May 13, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. Two weeks to Memorial Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ. Despite the cold and wet spring, making farmers and everybody else life miserable summer is coming. Cloudy, damp and 44 degrees in the land of the Delmaritian. โ˜ There is a east-southeast breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Rain this afternoon once again, I hope you brought your umbrella โ˜”. Maybe it’s an exaggeration but it sure feels like the sun ain’t going to shine again. The skies will clear Wednesday around 1 pm.

This morning I feel sick as a dog ๐Ÿถ but it’s off to work. Headache, body aches and a bit of a sore throat. But I’ve had this on and off for weeks now. I’m thinking it’s mold exposure from all the rain we’ve had lately in my shitty apartment and that and I hate Mondays. Hopefully this won’t last for long. It’s come and gone every week.

But I shouldn’t hate this week too much as tomorrow is a pay day, the first or second of the month depending on how you look at the calendar. ๐Ÿ’ต One week closer to a better tomorrow. I expect a busy day and I’m hoping to get out of work at a reasonable hour, so hopefully the day will go by quickly. No plans for the weekend yet, but I do have to prepare for the Lupine Festival and the Save the Pine Bush booth ๐Ÿฆ‹ on Saturday. The following weekend is Memorial Day Weekend.

Today will rain, mainly after 1pm. ๐ŸŒง High of 50 degrees at 1pm. 19 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 29th. East wind 5 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 68 degrees. The record high of 86 was set in 2004. There was a dusting of snow in 1953.โ„

The sun will set at 8:09 pm with dusk around 8:41 pm, which is one minute and 4 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 46 degrees. There will be a east breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 34 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 9 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will rain. ๐ŸŒง Low of 40 degrees at 6am. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 24th. North wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 54 degrees. The record low of 30 occurred back in 1996.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Memorial Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ when the sun will be setting at 8:22 pm with dusk at 8:56 pm. On that day in 2018, we had rain showers, partly sunny and temperatures between 68 and 54 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 73 degrees. We hit a record high of 94 back in 1914.

It looks like the weather forecast is improving for the long range. โ˜€ It might be a hot and dry start to June. I’m hoping for nice weather for Memorial Day Weekend but who knows at this point. At some point the weather will change. But regardless I expect a shit ton of black flies.๐Ÿœ At least they aren’t bad after dark. And they weren’t biting that much this weekend that was.

While I didn’t get to Moss Island this past weekend, I will probably head over to there sometime in June, ๐ŸŒผ as part of a trip to Piseco-Powley Road and the potholers. When I do that, I’ll probably also get a bite to eat for dinner at Green Acres drive-in and maybe hike a little bit of the Erie Canal Trail. Might be warm enough to kayak a bit in the Mohawk River too. Not totally sure which week though in June, because I also want to get up to Speculator and do some hiking and camping up along Perkins Clearing Road where I went on Labor Day Weekend last year.๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿ•

Almost to work… Time to end this blog post. Have a great day!

May 11, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Saturday. Finally the weekend! The Sunday before Mother’s Day. ๐Ÿšบ Next Saturday is Flower Moon ๐ŸŒ•. Partly cloudy, but clearing and 53 degrees โ›… up at Stewart Landing campsites in the Adirondacks. ๐Ÿ—ป There is a west-northwest breeze at 9 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. A bit chilly when the sun dips under the clouds, laying back in the hammock with the breeze blowing around. The skies will clear around 11 am.

At 4:15 pm Friday I decided to come up camping. โ›บ I had nothing packed or bought for food ๐Ÿฒ but I decided to leave work, grab my camping gear and head out. I figured I would beat the severe thunderstorm getting home โšก and then get packed while it was ongoing and from there after it was over, after rush hour head out of town. I stopped for some groceries and gas and went out to Stewart Landing. I got caught off at the same exit on the Crosstown Arterial in Albany I got rear ended on five years ago but this time I was able to avoid an crash though horns were mashed and brakes slammed. I may have urinated a bit in my pants over that. Yikes. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ People ask why I ducking hate motoring so much. The Thruway was completely blocked for a while due to a motorcycle crash, according to the CB radio ๐Ÿ“ป but after 15 minutes it freed up and I was moving. It such a ducking bad drive up here with smearing rain the whole way.

Because I had to shop, get gas and get packed, despite leaving work early, I didn’t get to camp until close to 8:15 around dusk ๐ŸŒ† but the campsite was fine except for the litter ๐Ÿšฎ, broken glass and thumb tack ๐Ÿ“ I had to clean up. A lot of litter around here I had to pick up which was annoying but the campsite is mostly cleaned up and I fixed up the fire pit. I’ll bring some of the litter home but the bigger stuff – burnt chair frame, burnt out car radio, lots of burnt wire – I’ll just toss in the pile of other debris back in the woods. It’s at least out of the way for now. I wish people wouldn’t litter – pack out your garbage. If something doesn’t burn fully, haul it out. I don’t understand why they wouldn’t scrap the burnt wire at least that was all over the campsite. Nobody wants to be tripping over wire or broken glass in the darkness.

Things are fairly dry up here ๐Ÿ‘ขbut there is a pretty deep and rocky mud hole on the driveway to the campsite โ›บ so I don’t want to drive through it unnecessarily to visit Little Falls today and I’m kind of annoyed about what happened yesterday driving up here. I just don’t want to hit one of those big rocks and bend or break a suspension component. Instead I’ll probably hike back to Hildervaldnt Vly from camp and enjoy the beautiful day in the wilderness. The sun is already charging the battery ๐Ÿ”‹ and I expect a good charge with all of the sun.

After I started setting up, somebody took the campsite just down the road, started a big fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ then packed up and left. Odd. That’s one of the reasons I’ve never camped down here as there isn’t a lot of space between the campsites – the nearest one is about 250 ft away. Not the mile plus of many of the Pisceo Powley sites. But quiet up here today, I can certainly listen to my music later on without bothering folks.

Today will be partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 57 degrees at 2pm. 11 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 13th. Northwest wind around 10 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 66 degrees. The record high of 90 was set in 1911. .5 inches of snow fell back in 1907.โ„

The sun will set at 8:11 pm with dusk around 8:44 pm, which is one minute and 6 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 52 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 7 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 32 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 15 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 38 degrees at 6am. Eight degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 18th. Northwest wind 5 to 7 mph becoming light and variable in the evening. In 2018, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became light rain by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 48 degrees. The record low of 29 occurred back in 1969.

As previously noted, next Saturday is Flower Moon ๐ŸŒ• when the sun will be setting at 8:19 pm with dusk at 8:52 pm. On that day in 2018, we had partly cloudy and temperatures between 73 and 51 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 70 degrees. We hit a record high of 94 back in 2017.

I should probably finish securing camp and head out on the trail. The hammock, sun and breeze are nice although I did just see my first black fly ๐Ÿœ of the year…..

May 6, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. Gotta make that money ๐Ÿ’ต to save for a better tomorrow. Plus buy beer, ammunition and gasoline. Three weeks to Memorial Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ. Not that it feels like it. Cloudy, damp and 55 degrees โ˜ Calm wind. The dew point is 51 degrees. The skies will clear around 2 pm.

I caught the earlier local bus ๐Ÿš to work today. I was up so I figured I might as well get in the office early. ๐Ÿข No sun now but they are still promising it later. I don’t know about you but I’m tired of all these cloudy, rainy days. Not sure how long the day will be but I’m hoping to get over to Finger Lakes wine night ๐Ÿท for a while this evening. I don’t drink much anymore so it won’t take much free booze to have my share. Tomorrow is mock session so I’ll probably get out at five o’clock tomorrow.

Today will have a slight chance of showers before 10am. Cloudy, then gradual clearing during the afternoon ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 71 degrees at 3pm. Four degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 20th. Maximum dew point of 51 at 7am. Calm wind becoming north around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning, which became light rain by afternoon. The high last year was 65 degrees. The record high of 89 was set in 1930. There was a dusting of snow in 1994.โ„

The sun will set at 8:01 pm with dusk around 8:32 pm, which is one minute and 6 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for partly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 66 degrees. The dew point will be 46 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 18 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 21 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a slight chance of showers after 3am. Partly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 53 degrees at 4am. Nine degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around June 2nd. Maximum dew point of 47 at 6pm. South wind 5 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2018, we had light rain in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 50 degrees. The record low of 29 occurred back in 1874.

I was thinking more about the weekend and I’m thinking about camping โ›บ up at the campsites near Stewart Landing and then driving down to Little Falls on Saturday. Sunday I could hike some of the upper Glassco Mills trail. ๐Ÿšถ Never been back that way. I probably wouldn’t bother with bringing my kayak as the water is still pretty cold.

As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until Memorial Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ when the sun will be setting at 8:22 pm with dusk at 8:56 pm. On that day in 2018, we had rain showers, partly sunny and temperatures between 68 and 54 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 73 degrees. We hit a record high of 94 back in 1914.

I’m still thinking about the East Branch of the Sacandaga for Memorial Day Weekend. โ›บ But only if the weather is decent and not too ungodly hot although I bet I could find a good swimming hole or two in the East Branch. ๐ŸŠ I wonder how much those campsites fill up? I’m thinking mid June heading up to Perkins Clearing lest I’m on call ๐Ÿ“ž and I need to do work from camp. I can call my clients from the hammock with my cowboy hat on. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Plus that site is nice and open so I would get a lot of Solar power. โ˜€

May 5, 2019 Night

Good evening! Partly clear and 56 degrees ๐ŸŒ‰. There is a east-southeast breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 49 degrees. The skies will clear tomorrow around 11 am. Not a terrible evening but I decided against sitting out back after my evening walk. Should be a great evening for sleeping. ๐Ÿ’ค

Sipping on some nice cold drink of water with a hint of that cider vinegar. ๐Ÿ I’m so glad I quit drinking alcohol. ๐Ÿป Budwiser is so tasty now that it’s a rare treat in the wilderness. Water is so much healthier and has zero calories. And cheaper. Maybe the slight acidity is bad for the teeth but I can’t imagine it’s any worse than soda. I do get regular check ups at the dentist and I still drink a lot of milk ๐Ÿฎ although not as much as I once did as milk is kind of expensive and a lot of calories.

All and all it was a pretty sucky weekend weather wise, ๐Ÿ’ฆ but except for running to the store I pretty much stayed home. I did get groceries so I’m not totally out of food like yesterday when I was stuck eating cream of chicken soup ๐Ÿ” dunked with stale bread. Hey, it had to be used up and I was in a cranky mood yesterday so I wasn’t going to go shopping. I figured sticking around home saves money. As does using up what is at home before buying more.

Tonight will have a slight chance of rain before 10pm, then a slight chance of showers between 10pm and 1am. Cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 49 degrees at 6am. Five degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 21st. East wind around 6 mph becoming north after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became light rain by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 54 degrees. The record low of 29 occurred back in 1969.

Tonight will have a Waxing Crescent Moon ๐ŸŒ’ with 5% illuminated. The First Quarter Moon is on Friday night with mostly cloudy skies expected. The Flower Moon ๐ŸŒ is on Friday, May 17th. The sun will rise at 5:43 am with the first light at 5:12 am, which is one minute and 17 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ Tonight will have 9 hours and 42 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 22 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 71 degrees at 5pm. Four degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 20th. Maximum dew point of 49 at 4pm. North wind 3 to 5 mph. Should be a nice day. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 65 degrees. The record high of 89 was set in 1930. There was a dusting of snow in 1994.โ„

Tomorrow is another work day but with my south facing office ๐Ÿข the sun will be nice โ˜€. I love the views of the Heldebergs and Catskills from my office and with all the greenery from the spider plants ๐ŸŒพ its always nice. I’ll definitely walk outside to the Capitol.

Over the weekend I worked on some improvements to the blog that make it easier for me to locate old content for refeaturing and updating. After all these years of blogging it becomes hard to constant think up new things. ๐Ÿ’ญ

I won the eBay auction for the hand drill ๐Ÿ”ฉ I plan to use for drilling holes in quarter inch luan plywood for building LED signs. Minimum bid $8, even with shipping I think I got a fair deal – certainly cheaper than buying new and much higher quality rool. I am thinking my first project will be a USA red white and blue sign for use at camp.๐Ÿ’ก I’ll probably just run it at five volts USB power with everything in parallel. If I drive the LEDs at 15 mA I can run 30 in parallel and draw about 1/2 amp at 5 VDC or 2.5 watts.

I also ordered two more HC-05 Bluetooth modules and a USB to serial adapter ๐Ÿ”Œ from China to replace the one I burnt up this weekend. Still haven’t paired the two together I have but I’ll figure it out eventually. I also played with the waterproof temperature sensor a bit today. I got to get it now working with the esp32 that drives my VMS display and run the wires outside so I can measure the outside temperature. โ„

I started thinking more about what life would be like without an automobile ๐Ÿš˜ this weekend. I’ve thought a lot about the savings but less about the costs – ride sharing fares, more bus fares, car rentals, laundromat, paid trash pickup vs hauling my own, and even having to either order online or buy from Hannaford rather than buy cheaper at Walmart. The big savings seem less than at first. Well I guess the same thing is true when I study car insurance ๐Ÿš™ options – big savings don’t materialize by shopping around if you want to maintain decent coverage. The way you save big bucks is by dropping the amount of coverage you have which increases your risk especially in case of severe accident. Being that I don’t own a house nor have my money tied up in property it’s less safe from liability lawsuits so I want to have decent coverage. ๐Ÿ’ต Plus I think it would mean a lot less nights in the wilderness.

Right now, next weekend looks pretty nice. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 64. Maximum dew point of 46 at 6am. Sunday, a chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 64. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Maximum dew point of 44 at 11am. Typical average high for the weekend is 68 degrees.

If the weekend forecast remains true, ๐Ÿ‘ I’m still thinking about Piseco Powley Road and then Little Falls on Saturday. โ›บ Things could change before the though. I know that the gates are closed north of the Potholers but the lower part of the road will be open and hopefully won’t be too soft. Or I could consider other alternatives.

In four weeks on June 2 the sun will be setting at 8:27 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 27 minutes and 14 seconds later then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had humid, partly sunny, patches of fog and temperatures between 78 and 60 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 74 and 53 degrees. The record high of 94 degrees was set back in 1895.

Looking ahead, Mothers Day ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€ is in 1 weeks, 8:30 PM Sunset ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ is a month away, Fathers Day ๐Ÿ‘จ is in 6 weeks, Dog Days of Summer ๐ŸŒป is in 2 months, National Nude Day ๐Ÿ‘ฑ is in 10 weeks, Sunset Before 7:30 PM ๐ŸŒ† is in 17 weeks, Autumn ๐Ÿ‚ is in 20 weeks and Average High is 60 ๐Ÿ‚ is in 23 weeks.

Spent a while yesterday on the Great Stairs looking down at Enfield Glen

April 22, 2019 Night

Good evening! Mostly cloudy with some clearing to the west and 62 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜” There is a north breeze at 8 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 46 degrees. Made for kind of a nice sunset but I do wish it was a little sunnier all of today. The skies will clear around 10 pm.

It was a nice enough of an evening that I went to the park after work for a while with a book. ๐Ÿ“™ It was one of those self improvement type books that encourages you to think more about who you are and how to make a better future for your and make life more enjoyable. I’m really kind of bored with many parts of life, I’m kind of looking for new adventures and things to do while I’m still in New York making and saving money.

Looking for new ideas on things to do, not just the same trips year after year after working my job all week long. It’s all gotten too routine and life is going by too quickly. My desire to change is part of the reason why I’m thinking in a few years of getting a bicycle to replace my truck. ๐Ÿšฒ I feel like not having a vehicle would force me to adjust my life, have new experiences. Truck camping is fun but its all become the same. โ›บ Maybe this year once the black flies are done, I’ll do more wilderness camping with the hammock and packing light.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 49 degrees at 5am. Nine degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical night around May 21st. North wind 6 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2018, it was clear in the evening, which became mostly sunny by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 30 degrees. The record low of 26 occurred back in 1975.

Tonight will have a Waning Gibbous Moon ๐ŸŒ– with 76% illuminated with the moon rising at 11:28 pm. The moon will set at 9:04 am. The Last Quarter Moon is on Thursday night with partly cloudy skies. The Flower Moon ๐ŸŒ is on Friday, May 17th. The sun will rise at 6:01 am with the first light at 5:32 am, which is one minute and 31 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ Tonight will have 10 hours and 14 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 39 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 73 degrees at 3pm. 11 degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical day around May 27th. I’ll take a late May day without the black flies and the humidity. Maximum dew point of 47 at 7am. Light and variable wind. A year ago, we had sunny. The high last year was 69 degrees. The record high of 87 was set in 2007. 2.4 inches of snow fell back in 1956.โ„

Tomorrow I shop ๐Ÿช and pack for camping. โ›บ The plan is to set up camp in the Southern Adirondacks for two nights starting Wednesday after work. Friday looks fairly wet, so I’m thinking about driving up to Tupper Lake and maybe camping and hiking around there on Saturday then drive home on Sunday, maybe stopping a few places on the way back home. Probably take an easy drive back down along NY 30 both ways as I hate expressway driving. I think I’d rather do that then sit in the rain โ˜” on Friday plus I haven’t been up to the Tupper Lake area in years, I think it’s five years since I camped at Horseshoe Lake and Jones Pond in that area. Not bringing the kayak, there is plenty to do on foot and I want to use the solar on the sunny days.

Right now, a split verdict on the weekend. ๐Ÿ˜• Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 58. Sunday, a chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 62. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Maximum dew point of 40 at 1pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 63 degrees.

I’m still thinking about possibly one more camping trip before Memorial Day Weekend โ›บ, namely that Moss Island and pre summer season trip to Piseco-Powley Road but worse comes to worse that can wait until June. Going to be a busy month for me. A trip to Madison County and Rogers Environmental Education Center is another real possibility as is a trip to Spectator camping where I did last Labor Day Weekend. I figure I should travel and camp these next two years as much as I can if I’m thinking about going car less in 2021. That said, most of the places I’m planning on going this year are pretty ordinary, I kind of wish I could do something new and different for a change. I really need to think about more wilderness camping in the back country. It doesn’t have to be that heavy miserable big pack frame we used in Boy Scouts with no technology at all.

In four weeks on May 20 the sun will be setting at 8:16 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 30 minutes and 29 seconds later then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had partly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 75 and 56 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 71 and 48 degrees. The record high of 91 degrees was set back in 1962.

I’m really fascinated by possibilities and power of the Processing Modeler in QGIS. ๐ŸŒ By plugging different filters together, extracting and manipulating raster data and vectorizing it there is some pretty remarkable things I could dream up. There is a lot of great things you can do with digital mapping I’m just discovering now after all these years with QGIS. I think running out of state land to map in many ways is a blessing as it’s forced me to become more creative with the stuff I do with map data and add other useful features. Too often in life I find myself in a rut lacking creative energy or a desire to try something new.

I really should find time to rebuild my electronic VMS sign for my office but I think I need more wire and I’ve been loathe to spend more time with the soldering iron. ๐Ÿ”ฌI should spend more rainy days on that kind of thing.

It’s still pretty early by I’m tired. ๐Ÿ˜ด I should finish putting my wash away and get to bed. Each night I keep retiring earlier but that’s fine because I wake up earlier. A good night’s sleep is important for doing a good job at work. Plus I have to pack for camp tomorrow.

Looking ahead, Memorial Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ is in 5 weeks, Average High is 80 ๐Ÿ– is in 2 months, Latest Sunset ๐ŸŒ† is in 9 weeks, July ๐ŸŠ๐Ÿฟ is in 10 weeks, Cow Appreciation Day ๐Ÿ‚ is in 12 weeks, Last Sunset After 8 PM ๐ŸŒ† is in 16 weeks, Labor Day ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿญ is in 19 weeks, Autumn ๐Ÿ‚ is in 5 months and Columbus Day ๐Ÿ›ฅ๏ธ is in 24 weeks.

Mountains lost in fog

March 15, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Ides of March โœ! Good weather today for those friendly strangers cruising in their black sedans with the windows down. Ten weeks until Memorial Day Weekend. Black flies will be here before you know it. ๐Ÿœ Cloudy and 54 degrees in Delmar. โ˜ Breezy, ๏ธ16 mph breeze from the south ๐ŸŒฌ . The dew point is 45 degrees. Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 9 pm. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Nice mild morning, although certainly a little bit damp and cloudy. โ˜ I think ๐Ÿ’ญ the rain โ˜” has stopped, but I see more coming on the radar. But didn’t impact my walk down to the express bus.๐Ÿšถ Caught the express bus ๐Ÿš downtown from the Park and Ride. ๐ŸšBrand new bus, has only 3,000 miles on it according to the driver, probably just from taking delivery. I’ve heard that many of the buses are driven rather than loaded on train to get from California. Gives them a chance break in the engines and buses are so large they’d be expensive freight to ship any other way. โœ‰ Maybe though I’m wrong. ๐Ÿ˜• Some traffic ๐Ÿšฅ delays heading downtown but I get to enjoy the toxic ๐Ÿ’€new bus smell.

Finally a nice warm day. I opened the windows this morning to let some fresh air. Not super warm yet but it’s warm enough that the heat hasn’t run for a day now. ๐Ÿ”ฅ Good for my budget for sure. ๐Ÿ’ต As much work as wood heat may be I do like the idea ๐Ÿ’ก of spending money on sweat rather than fossil fuels. Eventually I’ll be able to leave the windows open for good. ๐Ÿƒ I almost thought about hanging out my flag but this morning ain’t that great.

Today will have showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before noon, then a chance of showers. Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 64 degrees at 3pm. 20 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 28th. Yeap, it’s going to feel like a late April day. Going to be nice with all that fresh air in the apartment. Maximum dew point of 51 at 11am. South wind 10 to 16 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had partly cloudy in the morning, which became mostly sunny by afternoon. The high last year was 39 degrees. The record high of 72 was set in 1989. Probably not going to break that record. 10.4 inches of snow fell back in 1916.โ„ And certainly not that one. ๐Ÿ˜‚

The sun will set at 7:02 pm with dusk around 7:30 pm, which is one minute and 10 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for clearing skies ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 57 degrees. There will be a west breeze at 8 mph. Today will have 11 hours and 56 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 54 seconds over yesterday.

I put some cold beer in the fridge that I got left over Brooklyn Night. Going to sit out back after work, next to the snow bank and drink ๐Ÿป some beer after work. I might also go for a walk to the park for a while too. I thought about grilling the frozen burger ๐Ÿ” I have on my grill but I don’t have any hamburger buns and I’m kind of in a rush to get down to the park โ›ฒ before dark.

Tonight will have a slight chance of showers before midnight. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 37 degrees at 6am. 11 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 13th. West wind 7 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2018, we had mostly clear in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 25 degrees. The record low of 4 occurred back in 1980. I like record lows above freezing.

Today in 44 BC, Julius Caesar, Dictator of the Roman Republic, is stabbed to death by Marcus Junius Brutus, Gaius Cassius Longinus, Decimus Junius Brutus, and several other Roman senators๐Ÿ”ช on the Ides of March. And of course that pop group the Ides of March released their hit single, Vehicle. ๐ŸŽค๐ŸŽต๐Ÿ“€ Vehicle would go on to be one of the fastest growing pop hits of all times, an immediate success in March and April 1970, well until the Candian Rock Band, The Guess Who released American Women in mid-April, saturating the air play.ย Vehicle was quickly forgotten about although the oldies stations still play it a lot, because it is kind of a rocking good song. ๐ŸŽ› Heck, I still like to turn it up, almost 50 years later — and it was an old song when I was born in 1983.

One month ๐Ÿ“… from now will be Tax Day ๐Ÿ’ฐ. I filed my taxes, but they got kicked back in the software, as I need to amend something that I made a mistake on. It’s actually good, the mistake is in my favor, not in the governments favor, so I’ll end up paying less. No fine, it’s just I made typo in my reporting which made my adjusted gross income look higher then it actually was. So many numbers you have to enter now that I’ve gotten older and done more on investing for my future.๐Ÿก

That said and the lower heating bills are going to be big help. ๐Ÿ”ฅ I’m really hoping over the next month I will only be using the heat modestly, as it’s now gotten to the point where it’s fairly mild — days in the 30s and 40s are much easier on the heating bills compared to 20s and 30s, especially as I tend to keep my heat set to around 50 in this weather. I can’t wait until the windows can be open for good โน even if it means hot and sticky evenings. Their is cold beverages for that weather.๐Ÿน

Tomorrow will be partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 42 degrees at 3pm. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 11th. Breezy, with a west wind 14 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 33 mph. A year ago, we had partly cloudy in the morning, which became mostly sunny by afternoon. The high last year was 32 degrees. The record high of 82 was set in 1990. 13.4 inches of snow fell back in 1956.โ„ Sunday will be mostly sunny, with a high near 38. West wind 9 to 14 mph. โ˜€ Typical average high for the weekend is 44 degrees.

Not totally sure what my weekend plans will be, but I will probably stay in town, maybe go for a walk in the neighborhood. I’m not sure that this point if I am going to head into the city this weekend to keep working on Mr. Wolcott’s files ๐Ÿ—„as the St. Patricks Day parade will tie up things downtown, and Sunday I’m going out hiking. I got to look into the bus schedule more and think ๐Ÿค” about it some more.

Still haven’t installed the replacement battery ๐Ÿ”‹ into my phone yet. Maybe later on this evening or tomorrow morning. I just want to make sure I can get it fully charged before using it. I just hate how fast things discharge on my phone now. ๐Ÿ“ฑ

In four weeks on April 12 the sun will be setting at 7:34 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 32 minutes and 7 seconds later then today. In 2018 on that day, we had rain showers, partly cloudy and temperatures between 54 and 29 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 57 and 36 degrees. The record high of 84 degrees was set back in 1977.

Looking ahead, Tax Day ๐Ÿ’ฐ is a month away, Memorial Day Weekend Starts ๐Ÿ•๏ธ is in 10 weeks and Dog Days of Summer ๐ŸŒป is in 16 weeks.

February 21, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Thursday. Four weeks to Spring ๐ŸŒท. Ain’t that good news. It was cloudy to start out the day, now partly cloudy but clearing and 36 degrees in Delmar. โ˜ There is a south breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. There are 2 inches of snow on the ground but melting fast. โ˜ƒ It looks like the ice storm they were threatening did not materialize to much, it’s already getting nicer out. Maybe not spring but warm enough to turn the heat back down. ๏ธTemperatures will drop below freezing at around 11 pm.

Even on a dark mornings like today started out, โ˜ the lights in my bedroom continue to be quite bright making it easier to get up and going. That said, by getting to bed at a proper time and then the earlier sunrise ๐ŸŒ… makes it much easier to get out of bed. โ˜•ย Waffles and coffee for breakfast, took a shower, walked down to the express bus.๐Ÿš

The severe weather turned out to be a bust. โ˜”Some rain coming home but the treated surfaces weren’t bad at all. This morning the roads were fine, and the sidewalks weren’t that slippery but I think they could have used a plow.๐ŸŒจย By morning, it was partly sunny and the roads just wet. I think by the end of the day, the sidewalks will have melted away, with the sun and warmth coming today, along with a wind which will probably expose some bare spots on the ground.

Today will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 43 degrees at 12pm. Seven degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical day around March 12th. Breezy, with a south wind 6 to 11 mph becoming west 18 to 23 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 37 mph. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning, which cleared to mostly sunny conditions by afternoon. The high last year was 73 degrees. That’s the record high for the day. This winter though, it seems like winter won’t hit . 11.0 inches of snow fell back in 1929.โ„

The sun will set at 5:35 pm with dusk around 6:03 pm, which is one minute and 17 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 39 degrees. Breezy, 21 mph breeze โ›… from the west with gusts up to 33mph. Today will have 10 hours and 53 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 48 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 27 degrees at 5am. Eight degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical night around March 19th. Breezy, with a northwest wind 10 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph. In 2018, we had mostly clear in the evening, which became light snow by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 21 degrees. The record low of -08 occurred back in 1963.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 42 degrees at 2pm. Six degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical day around March 10th. Northwest wind 7 to 10 mph. A year ago, we had partly cloudy in the morning, which became mostly sunny by afternoon. The high last year was 40 degrees. The record high of 68 was set in 1997. 14.8 inches of snow fell back in 1893.โ„

After I posted my essay yesterday about not having Internet,ย I got yet another glossy advertisement from Spectrum Cable,ย trying to get me to sign up. ๐Ÿ•ธย I tossed it promptly in the recycling bin.ย โ™ปย I am quite happy not having Internet at home, it’s just obnoxious how they always try to get me to sign up.

I have to say that the Save the Pine Bush dinner last night was one of the most interesting ones I’ve been to in a long time.๐Ÿ“ข Ward Stone was great as was Keith Shue who between the two gave us a good background of the ANSWERS plant’s history and the troublesome future. I was very surprised to learn that should the state put a co generation plant in the ANSWERS facility it will increase emissions by over 50% over the existing steam plant, ๐Ÿญand it will be running nearly all the time compared to the steam plant that only runs part time, especially in modest weather.โ™จ

I really like the improvements to Google Maps on the transit๐ŸšŒ front – I finally upgraded the app which doesn’t happen automatically as I have limited space.๐Ÿ“ฒ I like how the app is cleaner with transit information, tells you in big numbers how long you have to wait, how late the bus is running compared to what it’s scheduled to arrive at. Just update Google Maps and try out the app. Mine doesn’t update automatically, as my phone is always short of memory. I also am finding the battery isn’t a holding a charge very long. I may have to think about plunking down $50 for a new phone come summer. But I will have gotten 2 years out of the Tracphone, which is pretty good for those cheap phones that are just landfill fodder — although even expensive phones these days are basically the same thing.ย ๐Ÿ—‘

I am continuing to work on figuring out on how to build my smart relay for my truck.ย It makes a lot of sense to integrate the GPS logger I built with it now that I think about it more, ๐Ÿ—บย and maybe also bluetooth so I can monitor battery voltages,ย ๐Ÿ”‹ย and the status of the system from my phone when I’m sitting by the campfire. Thenย  I was thinking I could use a hall-effect sensor with it too, and monitor the amperage coming off the solar panel, so I could easily see the power coming off the panel. But then again, that would make the code a lot more complicated. I have ideas, the thing I have build them so they can become more then ideas.๐Ÿค”

Right now, a split verdict on the weekend. ๐Ÿ˜• Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 42. Calm wind becoming south around 5 mph in the afternoon. Going to be great weather for the Save the Pine Bush Hike, assuming the trails aren’t too slushy.ย ๐Ÿ‘ขย Although who knows how much snow will be left come Saturday, and the sand doesn’t always trap the water and muck too much. Sunday, rain before 1pm, then showers likely after 1pm. High near 51. ๐Ÿ’ฆย At least it will keep the heat at minimum over the weekend, assuming it’s not too damp and chilly inside. I doubt though I’ll be opening the windows, but at least I’ll save on heating, which is good because my bills have been kind of high this year Chance of precipitation is 80%. Typical average high for the weekend is 37 degrees. Above average for a few days then, cooling down for next week.

In four weeks, which is one month from now, is theย First Day of Springย ๐ŸŒทย  on March 21 the sun will be setting at 7:09 pm (Daylight Savings Time),ย ๐ŸŒ„ which is one hour, 33 minutes and 41 seconds later then today. Dusk is at 7:38 PM, which means I might be able to go to the park after work, if it’s not too wet or cold.๐Ÿž In 2018 on that day, we had cloudy and temperatures between 37 and 25 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 46 and 27 degrees. The record high of 78 degrees was set back in 1921. I know I am definitely looking forward to spring, especially once the snow melts and I can start spending more time in the wilderness camping ๐Ÿ•and having a nice fire or two.๐Ÿ”ฅ

Looking ahead, Spring ๐ŸŒท is a month away, Average High is 50 ๐ŸŒธ is in 5 weeks, Average High is 60 ๐ŸŒผ is in 8 weeks, Easter ๐Ÿฐ is in 2 months, Average High is 70 ๐Ÿฎ is in 12 weeks (cows like to chew their cud when it’s not too warm), Independence Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ is in 19 weeks and August ๐ŸŒป is in 23 weeks.
