August 30, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Sunday. Three weeks to Average High 70 ๐ŸŽ‘ . Tick, tick, tick, โณ autumn is coming. ๐Ÿ‚ I know that’s more ticks than a Chevy 5.3 engine makes. But today will feel pretty autumn like too. Partly sunny and 62 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ›…There is a west-northwest breeze at 10 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 62 degrees.

I have some work stuff to do and I’m enjoying my coffee โ˜•. It’s a beautiful day and I’ll head up to Partridge Run by the midday I think after some lunch. ๐ŸŒฏ I do need to go shopping for food ๐Ÿ›’ but I’ll do that come Monday or Tuesday once I have a better plan what I want to do next weekend. I’m now thinking about a trip to the Green Mountains next weekend. โ›ฐ๏ธ

Some years it seems like autumn comes late and others early. ๐Ÿ This year it seems like we’ve had a lot of cool August days rather than the sultry days that are common but I wouldn’t be shocked if things don’t change come September and we don’t get at least a few hot days although it gets difficult with the average high dropping so quickly. ๐ŸŒฝ Seems like a lot of people are starting to chop corn silage now. ๐Ÿ‘จ๐Ÿปโ€๐ŸŒพ

I’ve been watching to see when Piseco Powley Road will reopen, ๐Ÿšง hoping for easy access to the Potholers so I can do an autumn trip up there maybe combined with a day in Little Falls and Moss Island ๐Ÿ out hiking and paddling. Fall camping is fun at the Potholers especially if it’s warm – but it sure gets dark early. But the farm stands are good this time of year. ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ’๐Ÿ…๐Ÿฅ”๐Ÿฅ•๐ŸŒฝ

Today will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 73 degrees at 3pm. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 13th. Maximum dew point of 62 at 7am. Northwest wind 10 to 14 mph. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 82 degrees. The record high of 98 was set in 1953.

Should be a really nice day. โ˜บ I just need to figure out where I want to go while avoiding crowds. There definitely are lots of options that I could do of I want. Probably don’t want though to stray too far from home as I did a pretty good trip last week – maybe Partridge Run I’m thinking. ๐Ÿฆ‰

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:57 pm with sun having an altitude of 56.2ยฐ from the due south horizon (-14.7ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 4 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 6:57 pm with the sun in the west (277ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (283ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:34 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 59 seconds with dusk around 8:01 pm, which is one minute and 41 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Full ๐ŸŒ Moon in the southeast (132ยฐ) at an altitude of 12ยฐ from the horizon, 242,210 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:38 pm. At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 67 degrees. The dew point will be 50 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 8 mph. Today will have 13 hours and 13 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 45 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 50 degrees at 5am. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 19th. Northwest wind around 6 mph becoming calm in the evening. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 54 degrees. The record low of 37 occurred back in 1965.

On this day in 1967, Thurgood Marshall is confirmed as the first African American Justice ๐Ÿ‘จ๐Ÿพโ€โš–๏ธ of the Supreme Court of the United States. โš– And in 1974, a powerful bomb explodes at the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries headquarters in Marunouchi, Tokyo, Japan. ๐Ÿ‡ฏ๐Ÿ‡ต ๐Ÿ’ฃEight are killed, 378 are injured. ๐Ÿ‘ฎ๐Ÿฝ Eight left-wing activists are arrested on May 19, 1975 by Japanese authorities.

I am looking at next weekends forecast โ˜€ and it looks so nice. I wonder what I should do or plan. โ›บ I will need cell service for work ๐Ÿ“ถ so that limits my options somewhat and I want to avoid the crowds. Maybe Vermont I’m thinking ๐Ÿ’ญ for a few days. I’ll have to think about it some more – I was actually planning to avoid crowds next week and wait until mid September but we’ll see. ๐ŸAnother option is tent or lean to camping in the back country. But I’m still looking forward to to September camping after the crowds clear out. ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿป

As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until the Average High 70 ๐ŸŽ‘ when the sun will be setting at 6:55 pm with dusk at 7:23 pm. On that day in 2019, we had partly sunny, patches of fog and temperatures between 79 and 42 degrees. We hit a record high of 90 back in 1946.

Man I do like looking at those off-grid cabins. ๐Ÿก So many people have such nice places that are small, simple and easy to clean and heat with wood. In an era of the 3,000 square foot house, those little 400 or 500 ft square cabins are so appealing – not a lot of place for junk. I think it would be more fun to have goats ๐Ÿ and pigs ๐Ÿ–than all that plastic stuff in subunanite houses. I want to read a book ๐Ÿ“™ on goat farming next.

 North Fork Gap

August 29, 2020 Night

Good evening! Cloudy and damp around 70 degrees on Delmar. โ˜๏ธ There is a west breeze at 13 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 67 degrees. The skies will clear around 9 pm.

Not a super nice day so I stayed home ๐Ÿก and read and worked on a variety of little projects. I wanted to go for an evening walk ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป but the threat of rain was much too high. Tomorrow I’ll get out hiking. Put together some new maps ๐Ÿ—บ๏ธand stuff for the blog, was reading another book ๐Ÿ“™ about homesteading. ๐Ÿ Cheeses and dairy science is fascinating stuff ๐Ÿง€ – minor changes in processing milk ๐Ÿฅ› can create vastly different effects products or more likely ruin it entirely.

I finally baked up that cookie mix ๐Ÿชthat expired in April. Good peanut ๐Ÿฅœ butter cookies that I bought last fall for my West Virginia trip but never eat. ๐Ÿ˜‹ I figured I better eat it before the mice get in an chew holes in the packaging.๐ŸIt’s been a bad year for mice in the woods – something people were talking about yesterday on Facebook and I noticed we’re bad both in the Finger Lakes and Piseco Powley Road.

Tonight will have a slight chance of showers before 11pm. Partly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 58 degrees at 5am. Typical for tonight. Maximum dew point of 67 at 9pm. West wind 10 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 57 degrees. The record low of 38 occurred back in 1982.

Tonight will have a Waxing Gibbous ๐ŸŒ” Moon with 90% illuminated. At 9 PM, the moon was in the south-southeast (156ยฐ) at an altitude of 21ยฐ from the horizon, some 239,388 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. ๐Ÿš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by February 27th. Buckle up for safety! ๐Ÿ’บ The darkest hour is at 12:57 am, followed by dawn at 5:49 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:19 am in the east-northeast (77ยฐ) and last for 2 minutes and 59 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 4 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:56 am with sun in the east (83ยฐ). Tonight will have 10 hours and 44 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 44 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 72 degrees at 3pm. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 16th. Maximum dew point of 58 at 7am. Northwest wind 13 to 15 mph. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 82 degrees. The record high of 98 was set in 1953. The great Heat Wave of 1953.

Should be a nice autumn like day. ๐Ÿ‚ Nice change from the humidity and stormy weather today. I am thinking of doing some hiking and fishing ๐ŸŽฃ at Partridge Run tomorrow. Should be a great day to spend outdoors but maybe a bit chilly by the time I go out to my parents house for Sunday dinner. ๐Ÿฒ But then again, Tuesday is September. Summer has quickly bit the dust.

I get so tired of hearing so many police ๐Ÿšจ sirens lately. The past few months they really have been abusing them it seems. For a while they were relatively quiet, tapping the sirens only briefly at the traffic light ๐Ÿšฆ to warn motorists but lately it’s been non-stop and it’s annoying. That and the super throaty motorcycles and trucks ๐Ÿ. Maybe I’m noticing it more this year as I’m home all of the time I’m not in the woods enjoying the quiet. ๐Ÿคซ

I am planning my next trip after Labor Day Weekend. ๐Ÿ‚ I’ll have to get out my blaze orange and gun cleaned up at that point. I’m thinking the Spectulator Area most likely especially if I’m planning several weekdays because the library is a pleasant place to work for Zoom Meetings. After October 1st I might camp and work from a combination of Stoney Pond State Forest and Charles Baker. โ›บ I can probably get Wi-Fi at the Cazenovia and Hamilton libraries out there for Zoom. Remote work has its benefits. ๐Ÿ’ปNo permit is needed for Stoney Pond State Forest after October 1st and it’s unlikely I’ll see anyone there except maybe a grizzled old hunter. ๐ŸŽซ Fishing in Nelson Swamp is a lot of fun too.

I really enjoy reading and looking at pictures of folks off grid properties on the Facebook. ๐Ÿก I just really like the simple and the small with lots of land in remote country. Some folks are really fancy or big builders but that certainly aint me. Some are into art work and making things pretty but I’m fine with chipboard for walls. The less you have, the less to spend money on, the less to break or have to throw away regularly. ๐Ÿ› ๏ธ

I’ve considered doing a trip in October to the Finger Lakes ๐Ÿ’ป and remote working from there but I have concerns about the length of day and having enough sunlight then to keep things charged and the long trip back to Albany after hours should something break that I can’t continue to work from there likedead fuse, inverter or other problems with the solar system which I couldn’t fix in the field. โฌ› It would be fun though to enjoy the leaves, ๐Ÿ hunt before 9 AM ๐Ÿฟ๏ธ๐Ÿฐ๐Ÿฆƒand then work the rest of the day from camp but maybe exhausting to boot. At the National Forest you can camp for two weeks in one site, no permits required.

I also don’t want to put on too many miles or break shit in my truck ๐Ÿ”งbefore the state inspection in November. Since addressing the tire wear issue on the truck in June things have been a lot better at slowing the wear and I’m not concerned about this year’s inspection but I also don’t want to have any kind of costly repairs this autumn if possible. ๐Ÿ”ฉ

In four weeks on September 26 the sun will be setting in the west (269ยฐ) at 6:45 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 49 minutes and 15 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had partly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 69 and 53 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 68 and 47 degrees. The record high of 90 degrees was set back in 2017.

Looking ahead, Northern Zone Regular Season ๐ŸฆŒ is in 7 weeks, Halloween ๐Ÿ›ฅ๏ธ and the Blue Moon ๐ŸŒ• is in 9 weeks, Small Business Saturday ๐Ÿ›๏ธ is in 13 weeks, Repeal of Prohibition Day ๐Ÿบ is in 14 weeks, Boxing Day ๐ŸฅŠ is in 17 weeks, Cold Moon ๐ŸŒ• is in 4 months, Static Electric Shock Day ๐Ÿงผ is in 19 weeks, National Cheese Lovers Day ๐Ÿง€ is in 21 weeks, 38th Birthday ๐ŸŽ‰ is in 5 months, Save the Pine Bush Turns 43 ๐Ÿฆ‹ is in 23 weeks, 5:30 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ† is in 25 weeks, Snow Moon ๐ŸŒ• is in 26 weeks and Snow Moon ๐ŸŒ• is in 26 weeks.

On this day in 1966, the Beatles perform their last concert before paying fans at Candlestick Park in San Francisco during a thunderstorm โ›ˆ. After this, if you wanted to hear the beatles, you had to listen to them on vinyl records or AM radio.๐ŸŽ™๏ธ๐Ÿฅ๐ŸŽธ๐ŸŽน Their next album would be Sargent Pepper’s Lonely Club Heart band, and it would have a dramatically different sound then the Love, Love Me Do records.๐Ÿ”Š๐Ÿ“€

Hints of Fall ?

August 28, 2020 Night

Good evening! Partly clear and 72 degrees in Delmar, NY. Calm wind. ๐ŸŒ†The dew point is 59 degrees.

It was a nice walk ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป out to Five Rivers this evening ๐Ÿฆ although I wish I had brought my binoculars and it didn’t get dark so early this time of year. Sat out back for a while but I’m tired ๐Ÿ˜ด and wanted to take my contacts out so I’m in bed. ๐Ÿ› Still a nice day out there and I prefer the walk out there to driving – somehow it just feels a lot farther away and more rural when you walk then drive.

I am continuing to research used bicycles ๐Ÿšฒ online, especially ones that are simple traditional bikes for commuting. Also started to look at good bike routes and how long it would take to bike to various places I like to visit locally. You don’t realize how far and quickly you can cover in an automobile ๐Ÿš˜ outside of the city. ๐Ÿ™ But on the other hand, bikes are super fast for getting around urban areas when you consider the time it takes to park. ๐Ÿ…ฟ I do think I shouldn’t quit motoring ๐Ÿ cold turkey ๐Ÿฆƒ but should try to transition away from driving over the next year. Bicycling to get around town can be tricky with the snow and ice and the rusty chain and parts from the salt. Money ๐Ÿ’ต is just always so tight these days and driving is expensive.

Tonight will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 1am. Patchy fog after midnight. Otherwise, increasing clouds ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 61 degrees at 6am. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around August 13th. Maximum dew point of 62 at 6am. Light and variable wind. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2019, we had light rain in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It was somewhat humid. It got down to 59 degrees. The record low of 34 occurred back in 1982.

Tonight will have a Waxing Gibbous ๐ŸŒ” Moon with 83% illuminated. At 8 PM, the moon was in the south-southeast (156ยฐ) at an altitude of 20ยฐ from the horizon, some 236,328 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. ๐Ÿš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by February 24th. Buckle up for safety! ๐Ÿ’บ The Harvest ๐ŸŒฝ Moon is on Tuesday, September 1. The darkest hour is at 12:58 am, followed by dawn at 5:48 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:17 am in the east-northeast (76ยฐ) and last for 2 minutes and 59 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 4 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:55 am with sun in the east (83ยฐ). Tonight will have 10 hours and 41 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 44 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Patchy fog before 9am. ๐ŸŒง High of 80 degrees at 3pm. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around August 23rd. Maximum dew point of 71 at 1pm. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ South wind 8 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. It was humid. The high last year was 79 degrees. The record high of 96 was set in 2018.

Tomorrow is going to be a stay home day. ๐Ÿก I guess if it’s not rainy โ˜” in the afternoon I might walk down to the Town Park but I don’t have big plans for the day at any rate. Sunday looks a whole lot better. I do want to read ๐Ÿ“– tomorrow and there may be some work stuff to do this weekend.

In four weeks on September 25 the sun will be setting in the west (269ยฐ) at 6:46 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 49 minutes and 8 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 76 and 50 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 68 and 48 degrees. The record high of 91 degrees was set back in 2017.

Facebook suggested a bunch of new off-grid groups to follow ๐Ÿก and they’re kind of interesting. I’m still following my saving and investments plan, but it’s just a matter of time. But truth be told I’m making good money at my job now ๐Ÿ’ฐand the work is fun and interesting and varied from what it is. I like being able to visit my parents and travel while I’m still fairly young ๐Ÿฎ before I own my off-grid property and are stuck there more settled down. But then I’ll have much less of a need to travel to the wilderness to get away. ๐Ÿบ

I really do want to move back to a small town and own land, and it makes me jealous of those people who I know who have but maybe someday. ๐Ÿฝ I know it’s all those North Idaho pig farmers I follow on the YouTube and the smell of silage ๐ŸŒฝ that is burned into my nostrils ๐Ÿ‘ƒ๐Ÿป after my week in the Finger Lakes.

And I can’t believe that Raymore and Flanigan is trying to sell me a sofa ๐Ÿ›‹๏ธ in the Podcast App I use nearly every time I open it. ๐ŸŽง With all the off grid and farm channels I follow do they really think ๐Ÿค” I’m going to be in the market for an expensive sofa. I heard moldy junk ones do burn really black in bonfires. ๐Ÿ”ฅ Maybe because I live in yuppie Delmar even though my heart โ™ฅ is in the woods or maybe cow and corn country. But then again I’ve been seeing ads for boots after Googling the word boot-licker. ๐Ÿ‘ข I guess a boot-licker needs something to lick when they’re not sucking up. ๐Ÿ‘…

Looking ahead, Labor Day Weekend Begins ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿญ is in 1 week, September 11th ๐Ÿ‡ธ is in 2 weeks, 7 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ† is in 3 weeks, Average High is 65 ๐Ÿ‚ is in 5 weeks, Average High is 55 ๐Ÿ‚ is in 2 months, Average Night Below Freezing ๐ŸŒŒ is in 11 weeks, Buy Nothing Day ๐Ÿ›๏ธ is in 13 weeks, Small Business Saturday ๐Ÿ›๏ธ is in 3 months, Average High is 40 ๐ŸŒจ is in 14 weeks, Bake Cookies Day ๐Ÿช is in 16 weeks, Christmas ๐ŸŽ… is in 17 weeks, 4:30 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ† is in 4 months, New Years Day 2020 ๐ŸŽ‰ is in 18 weeks, Bubble Bath Day ๐Ÿงผ is in 19 weeks, Wolf Moon ๐ŸŒ• is in 5 months and 37th Birthday ๐ŸŽ‰ is in 22 weeks.

Oh, my birthday ๐ŸŽ‚ is on a Friday. ๐Ÿ˜Š Might be fun if the pandemic is over but I have my doubts. Getting drunk at the bar during a pandemic ๐Ÿป is probably a terrible idea and who knows how many of my favorite truly hole in the wall waterhole will survive the pandemic. At least I probably won’t have to work late that night. I do remember how I spent my 36th birthday but at least I got paid ๐Ÿ’ต for it.

After Dusk

August 28, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Yeah, it’s Friday! Final Friday of August, September starts Tuesday. Such an odd year. Next Friday is Labor Day Weekend Begins. ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿญ Get your cutting torch out. Partly cloudy and 63 degrees in the land of the Delmaritian. โ›… Calm wind. The dew point is 62 degrees. The skies will clear around 9 am.

Today will have patchy fog before 9am. Seems about right, the sun is breaking out now. Otherwise, partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 78 degrees at 3pm. Typical for today. Maximum dew point of 63 at 8am. Northwest wind 3 to 7 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. It was humid. The high last year was 85 degrees. The record high of 98 was set in 1948.

I have that Zoom Meeting this morning at 10 am ๐Ÿคณ๐Ÿป so I probably should shave and maybe shower ๐Ÿšฟ so I don’t look like the dirty hick that I am. ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐ŸŒพ It’s a nice enough morning I’m tempted to drive down to the park ๐Ÿž and do it there rather than the library. I think ๐Ÿค” it might be a more comfortable place to do it.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:58 pm with sun having an altitude of 56.9ยฐ from the due south horizon (-13.9ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 3.9 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:00 pm with the sun in the west (278ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (284ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:38 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 59 seconds with dusk around 8:05 pm, which is one minute and 40 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The days are rapidly getting shorter now. At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Gibbous ๐ŸŒ” Moon in the south-southeast (157ยฐ) at an altitude of 20ยฐ from the horizon, 236,342 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:42 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 74 degrees. The dew point will be 62 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 13 hours and 19 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 44 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 1am. Increasing clouds ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 63 degrees at 3am. Five degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 63 at 6am. Calm wind. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2019, we had light rain in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It was somewhat humid. It got down to 59 degrees. The record low of 34 occurred back in 1982.

On this day in 1968, where the riots during the 1968 Democratic National Convention. ๐Ÿด Hubert Humphrey would go on to be nominated president and say lots of silly quotes. The Yippees had some great protests โœŒ๐ŸปโœŒ๐Ÿฟ and really put a bright public spotlight on some very valid concerns about the war. ๐Ÿ’ฅ

Tomorrow will have showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. ๐ŸŒง High of 78 degrees at 2pm. Typical for Tomorrow. Maximum dew point of 72 at 1pm. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ Muggy but wet so hardly beach weather. South wind 6 to 8 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. It was humid. The high last year was 79 degrees. The record high of 96 was set in 2018.

Looking ahead to Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 72. ๐ŸŒžNorthwest wind 7 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph. Maximum dew point of 57 at 6am. Typical average high for the weekend is 78 degrees.

I am hoping in two weeks after the Labor Day Holiday ๐Ÿ‚ to get up north and camp in the Spectulator area for an extended weekend and work from the Spectulator Library if we have some nice weather. By then I think the crowds will have cleared out. I do think Labor Day Weekend will be crazy ๐Ÿคช so I’ll probably spend that weekend either at home or maybe hammock or tent camping at a state forest somewhere. Never been one for crowds but with the pandemic I’m shunning them even more. โ›บ

I was reading ๐Ÿ“– more of that backyard pig ๐Ÿ–farming group I’m a member of on Facebook. ๐ŸŠ Apparently a lot of pigs don’t like citrus and they can be quite picky eaters. ๐Ÿฝ๏ธ You can’t feed a pig everything that is wet and won’t burn well in your burn barrel. ๐Ÿ”ฅ But most of that other stuff rots or chickens ๐Ÿ” will like it for a treat. Between using paper for bedding, feeding scraps and reusing plastic containers there is a lot one can do to reduce the amount of trash ๐Ÿ—‘ going up in smoke ๐Ÿ’ญ on a homestead.

As previously noted, next Friday is Labor Day Weekend Begins ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿญ when the sun will be setting at 7:24 pm with dusk at 7:52 pm. On that day in 2019, we had thunderstorm and temperatures between 80 and 59 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 77 degrees. We hit a record high of 97 back in 1929.

Steel

August 27, 2020 Night

Good evening! Cloudy, damp and 61 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜๏ธ Calm wind. The dew point is 60 degrees. The skies will clear tomorrow around 9 am.

It was a pretty quiet day at work today, especially in the afternoon. ๐Ÿคซ I worked from home all day and it rained a lot. I have a Zoom meeting tomorrow morning so I’ll probably drive down to there for a while. Watched some YouTube videos ๐Ÿ“ผI downloaded weeks ago after work and started to read but I couldn’t get into the book ๐Ÿ“™ I got from the library. No big loss for sure.

That YouTube video on Justin Rhodes channel of the unassisted cattle birth ๐Ÿ„ really is quite amazing video to watch ๐Ÿ“บ. I was also watching the Arms Family Homestead chase around pigs ๐Ÿฝ that had gotten loose and NB88 chop down trees ๐ŸŒฒthat were in risk of falling across his driveway ๐Ÿ’ฅ during the winter. Yeah, I do watch videos sometimes but I don’t have commercials when I watch them at home ๐Ÿก and I am sure most of commercial television is about glammer and not about shoveling poop ๐Ÿ’ฉ or moving cows.

Plan appropriately with your Oldsmobile with its Rocket Engine ๐Ÿš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by February 21st. I remember that day well when I was at Moose River Plains.๐Ÿ‚It was a hot day but the leaves were all past peak at the higher elevation in the plains due to the cold snap earlier in that month. Very odd year for sure that September. No hurricanes at least. ๐ŸŒ€

It seems like I’ll stay home ๐Ÿก most of today. I have a lot of projects going on for work and no Zoom Meetings. I think it will be too wet today for the morning walk ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป. That’s fine. I don’t have to go anywhere and it’s going to be quite wet at times although I’m not convinced all day will be a soaker with the radar.l

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:58 pm with sun having an altitude of 57.2ยฐ from the due south horizon (-13.6ยฐ vs. 6/21). Today in 1859, Petroleum is discovered in Titusville, Pennsylvania leading to the world’s first commercially successful oil well. ๐Ÿ›ข To this day, that town still smells like petroleum, and it floats in the creeks, but they produce much less oil today then at the peak around the turn of the century. Now most of barrels you see around Titusville are used by farm folk to incinerate their trash ๐Ÿ”ฅ.

Saturday looks increasingly wet thanks to the remnants of the hurricane. ๐Ÿ’ฆSaturday, showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. High near 78. South wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch possible. ๐ŸŒ€ Maximum dew point of 72 at 1pm. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 73. ๐ŸŒžMaximum dew point of 58 at 7am. Typical average high for the weekend is 78 degrees.

It looks like Saturday will be a good day to stay home and read ๐Ÿ“– while Sunday might be a good day for hiking and fishing ๐ŸŽฃ. I am not planning on heading out of town next weekend but after Labor Day Weekend I might take a trip somewhere. I was hoping that the Piseco Powley Bridge would be open by then but it doesn’t seem likely with the bridge re-opening being pushed back. So for all intents and purposes I don’t see myself camping until September although honestly that’s next Monday.

Facebook keeps showing me auto ๐Ÿš˜ ads as I thumbed through some of them. But I’m so tired of owning a truck and I just think I could save a lot of money not owning a car and using a bicycle ๐Ÿšฒ to get around town. But I still have a little over a year to decide – I do wonder about the costs of not being able to buy in bulk at Walmart, not being able to haul my own garbage to the transfer station or even taking laundry to the laundromat. Motoring is such a big chunk of change ๐Ÿ’ต for something you have to throw away – your car – every ten years or so.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until 6:30 Sunrise ๐ŸŒ‡ when the sun will be setting at 7:13 pm with dusk at 7:42 pm. On that day in 2019, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 77 and 52 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 75 degrees. We hit a record high of 96 back in 1931.
