Totally agree that walking in that thunderstorm last night wasn’t a great idea ⛈

I didn’t think it would be nice enough to go out walking last night but then I stepped outside it seemed okay, the wind blowing the opposite direction of the clouds to the west. It risk of thunder seemed pretty low, and I wanted to get at least 8 miles in for the day. But the time I was farthest from home the lightening was too close for comfort and five minutes from home the sky opened up. Ultimately I did get in 8 miles for the day, not the ten I normally walk and didn’t make it to the park, but that’s fine.

Good morning! With a few loud cracks of rain and thunder it’s morning. The sun is is rising, the skies are clearing somewhat and let’s call it 66 ⅔ degrees at the 6:30 for the morning walk in the land of the Delmartian. ⛅ Calm wind. The dew point is 64 degrees.

Last night I got home 🏡 from work glad that I didn’t get soaked and figured that the evening walk 🚶 was off the agenda. Then at 6:30 I stepped outside and looked at the radar and decided it would be okay. And it was for a while until the wind shifted and thunder ⚡ pushed closer. In the end it was fine, though I got a bit wet and went to bed early. 🛏 Walked 8 miles for the day plus 39 flights of stairs up and down. I was asleep by around 8 pm and up around 5 am.

As it was still raining out when I awoke 🍳 I decided to have breakfast before walking which was cold black coffee ☕ with cold eggs and spinach from the other day. I also had a half of banana 🍌 from last night. At lunch time yesterday I walked up to Market 32 in Albany and got a bunch of bananas to hold my pantry over until Saturday when I can do a bigger shop 🏪. Cold lunch today with black beans, mushrooms, chopped farmers market tomatoes, peppers. Avoids the line for the microwave at work, though I’ve figured out the technique is to cook lunch at 12:50 PM before the 1 PM rush.

Today will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 5pm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Patchy fog before 7am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy 🌧, with a high of 83 degrees at 2pm. One degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around July 4th. Independence Day! Maximum dew point of 71 at 2pm. Calm wind becoming south around 6 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 85 degrees. The record high of 99 was set in 1995.

I’ll have to keep that Market 32 in Albany in mind 🛒 for when I need stocking up of a few ingredients downtown. Much better than the old Ghetto Chopper and really only a few blocks away from work if I take South Swan to Elm Street. They don’t have much in household supplies – I was hoping to get super glue to fix my boots 👢 – but the fresh fruits and vegetables looked good. It’s small so a fast shop. Probably can’t get frozen things there and I decided to skip getting plain non fat Greek yogurt just because of the hot day walking back to the office and the bus ride home but in the winter I think that’s an option.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 1:02 pm with sun having an altitude of 69.1° from the due south horizon (-1.7° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.3 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour 🏅 starts at 7:51 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (294°). 📸 The sunset is in the west-northwest (301°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:33 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 22 seconds with dusk around 9:06 pm, which is 36 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌇 The best time to look at the stars is after 9:50 pm. At sunset, look for rain 🌧 and thunderstorms 🌩 and temperatures around 74 degrees. The dew point will be 70 degrees. There will be a south-southeast breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 5 minutes of daytime, a decrease of one minute and 25 seconds over yesterday.

Six months into healthy eating 🍎I am finally starting to notice how much thinner I am. I have a feeling that my BMI is now below 25 though I don’t have a scale so I don’t know but I know I have lost weight since the last time I visited the doctor at the end of May when I was 209 lb and needed to get to 194 lb to be a healthy weight at 6′ 2.5″ though most others say I’m 6′ 4″ or 6′ 5″ with the boots on. My love handles have virtually disappeared and my stomach is much smaller, and I’m pretty sure that size 36 pants 👖 are now the proper size, the smallest since probably I’ve been since elementary school. The problem is finding clothes in my closet that don’t make me look like a clown. 🤡 Still have a little more belly fat I’d look to loose, not just because of the look but because outer fat is associated with inner muscle fat, especially in the heart 💖 which is rather bad. But I feel like I am starting to get in great shape, mostly from eating a nutritious diet but also because I’ve kept up with the walking and stairs. And hopefully cycling too. Steiner, you are biting me with this bicycle thing. 😠

Tonight will have showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly before midnight. Mostly cloudy 🌧, with a low of 66 degrees at 5am. Three degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 70 at 6pm. Southeast wind around 6 mph becoming calm in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 57 degrees. The record low of 44 occurred back in 1950.

I need to think about getting new boots before vacation. 👟 Or at least rugged sneakers, something I can use for mountain biking and maybe jogging which I tell myself that I’m thinking 💭 about taking up 🏃 maybe half seriously since becoming thinner. Around camp and certainly st the swimming pools and holes the knock off crocks are fun but they’re not appropriate for much else. They have no ankle support, get my feet muddy, and worse of all let in any stones and sticks into my foot 👣 where I can step on them.

On this day in 1969, the $500, $1,000, $5,000 and $10,000 bills are officially withdrawn from circulation. 💵 After this date, if you wanted to buy a large purchase in cash, you needed a lot of hundred dollars in bills. 💰They had last been printed in 1945, and were finally dropped from circulation in 1969, in part as an effort to reduce corruption and money scams. Nowadays a hundred 💯 dollars seems almost a paltry amount with inflation not that I ever carry anything bigger than $5 bills because it’s just easier to use the credit card 💳 for anything bigger.

Tomorrow will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 3pm. Partly sunny 🌞, with a high of 87 degrees at 3pm. Three degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 72 at 11am. Muggy, swamp weather. South wind 3 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 86 degrees. The record high of 96 was set in 1997.

Tomorrow I will walk 🚶 early to best the heat. 😰 Then it’s those oatmeal banana pancakes 🍌 🥞 love with blueberries and maybe some sugar free maple syrup and cold black coffee. So good! Then it’s off to Steiners to check on the status of the bicycle 🚲 they promise to be assembling for me. They don’t have it, I’ll test ride the XXL of the Marlin 5 and order and pay for the Marlin 6 as long as they can give me a set date for delivery. 🚚 Otherwise I will order online with another shop. This purchase needs to be closed down this weekend.

Then the next thing to do is get grocery shopping 🛒. I want to get more red kidney beans for maple syrup 🍘 next week and get them soaking to be cooked come Sunday morning. Plus all the usual, more Greek yogurt, 🐮 frozen fruit 🍓, peppers 🫑🌶️, mushrooms 🍄 and the usuals. I also need shampoo and extra deodorant the later this keep in the office 🏢 after climbing the stairs. Then I’m not totally sure. 🏊 If it’s hot and looks like thunderstorms will stay away, maybe go to the town pool. I would have to register though to get a pool fob, maybe I should do that and it’s $5.25 to enter. 😕 And you have to do that in advance. Seems like a pain. If I get the bike, 🚵 ride out to Voorheesville and probably the Black Creek Marsh. If it’s hot and I don’t want to spend money, go to the library for a while 💻 with my computer, then come home, sit by the fan and get through some more of the stack of library books I have at home. 📚

Looking ahead to Sunday, showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. High near 83. ⛈️ South wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible. Not just a few passing showers. Maximum dew point of 74 at 12pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 84 degrees.

And so is the weekend forecast. 😖 But if I can get this damn bicycle 🚲 thing closed down, I’ll be happy. I am thinking about taking off at least one day next week, where and what to do is to be decided but I need to get a few things ready for my vacation, I’ve taken fewer days off this summer than expected. Maybe it will be to get the rack on the bicycle, break it in or pick it up. 🛠 Maybe the Potholers or Schoharie the second half of the week. 🏊

Two weeks from now, God willing, 🏖 I will be well on my way to the Finger Lakes. I really want to leave by eight AM on that Friday to get the campsite I want in the National Forest ⛺ and then have the afternoon to set up and relax. 🎣 Do some fishing, a nice bicycle 🚲 ride and maybe watch a Finger Lakes sunset 🌇 across a cow pasture in the National Forest.

After vacation, August 11th I have a dentist appointment at 10:15 AM 🦷 which I will follow up probably with a long weekend. Maybe Schoharie or the Adirondacks. Have to be strategic at this point as there are only three weeks left in August at that point before Labor Day Weekend, and I want to have at least a few more long weekends before summer is done. 🏊 🛶 That said, except for the Mine Kill Pool there is no reason I can’t take lots of long weekends come September and October. 🍁 I am not doing a West Virginia trip — or even a week-long trip at this point this autumn, so that leaves other days to allocate. I would like to do some kayaking, fishing, hunting, and bike riding this autumn. Charles Baker State Forest roads probably would be wonderful for autumn bike riding, as would the Chenango Canal Trail and others.

Looking ahead, there are 7 weeks until September 1st 🍂 when the sun will be setting at 7:31 pm with dusk at 7:59 pm. That’s the start of Labor Day Weekend. On that day in 2022, we had mostly sunny skies with rain showers and temperatures between 73 and 55 degrees. Cool day. The average high is 79 degrees. We hit a record high of 96 back in 1953. I might do Spectulator that weekend, especially if they have fire tower lighting that I could observe from I don’t know, Watch Hill (?). 🏕 Some of those truck trails through the Conservation Easement might be nice on the mountain bike, as would be camping up on Hardwood Hill, looking at the stars, lighting off ground fireworks and sparklers. 🎆

Back Out on Open Lake

Those bananas and oatmeal pancakes are good on this Saturday morning 🥞

To think all these years I used to eat pancakes made out of white flour, sugar and whatever other chemicals that are in grocery store pancake mix compared to just whole grain oatmeal, a banana and some water run through a food processor and fried with a pan with just a little bit of non stick spray. I just have gotten to hate all prepared mixes and recipes you find on the internet and cook books with 20,000 ingredients and steps which all involve cooking using PFOAs topped pans with lard and substitutes, sugar and substitutes, along with a ton of added salt. But maybe my tastes have changed as I’ve lost weight or you care far more about nutrition then taste. I don’t do portion control but I also don’t eat crap anymore that doesn’t fill my stomach with good nutritious food.

At any rate, Good morning! Happy Saturday. Can you believe it’s already the weekend? 😃Mostly cloudy and 71 degrees at the Elm Ave Town Park . ⛅ Calm wind. The dew point is 67 degrees. Going to hot and humid 😰 out later so I figure walk 🚶 now before it gets too ungodly hot out later.

Woke up around 5:15 as a fire truck 🚒🧑‍🚒came roaring through the neighborhood and I fell asleep pretty early last night, as I cut my evening walk short ⛈ as I was sure it would thunderstorm and pour before I could get home. I also started early after a quick cold dinner of kidney beans with sugar free maple 🍁 syrup. 10 miles on the dot yesterday, I managed to squeeze it out by a quick walk in the Elm Ave Park followed by some laps at Swift Wetland Preserve near where I live then a few laps back inside. Also did 40 flights of stairs up and down at work – two times up and down (morning, lunch, home) to the 18th floor plus four flights in the LOB. Been two weeks of only using the stairs at work. 🧗‍♂️

I was up early but didn’t start walking 🚶 until 6:45 this morning. Had said pancakes 🥞 first topped with the remaining farmers market blueberries. They were good 🫐 but paying $7 for a pint of fresh blueberries even in these inflationary times seems like highway robbery when you can just as healthy frozen 3 lb for a few more bucks. It’s good to treat yourself once and a while. Plus I didn’t want to go to the store until today. 💸 Truth be told what I really want is fresh tomatoes 🍅 and sweet corn 🌽 from the farmers market.

Today will have scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 1pm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Partly sunny 🌞, with a high of 86 degrees at 4pm. Two degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 70 at 10am. Calm wind becoming northwest around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 85 degrees. The record high of 100 was set in 1936.

I would like to get in about four 4⃣ miles of walking 🚶 this morning before heading home 🪰 but the deer fly may change my mind first. Doing the nature trail loop at Elm Ave Park that I do most evenings. Then head home. I want to pull out of the freezer the remaining chicken 🐔 breast I have to thaw in the fridge for cooking in the oven, probably tomorrow morning early and then refreezing cooked portions for future years. I no longer get the precooked strips because they’re loaded with fat and salt to say nothing of preservatives and so much more expensive than what I can prepare myself and freeze. And also cook up the black beans I have as they’re so good cold with red onions, especially in the heat. Also want to try to make hummus out of the chickpeas I soaked earlier in the week and then roast the rest to mix with blueberries, raspberries,, strawberries and walnuts. 🍓🥜🫐

Then I want to go to the library 📚 and briefly study the spec sheets a bit more on the bicycles I’m researching 🔍 before heading over to Steiners Sports in Glenmont to hopefully check out the Trek Marlin 5 or 6 and the Trek Verve 2, and maybe the Dual Sport 2 though I’m leaning towards a mountain bike and the Trek brand due to the local popularity and parts and service availability. Then I’ll head over to Market 32 and Walmart for groceries. 🛒 My current lack of frozen fruit and plain Greek yogurt is kind of a bummer especially knowing how hot it’s expected to be by evening.

If Steiner is a bust for getting a bicycle 🚲, I’ll head to Downtube in the afternoon to look there. Or if I like what Steiner has but they only have my size in Hudson it will be a road trip. They’re Hudson location is also open on Sunday so I could do that tomorrow too. Who knows how this will go. 🤷‍♂️

Solar noon 🌞 is at 1:01 pm with sun having an altitude of 69.9° from the due south horizon (-0.9° vs. 6/21). The golden hour 🏅 starts at 7:54 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (295°). 📸 The sunset is in the west-northwest (302°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:36 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 25 seconds with dusk around 9:09 pm, which is 23 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌇 The best time to look at the stars is after 9:55 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies 🌃 and temperatures around 77 degrees. The dew point will be 70 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 12 minutes of daytime, a decrease of one minute and 5 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 7pm. Mostly cloudy 🌫️, with a low of 66 degrees at 6am. Four degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 70 at 7pm. South wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 61 degrees. The record low of 41 occurred back in 1963.

I was so sure I had that dentist appointment next week 🦷but I am wrong it would appear as I haven’t got an appointment reminder. I called and texted the dentist on Friday but it was after they had closed for the day. I do hope to get out of town next weekend, maybe tacking on Friday and or Monday. ⛺ Maybe just Schoharie especially if I have the bicycle for the Catskill Scenic Trail. And practice my swimming 🏊 strokes before vacation, which with my weight loss I should be a much stronger swimmer. If next weekend looks bad there is always the free Nature Bus to Thacher Park. 🚍 I haven’t done the Nature Bus yet this year. 🆓

Looking ahead, next Saturday is Cow Appreciation Day 🐂 when the sun will be setting at 8:33 pm with dusk at 9:05 pm. On that day in 2022, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 86 and 57 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 84 degrees. Burgers and steak 🍔 are a good treat on occasion and I do like skim milk in coffee ☕ at times, and plain Greek yogurt remains wonderful 🍨 but I admit I’ve cut back a lot due to calories and especially the omega 6 saturated fat in cattle. But they’re such wonderful animals for protecting grass lands while putting the land to use in a sustainable fashion. We hit a record high of 96 back in 1997.

Across the Lake

A three day work week after the four day weekend 🎇

Most of the booms last night weren’t fireworks but the thunderstorms that came rolling through that got me a bit wet heading down Bennett Hill but wasn’t the terribly violent storms they predicted from the radar. Odd how they pushed south from the north.

Good morning! Mostly foggy 🌁 and 63 degrees in Delmar for the morning walk 🚶. Calm wind. It’s foggy a with a dew point of 63 degrees. The air quality is a moderate 55.

Normally we’d call today Hump Day 🐫 but it’s more of psudeo Monday as the work week is ahead. Should be a quiet three 3⃣ day week, the other director is on vacation but so is a lot of staff and the work load light. The past few days have been very hot and lazy at home, 🏡 it’s tough to get up and going. 18 flights of stairs await me to climb at my office 🏢. While I do worry having eggs this morning after a hamburger 🍔 on the forth means I’ll be over on the saturated fats, eggs 🍳 have loads of protein and it’s good as I will include about two cups of ground spinach, plus tomatoes 🍅, peppers and onions plus maybe mix in some cottage cheese for even more protein. Walked 🚶 7.8 miles yesterday.

Today will have fog before 7am. Otherwise, sunny and hot 🌞, with a high of 90 degrees at 3pm. Six degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 70 at 10am. Calm wind becoming north 5 to 7 mph in the morning. A year ago, we had rain in the morning, which became rain by afternoon. It became sticky as the day progressed. The high last year was 74 degrees. The record high of 99 was set in 1919.

Yesterday was fun, spent some time with the folks before climbing Bennett Hill and getting chased down it ⛈ when a sort of freak thunderstorm pushed down from the north, lighting the radar up with a dense red cell heading right towards me. I was hoping to watch the canceled Albany State Plaza fireworks 🎇 from the hill and all the unofficial ones people were lighting off in their backyards but not during a severe electrical storm with hail, torrential downpours, strong winds. 🍃 I stayed up top for a while but hearing thunder ⚡ and seeing lightening I rushed down the hill only getting a little wet 💧 by the time I reached my truck. It rained somewhat hard on my drive home and the underpass on 443 was fairly flooded but no hail and I made it home safely, spending the last 15 minutes of the storm watching it from my truck. 🛻

Solar noon 🌞 is at 1:01 pm with sun having an altitude of 70.2° from the due south horizon (-0.6° vs. 6/21). The golden hour 🏅 starts at 7:54 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (296°). 📸 The sunset is in the west-northwest (303°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:37 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 26 seconds with dusk around 9:10 pm, which is 16 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌇 The best time to look at the stars is after 9:56 pm. At sunset, look for mostly clear skies 🌄 and temperatures around 83 degrees. The dew point will be 68 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 15 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 53 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly clear 🌃, with a low of 68 degrees at 4am. Six degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 69 at 9pm. Last night was pretty sticky, so will tonight be. Northwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. In 2022, we had light rain in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It was somewhat humid. It got down to 63 degrees. The record low of 47 occurred back in 1962.

On this day in 1999, U.S. President Bill Clinton imposes trade and economic sanctions against the Taliban regime in Afghanistan. ⚔ 25 years later and a few trillion spent not sure we have a lot to show for it besides bass boats for military contractors, a bunch of dead and injured Americans and Muslims rounded up in racist prosecution. It was pretty bad but then the American government doesn’t have that good reputation of treating Americans fairly, remember COINTELPRO and before that the Red Scare. Old J. Edgar Hoover might be long gone, but his agency sticks around.

Hot and summer like for the weekend. 😎 More clouds for Sunday then Saturday but that’s getting ahead of myself. Saturday, a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 87. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Maximum dew point of 67 at 8pm. Sunday, a chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 85. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Maximum dew point of 68 at 1pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 84 degrees.

It truthfully would be a great weekend to spend out in Schoharie 🏕 at the Mine Kill Pool but I really want to figure out the bicycle thing this weekend. 🚲 I think I am really zeroing in the bicycle I want, a place where I can pay and take delivery potentially as soon as Saturday, so I could be back out on the road as soon as Saturday afternoon or maybe Sunday. I may end up having to drive down Hudson to take delivery of the bicycle but I could combine that with some beach time at Lake Taghkanic or ride some of the Albany Hudson Electric Trail. Or maybe some of both?

One month 📅 from now will be Work Like a Dog Day 🐩 when the sun will be setting at 8:12 pm with dusk at 8:42 pm. I bet, in August. Maybe more like nap like a dog day. 🐶

Bridge

Now is the time to check how many fingers you have 🎇

For the first time in generations, there has not been a time when so many Americans have lawful access to consumer fireworks and sparklers and the ability to legally drive on highways a 70 mph or faster. More states are legalizing cannabis products and the Supreme Court seems to finally protect and enforce the second.

Good morning, America 🇺🇸 ! 247 years going strong, only three more before a quarter millennium has come and gone. Have fun with your fireworks and remember as the sign says, you are responsible for your own safety, not some government worker.

Cloudy and 68 degrees for the morning walk. ☁ Calm wind. The dew point is 67 degrees. The muggers and the sultry weather will be sticking around for a while. The skies will clear around 1 pm. Air quality is moderate around 55.

Already a rather muggy day and it will be hot by evening 😰 but it should be be a nice one for fireworks 🎇 and barbecues. 🍔 I’m out for my morning walk 🚶 a little later than normal but earlier than over the long weekend. I had my hard boiled egg 🥚 and black coffee ☕, I am thinking about having a those 🍌 banana oatmeal pancakes 🥞 I make in the food processor topped with strawberries. 🍓

Independence Day will have a slight chance of showers, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1pm. Otherwise, partly sunny 🌦, with a high of 84 degrees at 5pm. One degree above normal. Maximum dew point of 71 at 11am. Calm wind becoming north around 6 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 84 degrees. The record high of 104 was set in 1911.

Yesterday after spending too much time working on my old jalopy of a bicycle 🛠 🚲 I ended up going for a delightful walk 🚶 out to Bender Mellon Preserve. 🐦 🦋 Lots of birds and butterflies and flowers 🌼, I made sure to stay out of the poison ivy. Kind of a hot and humid day but the rail trail is quite shaded and I was back home before the thunderstorms ⛈ came rolling through. 8.8 miles walked 🚶 for the day.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 1:00 pm with sun having an altitude of 70.3° from the due south horizon (-0.5° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.2 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour 🏅 starts at 7:55 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (296°). 📸 The sunset is in the west-northwest (303°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:37 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 26 seconds with dusk around 9:11 pm, which is 14 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌇 The best time to look at the stars is after 9:57 pm. At sunset, look for rain 🌧 and thunderstorms 🌩 and temperatures around 79 degrees. The dew point will be 71 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 15 hours and 16 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 50 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 7pm. Partly cloudy 🌧, with a low of 65 degrees at 6am. Three degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 71 at 8pm. Calm wind. On this day in 1776, The United States Declaration of Independence is adopted by the Second Continental Congress. 51 years later, slavery would be banned in New York State in 1821. Starting the day after Independence Day 1967, you would be able to FOIL the Federal Government, after U.S. President Lyndon B. Johnson signs the Freedom of Information Act into law on July 4, 1966. Then citizens could request information on how much the federal government spent on fireworks the night before.

Right now, a split verdict on the weekend. 😕 Saturday, a chance of showers between 8am and 2pm, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 84. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Maximum dew point of 67 at 10am. Sunday, a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 84. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Maximum dew point of 67 at 11am. Typical average high for the weekend is 84 degrees.

Wouldn’t be a bad weekend as it stands for heading out of town 🌲 but I have a feeling I won’t be as I’m kind of busy and really want to take delivery of a bicycle 🚲 next weekend. Saves money 💵 to stay home plus the following week is my dentist appointment 🦷 so it would make sense to head out after that.

Looking ahead, next Tuesday is World Population Day 👩‍👩‍👧‍👧 when the sun will be setting at 8:35 pm with dusk at 9:07 pm. The thunderstorms at least will be booming. On that day in 2022, we had hot weather, partly sunny and temperatures between 91 and 55 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 84 degrees. We hit a record high of 98 back in 1936.

 Natural Rock Dam

You can guess what I’m messing around with this morning 🚲

Lol, lol, lol. I actually got all the spokes threaded back properly after months of on and off set backs and now I’m now up to the point of trueing the wheel when I broke a spoke nub. The inexpensive ones that came with the spokes I bought are complete junk that don’t even fit the spoke key but one I find my needle nose pliers I’ll reinstall the ones previously on the bicycle. At least I’m learning a lot about bike spokes and wheels.

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. Office is closed for the holiday but not the library. Cloudy and 68 degrees in Delmar, NY. ☁ There is a west-northwest breeze at 7 mph. 🍃. The dew point is 67 degrees. The skies will clear tomorrow around 3 pm.

I am finally getting out walking 🚶. I six 8.6 miles yesterday mostly in the afternoon at the Town Park 🏞 but also I ended up doing an evening walk 🚶 and then reading 📖 a book about the housing crisis and reading up on bicycles until midnight when I went to bed 🛏 with complete frustration about it all. Pretty depressing subject was that book I was reading. It’s why I’m focused on saving money 💵 and investing in my future to protect myself from the evils of society.

I read up and discovered some more downsides of that Jamis Citizen 2 bicycle I had previously looked at – it’s heavy, and the super soft suspension might be comfortable but it’s not good for long rides. 🚲 Plus I am having second thoughts about spending so much on something that is ultimately going to break down and isn’t going to be good on the rougher trails. Plus how would it good would it be on dirt roads with gravel? And plus I’m not sure how good of a bicycle it is – the local shop sells them but I almost never see anybody riding them – everybody locally rides Trek, Specialized or Giant. While brands aren’t everything they can be a mark of quality.

Another drizzly weekend Sunday funday 🌦️

Almost bought a bike yesterday. So close but I wanted to think about it more before laying down my six hundred bucks. I’ve been milling it over all evening and day but I won’t be able to get it until at least Wednesday and only if I leave work early. Other than that it’s been a slow day as I stayed up much too late last night, sleeped in and was playing with data as it poured all morning. Getting my steps in now in case it pours this evening or is so humid like last night.

Good afternoon! Rain showers are a falling in Delmar and I’m finally out walking. 🌧️ There is a north breeze at 5 mph. 🍃. The dew point is 68 degrees. The skies will clear tomorrow around 7 pm.

It’s rained and poured for a while this morning. 💦 Super wet, despite being a summer four day weekend away from work it would not have not been a good one for camping. But it fine, I think I’m getting closer to getting a bicycle 🚲 and I’m enjoying the quiet, spending some time reading and learning new ways to wrangle data. When it’s not raining the heat and humidity is oppressive but it’s fine we need the rain.

The high last year was 87 degrees. The record high of 98 was set in 1966.

I guess it’s good that I decided to stay in town this weekend. 🏡 Today was so wet this morning and more rain is expected this evening. I figure get my steps in now 👣 and then I will read 📖 some of the books 📚 I got out of the library this evening. Tomorrow isn’t expected to be quite so wet, might be a good day to walk 🚶 out to Five Rivers. I think the library is open tomorrow so I could go down to the library and use my laptop down there. That said, these days I can do virtually everything with my phone 📱.

That’s a lot of rain their expecting tonight. 💧 I am glad I didn’t decide to be out camping 🏕. Maybe next week. Even yesterday with the heat, humidity and wildfire smoke wasn’t that great, though at least I got groceries 🛒 and sparklers 🎇 to use for a future trip up north. Yesterday I walked 5 1/4 miles mostly because it was so damn humid come the evening and decided against my evening walk 🚶.

On this day in 1962, The first Wal-Mart store opens for business in Rogers, Arkansas. 🏪 How would we all survive without that? I guess more K Mart and going to the grocery store and paying a bunch more. Two years later, President Johnson would sign the Civil Rights Act of 1964 into law on the same day. 🤝🏾

 Paddling Along

I’m going to buy a bicycle 🚲 today

I’ve done my research and made peace with what I’m going to spend for either a good quality used or new bicycle preferably from the local shop. Like anything it’s a big purchase and it might get broken, stolen or destroyed two days after purchase and there is depreciation but it’s worth it for a good reliable ride to get me around town potentially for years to come. I’m so much thinner and more responsible then in my twenties.

Good morning! Mostly sunny ☀ and 64 degrees in Delmar, NY. Calm wind. The dew point is 59 degrees. The air quality remains poor from the wildfire smoke with an AQI around 155 and visual haze around.

Out for the morning walk a bit late 🚶 and then I will shower 🚿 and the head to the bicycle store. 🚲 I’m really hopeful that I can find something that will work for me and provide years of reliable service now that I’m in my forties. Then I want to drop the used worn out clothing 👚 in the recycling ♻ dumpster, go to the Farmers Market for fresh tomatoes 🍅 then over to Rennselear County for sparklers 🎇 and fireworks for next week camping ⛺. Then get groceries.🛒 A busy day indeed.

Today will have widespread haze from the wildfire smoke. Mostly sunny ☀, with a high of 87 degrees at 4pm. Four degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 66 at 12pm. On this day in 1963, ZIP codes are introduced for United States mail. If you get a zip code wrong, the best thing that can happen is you have a very scornful postal clerk, and the worst thing that can happen is your mail isn’t delivered. ✉ Don’t ask me how I know. Always double check zip codes. Also in 1968, the UAW becomes a seperate entity from AFL-CIO over policy disputes. 🚘 The UAW would rejoin the AFL-CIO 13 years later in 1981.
