Good evening! Cloudy, damp and humid and 72 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜๏ธ Calm wind. The dew point is 67 degrees. The skies will clear around 10 pm.

It was a nice weekend even if things didn’t totally go to plan. ๐Ÿ– Glimmerglass was nice, I had always wanted to check that out in the summer. The beach was pretty good, a rather large beach I have to say which made it not feel crowded despite being quite popular – social distancing was quite easy to follow. ๐Ÿ‘ฅ Otsego Lake is quite pretty this time of year compared to the autumn when it is quite gray.

Tonight will have a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms before 11pm. Mostly cloudy โ›ˆ๏ธ, with a low of 66 degrees at 4am. Seven degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 67 at 10pm. Calm wind. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2019, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 53 degrees. The record low of 42 occurred back in 1971.

Tonight will have a Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon with 30% illuminated. At 10 PM, the moon was in the west-southwest (250ยฐ) at an altitude of 6ยฐ from the horizon, some 226,602 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. ๐Ÿš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by February 11th. Buckle up for safety! ๐Ÿ’บ The moon will set in the west-southwest (256ยฐ) at 10:32 pm. The darkest hour is at 12:59 am, followed by dawn at 5:42 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:12 am in the east-northeast (74ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 1 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 4 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:50 am with sun in the east (80ยฐ). Tonight will have 10 hours and 28 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 41 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 1pm. Partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 87 degrees at 2pm. Eight degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 70 at 11am. Tomorrow is going to be super hot and humid for sure. Maybe some thunderstorm โ›ˆ will help cool things down. Calm wind becoming southwest around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 75 degrees. The record high of 95 was set in 1947.

I have that Zoom meeting tomorrow ๐Ÿ“น so I’ll have to shave and get cleaned up and go down to the library to do the meeting. It’s going to be absurdly hot but I guess I could work down at the park under a tree if it’s too uncomfortable. After the Zoom meeting I can come home I guess and work by the fan. โ˜ข๏ธ

In four weeks on September 20 the sun will be setting in the west (272ยฐ) at 6:55 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 48 minutes and 26 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had partly sunny, patches of fog and temperatures between 79 and 42 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 71 and 50 degrees. The record high of 90 degrees was set back in 1946.

After listening to the Off Farm Income Podcast ๐ŸŽง the other day and driving through rural Schoharie County I’m increasingly thinking ๐Ÿ’ญ I need to set harder goals towards owning my own land and moving out to the country. ๐Ÿšœ Affordable small towns in a low tax state – where I can buy land a lot of land cheap with saved up cash should be my priority. ๐Ÿก If the property is off grid and I don’t need many services then I can work a lower paid job and still live a good life out in the country with all the freedoms of small town living. ๐Ÿ Maybe 2030 is too soon ๐Ÿ”œ but I think 2035 is a very realistic option.

Looking ahead, Average High 70 ๐ŸŽ‘ is in 4 weeks, More Night then Day ๐ŸŒŒ is in 5 weeks, Last Sunset After 6:30 PM ๐ŸŒ† is in 6 weeks, November ๐Ÿฅง is in 10 weeks, First Sunday of Advent โœ๏ธ is in 15 weeks, Saint Nicholas Day ๐ŸŽ… is in 15 weeks, Festivus ๐Ÿ– is in 4 months, Latest Sunrise of the Winter ๐ŸŒ„๏ธ is in 19 weeks, National Cheese Lovers Day ๐Ÿง€ is in 5 months and Valentines Day โค๏ธ is in 25 weeks.

Good morning! Happy Sunday. โ›ช Four weeks to Average High 70 ๐ŸŽ‘ . Mostly sunny and 61 degrees at Burnt-Rossman State Forest. There is a south-southwest breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 60 degrees.

Nice start to the morning, โ˜€ going to take camp down relatively early then head up to Glimmerglass. It should be a nice summer day to explore the park, ๐Ÿž do some fishing ๐ŸŽฃ and go for a swim. ๐ŸŠ๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ I did check online to make sure the beach is open.

It was going to have eggs ๐Ÿฅš ๐Ÿณ this morning but I forgot to get pan spray or bring oil so I think instead I’ll have cereal ๐Ÿฅฃ and toast. Much quicker clean up and take down that way. I’m hoping to have camp taken down by nine 9โƒฃ o’clock.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 1:01 pm with sun having an altitude of 58.8ยฐ from the due south horizon (-12.2ยฐ vs. 6/21). At sunset, look for thunderstorms ๐ŸŒฉ and temperatures around 77 degrees. The dew point will be 63 degrees. There will be a southwest breeze at 7 mph. In 2019, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 53 degrees. The record low of 42 occurred back in 1971.

On this day in 1970, Cรฉsar Chรกvez’s Salad Bowl strike, the largest farm worker strike in U.S. history, begins.๐Ÿฅฆ๐Ÿฅ‘๐Ÿฅ•๐ŸŒฝ

Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until Average High 70 ๐ŸŽ‘ when the sun will be setting at 6:58 pm with dusk at 7:26 pm. On that day in 2019, we had partly sunny, patches of fog and temperatures between 79 and 42 degrees. We hit a record high of 90 back in 1946. ๐Ÿ‚ I bet by then there will be some good color at Moose River Plains.

August 22, 2020 Night

Good evening! Mostly clear and 67 degrees at the Burnt Rossman State Forest . Calm wind. ๐ŸŒƒ The dew point is 61 degrees.

Nice night up in the woods. ๐ŸŒŒ A lot of stars but with the humidity not as clear as you might think ๐Ÿค”. Maybe it would be nice if it was a tad bit warmer but no complaints there.

I was definitely disappointed that Mine Kill Pool ๐ŸŠ๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ was closed for the year well except for the dive tank and kiddy pool due to a maintenance issue. But that gives me an excuse to drive out to Cooperstown in the morning and try swimming at Glimmerglass State Park. Never swam in Otego Lake but it’s worth a try. It’s a ways out of the way but if I don’t go tomorrow it will be closed for the year in a few weeks.

I actually thought about going to Madison County to camp โ›บ but I bet Cherry Ridge ๐Ÿ’ will be packed as is a lot of the sites up at Burnt Rossman. From fisherman to people shooting in the gravel pit to hikers and bicyclists – including one riding past at 10 pm – it’s so busy up here. I look forward to things quieting down after Labor Day but will it? Or will just a lot of folks be out hunting? ๐ŸฆŒ ๐Ÿฆƒ Mine Kill State Park was packed too today. I still need to get my hunting license. ๐ŸŽซ

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 61 degrees at 3am. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around August 13th. Maximum dew point of 61 at 10pm. South wind 3 to 6 mph. In 2019, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 58 degrees. The record low of 44 occurred back in 1988.

Tonight will have a Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon with 20% illuminated. At 10 PM, the moon was in the west (263ยฐ) at an altitude of 1ยฐ from the horizon, some 226,288 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. ๐Ÿš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by February 10th. August 22, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Saturday. It’s the weekend! Today marks the final month of calendar summer, autumn is one month away on September 22nd. ๐Ÿ‚ After several days lately that felt like autumn, today is going to be a hit one. Partly sunny and 63 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜€ Calm wind. The dew point is 61 degrees.

The plan today is to head out to Schoharie County to swim ๐ŸŠ๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ and maybe some short hikes at Mine Kill State Park but nothing too dramatic as it’s going to be a balmy late summer afternoon. Pool opens at 10 am and closes at 6 pm but I’m okay with the earlier closing as it gets dark fairly early this time of year and it takes time to set up camp โ›บ and make dinner.

First thought I got to review the document ๐Ÿ“‚I’m working on for work and send that along. I got it last night and reviewed on my phone but if rather give it a fresh look on the laptop๐Ÿ”Ž in the morning. ๐ŸŒ… I want to run to the store return some beer cans ๐Ÿบand maybe get some hot dogs for dinner. ๐ŸŒญ Looking forward to all the goodies I can get at the farm stands in Schoharie. ๐ŸŒฝ๐Ÿฅฆ๐ŸŒถ๏ธ Should be a great day but hot. โ˜€

Today will have isolated showers between 1pm and 2pm, then isolated showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 85 degrees at 3pm. Five degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 66 at 11am. Muggy. Calm wind becoming west 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 85 degrees. The record high of 93 was set in 1916.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:59 pm with sun having an altitude of 59ยฐ from the due south horizon (-11.9ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 3.6 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:09 pm with the sun in the west (280ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (287ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:47 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 1 seconds with dusk around 8:15 pm, which is one minute and 35 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon in the west-southwest (246ยฐ) at an altitude of 19ยฐ from the horizon, 226,291 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:53 pm. At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 79 degrees. The dew point will be 64 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 13 hours and 35 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 39 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 62 degrees at 5am. Three degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 65 at 8pm. Light and variable wind. In 2019, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 58 degrees. The record low of 44 occurred back in 1988.

Today in 1971, twenty of the Camden 28 were arrested. โš–๏ธThey were a group of “Catholic left” anti-Vietnam War activists who in 1971 planned and executed a raid on a Camden, New Jersey draft board. ๐Ÿ‘ฎ๐Ÿป The raid resulted in a high-profile criminal trial of the activists that was seen by many as a referendum on the Vietnam War and as an example of successful use of jury nullification. ๐Ÿ›๏ธ

One month ๐Ÿ“… from now will be Autumn ๐Ÿ‚ when the sun will be setting at 6:52 pm with dusk at 7:20 pm. The average high is 7โƒฃ 0โƒฃ degrees. The weather when it changes come autumn always changes quickly. But that’s life. The salt belt will return. ๐ŸŒจ

August 21, 2020 Night

Good evening! Partly clear and 73 degrees in Delmar, NY. Calm wind. The dew point is 62 degrees. ๐ŸŒ†

It’s kind of a nice night but a bit humid. ๐Ÿ˜ฐ Went down to the park and read for a while and then a brief rain โ˜” shower came through. Fortunately it wasn’t enough to get the book I was reading wet. It was clear by the time I walked home. ๐Ÿก

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒƒ , with a low of 61 degrees at 6am. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around August 13th. Maximum dew point of 63 at 10pm. Light west wind. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It was sticky. It got down to 65 degrees. The record low of 39 occurred back in 1982.

Tonight will have a Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon with 11% illuminated. At 9 PM, the moon was in the west (266ยฐ) at an altitude of 7ยฐ from the horizon, some 226,675 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. ๐Ÿš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by February 9th. Buckle up for safety! ๐Ÿ’บ The darkest hour is at 12:59 am, followed by dawn at 5:40 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:10 am in the east-northeast (73ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 1 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 4 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:48 am with sun in the east (79ยฐ). Tonight will have 10 hours and 22 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 39 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1pm. Patchy fog before 7am. Otherwise, mostly sunny , with a high of 84 degrees at 3pm. Four degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 67 at 11am. Calm wind becoming west around 6 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning, which became thunderstorm by afternoon. It was very sticky. The high last year was 85 degrees. The record high of 93 was set in 1916.

The plan is to go to Schoharie County and go swimming ๐ŸŠ๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ tomorrow with maybe some fishing in the evening ๐ŸŽฃ and then camp overnight. I’m planning on a fairly quiet low key weekend. I figure this most likely will be the last weekend I’ll be able to get to the Mine Kill Pool before it closes for the year. ๐ŸŠ๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ

In four weeks on September 18 the sun will be setting in the west (273ยฐ) at 6:59 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 48 minutes and 2 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had mostly sunny, patches of fog and temperatures between 69 and 48 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 71 and 51 degrees. The record high of 91 degrees was set back in 1891.

I was reading about independent front suspension in relation to the Corvair article I was reading and the clunk I occasionally hear a full lock ๐Ÿš˜ is likely a sign that the struts are wearing out on Big Red. I’m not surprised ๐Ÿ˜ฒ but it doesn’t look to be safety critical or likely to lead to a breakdown and I doubt I’ll replace them at this point.

It is fun to look at cars and bicycles ๐Ÿšฒ although I’m still seriously looking at bicycles and renting a car for trips in the coming years but I could change my mind. ๐Ÿ’ต I cringe at how much my car insurance bill is during the winter months when I drive 20 miles a week to the parents house and grocery stores. Having a car means I can shop at Walmart and take my own garbage to the transfer station โ™ป, that is the stuff I don’t burn at camp. ๐Ÿ”ฅ I do like traveling a lot on weekends but I feel like the whole automobile industry is so scamy and polluting ๐Ÿญ.

I got a $60 bill from my dentist ๐Ÿ‘จ๐Ÿผโ€โš•๏ธafter my most recent cleaning. It looks like it covers the past two visits with a $20 copay for each plus $20 for the x-ray. Totally reasonable but I’m annoyed because the sent me a bill a few weeks ago saying I owed nothing from the January cleaning. I don’t mind paying it but I will be annoyed if they end up sending me a $60 overpayment check in two weeks.

Looking ahead, Labor Day Weekend Begins ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿญ is in 2 weeks, September 11th ๐Ÿ‡ธ is in 3 weeks, 7 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ† is in 4 weeks, Average High is 65 ๐Ÿ‚ is in 6 weeks, Average Night Below Freezing ๐ŸŒŒ is in 12 weeks, Buy Nothing Day ๐Ÿ›๏ธ is in 14 weeks, Average High is 40 ๐ŸŒจ is in 15 weeks, Bake Cookies Day ๐Ÿช is in 17 weeks, First Day of Winter โ˜ƒ๏ธ is in 4 months, Christmas ๐ŸŽ… is in 18 weeks, New Years Day 2020 ๐ŸŽ‰ is in 19 weeks, Bubble Bath Day ๐Ÿงผ is in 20 weeks and 37th Birthday ๐ŸŽ‰ is in 23 weeks.

Pine Creek Gorge

August 21, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Yeah, it’s Friday! โ˜บ Two weeks to Labor Day Weekend Begins ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿญ. Nice cutting torch in the emoji. That book ๐Ÿ“™ I read ๐Ÿ“– on welding ๐Ÿ—๏ธ a few months ago was very interesting. Mostly sunny and 59 degrees in Delmar, NY. Calm wind. The dew point is 53 degrees.

Got to bed early ๐Ÿ› and I woke up quite early too. But that’s good it ensures that I can go for my morning walk ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป before what appears to be a very busy day today at work. I didn’t even realize last night was the DNC speeches this morning as I was too busy reading that book on pig farming. ๐Ÿฝ Understanding feed rations for hogs is probably far more important than whatever bull ๐Ÿ‚ Biden his Time or the Trumpster is rambling about.

I was annoyed that I am out of milk ๐Ÿฎ again but I had enough for my coffee โ˜• which was a little blacker than normal. ๐Ÿ–คI don’t do creamer or sugar or salt in my coffee but I do like milk on my coffee. I usually prefer my coffee cold this time of year – after sitting on the stove for a few days. I’m sure the mold growth adds flavor and is important for fighting off the Corona’s virus. ๐Ÿ‘พ

Starting out as another autumn like morning but more heat will push in today ๐Ÿ˜ฐ and especially tomorrow. But fortunately tomorrow I’m planning to head out to Schoharie and spend some time at the Mine Kill Pool ๐ŸŠ๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ before it’s done for the summer. The morning walk ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป should be nice today.

I realize with two Zoom meetings ๐Ÿ“น today I’m going to have to shower ๐Ÿšฟ and shave and put on my politician’s suit ๐Ÿ‘”well at least my dress shirt and blazer. Otherwise with remote work nobody knows on the internet if you are dog ๐Ÿถ.

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 85 degrees at 3pm. Five degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 58 at 11am. Calm wind becoming west around 6 mph in the afternoon. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning, which became thunderstorm by afternoon. It was very sticky. The high last year was 85 degrees. Ditto. The record high of 98 was set in 1916.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:59 pm with sun having an altitude of 59.3ยฐ from the due south horizon (-11.5ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 3.6 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:11 pm with the sun in the west (281ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (287ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:49 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 2 seconds with dusk around 8:17 pm, which is one minute and 35 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon in the west (259ยฐ) at an altitude of 14ยฐ from the horizon, 226,696 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:55 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 79 degrees. The dew point will be 58 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 13 hours and 38 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 39 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 58 degrees at 5am. One degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around August 27th. Maximum dew point of 59 at 10pm. Light and variable wind. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It was sticky. It got down to 65 degrees. The record low of 39 occurred back in 1982.

On this day in 1959, United States President Dwight D. Eisenhower signs an executive order proclaiming Hawaii the 50th state of the union. I guess that makes Barack Obama a US Citizen. ๐Ÿง“๐ŸพDoesn’t matter neither President Trump or his fan club Q Annon would believe that as they think the former president is a child sex trafficker like their former buddy Jerry Espstein.

See, there is the evidence that I follow the news ๐Ÿ“ฐ carefully, which isn’t quite true ever since my radio ๐Ÿ“ป started giving me problems. Heck, I didn’t even realize that last night was Joe Biden’s speech ๐Ÿ’ฌ at the DNC. I do remember listening ๐Ÿ‘‚ to Barack Obama’s 2008 DNC speech up in that holler camping at Burnt Rossman โ›บ listening to 1010 Wins as that was the only channel I could get besides that very werid Christian Raddio station. I’ve listened to that station a bit and I can tell you I think ๐Ÿค” you’d have to spent too much time breathing in burnt plastic or smelling the chemicals in the sprayer tank ๐Ÿšœ to get into it. But I respect folks belief and I totally get why folks want to live in the mountains โ›ฐ with their guns ๐Ÿ”ซ. Me too!

Tomorrow will have isolated showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 84 degrees at 3pm. Four degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 64 at 11am. Calm wind becoming northwest 5 to 9 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning, which became thunderstorm by afternoon. It was very sticky. The high last year was 85 degrees. The record high of 93 was set in 1916.

Looking ahead to Sunday, isolated showers, then scattered showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. ๐ŸŒฆ๏ธ Partly sunny, with a high near 88. Calm wind becoming south 5 to 7 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. Maximum dew point of 65 at 10am. Typical average high for the weekend is 80 degrees.

Yes, it looks like Sunday is going to be a hot one. ๐Ÿ˜ฐ But I figure it’s best to enjoy it as September is just around the corner ๐Ÿ‚and autumn is just over a month away – September 22nd. ๐ŸŽƒ All those moldy carved pumpkins for Halloween sitting on door steps just waiting to be tossed in the garbage, crush and preserved forever next to the crushed television ๐Ÿ“บ set in the local mound. ๐Ÿ—‘ I think when I own land I’d rather compost, feed them to chickens ๐Ÿ” or pigs ๐Ÿท especially because I doubt moldy pumpkins would burn well in the burn barrel. ๐Ÿ”ฅ

I am still hoping to get up to Piseco Powley Road โ›บ come mid September should Stratford get its bridge rebuilt by then. ๐ŸšงI heard they’re making progress but I’m taking a wait and see approach to hear when it will be open again. I want to cool off one more time at the Potholers before it gets super cold out and the road is closed for the winter.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Labor Day Weekend Begins ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿญ when the sun will be setting at 7:24 pm with dusk at 7:52 pm. Labor Day is very late this year – latest it can be due to the calendar ๐Ÿ—“. On that day in 2019, we had thunderstorm and temperatures between 80 and 59 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 77 degrees. We hit a record high of 97 back in 1929.

August 20, 2020 Night

Good evening! Clear and 67 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a south breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 55 degrees. ๐ŸŒ†

Definitely a nice late summer night. Went down to the park and read ๐Ÿ“– for two hours although midway through I was interrupted by some kind of hoola-hoop ๐Ÿ™†โ€โ™‚๏ธ even with dozens of kids and parents together doing some kind of exercise activity. Park was fairly crowded ๐Ÿ‘ช but I found a quiet picnic table in the back to read at.

Continuing to read ๐Ÿ“– that book on hog farming. ๐Ÿฝ I’ve learned a lot about showing pigs, apparently that is a big thing for 4-H kids ๐Ÿง’. Probably not my thing to show hogs but I’m a lot about small scale pig raising. I want to get this book finished up this week as I have a bunch more books to read from the library that are due soon although right now they’re not collecting fines for overdue books. ๐Ÿ“š Its going to get tough to read at the park soon after work as the sun sets so early.

I debated Five Rivers ๐Ÿฆ versus the park but decided that park would be better as I’ve not been reserving enough time for reading ๐Ÿ“–. That said there will only be a week or so of enough daylight to walk ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป out to Five Rivers until its too dark after work. We are loosing so much daylight each evening. Maybe tomorrow or early next week if the evenings are nice and not ungodly hot. ๐Ÿ˜ฐ

Today I finally had a bit of downtime at work ๐Ÿ˜Œ which was nice for a change. I got down to the library and uploaded ๐Ÿ‘† some pictures ๐Ÿ“ธ and new maps ๐Ÿ—บ. Look forward to cooler days working down at the library parking lot come autumn.๐Ÿ‚ Tomorrow will be much busier.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 57 degrees at 3am. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around August 31st. Maximum dew point of 55 at 8pm. South wind around 6 mph. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became light rain by the early hours of the morning. It became very sticky as the night progressed. It got down to 68 degrees. The record low of 42 occurred back in 1977.

Tonight will have a Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon with 4% illuminated. At 8 PM, the moon was in the west (269ยฐ) at an altitude of 12ยฐ from the horizon, some 227,771 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. ๐Ÿš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by February 9th. Buckle up for safety! ๐Ÿ’บ The moon will set in the west (280ยฐ) at 9:07 pm. The darkest hour is at 1:00 am, followed by dawn at 5:39 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:09 am in the east-northeast (73ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 2 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 5 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:47 am with sun in the east (79ยฐ). Tonight will have 10 hours and 20 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 37 seconds over last night.

Definitely a really pretty little sliver of a moon tonight. ๐ŸŒ›Stars โœจ are out and the crickets ๐Ÿฆ— are singing ๐ŸŽถ their song. Wouldn’t be a bad night for camping ๐Ÿ• but alas I have to work tomorrow. I thought about leaving for Schoharie after work but I think it will just be an overnight trip with lots of time at the pool ๐ŸŠ๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ, some at the fishing ๐ŸŽฃ hole and some at the farmers market. ๐ŸŒฝ

Tomorrow will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 84 degrees at 3pm. Four degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 62 at 11am. South wind 5 to 9 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Going to be a fairly warm late summer day. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. It became somewhat humid as the day progressed. The high last year was 85 degrees. The record high of 98 was set in 1916.

Tomorrow I have a Zoom meeting ๐Ÿ“น at noon ๐Ÿ•› and I’m giving a Zoom presentation at 2 pm so I will probably work down at the library most of the day ๐Ÿ“š to save bandwidth on the work network and for reliability purposes. ๐Ÿ“ถ Going to be a fairly hot one but I’ll drink fluids ๐Ÿฅƒ but not too much I have to pee ๐Ÿ˜ญand maybe I can work in the shade in a lawn chair at least for the first meeting that I’m not presenting. Probably won’t stay at the library until five but will finish my day off at home. ๐Ÿก

In four weeks on September 17 the sun will be setting in the west (273ยฐ) at 7:01 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 47 minutes and 50 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had sunny, patches of fog and temperatures between 73 and 47 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 72 and 51 degrees. The record high of 89 degrees was set back in 1942.

Not sure if I’m that excited about the colder weather ๐Ÿ‚ and the higher utility bills but then again I don’t usually turn the heat on until mid November and while probably after Labor Day I’ll need to turn the hot water heater back on, ๐Ÿค‘ truth by told it only really boosts my utility bill by $30-50 a month during the coldest months of year and that’s easily offset by less traveling and less fuel used in my truck. โ›ฝ

Looking ahead, 6:30 Sunrise ๐ŸŒ‡ is in 3 weeks, Constitution Day ๐Ÿ“œ is in 4 weeks, Average High 70 ๐ŸŽ‘ is a month away, October ๐Ÿ›ฅ and Harvest Moon ๐ŸŒ• is in 6 weeks, Average High is 60 ๐Ÿ‚ is in 8 weeks, Thanksgiving ๐Ÿฆƒ is in 14 weeks, 7:15 AM Sunrise โŒ›๏ธ is in 16 weeks, Christmas Eve ๐ŸŽ… is in 18 weeks, New Years Eve ๐ŸŽ† is in 19 weeks, Coldest Week of the Year ๐ŸŒฌ is in 21 weeks, Inauguration Day โœ… is in 5 months, Wolf Moon ๐ŸŒ• is in 23 weeks, Don’t Cry over Spilled Milk Day ๐Ÿฅ› is in 25 weeks, National Drink Wine Day ๐Ÿท is in 26 weeks and 5:30 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ† is in 6 months.
