June 9, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Sunday. Next Sunday is Fathers Day ๐Ÿ‘จ. Sunny and 50 degrees in Dormansville, NY. ๐ŸŒž There is a south-southwest breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. While a cold start to the morning — with very dry conditions continuing — it’s going to be much warmer later on. If not for it being such an unusually wet spring, it would be red flag conditions today.

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 79 degrees at 4pm. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 17th. Maximum dew point of 50 at 9am. South wind 5 to 10 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 80 degrees. The record high of 100 was set in 1933. Almost summer weather. Still two weeks until the pools open up for the summer though.

I’m at my parents house this morning in the truck camper shell, ๐Ÿ• and I’m still a bit undecided on the day. I might do the Gas Up, although I’m a bit tired as I’ve done it a lot in recent years. ๐Ÿšœย  I’m thinking of also doing some fishing and hiking for a while today at Partridge Run before going to the Gas Up.ย  Also considering — possibly — of hiking back to the Cliffs of Middleburg if I’m out that way. Then I have to head home, get my clothes ready for the week, run to the store, wash the truck. Should be a pretty nice day for sure, not too humid.๐Ÿ˜Ž

The sun will set at 8:32 pm with dusk around 9:06 pm, which is 35 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 67 degrees. The dew point will be 49 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 9 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 14 minutes of daytime, an increase of 46 seconds over yesterday. Should be another nice evening to sit out back if the bugs aren’t too bad.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 52 degrees at 5am. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around June 1st. Maximum dew point of 49 at 7pm. South wind 6 to 9 mph. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 54 degrees. The record low of 36 occurred back in 1975.

The replacement hammock seems to work well, at least with the straps and the bag from the other hammock. At under $20 I’m happy with what I got, even if it is a bit smaller (not by a lot). Supposedly it’s a double hammock, but I wouldn’t put more then one person in it. Seems basically the same material as the other hammock, although I prefer the steel carbiners (less chance of breakage), even if they are slightly heavier.๐Ÿ˜ด But at that price if it only last for a season or two, not a big deal. I might order a second one at some point, so I have a back up in case it rips.

I ordered one of those portable multi-cell USB 18650 battery banks that a lot of people have nowadays, the model my parents like.๐Ÿ”‹I think it would be nice to have while wilderness camping to charge up my phone when it goes flat or my radio. I am going to install another USB port — or maybe build something out of another USB charger I have — that would be always on in the cap of my truck, and leave it plugged in all of the time, ready to go in my truck. I could even use it while camping with my truck — just plug in my phone if I’m too far away from my truck to use the USB charging. With the solar panel on my truck, I’m less worried about vampire loads running down the accessory batteries upon long times parked.

On this day in 1972, severe rainfall causes a dam in the Black Hills of South Dakota to burst, creating a flood that kills 238 people and causes $160 million in damage. By far one of the most costly man-made disasters in American history. Flooding continues to be such a problem in America, probably only made worse by climate change.

Right now, looking into the long-range, Saturday with mostly sunny, with a high near 73. Maximum dew point of 57 at 8pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 78 degrees. Some other models predict it won’t be quite as nice next week, and certainly fairly cool at any rate. Bass season opens up next week, which is notable.๐Ÿก I think I may have to work, but I’ll take it one day at a time. The following weekend — with most beaches and pools open — would be nice to get away, even if it’s just an overnight trip to Burnt-Rossman.

As previously noted, next Sunday is Fathers Day ๐Ÿ‘จ when the sun will be setting at 8:35 pm with dusk at 9:10 pm. On that day in 2018, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 84 and 50 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 78 degrees. We hit a record high of 96 back in 1967.

Campsite Along Red River

June 2, 2019 Night

Good evening! Partly cloudy and 61 degrees in Dormansville, NY. โ›… There is a west-northwest breeze at 9 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 56 degrees. Not a terrible evening but the temperature is dropping quickly after a pretty warm day, especially mid-day. It didn’t get up to 80 degrees in my apartment today, but it did play around 79.5 degrees or so. Close enough, I guess. It wasn’t a bad weekend for sticking in town, and I got done the things that I needed to get done this weekend. Tonight, I’m staying over at the parents house with my truck camper. It’s a bit chilly of an evening, but not that bad.

It was kind of a busy weekend for me with all my projects, so I didn’t get out and do much big hikes,๐Ÿšถin part because every time I wanted to go out it looked like the sky could open up any minute.โ›ˆ I kind of got wet last night doing my evening walk, but it was nice earlier in the day on Saturday hiking in the Pine Bush, despite all of the stress of figuring out the battery thing and trying to return the hammock. ๐ŸŒฒ Those fields of lupine where beautiful! I accomplished most of my goals for the weekend. A few work things too, butย  they weren’t a big hassle and are just part of doing business this time of year.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 48 degrees at 5am. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 20th. Northwest wind 5 to 9 mph becoming calm after midnight. In 2018, we had partly cloudy skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 58 degrees. The record low of 36 occurred back in 1986.

Tonight will have a New Moon.๐ŸŒ‘ The Strawberry Moon ๐ŸŒ is in 2 weeks. The sun will rise at 5:20 am with the first light at 4:46 am, which is 26 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ Tonight will have 8 hours and 52 minutes of darkness, a decrease of one minute and 9 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have isolated showers after 2pm. Mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 61 degrees at 1pm. 14 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 22nd. West wind 8 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 76 degrees. The record high of 97 was set in 1925.

Today I added EEPROM functions to my display in my bedroom, adding the ability to record the daily high temperature and low temperature, along with maximum dew point and all time high and low. I also finished soldering on the waterproof temperature probe which I hooked up outside my bedroom ๐ŸŒก– and downloaded the libraries that I will need to make it work.โš™ I’m hoping to find some time to write code to add those functions to my display. I also ordered a few barometric pressure sensors from China (42 cents a piece!) as it would be nice to have that on my display in my bedroom — I”d like to be warned when a storm is approaching and the pressure is dropping, and likewise when fair conditions are expected. Sure I could get that information from the Internet and feed it into the display, except I choose not to have Internet at home except for my smartphone. Could I write an Android app to beam that up to my display — probably — but I don’t feel like digging that deep into the API.๐Ÿ’ป It’s kind of a crude display, but I find it entertaining to have all kinds of facts and silly quotes and the alike beaming across my room to my bed.

I didn’t have a lot of new and exciting content for the blog, although I did post a bunch of essays I’ve been working on over time, some of them a bit more political, but that’s fine. Tonight I tried to catch up, with a bunch of new content. I like to share my thoughts, and if they aren’t for you, that’s fine, feel free to skip on past them for other content or filter out just the maps and photos. I installed that second battery in my truck, which should make for much better results when doing extended camping trips, especially in shaded campsites. I probably should re-work or make some more maps up, but I’m kind of running out of ideas for maps for New York and I don’t really want to gather all the data necessary to make maps up of other states, especially places I don’t know well.๐Ÿ—บ

I am very happy with how things are preforming with the second accessory battery in the truck, as I noted earlier. ๐Ÿ”‹ While I haven’t really stressed the system yet with a heavy load at camp, it does seem like things are working really well, with stable voltages in the truck cap, and lots of storage so I should be able to go multiple nights, even in cloudy or rainy weather without having to start up the truck. Many times, especially when driving on nice days with the kayak off the roof of my truck, I think I’ll be able to leave the accessory power for the truck cap, CB radio, phone, and dashcam entirely disconnected from the alternator — solar does everything. That will keep the batteries from being overcharged or unbalanced and minimize the load on the alternator. I’ve notice no odors or issues from the battery being located in my sleeping unit.

Next weekend looks like it might be perfect weather-wise. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Next Saturday, sunny, with a high near 76. Maximum dew point of 52 at 7pm. Next Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 75. Maximum dew point of 56 at 5pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 76 degrees. I’m not planning to head out of town next weekend but I could change my mind. I’m thinking in participating in one of the trail day events, and maybe the Gas Up on Sunday. I could go out camping but I think I’d rather wait. I’ll have o think about it some more, but I expect a busy week this week, so I don’t want to be running around to head out of town this weekend. Plus, I honestly don’t trust we will have real nice weather by next weekend, as the forecast will certainly shift downward, as so often happens with the weekend forecasts lately. I guess I could head out of town next weekend, but I just don’t see it likely, as I kind of want to be home early on Sunday as Monday is my oil change/tire rotation day (NOT a SESSION DAY!).

I’ll have to research some hammocks to replace the ripped one. I’m very disappointed about the quality of the LL Bean one I bought but I’ve seen a lot of affordable options on the Internet — affordable for me being sub-$50. If you pay premium, you’d hope they stand behind their products. But corporate profits are more important now. I probably would like to have to relax and maybe camp in by the next time I head out of town in two weeks or so.๐Ÿ’ค The one I had was a disaster ever since I bought it, so I’m going to look at alternatives. I have the straps and the carbineners, so I just need the hammock itself. And I like the hammocks enough, that even if I have to replace them time to time, I guess it’s worth it. Maybe I’ll be gentler on my next one. Figuring gasing up my truck costs over $60, I can’t complain that much about other ordinary camping expenses.

The stuff I’ve bought from LL Bean lately has been all crap lately,๐Ÿ’ฉ so I’m thinking I’ll probably just cancel my credit card with them, and take full advantage of the bank rewards card I currently use with the cash back. I’ve earned like $200 in statement credits over the past year with that card — just buying the normal things I buy like gas, food and supplies, and I don’t spend a lot of money.๐Ÿ’ณ It’s not a lot of money, but it’s still nice to gather a few pennies for things I was going to buy at rate. I don’t go out of the way to get rewards, I just buy the ordinary stuff I need to live. It’s nice it’s just points that I can convert to statement credit on my card — and it’s real money used to pay my purchases. Not a lot, but every buck helps.

In four weeks on June 30 the sun will be setting at 8:37 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 9 minutes and 36 seconds later then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had hot, humid weather with mostly sunny skies and temperatures between 94 and 64 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 81 and 60 degrees. The record high of 98 degrees was set back in 1964.

Looking ahead, Fathers Day ๐Ÿ‘จ is in 2 weeks, National Nude Day ๐Ÿ‘ฑ is in 6 weeks (skinny dipping is fun), Sunset Before 7:30 PM ๐ŸŒ† is in 13 weeks, Labor Day ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿญ is in 3 months, Autumn ๐Ÿ‚ is in 16 weeks (yeap, it’s coming) and Average High is 60 ๐Ÿ‚ is in 19 weeks.

Sandy Bank of Cheney Pond

May 20, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. Next Monday is Memorial Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ. Rain showers and clouds and 74 degrees waiting for the bus at the Valero. โ˜” There is a south-southwest breeze at 9 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 63 degrees. I think it’s the first time we’ve had dew points in the sixties this year. Definitely damp in my apartment, the humidity sensor says it’s closer to a dew point of 65 inside with a humidity of 80%. I’m glad I wired that up in my VMS display. The skies will clear around noontime.

So it’s the work week before the holiday weekend, heading downtown. ๐Ÿš I caught the later bus downtown this morning as I had trouble getting going on this rainy morning in my truck cap but so be it. It wasn’t a bad night sleeping — some heavy rain during the night and some flashes of lighting — but in general a nice night. My parents did make a nice breakfast. ๐Ÿณ It was a dark and rainy morning then when I got home and the floors were wet from the humidity but at least my VMS display is working well since I added that transistor to refresh the display and clear out any invalid data. The trick with the transistor was to put the display into sleep mode, cut power, and then wake it up from sleep mode once power was restored — sticking in a 10 millisecond delay — to get a full refresh from any errors.

Today will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds. Partly sunny โ˜€, with a high of 83 degrees at 2pm. 12 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around July 13th. Too bad I have to work and with everything being so wet this morning it feels like a swamp. Maximum dew point of 64 at 10am. Hopefully things will dry up later today. Southwest wind 9 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 75 degrees. The record high of 91 was set in 1962.

The sun will set at 8:16 pm with dusk around 8:49 pm, which is one minute later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for partly clear skies – wait for it – with a chance of thunderstorms ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 67 degrees. In case you mud was getting dehydrated says the internet meme. The good news is that cool dry air will be pushing into so things will hopefully be nice. The dew point will be 53 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 13 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 48 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 52 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a slight chance of showers before 10pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 50 degrees at 5am. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 24th. Northwest wind 11 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 47 degrees. The record low of 32 occurred back in 1949.

I’m going to change the code on my VMS display in my bedroom to take the average of the temperature from the clock chip and the DHT 11 sensor. It seems like the clock chip rides a few degrees too high and the humidity DHT 11 runs too low compared to the mercury thermometer on my wall. I think it’s heat from the circuits ๐Ÿ’ซ that’s causing the too high readings. I also have an external temperature probe that I want to wire up outside, to get an outside temperature reading, and also add code to reset the day’s recorded high and low temperature, at midnight each night.

I have many options for the long weekend โ›บ and I’ve been leaning against more going up to the East Branch because I was just up there. I might back country tent ๐ŸŽช camp locally if I don’t want to deal with so many black flies ๐Ÿœ or maybe go back up to Vermont where I’ve been spending a lot of holiday weekends lately. The problem with VEE-mont is I don’t have a fishing license for there but the Grout Pond swimming beach is nice. Not sure if it’s going to be that warm out this weekend but I would like to camp somewhere I have cellphone ๐Ÿ“ฑ reception, lots of sun for solar and maybe some swimming ๐ŸŠ and fishing ๐ŸŽฃ opportunities.

As previously noted, next Monday is Memorial Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ when the sun will be setting at 8:22 pm with dusk at 8:56 pm. On that day in 2018, we had rain showers, partly sunny and temperatures between 68 and 54 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 73 degrees. We hit a record high of 94 back in 1914.

Staats Island Road

May 16, 2019 Night

Good evening! Partly clear and 62 degrees Calm wind.๐ŸŽ‘ The dew point is 41 degrees. A fairly nice spring evening but the air is a bit pungent with manure with the farm down the road spreading. ๐Ÿ’ฉBeen tough on anyone that does field work this spring. It’s just been so wet, in most of the country. ๐Ÿ’ฆ Rain again om Friday and probably Sunday too. Go figure.

I was quite concerned about delays getting home with the Corporation Challenge Run. ๐Ÿƒ It was a beautiful day for the run for sure, but often it messed up the buses a lot. But this year, the express bus was only about 10 or 15 minutes late, and I was home by six, so not a big deal.๐ŸšŒ Traffic on the outbound was lighter then expected, and all and it, it’s a very nice evening.

But tonight is nice. ๐Ÿ‘ Sitting out back with the almost full moon. I hooked up the laser firefly light show out back. Kind of pretty watching the flicker on the ground although the real thing is even better. ๐Ÿ Been such a cold spring that I bet the real fireflies will be late this year. I hear deer in the woods, a bird chirping in the distance and lots of motor vehicles. ๐Ÿ I live on the outskirts of the city but still close enough for transit.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 49 degrees at 5am. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 21st. Calm wind becoming southeast around 5 mph after midnight. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 59 degrees. The record low of 30 occurred back in 1959.

Tonight will have a Waxing Gibbous Moon ๐ŸŒ” with 99% illuminated. The moon will set at 5:05 am. The ๐ŸŒ• will be tomorrow with a chance of showers. The sun will rise at 5:31 am with the first light at 4:58 am, which is 59 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ Tonight will have 9 hours and 18 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes over last night.

Tomorrow will have showers likely, mainly between 10am and 3pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 72 degrees at 5pm. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 23rd. Maximum dew point of 58 at 4pm. South wind 6 to 11 mph becoming light and variable. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. Well, it was a nice break in the rain for a change. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 80 degrees. The record high of 92 was set in 2017.

The Pine Bush display was much more ready to go then I expected this year. ๐ŸŒฒI did send some handouts to be made up at the copy shop. Hopefully I made up enough, it’s kind of expensive to do the copying even on lightweight paper. At least its all ordered and I can pick it up tomorrow. ๐Ÿ“‘ Then it’s the long day at the Lupine Festival but hopefully I’ll have some help. I just hate to spend money ๐Ÿ’ต on something that’s going to be thrown away.

So much for that super nice weekend. ๐Ÿ˜• Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 67. Northwest wind around 8 mph. Maximum dew point of 46 at 7pm. Sunday, a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 79. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. Maximum dew point of 64 at 4pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 70 degrees.

After the Lupine Festival I’ll probably go for a walk and head home. ๐Ÿšถ If Sunday doesn’t look good I’ll just stay in town, run to the store then out to my parents house. Save gas for next weekend. โ›ฝ Not that I have super big plans for Memorial Day Weekend, at best it’s back up to the East Branch to spend a few days swatting black flies. ๐Ÿœ

Definitely looking forward to warmer weather and nights in the wilderness. โ›บ I’ve already gotten two weekends in this year but there are more to come. This might be my second to last year of doing these trips if I decide to go car less in 2021, but I want to wait and see what tomorrow brings. I like traveling but I hate the scams, awful people on the automobile industry. I could save so much money by going car lees for a few years and reduce my carbon footprint ๐Ÿ‘ฃ enormously.

In four weeks on June 13 the sun will be setting at 8:34 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 22 minutes and 6 seconds later then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had rain and temperatures between 75 and 60 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 77 and 56 degrees. The record high of 94 degrees was set back in 1892.

I still can’t believe what an idiot Trump ๐ŸŽบ is with his tarrifs. In the mid term the presidents actions are eventually going to be be so bad for the economy. ๐Ÿ“‰ We should be building bonds with other countries, tearing down trade barriers and walls, bringing the globe together not splitting it apart. ๐ŸŒ Ignoring our global problems aren’t going to make them go away.

Looking ahead, Fathers Day ๐Ÿ‘จ is a month away, Summer ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ is in 5 weeks, Independence Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ is in 7 weeks, Last Sunset After 8:30 PM ๐ŸŒ† is in 2 months, August ๐ŸŒป is in 11 weeks and Last Sunset After 7 PM ๐ŸŒ† is in 20 weeks.

Reflections

May 15, 2019 Morning

Good morning! What day is it? Save the Pine Bush Dinner Day, of course. Adam’s lasagna is pretty darn good. Reszin used to make good lasagna but she’s be promoted to greeter now that she’s well into her nineties. It’s a shit ton of cooking. Three weeks to 8:30 PM Sunset ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ. Partly cloudy and 44 degrees โ›… There is a northwest breeze at 7 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. It’s hard to complain about the sunshine after all rain, it will be nice when I get in the office to enjoy just the natural sunlight. Maybe more rain on Friday but it seems like the cold and wet pattern is coming to a conclusion for at least a while.

Today will be partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 61 degrees at 5pm. Eight degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 22nd. Northwest wind 7 to 10 mph. At that will help dry out the mud a little bit. I think it was a good year to buy those farm boots. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, which became partly cloudy by afternoon. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 77 degrees. The record high of 93 was set in 1900.

Looking up at the clouds as they pass the bus ๐Ÿš heading downtown I’m dreaming of laying out at the beach or swimming ๐ŸŠ pool watching the clouds float above. Mine Kill State Park is always a lot of fun mid summer, especially if combined with other activities including fishing and camping. What a day for a day dream, singing ๐ŸŽถ the Loving Spoonful record. Summer will be here before you know it. Its kind of amazing that it’s mid May and we have yet to have a real hot and humid day. But I think the weather pattern is changing.

The sun will set at 8:11 pm with dusk around 8:43 pm, which is one minute and 3 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for partly cloudy โ›… conditions and temperatures around 57 degrees. There will be a west breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 38 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 4 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 49 degrees at 4am. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 21st. Days have been cool lately but nights have been warm. Despite the rainy and cloudy weather keeping the high temperatures modest, when you look at the balance of day, it’s mostly been above average. Not as hot as last May but still pretty warm. West wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 51 degrees. The record low of 33 occurred back in 1980.

Tonight I’m getting the Pine Bush display to work on it. I’ve been told it’s kind of a mess but I’m hoping to get some new pictures ๐Ÿ“ท which I can hopefully order online, get laminated and pick up on Friday night. The Lupine Festival should be fun or at least something that has to be done. ๐ŸŽจ

As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until 8:30 PM Sunset ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ with dusk at 9:04 pm. On that day in 2018, we had partly sunny, rain showers and temperatures between 64 and 48 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 75 degrees. We hit a record high of 97 back in 1925.

 Wet Trees

May 13, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. Two weeks to Memorial Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ. Despite the cold and wet spring, making farmers and everybody else life miserable summer is coming. Cloudy, damp and 44 degrees in the land of the Delmaritian. โ˜ There is a east-southeast breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Rain this afternoon once again, I hope you brought your umbrella โ˜”. Maybe it’s an exaggeration but it sure feels like the sun ain’t going to shine again. The skies will clear Wednesday around 1 pm.

This morning I feel sick as a dog ๐Ÿถ but it’s off to work. Headache, body aches and a bit of a sore throat. But I’ve had this on and off for weeks now. I’m thinking it’s mold exposure from all the rain we’ve had lately in my shitty apartment and that and I hate Mondays. Hopefully this won’t last for long. It’s come and gone every week.

But I shouldn’t hate this week too much as tomorrow is a pay day, the first or second of the month depending on how you look at the calendar. ๐Ÿ’ต One week closer to a better tomorrow. I expect a busy day and I’m hoping to get out of work at a reasonable hour, so hopefully the day will go by quickly. No plans for the weekend yet, but I do have to prepare for the Lupine Festival and the Save the Pine Bush booth ๐Ÿฆ‹ on Saturday. The following weekend is Memorial Day Weekend.

Today will rain, mainly after 1pm. ๐ŸŒง High of 50 degrees at 1pm. 19 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 29th. East wind 5 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 68 degrees. The record high of 86 was set in 2004. There was a dusting of snow in 1953.โ„

The sun will set at 8:09 pm with dusk around 8:41 pm, which is one minute and 4 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 46 degrees. There will be a east breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 34 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 9 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will rain. ๐ŸŒง Low of 40 degrees at 6am. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 24th. North wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 54 degrees. The record low of 30 occurred back in 1996.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Memorial Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ when the sun will be setting at 8:22 pm with dusk at 8:56 pm. On that day in 2018, we had rain showers, partly sunny and temperatures between 68 and 54 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 73 degrees. We hit a record high of 94 back in 1914.

It looks like the weather forecast is improving for the long range. โ˜€ It might be a hot and dry start to June. I’m hoping for nice weather for Memorial Day Weekend but who knows at this point. At some point the weather will change. But regardless I expect a shit ton of black flies.๐Ÿœ At least they aren’t bad after dark. And they weren’t biting that much this weekend that was.

While I didn’t get to Moss Island this past weekend, I will probably head over to there sometime in June, ๐ŸŒผ as part of a trip to Piseco-Powley Road and the potholers. When I do that, I’ll probably also get a bite to eat for dinner at Green Acres drive-in and maybe hike a little bit of the Erie Canal Trail. Might be warm enough to kayak a bit in the Mohawk River too. Not totally sure which week though in June, because I also want to get up to Speculator and do some hiking and camping up along Perkins Clearing Road where I went on Labor Day Weekend last year.๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿ•

Almost to work… Time to end this blog post. Have a great day!

May 12, 2019 Night

Good evening! Yup, still raining and 43 degrees โ˜” in Delmar. Talk about a cold wet ending to the weekend.

But it was a nice weekend especially on Saturday up at Hildervandt Vly and the wilderness back country of the Southern Adirondacks. I’m thinking of doing more day hikes like that and some overnights when it warms up a bit more and the black fly season is done. A nice starry night in the wilderness in the hammock would be wonderful. โ›บ

While it was interesting driving through Tribes Hill and Fort Hunter, the bridge ๐ŸŒ‰ between the two is pretty narrow when two pickup trucks have to pass on it. Then I managed to make the wrong turn in Schenectady County and ended up in Mariaville and ended up taking the Thruway back home. At least traffic was light and the more rural parts of Schenectady County is remarkably scenic.

Sunday dinner at the folks house, Mother’s Day was meatballs riggis which was pretty good. ๐Ÿฒ Always a fun ending to the weekend.

Tonight will have patchy drizzle with a slight chance of showers after 2am. When it’s not raining look for clouds ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 40 degrees at 6am. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 24th. Light northeast wind. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2018, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 48 degrees. The record low of 30 occurred back in 2005.

Tonight will have a Waxing Gibbous Moon ๐ŸŒ” with 73% illuminated. The moon will set at 3:03 am. The Flower Moon ๐ŸŒ• is on Friday night with a chance of showers. The sun will rise at 5:35 am with the first light at 5:03 am, which is one minute and 6 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ Tonight will have 9 hours and 26 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 9 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have patchy drizzle with a chance of showers before 11am, then rain likely, mainly after 2pm. Cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 55 degrees at 2pm. 14 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 9th. East wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 68 degrees. The record high of 86 was set in 2004. There was a dusting of snow in 1953.โ„

I was a bit annoyed with the amount of litter ๐Ÿšฎ I saw in the woods over the weekend. You usually don’t see as much in more remote country as I saw up at the campsites at Stewart Landing and Rockwood Lake. Hiking along NY 8 was pretty bad too. I didn’t pick up everything I saw in Rockwood State Forest but I did pick up the multiple six pack rings that were along the road. I get it – not really the consumers fault but a society awash in oil and the byproducts of it – plastic but still how hard would have it been to at least burn it completely or pack it out?

The long range doesn’t look that great for next weekend but the Lupine Festival might be fun. ๐Ÿ˜ž Next Saturday, a chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 69. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Maximum dew point of 51 at 1pm. Next Sunday, a chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 69. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Maximum dew point of 54 at 1pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 70 degrees. At least by then the temperature will return close to normal.

In four weeks on June 9 the sun will be setting at 8:32 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 24 minutes and 15 seconds later then tonight. Almost the latest sunset of the year only gain about five minutes on that. In 2018 on that day, we had mostly sunny, shallow fog and temperatures between 80 and 52 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 76 and 55 degrees. The record high of 100 degrees was set back in 1933.

Looking ahead, Fathers Day ๐Ÿ‘จ is in 5 weeks, National Nude Day ๐Ÿ‘ฑ is in 9 weeks (skinny dipping?), Last Sunset After 8 PM ๐ŸŒ† is in 3 months, Sunset Before 7:30 PM ๐ŸŒ† is in 16 weeks, Autumn ๐Ÿ‚ is in 19 weeks and Average High is 60 ๐Ÿ‚ is in 22 weeks.
