, although in the winter I have less. Not sure if that’s humidity causing shorts and bad connections or if its the lack of shielding on the wires.

Also, in 1993, Debian Linux is announced, it would become the basis of many forms of Linux like Ubuntu Linux, ๐Ÿ’ป which is currently what I run on my home computer.

And in 1966, the House Un-American Activities Committee begins investigations of Americans who have aided the Viet Cong. ๐Ÿ‘บThe committee intends to introduce legislation making these activities illegal. Anti-war demonstrators disrupt the meeting and 50 people are arrested.

Tomorrow will have a chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after noon. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 82 degrees at 3pm. The plan is next weekend to stay in town. ๐Ÿก But this weekend I’ll head north. I might take the Friday off before Memorial Day Weekend, although it depends if I can get coverage for my clients at work. I also want to take some time off in September and October plus the week before Columbus Day off. Labor Day Weekend I was originally planning on Piseco-Powley Road, but maybe I’ll do what I did last year with that campsite I really like on Jessup River Road or maybe I’ll head back to Vermont. Depends on the forecast.๐Ÿ•

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Labor Day Weekend Begins ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿญ when the sun will be setting at 7:32 pm with dusk at 8:01 pm. On that day in 2018, we had humid, partly sunny and temperatures between 82 and 62 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 78 degrees. We hit a record high of 98 back in 1953.
