May 12, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Mothers Day ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€! Time for some motherly love and Frank Zappa records. ๐Ÿ˜ Five weeks to Fathers Day ๐Ÿ‘จ. Cloudy, damp and 47 degrees โ˜ There is a east breeze at 9 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The skies will clear Wednesday around 11 am. Maybe. That said the 8-14 day outlook suggests warm and dry weather for Memorial Day Weekend but things are subject to change.

Its kind a damp morning as was predicted but the rain seems done. ๐Ÿ’ฆ Laying back in the hammock, had some eggs ๐Ÿณ, warmed up my hands by the heater. I did turn on the truck for a while because the starting battery ๐Ÿ”‹was around 12.51 volts. Probably not required but I’d rather be safe than sorry.

In a bit I’m going to finish taking down camp and head fishing. ๐ŸŽฃ Later on I will probably go for a walk down to Rockwood Lake then head home. I think the rain is done for the day here. โ˜”

Today will have a chance of light rain. Cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a high of 49 degrees at 2pm. 19 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 27th. East wind around 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 50 degrees. The record high of 91 was set in 1881. There was a dusting of snow in 1996.โ„

The sun will set at 8:12 pm with dusk around 8:45 pm, which is one minute and 6 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for clouds โ˜ and temperatures around 44 degrees. There will be a east breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 35 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 13 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a chance of rain. Cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 40 degrees at 1am. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 24th. East wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2018, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 48 degrees. The record low of 30 occurred back in 2005.

Looking ahead, there are 5 weeks until Fathers Day ๐Ÿ‘จ when the sun will be setting at 8:40 pm with dusk at 9:16 pm. On that day in 2018, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 84 and 50 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 78 degrees. We hit a record high of 96 back in 1967. I could see a warm June after this rather cold and wet spring.

Patroon Island Bridge Reflects Onto the River

May 9, 2019 Night

Good evening! Rain showers and 57 degrees โ˜” Breezy, ๏ธ18 mph breeze from the south-southeast ๐ŸŒฌ with gusts up to 29 mph ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ. You can hear the wind blowing around. The skies will clear Saturday around 2 am.

I went over to John Wolcott’s house for a while to keep going through his files. ๐Ÿ“‚ I found a few interesting tidbits and a lot of other random stuff that both of us struggled to figure out. Never know what you will find in the archives. I’m more interested in contemporary history although lately I’ve not seen much of that in the boxes.

John was saying Another Save the Pine Bush person is donating their family land to conservation. ๐ŸŒณI think that’s a wonderful thing to do. If some day I own 50 or 100 acres of a mountain somewhere it would be nice to donate it to a state forest preserve after my time has gone and the house is burned to the ground and the foundation backfilled in. It’s not like I’m going to need it when my time is thru.

Tonight will have a chance of showers, mainly after midnight. Cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 52 degrees at 3am. Seven degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 30th. South wind 15 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 56 degrees. The record low of 28 occurred back in 1958.

Tonight will have a Waxing Crescent Moon ๐ŸŒ’ with 39% illuminated with the moon setting at 12:58 am. The moon will set at 1:00 am. The First Quarter Moon will be tomorrow with mostly cloudy skies. The Flower Moon ๐ŸŒ is on Friday, May 17th. The sun will rise at 5:38 am with the first light at 5:07 am, which is one minute and 11 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ Tonight will have 9 hours and 33 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 15 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have showers likely, with thunderstorms also possible after 5pm. Cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 66 degrees at 5pm. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 5th. Maximum dew point of 57 at 4pm. South wind around 14 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. I think the Western Adirondacks may have more. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 73 degrees. The record high of 92 was set in 1970. 5.0 inches of snow fell back in 1945.โ„

I decided to call off the weekend trip. Saturday may be half decent but the inch plus of rain we may get tomorrow – especially in the Western Adirondacks – doesn’t sound real nice. โ›บ Unless a campsite is well drained, it’s going to be saturated as will all the wood for burning. ๐Ÿ”ฅ I am a little worried about the campsites at Stewart Landing being really wet, as I don’t think they are particularly well drained and there always is some big mud puddles back there, and honestly the ground is not really firm as snow has been gone from that area less than a month now. Plus parking tomorrow in the city with the tulip festival ๐ŸŒท would be a female dog ๐Ÿถ.

Right now, a split verdict on the weekend. ๐Ÿ˜• Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 62. Northwest wind 14 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph. Saturday doesn’t look bad but the woods will be so wet. Maximum dew point of 41 at 6am. Maybe I could hike Platte Kill Road in West Saugerties through the gorge? Sunday, a slight chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 58. Chance of precipitation is 20%. Typical average high for the weekend is 68 degrees. I’ll take it one day at a time I guess. I’m hoping now for better weather come Memorial Day Weekend.

I’d love to have a big ass fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ and drink some beer ๐Ÿป but things can wait until Memorial Day Weekend. Probably black flies will be bad that weekend ant ๐Ÿœ but that’s what staying up late is all about. Hopefully the ground will dry out by then. If

After reading that Bloomberg article ๐Ÿ“ฐ on wealthy hermits without wills I’m actually kind of fascinated by the topic – and hermits more generally. I know that I at some point should write a will ๐Ÿ“, especially as I acquire property and would like it eventually to be public land ๐ŸŒฒfor hunting and recreation. I really like the idea of the simple life, living in the backwoods without all the material crap of modernity. Maybe a 4×4 truck, al tractor ๐Ÿšœ and an ATV but duck a television ๐Ÿ“บ or home internet.

In four weeks on June 6 the sun will be setting at 8:30 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 25 minutes and 38 seconds later then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 72 and 48 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 75 and 54 degrees. The record high of 94 degrees was set back in 1925.

I am thinking now about a June trip to Moss Island. ๐ŸŒผ It will be warmer than and maybe more wildflowers at that point. I believe Green Acres dairy bar ๐Ÿฆwill be open and I can grab a burger ๐Ÿ” after hiking and then camp โ›บ up on Piseco Powley Road and if it’s warm enough out cool off in the potholers.

Looking ahead, Average High is 70 ๐Ÿฎ is in 1 weeks, Summer ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ is in 6 weeks, Independence Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ is in 8 weeks, August ๐ŸŒป is in 12 weeks and Last Sunset After 7 PM ๐ŸŒ† is in 21 weeks.

Fourth and final night at Chicken Co-op Rd

May 8, 2019 Night

Good evening! Mostly clear and 57 degrees. There is a north-northeast breeze at 8 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. With that breeze it’s kind of chilly this evening and it’s only going to be cooler come later tonight. I went down to the park for a while with a book ๐Ÿ“™ but left relatively early as it was a bit cool there. Reading an interesting book about the history of Tammany Hall, the club house where many of the most powerful democrats of the twentieth century met. I’m not really into contemporary politics but history is fascinating.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 38 degrees at 5am. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 18th. North wind 5 to 8 mph becoming calm after midnight. I’m going to leave my windows open but I expect it to be cold when I awake. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 53 degrees. The record low of 27 occurred back in 1956.

Tonight will have a Waxing Crescent Moon ๐ŸŒ’ with 28% illuminated with the moon setting at 12:03 am. Kind of a pretty sliver tonight. The moon will rise at 9:30 am. The First Quarter Moon is on Friday night. The Flower Moon ๐ŸŒ is on Friday, May 17th. The sun will rise at 5:40 am with the first light at 5:08 am, which is one minute and 12 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ Tonight will have 9 hours and 35 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 17 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 63 degrees at 3pm. Four degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 27th. East wind 5 to 9 mph becoming south in the afternoon. That’s actually nicer than I expected. I’ll take it. Shitter weather for Friday but even that has improved a bit. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 82 degrees. The record high of 93 was set in 1979. 1.6 inches of snow fell back in 1977.โ„

I’ve been watching a lot more videos on UTVs and tractors ๐Ÿšœ lately. Utility tractors for landowners and small scale farming is a lot more affordable than you might think. If you’re not running a dairy operation, or something that requires pulling a big mothboard plow or a 30 ton manure spreader you don’t need a big John Deere 4050 (to say nothing of the real big machines some farmers run). Learning about the technology of farming and land management is fascinating, there are so many implents out there for folks who work the land. I live in the city ๐ŸŒ† but I eventually hope to move out and have my own land. It’s tough though, life may be expensive in New York but my family is here ๐Ÿ‘ช and to make the money I currently make in a small town would be difficult. I try to invest as much as I can for tomorrow though, so I can make the world I see on YouTube farm, homestead, an off grid channels an eventual reality. ๐Ÿฎ

I re-read my insurance policy and glass is covered under comphrensive insurance. ๐Ÿ“ƒ That said, it looks like from the quotes I’ve seen I could get better coverage for a lower price from competitors. I think I would want a better accessory coverage and maybe even higher liability if I can afford it. I could change mid term but I think I’d rather spend some more time researching and just stick with what I have now rather than pay for a different policy and wait for my existing insurance to be canceled and reimburse me. ๐Ÿ’ต I have my defensive driving certificate now, so I can use it but I’m not sure if they will give me a discount on what I’ve already paid. I actually noticed my premium from last September dropped despite my certificate expiring as I turned 36 in January and have 18 years of no crashes or tickets that are my fault.

Right now, a split verdict on the weekend. ๐Ÿ˜• Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 60. Sunday, a chance of rain after 8am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 57. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Typical average high for the weekend is 68 degrees.

I am on the fence about the weekend. Friday still looks pretty yucky but Saturday is improving again. โ›… I just know things will be wet up north after all the rain and by now the black flies may be out. I need to decide by morning. I know if I don’t get out of town this weekend the next chance will be Memorial Day Weekend. I don’t know.

If I go up to Stewart Landing there is a darn good chance of there being nobody up at those campsites โ›บ but I wonder how soft the sites will be from all the rain. I don’t want to set up in the rain and honestly I’m not convinced there will be a lot of sun this weekend. Maybe it’s just better to wait for nicer, warmer weather.

In four weeks on June 5 the sun will be setting at 8:29 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 26 minutes and 4 seconds later then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had partly sunny skies, rain showers and temperatures between 64 and 48 degrees. Cold last year. Typically, you have temperatures between 75 and 53 degrees. The record high of 97 degrees was set back in 1925.

Looking ahead, 8:30 PM Sunset ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ is in 4 weeks, Last Day of Session ๐Ÿ› is in 6 weeks, Altamont Fair Opens ๐ŸŽก is in 14 weeks, State Fair Opens ๐ŸŽก is in 15 weeks, September 11th ๐Ÿ‡ธ is in 18 weeks, More Night then Day ๐ŸŒŒ is in 20 weeks and Inauguration Day 2021 ๐Ÿ‘ด๐Ÿป is in 89 weeks.

Tulip Bed

May 3, 2019 Night

Good evening! Light rain and 55 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜” There is a south breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 52 degrees. The skies will clear Sunday around 11 pm. Just for the end of the weekend.

I got home, had dinner and rode the exercise bike for a while ๐Ÿšฒ, almost an hour and a half. I rode while listening to Marketplace through my laptop and the radio adapter, then I watched a YouTube video I had downloaded on orienteering with a compass. For a lot of people that’s quaint with cellphone GPS ๐ŸŒ but I know most of the time I’m in the woods I use paper maps and just use visible landmarks to orient myself although sometimes I’ll use the compass but that’s rare. I went for my evening walk ๐Ÿšถ and it started to rain ๐Ÿ’ฆwhich meant I got wet on my way home. Then I retired to bed and read ๐Ÿ“– for a while. I’m tired ๐Ÿ˜ด and going to sleep shortly.

Tonight will have showers likely, mainly between 1am and 3am. Patchy fog before 3am, then patchy fog after 4am. Otherwise, cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 52 degrees at 6am. Eight degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical night around May 30th. Maximum dew point of 52 at 10pm. South wind 3 to 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. In 2018, we had light rain in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It became humid as the night progressed. It got down to 58 degrees. The record low of 28 occurred back in 1985.

Tonight will have a New Moon. The Flower Moon ๐ŸŒ is in 2 weeks. The sun will rise at 5:46 am with the first light at 5:15 am, which is one minute and 19 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ Tonight will have 9 hours and 46 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 24 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have a chance of showers, mainly before 7am. Patchy fog before 9am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 68 degrees at 5pm. Two degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical day around May 10th. Maximum dew point of 53 at 8am. North wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 84 degrees. The record high of 91 was set in 1944. There was a dusting of snow in 1986.โ„

Looking ahead to Sunday, a chance of rain before 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 65. โ˜ North wind around 5 mph becoming light and variable. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. Maximum dew point of 49 at 1pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 66 degrees.

In four weeks on May 31 the sun will be setting at 8:26 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 27 minutes and 55 seconds later then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had partly cloudy and temperatures between 79 and 61 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 74 and 52 degrees. The record high of 92 degrees was set back in 2013.

Looking ahead, Pack Rat Day ๐Ÿ€ is in 2 weeks, Memorial Day Weekend Starts ๐Ÿ•๏ธ in 3 weeks, Flag Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ is in 6 weeks, Dog Days of Summer ๐ŸŒป is in 9 weeks, Labor Day Weekend Begins ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿญ in 17 weeks, Last Sunset After 7 PM ๐ŸŒ† is in 5 months and Election Day 2020 ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ is in 18 months.

Looking Towards the Rapp Road Landfill

May 2, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Thursday on this second day of the month of May. Two weeks until the Average High is 70 ๐Ÿฎ. Gray and cloudy with a few drops of rain here and there around 54 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ Calm wind. The dew point is 50 degrees. Not much of a temperature change last night. The skies will clear Monday around noontime. Maybe. They are talking about a hot and dry summer but I take that as a grain of salt.

I made eggs for breakfast ๐Ÿณ and then walked down to the express bus ๐Ÿš. A bit damp and I wish there was a bit more sun but so be it. The bus was on time and I’m on my way to work.

Today will have a slight chance of showers between 9am and 1pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 62 degrees at 1pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical day around April 24th. Maximum dew point of 56 at 1pm. South wind 3 to 5 mph. Maybe a few breaks of sun late? Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 90 degrees. The record high of 90 was set in 2018. There was a dusting of snow in 1986.โ„

I am glad it’s no longer a session day, ๐Ÿ‘”although I guess l things considered it hasn’t been a terrible week. I wish it would be sunnier and nicer but beggers can’t be choosers. Not ninty degrees today but at least in the seventhies. My windows are open again. โฌ› This weekend I should probably wipe the kitchen and bathroom ๐Ÿšฝ down with bleach so no mildew pops up with the wet.

The sun will set at 7:56 pm with dusk around 8:27 pm, which is one minute and 7 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for mostly cloudy skies โ˜ and temperatures around 62 degrees. The dew point will be 52 degrees. There will be a east-southeast breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 9 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 27 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 50 degrees at 4am. Seven degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical night around May 24th. Southeast wind 5 to 7 mph. In 2018, we had mostly sunny. It got down to 61 degrees. The record low of 29 occurred back in 1966.

I added a low and high temperature function to the VMS sign I built at home. ๐Ÿ“Ÿ The next step is wire up and mount the outside temperature probe so I can monitor outside temperatures. Maybe this weekend.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Average High is 70 ๐Ÿฎ when the sun will be setting at 8:12 pm with dusk at 8:44 pm. On that day in 2018, we had partly sunny, patches of fog and temperatures between 72 and 51 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 70 degrees. We hit a record high of 89 back in 1991.

Also, seven weeks until summer. ๐ŸŒžI’m looking forward to it although spring has plenty to offer in the wilderness. I still want to get to Moss Island during the spring months. I didn’t get my turkey tag this year as I never get enough time in the woods but I can certainly camp and fish ๐Ÿ  during the spring time. Nights are getting pretty late at this point but the black flies are certain to be bad soon. ๐Ÿœ DEET works fairly good, I have bottles and bottles of it. Even so, black flies aren’t bad at night as they dissappear then and they aren’t too bad if you keep moving during the day.

 Frame 69

May 1, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy May ๐Ÿ•Š! How fast the time goes. Another month and Memorial Day will have come and gone and it will be June. Five weeks to 8:30 PM Sunset ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ. Cloudy, damp and 47 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ Calm wind. The skies will clear Sunday around 11 pm.

Today will have a chance of showers, mainly before noon. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 53 degrees at 4pm. 12 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 4th. Kind of a cold and gray day to start out May for sure. Light and variable wind becoming southeast 6 to 11 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. I bought my umbrella but I’m not sure I’ll need it. A year ago, we had mostly sunny in the morning, which became partly cloudy by afternoon. The high last year was 74 degrees. The record high of 86 was set in 2001. There was a dusting of snow in 1978.โ„

Certainly not a real nice day ahead. ๐Ÿ’ก I think I’ll need my light on in the office when I get to work. That said being that it’s been above freezing for the most part in recent weeks and quite wet I expect things to continue to green up. I’m sure though that the aggie types kind of wish things would stop raining so they could do more field work. ๐ŸŒฑ๐ŸŒฝ I watch too many ag channels on Youtube, it’s a constant struggle as a farmer.

The sun will set at 7:55 pm with dusk around 8:26 pm, which is one minute and 7 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for rain showers, clouds ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 52 degrees. Breezy, 17 mph breeze xd from the south-southeast with gusts up to 29mph. Today will have 14 hours and 6 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 29 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms before midnight, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between midnight and 5am, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 5am. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 48 degrees at 12am. Five degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 18th. South wind 12 to 17 mph decreasing to 5 to 10 mph after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2018, we had cloudy in the evening, which became mostly sunny by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 45 degrees. The record low of 29 occurred back in 1974.

Yesterday was pay day ๐Ÿ’ต which is good because after the first day of the month and the many costs of April there wasn’t a lot left over. I guess having unappropriated money is problematic but things were tighter then I would wish. Then again, I’m just so focused on the day when I can finally own land, live off-grid in the wilderness, manage my own waste, raise and hunt animals for food, ๐Ÿ own toys like tractors and four wheeler. ๐Ÿšœ

I heard CDTA is switching to a new vendor and I need to update my credit card on their website ๐Ÿ’ณ so that my Navigator card continues to be refilled. I bet this will lead to many unpleasant surprises for many people. The key is now to remember my password. I think I have it saved somewhere in an encrypted file.

I am still undecided about Memorial Day Weekend. โ›บ I’m not sure if I want to go to Vermont this year – I’m thinking a bit about the East Branch again but in a different campsite. The weather is often so sucky that weekend with lots of black flies. ๐Ÿœ

One month ๐Ÿ“… from now will be June ๐Ÿน when the sun will be setting at 8:26 pm with dusk at 9:00 pm. Nice long days during that month.

 Oxbow Pond Outhouse

April 26, 2019 Afternoon

Good afternoon! Cloudy, damp with rain showers around and 55 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜” There is a southeast breeze at 13 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 49 degrees. Temperatures will drop below freezing at Monday around 3 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

As I had pretty much planned since mid week I’m back home from my two nights in the Adirondacks. โ›บ Yes I can camp in the pouring rain, I have tarps the heater and could build a big fire but do I really want to? I would have stayed north had things cleared out tomorrow but it looks like most of the day tomorrow in the Adirondacks will be bitterly cold with the wind and damp ground with very little sun expected.๐Ÿ’ฆ Rather than be crouched over a propane heater, spending the day adjusting a tarp to avoid leaks and dumping off the accumulated puddle of rain, I figure it best to come home and get unpacked ๐Ÿก. Yesterday was a great day, and I got two nights camping so that was a good time.

This afternoon will rain with possibly a thunderstorm between 1pm and 5pm, then a chance of rain and thunderstorms after 5pm. Cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a high of 60 degrees at 5pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical day around April 19th. Maximum dew point of 51 at 2pm. Southeast wind around 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had cloudy in the morning, which became partly cloudy by afternoon. The high last year was 56 degrees. The record high of 90 was set in 1990. .3 inches of snow fell back in 1993.โ„

The sun will set at 7:50 pm with dusk around 8:20 pm, which is one minute and 8 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and thunderstorms ๐ŸŒฉ and temperatures around 59 degrees. The dew point will be 51 degrees. There will be a southeast breeze at 13 mph. Today will have 13 hours and 54 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 36 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 2am, then a chance of showers. ๐ŸŒง Low of 48 degrees at 6am. Six degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical night around May 15th. Southeast wind 6 to 13 mph becoming southwest after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. In 2018, we had mostly clear in the evening, which became light rain by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 36 degrees. The record low of 26 occurred back in 1963.

It wasn’t a bad few days up north but this morning was unnecessarily wet for me as I didn’t take apart camp last night ๐ŸŒƒ before bed like I had planned. Not a big deal the only thing really wet was the flags and the bungee cords. They’re hanging up at home drying out now. Last night was pretty good, I made some pizza ๐Ÿ• up then had a fairly reasonable sized fire from the wood I chopped. The axe makes for much easier firewood ๐ŸŒฒprocessing. Solar worked okay but not great as there was too much shading in the campsite. If it had been a little warmer and the road was drier I would have camped back at the Fox Lair campsite especially now that I know there is fairly decent cell service there ๐Ÿ“ถ probably from Gore Mountain. It’s nice being able to check the weather and the news with the phone. ๐Ÿ“ฑ I’ll have to keep that campsite in mind come later in the summer.

The cellphone holder ๐Ÿ“ฑ I got from China continues to work quite well. It holds the phone very firmly no worries about it bouncing loose on the rough roads. I don’t touch my phone while driving but I like having WAZE and the bell ๐Ÿ”” that rings when you reach the speed limit. With cruise control working perfectly again on my truck, as soon as I hear the bell I hit the cruise control button and I don’t have to worry about speeding. I really like cruise control especially in the reduced speed zones. ๐Ÿš™

As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until Pack Rat Day ๐Ÿ€ when the sun will be setting at 8:13 pm with dusk at 8:45 pm. On that day in 2018, we had mostly cloudy skies and temperatures between 80 and 59 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 70 degrees. We hit a record high of 92 back in 2017.

 Mount Marcy
