December 4, 2019 Night

Good evening! Cloudy and 29 degrees in Delmar, NY. ☁ Calm wind. There are 19 inches of snow on the ground. β˜ƒ Starting to melt away a bit but there is still a lot of snow in places on the sidewalks. Roads are fine, taking the express both ways wasn’t bad but walking 🚶 down to the library I noticed the locals are still running behind schedule due to snow banks slowing traffic in the city. Got home close to the regular time.

This evening was the Crossgates Maul Movie 🎦 Theater expansion variance hearing that some of the Save the Pine Bush members went to but I was tired after the long day of work yesterday and that issue is a little bit out of my wheel house 🎡You got to pick your fights and this one isn’t mine. 🌲🌲🌳🐝Shading is bad but it’s not more development of the preserve. And I try to stay as non political as possible these days with my focus primarily on saving money and making a better tomorrow for myself. Not make waves locally just because I don’t view any future 🔮 in New York beyond making money the next few years.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy 🌥, with a low of 27 degrees at 1am. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around December 2nd. West wind 3 to 5 mph. Actually a relatively mild night for a change. In 2018, we had mist in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 39 degrees. The record low of 2 occurred back in 1989.

Tonight will have a Waxing Gibbous Moon 🌔 with 67% illuminated. The moon will set at 12:14 am. The Cold Moon 🌕 is next Wednesday. The sun will rise at 7:08 am with the first light at 6:37 am, which is one minute and one second later than yesterday. 🌄 Tonight will have 14 hours and 47 minutes of darkness, an increase of one minute and 13 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be partly sunny 🌞, with a high of 35 degrees at 11am. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around December 17th. West wind 7 to 15 mph. A year ago, we had mist. The high last year was 53 degrees. The record high of 65 was set in 2001. 9.0 inches of snow fell back in 1902.❄

It looks an another cool down with a few inches of snow come Friday and fairly cold for the weekend. β›„ That said, Monday and Tuesday will be mild and rainy, really eating away at the snow. Then a cold pattern will return and it might be quite cold and snowy the weekend before Christmas. This year seems on track for a White Christmas 🎄 which is actually quite uncommon around these parts but things could still change.

In four weeks on January 1 the sun will be setting at 4:32 pm,🌄 which is 9 minutes and 51 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had cold but sunny weather and temperatures between 11 and -10 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 31 and 16 degrees. The record high of 57 degrees was set back in 1966.

I’ve been working on updating the expired weather records for the blog. 📝 It took me a while to find the necessary reports on the weather service website and I had to update the code for reading the files due to changes in their field names. But hopefully I’ll have that up tomorrow.

One of my colleagues who is very conservative posted another one of those Russian pro government, cop 👮 worshipping articles and I so wanted to respond back on how I don’t worship government employees but I bit my tongue and remained quiet. I really just hate social media these days – not just because of the stupid things I say but how so often it makes me angry πŸ‘Ώ and frustrated 😤. I like my little corner of the internet much better where I’m free of nasty comments.

Looking ahead, Christmas 🎅 is in 3 weeks, New Years Day 2019 🎉 is in 4 weeks, National Bird Day 🐦 is in 6 weeks, 37th Birthday 🎉 is in 8 weeks and Inauguration Day 2021 👴🏻 is in 59 weeks.

Snowy Mountain from Watch Hill

December 4, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Average High is 40 🌨! It won’t be that warm this morning but it will get above freezing which is good. Three weeks to Christmas 🎅. Overcast and 29 degrees in Delmar, NY. ☁ There is a south breeze at 5 mph. 🍃. There are 17 inches of snow on the ground. β˜ƒ ️

We got another dusting of snow last night. ❄ Just enough to make the sidewalks a little bit icy. At least it’s better out here in the suburbs then the city. A few of the street sidewalk connections have snow plowed in them but if they apply some rock salt and hit it one more time with the sidewalk plows I expect by evening they’ll be dry. The suburban streets are all good too. 🚙

That said, there is a traffic jam going through the plaza today. 🏁 Not sure what the issue is maybe the tall snowbanks limiting visibility or the width of lanes. Doesn’t take much in the way of restrictions to slow up traffic at rush hour downtown.

After every snow storm – at least those ones I have to work late – I always get so pissed πŸ‘Ώ about the extreme traffic delays in the city. It just gets so cold waiting out for the bus after a long day at work 🚏then to just have to sit on the bus because traffic is stopped due to people blocking the road with their abandoned cars is so frustrating. 😤 When your tired and you just want to get home….

Today will have a slight chance of snow showers after 4pm. Mostly cloudy 🌦, with a high of 37 degrees at 1pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around December 11th. South wind 5 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had mist. The high last year was 39 degrees. The record high of 63 was set in 1998. 6.0 inches of snow fell back in 1901.❄

The sun will set at 4:22 pm with dusk around 4:54 pm, which is 13 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌇 At sunset, look for snow 🌨 and temperatures around 36 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 13 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 14 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a slight chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy 🌧, with a low of 27 degrees at 6am. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around December 2nd. Calm wind becoming west around 6 mph after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2018, we had mist in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 39 degrees. The record low of 2 occurred back in 1989.

Cool this weekend with temperatures running 8 degrees below normal but otherwise sunny. πŸ˜€ Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 27. Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 36. Typical average high for the weekend is 39 degrees.

As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until Christmas 🎅 when the sun will be setting at 4:27 pm with dusk at 4:59 pm. On that day in 2018, we had snow and temperatures between 33 and 17 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 33 degrees. We hit a record high of 66 back in 1889.

November Sun

November 24, 2019 Afternoon

Good afternoon! Rain and 37 degrees in Delmar, NY. β˜” There is a north-northwest breeze at 11 mph. 🍃. There is a dusting of snow on the ground. β˜ƒ Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 4 am. β˜ƒοΈ

It was nice camping β›Ί up north in the Adirondacks, and I was surprised that it wasn’t as loud as it sometimes is camping along the East Branch of the Sacanadaga River. Traffic just seemed lighter than normal but I don’t think Gore is open yet nor is snowmobile season and big game hunting season is winding down in the Northern Zone, a lot of people have already tagged out. That said almost all of hunting cabins up north that I passed looked fully occupied with smoke coming out the chimney and lots of pickup trucks parked out front.

Lot more snow than I expected ❄, although not really based on the snow fall estimates which are usually pretty good. Maybe four inches of snow at camp – not real deep but enough that I was glad the site was plowed out by the hunter who had the campsite for the season before they tagged out – probably yesterday – and packed up and left. They also left a ton of firewood 🔥 which was nice, although some of it was particle and chip board although both after I took my axe to it burned well and didn’t stink that much much.

Because I had so much wood I ended up hanging out in camp and starting the fire early 🔥, shoveling around as needed. I didn’t set up a hot tent because I didn’t want to have to dry out my tent in the morning. It did get a bit cold by the fire late around ten as I forgot to pack Long Johns and Wool Socks but once I was under the covers in my truck I was plenty warm. If I go back out on Black Friday to camp – possibly back to the same place – I’ll probably pitch a tent as it’s always nice to have a warm tent to curl up before bed in.

I sat back and had a nice breakfast. 🍳 There was light snow during the overnight, maybe an inch, but by 8 am the roads were just wet. Then relaxing next to the heater ♨, working on some blog posts in the winter wonderland until quarter to ten, while slowly taking down camp, it started to sleet then turn to big globs of snow. ❄ By the time I broke camp, the roads had started to ice up a bit with the fallen snow. South of Wells the snow was about an inch deep on NY 30 but after a slow slog down to Northville, the roads were just wet. I drive super slow and carefully on the icy roads because I do so little winter driving these days 🚘 – and I know if it takes a little longer than necessary to get home safely – it’s still a shit ton better than getting in a crash. Really foggy 🌁 in Amsterdam.

It’s nice being in the wilderness and having a big fire. 🐺 The woods is my happy place where I can make as much noise as I want with my music 🎶 and guns 🔫 and have a nice fire. 🔥 Tossing a wrapper in the fire and watching it burn down to nothing and unzipping my jeans and peeing where ever I want is the best! Few things are quite as warming as a wood fire although that 18,000 BTU heater feels great at camp. Listening 👂 to the birds 🐦 this morning and the coyotes late last night. I can’t wait until I can live a life like this permanently. Not next year but eventually. Living in the city is convenient but I ducking love 😍 the wilderness and the countryside.

This afternoon will rain before 3pm, then rain and snow likely. 🌧 High of 37 degrees at 1pm. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around December 11th. Northwest wind 11 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 40 degrees. The record high of 70 was set in 2014. That said, a few weeks later I remember snow camping in the Adirondacks. 8.8 inches of snow fell back in 1898.❄

Heading out to the folks house for Sunday dinner around four. 🍲 Warm enough and will stay warm so I expect the roads won’t be bad like they were up north for a while. That said things can change but it’s not that far for a slow pace or staying overnight if necessary.

The sun will set at 4:26 pm with dusk around 4:57 pm, which is 37 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌇 At sunset, look for rain 🌧 and snow 🌨 and temperatures around 36 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 13 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 28 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 48 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a chance of rain and snow showers before 7pm, then a slight chance of snow showers between 7pm and 9pm. Mostly cloudy 🌧, with a low of 32 degrees at 5am. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around November 16th. Northwest wind 8 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. In 2018, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 39 degrees. The record low of 2 occurred back in 1938.

Tuesday morning I’m going to the Urgent Care to get my arm checked out 🙋. Five bucks more per copay then my regular doctor who is currently closed. I’m sure they’ll say it’s Lyme and they’ll put me on antibiotics and the aches and occasional severe headaches will fairly quickly go away. It’s become more noticeable since the bulls eye appeared, especially in the arm but I’m sure I’ve had Lyme Disease since I got the tick bite mid October. 🎯It’s not that bad now but I know it will get worse untreated and they’re so much better at addressing Lyme disease than even a few weeks ago. I was hesitant to go and get tested before I had the bulls eye because the test sometimes comes back false negative if you get tested too quickly and I didn’t want the doctor to thank me for the co-payment and send me on my way untreated. 😷

Also need to get a hair cut.💈 My hair has so quickly gotten shaggy. I did shave my goatee back 🐐 as that was getting kind of long and nasty. But the hair I can’t do myself. 💇

My buck fifty cellphone holder 📱I got from AliExpress broke so I couldn’t have Waze open to display my speed yesterday and I blew past a cop 👮 accidentally pm Interstate 890 🚔but fortunately I did not get pulled over. My speedometer is not accurate on Big Red with the lift kit so I always use Waze to know my speed. That said, for me to blow past a cop means doing 60 mph in a 55 zone which is probably what half the motorists are doing all the time. I should get another one. AliExpress is mad cheap but the quality is a crap shoot and it will take a month or two to arrive on the boat from China. 🚤

Definitely thinking about heading back north on Friday depending on the weather. β›Ί Maybe the same site but two nights, plus some hiking and time in the woods with my shotgun. This time I will pitch a tent and hot tent. I really should hook up the low voltage disconnect reset as in the cold and long nights it seems like occasionally the battery voltage dips but probably could be used longer without turning the truck on if I reconnected the reset button.

Propane camp lantern 🏮 isn’t working at all now. Not sure the issue although I suspect the generator tube that pressurizes the gas is fully plugged with mud and soot. During my October camping trip I was having problems with it producing a ton of black soot and burning dimly. I would like to fix it although I’m considering getting an LED lantern like my parents use and putting rechargable batteries in it it or maybe getting a lantern that can be charged by plugging into the USB ports on my truck. LED lanterns are a lot less fragile but probably not as bright as the propane and they need to recharged. Gotta think about it more. 💭

Speaking of broken shit my portable radio 📻 needs a new battery. The rechargable lithium ion BL – 5C battery it came with has failed, it barely holds a charge and it’s gotten all bloated from overcharging or another failure internally of the lithium ion cell. So bloated the battery cover won’t even fit on the radio.🔋 I’m hesitant to charge it now without watching it lest it go thermal and burn up. Years ago I was burning some camp trash and a little CR 2025 button cell got tossed in the fire and man did that go bang. 💥Moral of the story, don’t mess with lithium ion cells.

As previously noted, next Sunday is December 🎄 when the sun will be setting at 4:23 pm with dusk at 4:54 pm. On that day in 2018, we had partly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 45 and 31 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 41 degrees. We hit a record high of 67 back in 1934.

November 17, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Sunday. Two weeks to December 🎄. Christmas is coming or as the Republicans want you to believe, you can only say Happy Holidays. My view is that around Christmas say Merry Christmas and the rest of the holiday season say Happy Holidays. Nothing wrong with being a proud Christian, a Jew, Muslim or somebody who just enjoys watching wrapping papers and Styrofoam packing blocks that the Christmas toys come in go up in smoke. 💨 Stinky black smoke for that Styrofoam for sure. Greta wouldn’t approve.

Its a very cold morning Mostly sunny and cold around 22 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a north breeze at 5 mph. 🍃. Things will start to thaw out at around noontime. 🌡️ After the freezing rain tomorrow morning it’s actually going to warm up. Or so I’m told. This is why I really need a well insulated place with a wood stove. Unlike the New Scotland Armory where the Green Energy Fair was held and heated with fracked gas in a building with windows missing.

Today will be sunny 🌞, with a high of 36 degrees at 2pm. 11 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around December 14th. North wind around 6 mph becoming northeast in the afternoon. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 44 degrees. The record high of 73 was set in 1928. 2.8 inches of snow fell back in 1992.❄

Kind of another cold day 💨 but it’s November and that’s to be expected. I’m planning to run to the store and go over to the Pine Bush for a quick little Save the Pine Bush Hike at 1:30 at Willow Street trailhead then to a meeting at the library to discuss the proposed Crossgates housing complex in the Pine Bush. 🚶 Then out to the folks house for Sunday dinner.

The sun will set at 4:31 pm with dusk around 5:01 pm, which is 52 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌇 At sunset, look for partly clear skies 🌄 and temperatures around 35 degrees. There will be a northeast breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 42 minutes of daytime, an decrease of 2 minutes and 6 seconds over yesterday.

The Green Energy Fair was good yesterday, 🌲🌳🌻 although I thought the attendance was a bit lighter than I expected and many of the booths weren’t that exciting but we gave out a lot of the Save the Pine Bush coloring books. They had a lot of Teslas in the electric car club section, and a Chevy Bolt. I toured the Bolt a few years back, and I do recommend Weber Auto tear down of the Chevy Bolt videos on the YouTube to learn how neat the technology really is. 🚘

Then I went for a hike along the rail trail into the Norman’s Kill George. 🚉 It was cold as duck, I’m not ready for winter but it happens. At least the trail is free of ice, and they’ve installed more guard rail and benches. 🚶Water levels are very low on the Norman’s Kill. 💦 I thought that was unusual on how wet it’s been lately.

Tonight will have a chance of freezing rain, mainly after 5am. Increasing clouds 🌧, with a low of 28 degrees at 8pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around November 27th. North wind 5 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. In 2018, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 30 degrees. The record low of 10 occurred back in 1972.

I am continuing to research 📖 building a new theme for the blog, replacing the old code based on an unsupported theme with a lean one that loads faster. That said, getting the Masonry library and the Indefinite Scroll libraries to play along proven more difficult than originally anticipated although I probably want to keep figuring this out. There is just a lot of unused bloat in the theme my blog is based off it and I could disable many of the unused features if I wrote my own based on the stripped down theme.

Tuesday Big Red is getting his tires rotated, oil changed and state inspected. β›½ I think the weather will be fine but I’ll have to drop it off early on Tuesday morning as my new work hours earlier the before. I think the inspection will go fine and with the oil changed I’ll be good until May or June when the weather is nice again as I drive few miles in the winter – although I’m thinking about a winter camping trip to the Finger Lakes like last year during black powder season.

But before then I’m thinking about heading to the East Branch in the Adirondacks β›Ί come next weekend or maybe Black Friday, assuming that I have the day off and the weather is decent. I could see a lot of the snow melting in the Adirondacks this week although it could be icy from the freezing rain tomorrow morning. Or will it be all snow up north? God knows. But a nice big ol fire 🔥 in the wilderness will be fun. Maybe do some hiking, skiing 🎿 and hunting 🔫 not spent enough time out in the field this year.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until December 🎄 when the sun will be setting at 4:23 pm with dusk at 4:54 pm. On that day in 2018, we had partly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 45 and 31 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 41 degrees. We hit a record high of 67 back in 1934.

Good morning! Happy Regular Deer Season in Southern Zone 🦌! Hunt safely and get a good deer for those into that thing. Bitterly cold day to be in your stand but I’m sure the bright sun is good. I just know how cold the woods can be small game hunting. Two weeks to Small Business Saturday 🛍️. Sunny and 25 degrees at the Green Energy Fair at Saint Rose. 🌞 There is a north breeze at 9 mph. 🍃. Things will start to thaw out at tomorrow around 11 am. 🌡️

Today will be sunny 🌞, with a high of 32 degrees at 1pm. 16 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around December 27th. North wind 7 to 9 mph. Another really cold day and possibly record breaking cold tonight. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 40 degrees. The record high of 71 was set in 2006. 3.4 inches of snow fell back in 2002.❄

So today I plan to table for the Green Energy Fair 🎄 and then depending on how cold it and long I stay at the fair is hike along the rail trail 🚶 and then maybe run to the store. 🏬I ended up driving here because I needed to bring a table for our booth which is annoying as I hate driving in the city but I avoided all the red light 🚦 camera intersections like I always try to do. Takes planning thought to do that in the city. It would have been pretty cold walk over to hear. ❄ The hall is a bit chilly as it’s not well insulated and some of the window are missing allowing heat to pour out ♨ of the Armory. But still a lot of displays and groups at the Green Energy ⚑ Fair today.

The sun will set at 4:31 pm with dusk around 5:02 pm, which is 54 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌇 At sunset, look for clear skies 🌄 and temperatures around 30 degrees. There will be a north breeze at 7 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 44 minutes of daytime, an decrease of 2 minutes and 9 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly clear 🌃, with a low of 10 degrees at 6am. 21 degrees below normal. Maximum wind chill around 16 at 6pm; North wind 3 to 6 mph. A pretty frigid night, even colder up north. Even hot tenting 🎪 that would be cold and In 2018, we had cloudy skies. It got down to 37 degrees. The record low of 7 occurred back in 1972.

Finished up the last of the pumpkin 🎃 butter my mom made up. That was super delicious 😋 to say the least. I should try making up some myself and maybe even baking my own pumpkin pie with pie filling on sale this time of year. I just really like the taste of pumpkin.

Shower continues to shut off properly 🚿 although I still have to play with the knob. Annoying how fast the washers have started to act up in it. Well if I have to have my landlord come over to fix it so be it, that’s the job I pay him to do. Maybe I’m not gentle enough on the faucet but he probably also shouldn’t have used the cheapest possible model to fix it two years ago.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Small Business Saturday 🛍️ when the sun will be setting at 4:23 pm with dusk at 4:54 pm. On that day in 2018, we had mostly sunny, rain showers and temperatures between 45 and 18 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 42 degrees. We hit a record high of 67 back in 1933.

Restored coal mines, now Elk Habitat

November 15, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Yeah, it’s Friday! I’m glad, I’m looking forward to the weekend even if it means I’ll be at the Renewable Energy Fair most of Saturday. Two weeks to Buy Nothing Day πŸ›οΈ. Mostly sunny and 31 degrees at the Elm Ave Park & Ride – CDTA. There is a south-southwest breeze at 6 mph. πŸƒ. Feels much warmer than earlier in the week – it was actually a bit warmer than I would have liked in my apartment. I shouldn’t have left the heat at 55 before bed as it overrode quite a bit.

Last night I was playing with CSS flex and grid, trying to decide on a possible future redesign of the blog. I didn’t know much about the latest in browser development πŸ“° as it’s been a while since I’ve redesigned a website from the ground up. Stayed up much too late for sure trying to learn the ins and out. The current design works well but sometimes I’ve noticed display glitches while embedding Facebook and Twitter posts, and sometimes links don’t work properly. It’s also a bit slow at times — some of it’s my web host, but some of it’s bloated code. Plus, the parent theme I’m using to base my blog off (with heavy modifications), is no longer supported, and uses some code that isn’t PHP 7 friendly.

I went down to the library for a bit, πŸ“š mostly to download some themes, to based on my desire to put a fresh new look on the blog, but managed to save them in the /tmp directly, which was promptly discarded when I restarted my computer. Doh! πŸ’» Fortunately, I can always just re-download them.

But regardless of my new found knowledge on web programming, I certainly shouldn’t have stayed up until 11:30 AM, as I tend to wake up quite early most mornings, this morning included.πŸŒ„ I was stirring around 6:30 although I didn’t get out of bed until 7 AM. So I bet I’m going to be tired today at work. I’ll make it through today and get to bed early tomorrow. That will certainly make me feel miserable later today.

Today will be mostly sunny 🌞, with a high of 43 degrees at 1pm. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around November 27th. South wind 6 to 9 mph becoming west in the afternoon. But much better than its been. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 29 degrees. Kind of like yesterday. The record high of 74 was set in 1993. 4.8 inches of snow fell back in 1906.❄

The sun will set at 4:33 pm with dusk around 5:03 pm, which is 55 seconds earlier than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for partly clear skies πŸŒ„ and temperatures around 41 degrees. There will be a west breeze at 8 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 46 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 10 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a slight chance of snow showers between 11pm and midnight. Partly cloudy πŸŒƒ, with a low of 17 degrees at 6am. 15 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around December 27th. West wind 9 to 14 mph becoming north after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2018, we had light snow in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 26 degrees. The record low of 7 occurred back in 1972.

Tomorrow will be sunny 🌞, with a high of 29 degrees at 1pm. 19 degrees below normal. North wind 7 to 9 mph. Another cold day, but hopefully it won’t be so cold at the New Scotland Armory. I am going to end up having to drive there, as I need to bring a table, as they’re not being provided. It’s not like it’s the other side of world, but I try to avoid driving in the city. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 40 degrees. The record high of 71 was set in 2006. 3.4 inches of snow fell back in 2002.❄

Looking ahead to Sunday, sunny, with a high near 36. β˜€ Northeast wind 3 to 5 mph. Typical average high for the weekend is 48 degrees. Cold yes but it’s still improvement. The long range doesn’t show as much of a warm up as before but that’s good – maybe less potholes this year. That said, despite the cold I’m not sure that the ground froze up that bad, so maybe it won’t be so bad early in the season. I’m hoping for warmer weather for camping though.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Buy Nothing Day πŸ›οΈ when the sun will be setting at 4:23 pm with dusk at 4:55 pm. On that day in 2018, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 56 and 28 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 42 degrees. We hit a record high of 66 back in 2005.

Gone

November 12, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Tuesday. Four weeks to 7:15 AM Sunrise βŒ›οΈ. Snow showers and 30 degrees in Delmar, NY. ❄ There is a west-northwest breeze at 5 mph. πŸƒ with gusts up to 21 mph, especially in the city. πŸ’¨πŸ’¨πŸ’¨. There is a dusting of snow on the ground. β˜ƒ We have a cold period ahead with temperatures dropping throughout the day. Things will start to thaw out at Thursday around 10 am. 🌑️

I thought about taking the local in 🚍 but with my new job, the express is more convenient and it’s a much easier commute. But if the bus is late the express doesn’t offer any alternatives besides turning around and walking 🚢 another mile to the local. But the express was close to on time ⌚ although a minute late stuck behind a sander truck 🚚. Sidewalks locally weren’t icy, maybe the driveway had a skim of icy but neither was slick. I hate walking to work on icy sidewalks. Ramp to the plaza is a bit icy but I’m not driving. Maybe things will freeze up later on, I’ll have to be careful when I go out for my lunch time walk.

Today will have snow showers ❄, mainly before noon. Cloudy through mid morning, then gradual clearing 🌨, with a high of 31 degrees at 8am. Temperatures will be dropping into the upper twenties as the day progresses. 18 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical early January day. Northwest wind 11 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 32 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than one inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 47 degrees. The record high of 68 was set in 1909. 7.3 inches of snow fell back in 1968.❄

So winter is back and it’s cold ❄. But what do I know in my windowless office when I get there. Going to warm up on Friday and that should melt the snow off my truck by Sunday. With the cold, the solar will be good at make sure the batteries remain topped off and ready to go. I should call DeNooyer today about getting the state inspection done. πŸš— I am still debating about getting the oil changed and tires rotated. I probably should do it to even out the wear out on the tires, and while it’s a bit premature to do the oil change, if it’s done, I won’t have to do it again until May or June, based on the miles I drive int he winter.

The sun will set at 4:36 pm with dusk around 5:06 pm, which is one minute and one second earlier than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for mostly clear skies πŸŒ„ and temperatures around 28 degrees. The wind chill around sunset will be 15. β˜ƒοΈ Breezy, 17 mph breeze β›… from the west-northwest with gusts up to 32mph. Today will have 9 hours and 53 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 16 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have isolated snow showers between 9pm and midnight. Mostly clear πŸŒƒ, with a low of 12 degrees at 6am. 20 degrees below normal. Maximum wind chill around 3 at 2am; Northwest wind 11 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2018, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became light rain by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 32 degrees. The record low of 13 occurred back in 1981.

Cool this weekend with temperatures running 13 degrees below normal but otherwise sunny. πŸ˜€ Saturday, sunny, with a high near 32. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 39. Typical average high for the weekend is 48 degrees. I don’t think it’s going to be that nice of a weekend, but I’m hopeful it won’t be too cold and sun will help a lot. Much depends on how windy it is. At least I should be able to do some walks around town. Staying home — except for taking the bus to the Green Energy Fair 🌲 should save money, which is good, because things are kind of tight. The sun should help limit the heating bills a bit. And maybe nicer weather for next week?

Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until 7:15 AM Sunrise βŒ›οΈ when the sun will be setting at 4:21 pm with dusk at 4:53 pm. Pretty close to the shortest days of the year. That’s actually the latest sunset, although we continue to loose light in the morning through early January. On that day in 2018, we had partly sunny, mist and temperatures between 36 and 18 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 38 degrees. We hit a record high of 64 back in 1966.
