November 13, 2018 Morning

Good morning! Tonight is first Average Nightly Temperature Below Freezing 🌌. Six weeks to Christmas 🎅. Maybe it will warm up again and I can spend Christmas camping in Brookfield again. That was wild that year in 2015, warm and no snow. Hiking Glimmerglass State Park on Christmas morning was wonderful. With the heat dome in the mid west and west, I could see it pushing east by December. I’d take a 45 degree day with lots of sun for mid-December. 🌞 Climate change has its upside in the winter if you’re not a snowmobiler right now and your on the hot side of the increasingly wavy jet stream.

Heavy rain and 36 degrees in Delmar. β˜” No snow here but very cold and wet. There is a north breeze at 5 mph. 🍃.

Temperatures locally will drop below freezing at around 10 pm. β˜ƒοΈ Up north I’ve heard it’s an all snow event. Yep there getting more snow there, although I don’t think the snowmobile trails open until the end of Big Game Season.🐻

Today will rain, mainly before noon, then a slight chance of showers after 4pm. 🌧 High of 40 degrees at 3pm. Nine degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical day around December 4th. Definitely not a warm day. Northwest wind 5 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. A year ago, we had cloudy skies with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 41 degrees. The record high of 69 was set in 1964. 6 inches of snow fell back in 1886.❄

The sun will set at 4:34 pm with dusk around 5:04 pm, which is 58 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌇 At sunset, look for rain showers 🌧 and temperatures around 39 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 11 mph with gusts up to 21mph. Today will have 9 hours and 48 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 13 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a slight chance of rain showers before 8pm, then a slight chance of rain and snow showers between 8pm and 9pm, then a chance of snow showers after 9pm. Mostly cloudy 🌧, with a low of 24 degrees at 6am. Eight degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical night around December 8th. Northwest wind 11 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. In 2017, we had cloudy skies. It got down to 32 degrees. The record low of 12 occurred back in 1996.

Finally bought coffee. β˜• It was good having a nice strong cup of coffee this morning. Percolator pot on the stove still works great. Simple technology is the best. Helped with getting up and heading out to the bus stop on this rather rainy and cold morning.🚏Nice and warm on the bus during this rainy morning, as I listen to Hollies heading down. I’m glad they built a bus shelter 🚍 near where I live on rainy mornings like today. Plus the heated bus shelter in the plaza for the evening trip home, now. That’s so awesome.

It’s good to be back in the routine, although it’s not going to last as I’m back in the field for work for a few more days this week 🌽 but soon it will be the normal routine where I can leave Big Red parked hooked up to the solar panel for a full week or more. 🚌That’s winter, I like to save as much gasoline and money as possible until traveling season returns, especially as my utility bills increase with the heat being turned on.β›½

When I went shopping yesterday, I forgot to buy more waffle mix. I did buy frozen cherries to top them off. 🍒 I have eggs from my parents for breakfast today. Bought cheese and sausage to complement them. 🍳 Very filling meal, I packed lunch but I’ll probably skip it in favor of having an early dinner around four.

When I’m at Walmart, I usually try to buy the biggest family sized packages of food just because it saves money and reduce waste,💰 especially during the winter when I don’t have a fire to chuck the packaging into like is so handy when camping. Plus the waffle mix boxes are just paper so I can recycle them for free, no hauling to the transfer station. Saves a lot of money also buying bulk and means fewer times of running low on supplies. I think I have the same jumbo bottle of shampoo that I bought at the beginning of the year because it’s lasted so long. Every dollar saved is one closer to owning my off-grid cabin. 🏡 It’s good to have a savings goal in life. Oh, and today is pay day.

Looking ahead, there are 6 weeks until Christmas 🎅 when the sun will be setting at 4:27 pm with dusk at 4:59 pm. On that day in 2017, we had snow, heavy fog, freezing fog, mist, squalls, partly cloudy skies and temperatures between 33 and 17 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 33 degrees. That was no 2015 that year. We hit a record high of 66 back in 1889. It was even warmer I believe on Christmas Eve 2015.

November 12, 2018 Night

Good evening! Mostly cloudy and 40 degrees in Delmar. ☁ There is a south breeze at 5 mph. 🍃. Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 8 pm. β˜ƒοΈ Then a long cold period will be upon us.

Tonight will rain and snow before 3am, then rain, snow, and sleet between 3am and 4am, then rain after 4am. 🌧 Low of 35 degrees at 3am. Three degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical night around November 3rd. That’s kind of good otherwise it would be a quite snowy evening. South wind 3 to 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Little or no snow and sleet accumulation expected. In 2017, we had cloudy skies. It got down to 32 degrees. The record low of 13 occurred back in 1981.

Tonight will have a Waxing Crescent Moon 🌒 with 28% illuminated. The moon will rise at 11:55 am. The First Quarter Moon is on Wednesday night with mostly clear skies. The Beaver Moon 🌝 is on Thursday, November 22nd. Good trapping. The sun will rise at 6:44 am with the first light at 6:14 am, which is one minute and 16 seconds later than yesterday. 🌄 Tonight will have 14 hours and 10 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 14 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will rain, mainly before noon, then a slight chance of showers after 3pm. 🌧 High of 39 degrees at 12pm. 10 degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical day around December 6th. Kind of a wet and cold day ahead. North wind 5 to 14 mph becoming northwest in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 41 degrees. The record high of 69 was set in 1964. Not exactly a hot day even back then. 6 inches of snow fell back in 1886.❄

Cool this weekend with temperatures running 10 degrees below normal but otherwise sunny. πŸ˜€ Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 42. I’ll take that. Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 33. Maybe I will head out of town this weekend to the Adirondacks for some snow camping and skiing. Going to be very cold up north with all the snow but I have the heater and will bundle up. Typical average high for the weekend is 47 degrees.

I think truck cap camping is done until spring as the snow is setting in early.β›Ί It’s good for the deer hunters tracking deer but not so good for getting into the back country with a truck. I can certainly hot tent camp but with my little plastic sled I’m limited to how far I can drag gear back in the woods.

I got grocery shopping today, got down to the library for podcasts, aired back up my tires except for the one I couldn’t reach with the cord to bring up to the proper pressure (fix tomorrow), went for a nice walk, did some reading and got other projects done. All and all I thought it was a productive day. 👍

Back to work tomorrow, traveling out of town again tomorrow in the evening, heading back out to Central New York for a few days. 🚗 I am a little worried about the threat of snow and icy roads but it looks like the timing will mean that I will miss the worse of it when I’m on the road. ❄

One thing that is frustrating is that I misplaced my small gage wire stripper, which has put my electronics project on hold for now. βœ‚ I used it for something I was fixing on my truck but it wouldn’t work for that job as it’s only works with the very fine wires I use for my electronics projects. Unfortunately it’s the kind of thing I can only really get online as Radio Shack is no more locally.

I keep finding yellow jackets in my apartment. 🐝 When I got back last week there was a bunch of dead ones on the floor, and each time I turn up the heat I find a one or two more around. Hopefully I don’t have a nest inside somewhere that will become reactivated come spring time.

I’ve been posting more essays lately with my thoughts. I will be the first to admit some of my ideas are controversial but that’s intentional.📰 I’m tired of hearing the conventional wisdom in the news, I think long sacred cows need to be challenged. Phil Ochs is my idol. 🎸

In four weeks on December 10 the sun will be setting at 4:22 pm,🌄 which is 13 minutes and 10 seconds earlier then tonight. Pretty close to the earliest sunset of the year, only off by a few seconds. In 2017 on that day, we had snow, patches of fog, mist, mostly cloudy skies and temperatures between 36 and 18 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 38 and 23 degrees. The record high of 64 degrees was set back in 1966.

Looking ahead, Cyber Monday 🛍️ is in 2 weeks, New Years Eve 🎆 is in 7 weeks, Martin Luther King Day 🖤 is in 10 weeks, Average High is 40 β˜€οΈ is in 16 weeks, Daylight Savings Time 🌆 is in 4 months, April Fools Day 🤡 is in 20 weeks, Tax Day 💰 is in 22 weeks, Mothers Day 👩‍ is in 6 months, Memorial Day 🇺🇸 is in 28 weeks, July 🏊🏿 is in 33 weeks and Last Sunset After 8 PM 🌆 is in 9 months.

White Water

November 9, 2018 Night

Good evening! Rain and 40 degrees in Delmar. β˜” There is a east-southeast breeze at 10 mph. 🍃. Kind of a cold and wet night tonight, I turned on the heat after coming home. Above freezing here, and it will warm as the night progresses, then cool down over as the weekend progresses. Temperatures will drop below freezing at Sunday around noontime. β˜ƒοΈ

Tonight will rain, mainly before 3am. 🌧 Low of 39 degrees at 3am. With the rain, fairly mild. It will be six degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical night around October 18th. Southeast wind 6 to 10 mph becoming northwest after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. In 2017, we had light rain in the evening, which became light snow by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 21 degrees. The record low of 16 occurred back in 1965.

Kind of a lazy Friday night, laying in bed listening to some Christmas music 🎄with the lights dimmed, writing down my thoughts on the blog. I’m going to kill the lights soon and go to bed, setting my alarm⏰ so I get started at a reasonable hour tomorrow. I still lack coffee but I think I will make waffles in the morning.

Tonight will have a Waxing Crescent Moon 🌒 with 7% illuminated. The moon will rise at 9:27 am. Not going to see much through the clouds tonight, although it has already set. The First Quarter Moon is on Wednesday night with partly cloudy skies. The Beaver Moon 🌝 is on Thursday, November 22nd. Thanksgiving! The sun will rise at 6:40 am with the first light at 6:10 am, which is one minute and 16 seconds later than yesterday. 🌄 Tonight will have 14 hours and 3 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 19 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have a slight chance of rain before 7am, then a slight chance of showers between 7am and 11am. Mostly sunny 🌞, with a high of 39 degrees at 6am. 11 degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical day around December 6th. West wind 8 to 16 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. Pretty darn chilly but I still think I will bundle up and head up north and enjoy the sunshine. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies with more clouds in the afternoon. The high last year was 45 degrees. The record high of 72 was set in 1931. 3.2 inches of snow fell back in 1987.❄

The moldy, musty smell has mostly disappeared from my apartment, since I cleaned up the mildew under the stove and behind it. Most of the rest of the kitchen has was mildew free once I got it cleaned up but it was a tough year fighting the mildew with it being such a hot and wet summer. 💦 Fortunately, full strength bleach works wonders on the walls. It’s been an ongoing battle in my apartment but it’s a cheap place and I love location near the library, parks, and express and local busses.

Continuing to design the flashing start I’m building for my niece for her night stand, but I expect I have a design that is nice. ✨ Powered by an Ardiuno board it uses RGB leds to turn marbles various colors.

I’m going to play it by ear but I fully expect to head up to the Adirondacks by mid morning tomorrow. β›Ί I am hoping to get the campsite I like that has cell service and a good clearing to flood the solar panel with sunlight during the daylight hours. Sunday I will hike back along the Stewart Creek most likely, and Monday (Veterans Day) I will head home as I have to work Tuesday. I think with the rain, most of the snow they got earlier today will be melted away but I’ll bring my sled in case I have to drag gear back to the site. At some point, maybe Monday I’ll hike back to Auger Falls, or maybe drive up to Speculator and hike the nature trail boardwalk, as it would be interesting to see in the winter.

I skipped buying groceries today, I’ll get them on the way up. 🍖I bought my hunting license today although the town clerk charged me an extra $1.95 for using my credit card, as I lacked $22 in cash. Saved money by skipping my trapping privileges this year although I could get that later. Next time I will just go to the DEC license bureau and buy it. I can’t believe they charge for that. I can understand charging for extra fees for a town license on a credit card but a hunting license where Walmart or every other place doesn’t seems silly 💳. It’s not like they aren’t getting paid by the state as a retailer like $2. Buying a license at Walmart is a pain because there never is a clerk there. But I know I won’t be buying a license again from the town clerk. I should go to the bank tomorrow and deposit the expense check I have from work and get some cash as it’s handy to have as a few places don’t take cards.

I went to the library and borrowed several books and got caught up on things on the internet. 📚 Looking forward to doing some reading up at camp and just sitting back by the fire during the long winter nights. I hope we have lots of blue skies as it will make things feel much more cheery and keep the batteries well topped off. Even a cold day, the sun can make things much better.

In four weeks on December 7 the sun will be setting at 4:21 pm,🌄 which is 16 minutes and 16 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2017 on that day, we had snow, cloudy skies and temperatures between 41 and 26 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 39 and 25 degrees. Basically tomorrow’s weather. The record high of 65 degrees was set back in 1998.

Looking ahead, Buy Nothing Day 🛍️ is in 2 weeks.

November 6, 2018 Morning

Good morning! Happy Election Day 2018 πŸ—³οΈ. It’s the big mid-term elections. If you haven’t, now would be a good time to vote. It’s always fun to fill in the scantron, after all the craziness of elections. Next Tuesday is Average Night Below Freezing 🌌. Pouring rain and 49 degrees in North Syracuse. β˜” There is a east breeze at 10 mph. πŸƒ. Temperatures will drop below freezing at Saturday around 5 am. β˜ƒοΈ Then the big chill comes, with probably some lake-effect snow, but I will have to watch it with my camping trip, so I don’t get stuck in a blizzard — although for most of my trip I don’t expect to be in the snow belt — so I will probably miss most of the snow, and it might actually be quite sunny but cold.

Today will have showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 3pm, then a chance of showers.Β β›ˆ High of 62 degrees at 2pm. 10 degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 50 at 11am.Β  East wind 10 to 15 mph becoming southwest in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. A year ago, we had cloudy skies. The high last year was 63 degrees. The record high of 73 was set in 2015. 3.2 inches of snow fell back in 1933.❄

The sun will set at 4:49 pm with dusk around 5:19 pm, which is one minute and 12 seconds earlier than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for some clearing with a continued chance rain showers  🌦 and 60 degrees. The dew point will be 49 degrees. There will be a southwest breeze at 14 mph. Tomorrow will have 10 hours of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 26 seconds over today.

Tonight will have a chance of showers. Mostly cloudy ☁, with a low of 46 degrees at 6am. 12 degrees above normal. Breezy, with a southwest wind 14 to 21 mph, with gusts as high as 34 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2017, we had mostly cloudy skies. It got down to 33 degrees. The record low of 18 occurred back in 1962.

There are 14 hours and 14 minutes until the poll close on Election Day in New York. πŸ—³ Yeap, today is big election day. And then it’s over. then assuming we don’t have too much lake-effect snow, it’s my road trip. πŸ• A little snow, might actually be pretty. That said, I’m not expecting much down in the Finger Lakes or Southern Tier. At the Finger Lakes National Forest, a lot of the roads are plowed year round, and I’ll bring a shovel. I kind of prefer snow to a cold rain, just because I won’t get so wet with snow. I will pack lots of warm stuff.🌨

Actually, all said and done it looks like next week will be one of the best weather-wise all autumn. 🌀 At least several days with partial clearing and sun. Cold yes, but sometimes the sun will make up with it. 🌬 But I can string up tarps to block the wind. And hopefully it won’t be too cold. I am hoping that I can have all week off next week, so I can fully enjoy my vacation. We will see. I also need to get my registration done, and inspection done by the end of the month.

I plan to take care of the registration on Thursday or Friday, and then will get my truck inspected and possibly repaired over the Thanksgiving weekend. I have noticed some noise and hop when I really clink the wheels hard to turning on the very rough parking lot at campaign office,πŸ…ΏοΈ so I am thinking I will probably need to have a ball joint or other suspension component replaced, but I don’t think it’s at a critical point now, but I want to get that fixed before it causes excessive wear on those big expensive tires I have on the truck. Or it could be nothing, just the suspension struggling to turn on the very rough pavement. I don’t have issues in most lots. I’ve not noticed anything on the highway or driving when I don’t have the wheels cranked almost to the maximum position when parking, but it will certainly get worse over time, and I certainly want it replaced before something goes bang on the highway.πŸ’₯ Maybe when I have the inspection done. I always need something new to worry about.

I also need to top off the oil, (I have a quart ready to go in the back) β›½and I would like to wire up the amp meter too, so I can monitor the amperage coming off the solar panel. The accessory battery is always very happy and well charged now, thanks to the solar panel keeping it topped off all day long. And obviously I have to get all my camping gear packed,πŸ• my hunting licensed renewed,🎫 guns cleaned and oiled, πŸ”« and food bought. I am thinking I might visit my parents on Thursday night if they are around, as I have an event to go to on Wednesday. I might see if there are any sales, as I might want to pick up some additional gear.

Then it will be probably one more trip to the Adirondacks in late November or early December, probably to the campsite I like near the East Branch of the Sacanadaga River, 🏞 before the snow sets in for the winter. The big game hunters usually start filtering out by then, so more campsites are available. β—Ό I really like that campsite across from the Cod Pond Trail, as it’s set back from the road, but it has cell service,πŸ“² and is very open above, which means I’ll have sunlight to power up the solar panel.

After that it’s the long cold winter, and I have many electronics projects I want to build from the components I ordered from AliExpress. πŸ”¬I have a bunch of LEDs and other things I want to build, making signs and lighting devices. I am thinking of building some decorative vases with marbles that would change color, which would be especially cool with the UV “black light” LEDs I bought, mixed with something that will florescent under UV light. πŸ’‘ I certainly have a lot of components that I could build things from now. It’s going to be a long winter, but I kind of like not having drive much, and winter walks down to public library to pass away the time on the wi-fi.

Once I’m back home, I’ll be riding the bus to work, and not worry about traffic or driving will be nice. 🚌 It’s fantastic that they changed the bus route, so it will be on time more, and I will on cold days be able to get the bus at the turn-around. I hate the big gas and electric bills in the winter,πŸ”₯ but I’m continuing to invest and eventually I will be able to afford land and an off-grid house which will use solar for electricity and wood for heat, and maybe some propane.

As previously noted, next Tuesday is Average Night Below Freezing 🌌 when the sun will be setting at 4:42 pm with dusk at 5:12 pm. On that day in 2017, we had snow, cloudy skies and temperatures between 41 and 32 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 49 degrees. We hit a record high of 69 back in 1964.

As a final note, don’t forget to get out and vote. β˜‘οΈ I am not thrilled by our leadership, or many of the incumbents which will certainly be elected, but it’s important to at least raise your voice and be heard in our democracy. It’s good to cast a protest vote here and there. ✊

 Falling

November 5, 2018 Morning

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. Final Monday before vacation,πŸ• and coincidentally Election Day.Β πŸ—³ Next Monday, Veterans Day is Observed (Monday) πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ. Heavy rain this morning and 44 degrees in North Syracuse. 🌧 There is a southeast breeze at 14 mph. πŸƒ. Temperatures will drop below freezing at Saturday around 3 am. β˜ƒοΈ

Today will have showers likely, mainly between 10am and 1pm. Cloudy β˜”, with a high of 51 degrees at 1pm. I dunno, it’s raining pretty hard now. One degrees below normal. Southeast wind 11 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. A year ago, we had cloudy skies. The high last year was 57 degrees. The record high of 75 was set in 1994. 3 inches of snow fell back in 1894.❄

The sun will set at 4:50 pm with dusk around 5:20 pm, which is one minute and 13 seconds earlier than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for rain showersΒ β˜” and 51 degrees. There will be a east-southeast breeze at 11 mph. Today will have 10 hours and 5 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 30 seconds over yesterday. The days keep getting shorter, even in Trump’s America.

Tonight will have a chance of showers, mainly before midnight. Mostly cloudy , with a low of 44 degrees at 5am. 10 degrees above normal. Southeast wind 9 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2017, we had light rain in the evening, remaining overcast into the early morning. It got down to 42 degrees. The record low of 15 occurred back in 1951.

I am working on putting together my packing list for the camping trip. πŸ• The forecast is generally looking drier but cold. I can deal with the cold, as long as it doesn’t look like snow and ice. I don’t want to risk sliding off a road or dealing with bad roads especially with the many steep hills and rough terrian I expect to be in over the next week and half camping. I will pack my heater, have lots of coffee and hot-coca,Β β˜• and will hot tent if it gets really cold. Not to mention a big fire, stew, and other good eats. 🌬 I can also build a wind-shelter to block the wind should that start to pick up in the afternoon. It’s still only early to mid-October, so an exceptionally cold night gets down into the teens, so it’s not that cold, as long as we don’t get any sow.❄ My goal is spend more nights at one camp, to save gas and miles on the truck, to get to know the land, with less driving, so I will have the time to build a fairly elaborate shelter.

There is 1 day, 12 hours and 9 minutes until the poll close on Election Day in New York. πŸ—³ It’s going to be a wet one today, then tomorrow is the day to vote, if you haven’t done it yet, via absentee ballots. I’m quite happy with my choice to vote for Libertarian Larry Sharpe for governor, as I didn’t think Molinaro really had a chance, despite my friends on social media saying I shouldn’t vote for a spoiler.Β  I am a liberal, and I believe in big-picture issues, but I have no tolerance for over-regulation of private citizen’s lives, 🚨 something that current incumbent who I’ve never voted for has made a hallmark of his eight years in the governorship.🏚 I do worry we aren’t doing enough to control government waste and spending more general, with the government finding new ways to extract more money out of ordinary people through new fees and fines. At the same time ,more needs to be done to address the climate change crisis and spiraling out of control healthcare costs.

I like to cast a protest vote, especially if my vote ain’t going to change a thing. ✊ Honestly though, I don’t really care that much, as I’m planning to move out of New York in a decade or so, and everybody knows our state is a shit-hole. πŸ’© I am not holding my breath on big reforms proposed by the Democrats like affordable, sensible healthcare or climate change action, despite all the nibbling around these issues and the many press releases they put out.🏦 Cuomo is basically the Donald Trump of the left, making our state more and more fascist. He’s no progressive leader, I have little hope of him fixing healthcare with a strong single-payer system or taking bold steps on climate change.

As previously noted, next Monday is Veterans Day Observed (Monday) πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ when the sun will be setting at 4:42 pm with dusk at 5:12 pm. On that day in 2017, we had mostly sunny skies and temperatures between 44 and 22 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 49 degrees. We hit a record high of 68 back in 1909.

October 29, 2018 11 PM Update

Good evening! Light rain and 40 degrees in North Syracuse. β˜” There is a west breeze at 8 mph. 🍃. Kind of a dreary day but we get a break from it tomorrow. The skies will clear tomorrow around 8 am.

Tonight will have a chance of rain showers before 5am, then a slight chance of rain and snow showers. Cloudy β˜” , with a low of 37 degrees at 4am. One degree above normal. West wind 6 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Little or no snow accumulation expected. In 2017, we had light rain and mist in the evening, remaining overcast into the early morning. It got down to 47 degrees. The record low of 20 occurred back in 1969.

Tonight will have a Waning Gibbous Moon 🌖 with 67% illuminated. The moon will set at 1:25 pm. The Last Quarter Moon will be tomorrow with showers. The Beaver Moon 🌝 is on Thursday, November 22nd. The sun will rise at 7:36 am with the first light at 7:07 am, which is one minute and 16 seconds later than yesterday. 🌄 Tonight will have 13 hours and 37 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 41 seconds over last night. Mornings are so dark these days. When I’m out camping a week and a half from now it will be many mornings getting up in the dark.

Tomorrow will be mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny 🌞 , with a high of 47 degrees at 2pm. Seven degrees below normal. West wind 6 to 9 mph. A year ago, we had cloudy skies. The high last year was 70 degrees. The record high of 80 was set in 1946. 0.1 inches of snow fell back in 1925.❄

Right now, a split verdict on the GOTV weekend. πŸ˜• Saturday, a chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 51. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 52. Well, that sounds nice for a change. Typical average high for the weekend is 53 degrees.

Always gets cold and dark fast this time of year. But it will still be nice to be back out in the wilderness in a week and a half.β›Ί It seems like with work and the cloudy and rainy autumn, it’s just disappeared so quickly. 🍂

Busy day today at work. But things are getting done that need to get done. 💼 But I’m ready for it to be done, a good job that pays for after careful planning and action. On the blog, I fixed one more issue with the SSL change over, which wasn’t that difficult but still involved addressing many minor issues.

Looking forward not just to my road trip but my many electronics projects I’m planning for the winter. 📺 I’m not a big fan of soldering but I enjoy the coding and building interesting projects that serve my unique needs. I don’t like off the shelf things that don’t really serve my needs. But first some great nights in the wilderness next to the campfire. 🔥

In four weeks on November 26 the sun will be setting at 4:32 pm (Standard Time),🌄 which is one hour, 27 minutes and 23 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2017 on that day, we had rain, drizzle, cloudy skies and temperatures between 46 and 35 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 44 and 29 degrees. The record high of 67 degrees was set back in 1979.

Looking ahead, Veterans Day Observed (Monday) 🇺🇸 is in 2 weeks, Cyber Monday 🛍️ is in 4 weeks, New Years Eve 🎆 is in 9 weeks and 36th Birthday 🎉 is in 3 months.

Nine weeks to New Years Evening. That’s really surprising how fast the year is coming to a close. 🎇 One year closer to my life goals, one more year of saving and investing, working for a better tomorrow. And some great adventures that I enjoyed even if it’s been so wet and cloudy much of the summer.

Late afternoon

October 28, 2018 Morning

Good morning! Happy Sunday. Next Sunday the Daylight Savings Time Bites the Dust πŸŒ‡. Yeap, it will be dark an hour earlier come next Sunday. I guess I can’t complain, it means I can sleep in an additional hour. Light drizzle and 38 degrees in North Syracuse. β˜” There is a west-southwest breeze at 7 mph. πŸƒ. 0.29 inches of rain is expected before it ends Tuesday around 7 am. See eventually the rain will come to an end, even in Trump’s America.🌧

Today will have showers likely with patchy drizzle before 10am, then showers likely, mainly between 10am and noon. Patchy fog before 10am. Otherwise, cloudy , with a high of 44 degrees at 4pm. 11 degrees below normal. West wind 7 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies with more clouds in the afternoon. The high last year was 67 degrees. The record high of 78 was set in 1971. 2 inches of snow fell back in 1952.❄

The sun will set at 6:01 pm with dusk around 6:30 pm, which is one minute and 24 seconds earlier than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for rain ☁ and 43 degrees. There will be a south-southwest breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 10 hours and 25 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 39 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a chance of showers, mainly between 10pm and 4am, then rain likely after 4am. Cloudy β˜” , with a low of 39 degrees at 6am. Three degrees above normal. South wind 3 to 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2017, we had cloudy skies. It got down to 59 degrees. The record low of 19 occurred back in 1969.

There are 9 days, 11 hours and 8 minutes until the poll close on Election Day in New York. πŸ—³ I filled out my absentee ballot and plan to drop it off later on today. To keep things interesting, I voted for a libertarian, two green party candidates, two working family party candidates, two conservative party candidates, a reform party candidate, a independence party candidate, and a women equality party candidate. I enjoy empowering obscure despots, it’s the New York way.

I did end up voting for Larry Sharpe for Governor, mainly because I was so disappointed with Marc Molinaro after the Gubernatorial debate, 🐘 and honestly I could not bring myself to vote for a former RACC client for governor. I’m sure the other guy who I’ve never voted for will win the governorship easily.🀑 Honestly, I don’t take politics all that seriously these days. Most things in government are done and decided by administrative bureaucrats, not the comedians that entertain people on the screen. Living in deep blue country in suburban Albany County, it’s not like my vote makes a whole big deal.πŸ“¬

There’s been a lot of talk about the news lately. But I don’t really care. πŸ€·β€ My feeling is that most of the news stories are blown out of proportion to sell laundry soap and crappy Korean cars. I don’t follow the news carefully, except for what I need to be up on for work.πŸ“° Everything else to me is just noise. I’m more interested in conservation, protecting our natural resources, and history then anything that a TV anchor will scream about for many hours with fancy colorful pictures.Β πŸ“Ί I really have very little opinion on the issues of the day, although in recent years I think I’ve started to become more conservative,Β but I find it hard to believe much of the non-sense and bloviating of President Trump.πŸ€”

In 1956, Elvis Presley receives a polio vaccination on national TV. πŸ’‰ This single event is credited with raising immunization levels in the United States from 0.6% to over 80% in just six months. I still need to get my flu shot. I really should do that sooner then later, so I don’t get sick. Their is a pharmacy down the road from my office, maybe if the rain lets up I’ll get my flu shot and drop my absentee ballot off at the same time. πŸ’‘Many people don’t believe in science, but I sure do, even if I reject modernity with it’s bright colors flashing on the television screen. πŸ”¬ Science can educate the pros and cons of any action, although it can’t tell us if something is right or wrong.

As previously noted, next Sunday is Daylight Savings Time EndsΒ πŸŒ‡ when the sun will be setting at 4:51 pm with dusk at 5:21 pm (Standard Time). On that day in 2017, we had partly cloudy skies and temperatures between 50 and 33 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 53 degrees. We hit a record high of 76 back in 1994.

And two weeks from now will be my second or third day on my road trip. πŸ•Hopefully it won’t be as cold and wet as this weekend. Looking forward to having some good meals not from a can, πŸ₯«doing some baking and cooking over the camp stove. πŸ• Even pizza tastes better cooked out at camp, at least in my opinion.
