Good evening! Partly clear and 75 degrees in Dormansville, NY. There is a south-southwest breeze at 8 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 64 degrees. Kind of muggy end to summer. But then again autumn is going to start out pretty hot and muggy. ๐Ÿ”ฅ

With today, I think it’s fair to say summer camping season is done. I doubt I’ll do any more kayaking this summer, put the fishing pole away for my gun. โ›บ I’m still looking forward to my West Virginia trip in twelve days. Money will be tighter then expected but if I have to dip a little bit into savings it’s not the end of the world. I’m mostly backcountry camping so lodging expenses will be low and I cook most of my own food ๐Ÿฒ.

It was a great weekend, got to see see and do a lot but it’s intensely frustrating ๐Ÿ˜ค that Big Red has developed a noise in the rear right wheel. Not sure if it’s the drum brake or the wheel bearing but things only break when money is tight. I’m always putting more damn money into keeping the brakes working right. Those big wheels, my heavy truck cap the solar panel, batteries and camping equipment put quite a bit of weight on the brakes going down the mountains. If I get another truck eventually it’s going to be a 3/4 ton for sure, without a lift kit. But I may go car-less for a while so I can save more for my future.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 65 degrees at 5am. 16 degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 64 at 10pm. South wind around 8 mph. In 2018, we had partly cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 45 degrees. The record low of 32 occurred back in 1963.

Tonight will have a Waning Crescent Moon ๐ŸŒ˜ with 28% illuminated with the moon rising at 12:16 am. The moon will rise at 1:00 am. The New Moon is on Friday night with mostly clear skies. The Hunter Moon ๐ŸŒ is on Saturday, October 12th. The sun will rise at 6:43 am with the first light at 6:15 am, which is one minute and 5 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ Tonight will have 11 hours and 50 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 51 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have a chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 2pm. Partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 85 degrees at 3pm. 16 degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 65 at 10am. Summer like for sure. South wind 8 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 66 degrees. The record high of 97 was set in 1895.

In four weeks on October 20 the sun will be setting at 6:06 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 47 minutes and 25 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had partly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 62 and 46 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 58 and 38 degrees. The record high of 80 degrees was set back in 1965.

Tomorrow I will probably go to Walmart and get more blue jeans ๐Ÿ‘–. I wrecked the one pair and I’m running low on pairs that aren’t ripped or falling apart. Maybe I can order them online and save the trip. Tuesday I need to go to State Farm and Slingerlands and present my insurance discount certificate. I might walk there. Wednesday is the Guilderland Planning Board meeting but I’m not sure if I can make it as I want to avoid driving the truck until it’s been looked at next week. Thursday is going over to John Wolcott house. I’ll walk there. Next weekend is staying home, cleaning and planning out my autumn road trip.

Looking ahead, Average High is 60 ๐Ÿ‚ is in 3 weeks, Daylight Savings Time Ends ๐Ÿ›ฅ๏ธ is in 6 weeks, Average High is 50 ๐Ÿ‚ is in 7 weeks, December ๐ŸŽ„ is in 10 weeks, Bill of Rights Day ๐Ÿ“œ is in 12 weeks, Days are Getting Longer โ˜€๏ธ is in 3 months, National Pie Day ๐Ÿฐ is in 17 weeks, 5:30 PM Dusk ๐ŸŒ† is in 18 weeks and Election Day 2020 ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ is in 6 weeks.

September 19, 2019 Night

Good evening! Clear and 57 degrees in Delmar, NY. Calm wind. The dew point is 45 degrees.

I made up fish ๐Ÿ  sticks and went for my evening walk. ๐Ÿšถ Definitely getting darker earlier but I do prefer now to do m walk earlier. This way when I procrastinate I don’t miss my walk. Plus doing the walk past the high school ๐Ÿšธ during the winter months at nine o’clock is pretty desolate. I’ve heard they’ve had a lot of problems with muggings again in the city and who knows if they could spill out into the suburbs.

I got to Walmart to get the supplies I needed plus food for the weekend ๐Ÿฒ and gased up Big Red. Finally got new boots, ๐Ÿ‘ข my old ones were in really rough shape. I’ll old pack tomorrow and get things ready as I have to leave by 7:30 AM on Saturday for the Save the Pine Bush Bird ๐Ÿฆ Hike. After that I’ll probably paddle along Lily Lake and camp up at Pisceo-Powley Road for one last time this year and check out the Potholers on Sunday. ๐ŸŠ Going to be remarkably warm this weekend but I bet with these cold nights the water temperatures have fallen dramatically. Maybe they’ll also be some good color up north.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 44 degrees at 6am. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 3rd. Calm wind. Going to be another cold night. I probably should close the windows but I’m not willing to give up on the fresh air for this year. It might be chilly when I climb out of bed but I have hot coffee and will shower ๐Ÿšฟ when I awake. Need to get used to the cold for autumn camping โ›บ and hunting season. In 2018, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 58 degrees. The record low of 30 occurred back in 1979.

Tonight will have a Waning Gibbous Moon ๐ŸŒ– with 60% illuminated. The moon will set at 12:49 am. The Last Quarter Moon will be tomorrow with partly cloudy skies. The Hunter Moon ๐ŸŒ is on Saturday, October 12th. Nice, while I’m on vacation. The sun will rise at 6:39 am with the first light at 6:11 am, which is one minute and 5 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ Tonight will have 11 hours and 41 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 51 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have patchy dense fog before 8am. ๐ŸŒ Otherwise, sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 76 degrees at 3pm. Five degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 7th. Maximum dew point of 49 at 6pm. Calm wind becoming northwest around 5 mph in the afternoon. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 72 degrees. The record high of 90 was set in 1946.

I am trying to carefully plan out my autumn trip this year so it’s not so disorganized as two years ago. ๐Ÿ‚2017 was a tough year with my parents health, they had a lot of issues so my October Trip to West Virginia wasn’t very well planned but it worked out fine. It just didn’t involve seeing a lot of new places and the places I saw – namely that Ohiopyle State Park was underwhelming. But I’m more of a wilderness camper.โ›บ I think this year I want to see Hyner View in Pennsylvania during the autumn and hopefully the leaves will still be on the trees up in Cannan Heights and the Black River Falls area and some good colors when I drive up Spruce Mountain the highest peak in the Mountain State. ๐Ÿ—ป Driving down to New River Gorge should be really interesting and give me a chance to see more of the mountain state, including parts of Southern West Virginia which are supposedly much more southern in culture.

In four weeks on October 17 the sun will be setting at 6:10 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 48 minutes and 14 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had mostly sunny, rain showers and temperatures between 57 and 39 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 59 and 39 degrees. The record high of 85 degrees was set back in 1947.

Looking ahead, Northern Zone Regular Season ๐ŸฆŒ is a month away, Halloween ๐Ÿ›ฅ๏ธ is in 6 weeks, Thanksgiving ๐Ÿฆƒ is in 10 weeks, Repeal of Prohibition Day ๐Ÿบ is in 11 weeks, Boxing Day ๐ŸฅŠ is in 14 weeks, National Cheese Lovers Day ๐Ÿง€ is in 18 weeks and National Pie Day ๐Ÿฐ is in 4 months.

Farm Tractor

September 17, 2019 Night

Good evening! Clear and 61 degrees at the NYS Capitol, waiting for the bus to take me home. ๐Ÿš There is a north-northeast breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 45 degrees. A fairly nice autumn evening.

I went over to John Wolcott’s house for a while this evening. ๐Ÿ” No real interesting historical documents were found tonight. Mostly duplicates of existing documents. Definitely gets dark though early this time of year.

I finally took off the week of October 5th for my West Virginia trip. ๐Ÿ‚ Should be a nice week, assuming the weather is decent. Probably with September closing out so warm and sunny it will be rainy and cold by then but do be it. Might still be some leaves left by then in the High Country of West Virginia.

I’m going to be home ๐Ÿก too late to fix the solder joint on the display in my bedroom ๐Ÿ“Ÿ but it’s working fine now that I’m back feeding power using a USB cable to the microprocessor. Tomorrow is the Pine Bush Dinner, so I’ll be home even later tomorrow.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 47 degrees at 6am. Four degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 26th. North wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. In 2018, we had light drizzle in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It was sticky. It got down to 68 degrees. The record low of 35 occurred back in 1986.

Tonight will have a Waning Gibbous Moon ๐ŸŒ– with 78% illuminated. The moon will set at 10:44 am. The Last Quarter Moon is on Friday night with mostly clear then patchy fog skies. The Hunter Moon ๐ŸŒ is on Saturday, October 12th. The sun will rise at 6:36 am with the first light at 6:08 am, which is one minute and 5 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ Tonight will have 11 hours and 35 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 51 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have patchy fog before 9am. Otherwise, sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 70 degrees at 3pm. One degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 21st. Maximum dew point of 47 at 8am. Calm wind becoming north 5 to 7 mph in the morning. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. It was sticky. The high last year was 84 degrees. The record high of 91 was set in 1891.

That should be another nice autumn day, ๐Ÿ‚ before the heat builds in for the weekend. That said, even a hot late September weekend really isn’t that oppressive and I doubt it would be super humid. I do look forward to at getting one final night up at Pisceo-Powley Road before winter.

In four weeks on October 15 the sun will be setting at 6:13 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 48 minutes and 39 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had mostly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 61 and 39 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 60 and 40 degrees. The record high of 86 degrees was set back in 1897.

I hear Gulf Brook Road to Boreas Pond is now open. ๐Ÿšค I’m thinking about checking that out come mid to late November assuming that there is no snow โ›„ up there. I bet by then all of the crowds will be gone, especially on a week day. Might be the same trip that I also hike back to Pharoah Lake and maybe camp along the Vanderwhacker River in Newcomb. โ›บ That could be a nice adventure for late November.

I was looking below and fifteen weeks is all that’s left this year of 2019. โณ New Years Eve 2020 will be hear before you know it. Time sure goes fast. I can’t believe we are already contemplating the end of the decade. Okay maybe not the decade but the 2010s are nearly done and the 2020s are just around the corner. The way I look at it – the next day may be problematic for our county but I’m entering my prime earning years – my 40s and if I work hard and save I’ll be much closer to my goals by the end of the 2020s. I might toast the end of the 2010s in the wilderness this year, it depends on how much snow there is at that point. ๐ŸŽ‰ Maybe camp at Cherry Ridge in Brookfield if it’s still snow free at that point?

Looking ahead, October ๐Ÿ›ฅ is in 2 weeks, Election Day 2019 ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ is in 7 weeks, Regular Deer Season in Southern Zone ๐ŸฆŒ is in 2 months, 7:15 AM Sunrise โŒ›๏ธ is in 12 weeks, Christmas Eve ๐ŸŽ… is in 14 weeks, New Years Eve ๐ŸŽ† is in 15 weeks, Coldest Week of the Year ๐ŸŒฌ is in 17 weeks and Martin Luther King Day ๐Ÿ–ค is in 18 weeks.

Natural Rock Dam at End of Red River

September 16, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. Listening to Harry Nielson’s Everybody Talkin from the soundtrack of Midnight Cowboy. ๐Ÿค  I was listening to that song and singing it as I drove through Medusa on the way back from the Catskills. ๐ŸŽถ Everytime I drive through the hick town ๐Ÿšœ I grew up in I feel a lot like Rip Van Winkle. Next Monday is Autumn ๐Ÿ‚. It’s coming and it already cooled off a lot from summer although the weekend should be quite warm. ๐Ÿ˜Ž

After a rainy and cloudy night it’s gotten pretty nice out in and it should be nice week. Partly cloudy and 62 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ›… There is a north-northeast breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 51 degrees.

Today will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 75 degrees at 4pm. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 10th. Maximum dew point of 54 at 11am. North wind around 6 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. It was humid. The high last year was 89 degrees. The record high of 92 was set in 1939.

The sun will set at 7:04 pm with dusk around 7:32 pm, which is one minute and 47 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 66 degrees. The dew point will be 51 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 12 hours and 28 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 51 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 48 degrees at 5am. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 24th. Northwest wind 3 to 6 mph. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It was humid. It got down to 67 degrees. The record low of 32 occurred back in 1959.

Awesome final summer weekend on tap, with temperatures running 11 degrees above normal. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Saturday, sunny, with a high near 80. Maximum dew point of 61 at 4pm. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 83. Maximum dew point of 61 at 2pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 70 degrees.

I kind of wish I could take a long weekend but I have the Pine Bush Hike Saturday and Ethics Training on Monday monrning. But I plan on going up to the Adirondacks for at least Saturday night and spend some time at the potholers. ๐ŸŠ I might also swing by Moss Island to explore on the way up there after the Pine Bush Hike.๐ŸŒฒ

It was a nice hike up Windham High Peak, โ›ฐ not too long of a hike, and when I was up there mid-day, not a lot of crowds. But still a good leg stretcher, as I work to build up stamina for hiking down in West Virginia in a few weeks. Didn’t have to get up real early or do much, good hike for a Saturday afternoon. I thought about also doing Burnt Knob, but that’s a lot of up and down between the peaks, so I decided to just hang out on the mountain longer.

Yesterday, while I was hiking Windham High Peak,ย I was thinking it would be fun to another winter camping trip this winter. โ„ Maybe take a long weekend to head out to the Finger Lakes in mid-February? I liked camping in the Finger Lakes National Forest last December, because many of the roads are plowed, you can stay more then 3 nights without a permit, and the gorges are pretty in the winter.

As previously noted, next Monday is Autumn ๐Ÿ‚ when the sun will be setting at 6:51 pm with dusk at 7:19 pm. On that day in 2018, we had partly sunny, patches of fog and temperatures between 66 and 45 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 69 degrees. We hit a record high of 97 back in 1895.

Scutt Road

September 9, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. Yes it has. But the fare box is broken on the bus so I’m getting to ride to work for free! ๐Ÿ†“ ๐Ÿš Two weeks to Autumn ๐Ÿ‚. Mostly cloudy โ˜and 52 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a north breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 50 degrees.

I also found the Bluetooth adapter for my laptop so I can once again listen to music in bed ๐ŸŽถ or ride my exercise bike while watching videos I’ve downloaded. ๐Ÿ“น So I guess I’m winning on this Monday morning.

Today will be partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 72 degrees at 3pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 16th. Maximum dew point of 50 at 8am. North wind 3 to 6 mph. Should be another nice fall like day. ๐Ÿ‘A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 63 degrees. The record high of 94 was set in 1959.

It was a good weekend but it sure came and went quickly. Back to work today, ๐Ÿ’ผ the Monday meeting in two hours. Hopefully the week will go fast, gong down to city tomorrow probably will at least break the week up.

The sun will set at 7:16 pm with dusk around 7:45 pm, which is one minute and 45 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for partly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 66 degrees. The dew point will be 49 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 12 hours and 48 minutes of daytime, an decrease of 2 minutes and 49 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 50 degrees at 5am. Four degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 19th. Calm wind. In 2018, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 51 degrees. The record low of 34 occurred back in 1978.

Still having display errors and freezing of the digits on the display in my bedroom. ๐Ÿ“ŸI think I need to fix one of the solder joints which had probably come loose. Despite the clouds around this morning, high pressure is building in this morning, at least according to the display.

The weekend forecast doesn’t look real great. ๐Ÿ˜• Saturday, a chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 77. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Maximum dew point of 66 at 2pm. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 77. Maximum dew point of 59 at 4pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 73 degrees.

This weekend I’m helping my sister move ๐Ÿšชon Saturday then on Sunday I’ll probably go hiking again, maybe back on down to the Catskills I’m undecided. Lots of things that should have gotten done over this past weekend didn’t happen but I guess there is always after work.๐Ÿ˜•

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Autumn ๐Ÿ‚ when the sun will be setting at 6:51 pm with dusk at 7:19 pm. On that day in 2018, we had partly sunny, patches of fog and temperatures between 66 and 45 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 69 degrees. We hit a record high of 97 back in 1895.

Limited Use Highway

September 8, 2019 Night

Good evening! Partly cloudy and 54 degrees in Dormansville, NY. ๐ŸŒƒ Calm wind. The dew point is 51 degrees. The skies will clear around 10 pm.

It was a nice weekend with lots of hiking ๐Ÿšถ and helping out with trail work. I enjoyed hiking the Harding Road Trail, it might be fun to do again when the leaves are off the trees again. But before it’s icy, obviously as there is some steep drop offs from the trail. Definitely a good trail and not the crowds of other trails, especially if you park on Whites Road Parking Area ๐Ÿ…ฟ and hike back from there. I should also think about hiking the Sleepy Hollow Horse Trail ๐Ÿดnext time. Saves gas compared to driving up into the mountains and gets the heart โ™ฅ pumping blood and working well. Harding Road used to be a horse trail but after some of the original stone bridges washed out after Irene it was downgraded to hiking only.๐ŸŒ€ Parts of the trail are pretty rough at least for horse back and kind of tough on my ankles and knees with the long downgrade. ๐Ÿ˜ฉ Gawd I’m getting old. I need to hike more.

I noticed one of the Bear Hunters ๐Ÿป I passed up there, harvested a bear later in the evening and posted it on NY Hunt Club Facebook group. Good for him. Another person I knew from High School also apparently got a bear up there with a handgun a few days ago. There really are a ton of bears around North South Lake Campground – I’ve seen more hiking around there than any other part of the Adirondacks or Catskills I’ve seen which is backed up by the DEC harvest statistics. ๐Ÿ”ซ If I had land I would Big Game hunt but I have no place to drain a deer or bury guts.

Parents cooked chicken for dinner ๐Ÿ” and I’m staying overnight in my truck. Im hoping to get a good night’s sleep, it’s good sleeping weather and lately I’ve not been sleeping well. I got non stick spray today at the store after hiking and I’ll either get sweet corn ๐ŸŒฝ tomorrow or maybe at the Farmers Market on Wednesday. ๐Ÿšœ

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 49 degrees at 5am. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 22nd. Light north wind. In 2018, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 48 degrees. The record low of 36 occurred back in 1938.

Tonight will have a Waxing Gibbous Moon ๐ŸŒ” with 85% illuminated. The moon will set at 1:51 am. The ๐ŸŒ• is on Friday night with a chance of showers. The sun will rise at 6:28 am with the first light at 5:59 am, which is one minute and 3 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ Tonight will have 11 hours and 10 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 48 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 72 degrees at 3pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 16th. Maximum dew point of 49 at 1pm. North wind around 6 mph becoming calm in the afternoon. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 63 degrees. The record high of 94 was set in 1959.

In four weeks on October 6 the sun will be setting at 6:29 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 49 minutes and 21 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 65 and 47 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 64 and 43 degrees. The record high of 90 degrees was set back in 1900.

Looking ahead, Average High is 60 ๐Ÿ‚ is in 5 weeks, Daylight Savings Time Ends ๐Ÿ›ฅ๏ธ is in 8 weeks, Average High is 50 ๐Ÿ‚ is in 9 weeks, December ๐ŸŽ„ is in 12 weeks, Bill of Rights Day ๐Ÿ“œ is in 14 weeks, Days are Getting Longer โ˜€๏ธ is in 15 weeks, National Pie Day ๐Ÿฐ is in 19 weeks, 5:30 PM Dusk ๐ŸŒ† is in 20 weeks and Election Day 2020 ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ is in 8 weeks.

Walking Through the Plains

September 5, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Beautiful Fall Thursday. The skies are blue, the sun is shining, it’s comfortable, not only too cool or hot. Nice walk down to the bus. ๐ŸšŒ Wore my Carhartt vest for the first time this year. Next Thursday is 6:30 Sunrise ๐ŸŒ‡. Mornings are a bit dark now although surpringly I awoke pretty early, made eggs for breakfast ๐Ÿณ and pasta for lunch ๐Ÿฒ. Mostly sunny and 56 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜€โ˜€โ˜€โ˜€ Even though there is only one sun, I’ll give it four this morning. Calm wind. The dew point is 51 degrees.

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 73 degrees at 2pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 13th. Maximum dew point of 51 at 8am. Calm wind becoming north around 5 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. It was very sticky. The high last year was 92 degrees. The record high was set last year.

The sun will set at 7:22 pm with dusk around 7:51 pm, which is one minute and 44 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 65 degrees. The dew point will be 48 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 12 hours and 57 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 48 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 50 degrees at 4am. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 19th. Calm wind. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It was very sticky. It got down to 69 degrees. The record low of 38 occurred back in 1938.

Last night I went for my evening walk early — before sunset ๐Ÿšถ and it was quite pleasant. I’ve gotten out of the habit of the evening walk, and I didn’t want to risk getting busy with the work project I was doing last night, and then miss my walk. That was a good thing, because I ended up working on that project until almost 11 PM.๐Ÿ’ป

A picture perfect autumn weekend on tap. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 70. North wind around 7 mph. Maximum dew point of 55 at 5pm. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 72. Maximum dew point of 55 at 10am. Typical average high for the weekend is 76 degrees.

I think Saturday I will stay in town, but Sunday go out hiking. ๐Ÿšถย I have a lot of things to do around home on Saturday including get my hair cut, but maybe I’ll hike out to Five Rivers in the afternoon. ๐Ÿธ Sunday I may go hiking in the Catskills, or maybe hunting/fishing at Partridge Run. ๐ŸŽฃ๐Ÿฟ๏ธ I really enjoyed hiking Hunter Mountain the other day, so I’m thinking another hike would be nice.โ›ฐ

I was thinking last night that it’s been 18 years since the September 11th terrorist attacks. ๐Ÿข A child born shortly after September 11th ๐Ÿ‘ถ can now vote in the election this year. โŽ I was a freshman in college, 18 years old when the attacks hit. That’s half a lifetime ago now for me. It makes the eighteen years between birth ๐ŸŽ‚ and high school graduation ๐ŸŽ“ seem so inconsequential. Assuming I “retire” young to have my off grid cabin and hobby farm ๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿท๐Ÿค, in another 18 years I’ll likely be close to retirement.

One month until my October Road Trip to West Virginia. ๐Ÿ‚ย The first day I will drive down to Towanda Penna, then down to West Virginia via Interstate 99 on that Sunday. ๐Ÿ• I’m hoping for real nice weather, and this being a week earlier then last year, hopefully the leaves will be close to peak in higher elevations, such as off of Spruce Mountain and Canaan Heights.

As previously noted, next Thursday is 6:30 Sunrise ๐ŸŒ‡ when the sun will be setting at 7:10 pm with dusk at 7:38 pm. On that day in 2018, we had humid, partly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 74 and 66 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 74 degrees. We hit a record high of 94 back in 1947.

Powley Bridge
