A nice morning after a cool and windy weekend at Rennselearville State Forest πŸŒ€

It was nice to get away for two nights, only a quick trip from home. Not a lot of gas or costs which is good plus some great views, chances to ride and walk in the woods.

Good morning! Mostly sunny β˜€ and 52 degrees at the Rensselaerville State Forest. There is a west-northwest breeze at 8 mph. πŸƒ. The dew point is 49 degrees.

Nice morning today πŸŒ… but a bit chilly. But it’s the second half of September and I’m in the high country of Albany County so it’s to be expected. Didn’t run out of propane which became a concern yesterday when I noticed the tank was getting light and it’s been about ten nights in the woods since filling the tank on vacation, though many did not involve using the heater much.

Today will have increasing clouds β˜€ ➑ ☁, with a high of 65 degrees at 4pm. Nine degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around October 7th. Maximum dew point of 51 at 10am. West wind around 8 mph. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 72 degrees. The record high of 89 was set in 1942.

Taking camp β›Ί down relatively early πŸ•’ as I’m thinking about exploring Huyck Preserve 🐸 for a while before going to the folks house 🏑 early to pick apples 🍏 and Sunday dinner. πŸ πŸ— Going to be rain β˜” by evening and I don’t want to get home that late with the earlier sunsets.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:52 pm with sun having an altitude of 49.8Β° from the due south horizon (-21.1Β° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 5.1 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. Autumn is rapidly approaching. The golden hour πŸ… starts at 6:28 pm with the sun in the west (268Β°). πŸ“Έ The sunset is in the west (274Β°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:05 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 54 seconds with dusk around 7:31 pm, which is one minute and 47 seconds earlier than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent πŸŒ’ Moon in the west-southwest (249Β°) at an altitude of 6Β° from the horizon, 244,955 miles away. πŸš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:07 pm. At sunset, look for rain 🌧 and temperatures around 60 degrees. The dew point will be 51 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 12 hours and 27 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 51 seconds over yesterday.

Yesterday was a somewhat slow day and by midday I was a bit cold πŸ₯Ά so I retreated to my truck cap, took a nap and watched YouTube. πŸ“Ή Then the sun came out and warmed up a bit, wind which was roaring slowed and went for a ride to the Hillicross Parcel 🏞 then around some of the dirt roads and haul roads 🚲 at the State Forest. Then came back, fried up some potatoes, spinach, snap peas and salmon 🐠 then went for a hike through the woods to the hill overlooking Camp Cass. Came back had a nice fire πŸ”₯ until around ten. Very starry ✨ night, saw two shooting stars before retiring to bed around ten. With the breeze I kept the fire small as it was a rather sparky evening. Not worried about a grass fire but didn’t like all the sparks heading towards my truck for obvious reasons.

Tonight will have showers, mainly after 10pm. 🌧 Low of 53 degrees at 1am. One degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 19th. Maximum dew point of 53 at 1am. πŸ–οΈ Light and variable wind becoming east around 6 mph in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. In 2022, we had partly cloudy skies. It became humid as the night progressed. It got down to 62 degrees. The record low of 35 occurred back in 1986.

I was hoping to get up to the Adirondacks next weekend for a long one, β›Ί but we’ll see with the weather. I doubt there is much color change yet πŸ‚ and as of now the long range for next weekend isn’t all that great. But September weekends are rapidly expiring and October is quickly coming. As of now I’m thinking of possibly taking a week the third week of October but things could change.

Looking ahead, there are 2 weeks until October πŸŽƒ when the sun will be setting at 6:40 pm with dusk at 7:07 pm. Happens so quickly. On that day in 2022, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 69 and 46 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 68 degrees. We hit a record high of 90 back in 1927.

A Fall Reflection Seen from Wakely Dam

Blustery, gray morning as Lee roars off the coast πŸŒ€

It’s not a real great weekend for camping but as they say, it beats being home. And it’s only a half hour drive home, fifteenth out to the folks house on Sunday. Gives me a chance for some hammock time and riding the dirt trails around. Probably they’re muddy though after such a wet late summer.

Good morning! Happy Saturday. Finally the weekend! Mostly cloudy and 53 degrees at the Rensselaerville State Forest. ☁ There is a northwest breeze at 15 mph. πŸƒ. The dew point is 44 degrees. The skies will clear around 4 pm.

Cool and rather blustery morning 🌬️ for camping up at State Forest. Got up around 6:30, made a breakfast of eggs 🍳 with spinach, onions, mushrooms and a whole wheat crust. Just flour and water, would have added salt but I didn’t bring that and I’ve been overdoing the salt lately after backing away from it. Trying to find balance. βš–

Today will become partly sunny 🌞, with a high of 65 degrees at 4pm. Timing all depends on how fast the hurricane pushes off the shore. πŸŒ€ 10 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around October 7th. Maximum dew point of 47 at 2pm. Northwest wind 15 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 71 degrees. The record high of 92 was set in 1939.

Left work around 4 pm taking the express bus 🚍 home, filling the cooler and getting out to Rennselearville State Forest around 5:45. I probably could have left at five but it was nice to be set up well before dark. Leaving at five would have been pushing it with daylight to gather firewood and set up camp. β›Ί Turned out to be a very starry night ✨ but a bit cool so I spent it huddled over the fire. I wanted to get away but not so far out of town as possibly next weekend I’ll head up north.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:53 pm with sun having an altitude of 50.2Β° from the due south horizon (-20.7Β° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 5 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour πŸ… starts at 6:30 pm with the sun in the west (268Β°). πŸ“Έ The sunset is in the west (275Β°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:07 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 54 seconds with dusk around 7:33 pm, which is one minute and 47 seconds earlier than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent πŸŒ’ Moon in the west (261Β°) at an altitude of 3Β° from the horizon, 247,447 miles away. πŸš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:09 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies πŸŒ„ and temperatures around 60 degrees. The dew point will be 46 degrees. Breezy, 16 mph breeze β›… from the northwest. Today will have 12 hours and 30 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 51 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly clear πŸŒƒ, with a low of 45 degrees at 6am. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 4th. Northwest wind 10 to 16 mph. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 51 degrees. The record low of 32 occurred back in 1959.

Looking ahead, there are 7 weeks until Daylight Savings Time Ends πŸŒ₯ when the sun will be setting at 5:48 pm with dusk at 6:16 pm. Seems much too soon 😒. On that day in 2022, we had sunny, warm and temperatures between 71 and 46 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 54 degrees. We hit a record high of 76 back in 1994. I’m thinking after the time change I can still ride to work some days and then put my bike 🚲 on the bus 🚍 for the ride home.

Seagulls

Cold start to the morning ❄

Kind of a cool start to the morning and probably even cooler come the weekend with the clouds and the breeze from the hurricane off the coast.

Good morning! Yeah, it’s Friday! Partly clear and a chilly 49 degrees in Delmar for the morning walk. πŸŒ… There is a north-northwest breeze at 6 mph. πŸƒ.

Out for the morning walk 🚢 getting things ready to head out of town for the weekend but first work in the office. Going to ride Blackie 🚡 to work today and then leave work at 4 PM, catch the express home an then head up to camp. πŸ• Just a quick weekend camp, planning to be out to the folks house on Sunday back 2 PM to do apple picking with dad. Seems like a lot of work to go away for two nights, and really just a full day, but I’m keeping it simple. 🍏 🍎

Today will be sunny 🌞, with a high of 70 degrees at 2pm. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 26th. Maximum dew point of 51 at 1pm. North wind 6 to 11 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 70 degrees. The record high of 92 was set in 1915.

Went to Walmart and bought some more jeans πŸ‘– and supplies. Couldn’t believe the bill was $161 but I got two pairs of jeans and needed a lot more supplies for camping and cleaning around home then I had realized. Things are just more expensive these days with inflation. I spent some time studying food processors, and other kitchen equipment there. I’m leaning towards getting a Ninja 850 watt, 9 cup food processor for $100 but I want to study the reviews and think about it before laying down my money next week. That said, once I have a lot of apples from apple picking this weekend, I am going to want ways to quickly chop a bunch of them up πŸ”ͺ and make apple sauce and the alike.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:52 pm with sun having an altitude of 50.5° from the due south horizon (-20.3° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 4.9 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour πŸ… starts at 6:30 pm with the sun in the west (269°). πŸ“Έ The sunset is in the west (275°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:08 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 55 seconds with dusk around 7:34 pm, which is one minute and 47 seconds earlier than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:09 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies πŸŒƒ and temperatures around 64 degrees. The dew point will be 48 degrees. There will be a north breeze at 10 mph. Today will have 12 hours and 33 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 51 seconds over yesterday.

Tomorrow will be mostly cloudy πŸŒ₯, with a high of 73 degrees at 3pm. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 19th. Maximum dew point of 50 at 12pm. Northwest wind 13 to 15 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 71 degrees. The record high of 92 was set in 1939.

Going to be a cool and cloudy start to the weekend, but I figured it’s good get away β›Ί for a few days. Next weekend might be better, might head to the Adirondacks for that. Just some nice meals over the campfire, πŸ”₯ and doing some trail and road riding with Blackie. 🚡‍♀️ It’s the first weekend of autumn next weekend, though I’m not expecting much color at this point because it’s been such a mild late summer, bar this past day through the weekend. 😎 But come Sunday and especially next week after the hurricane πŸŒ€ moves further off shore it looks like it could warm up quite a bit again.

Looking ahead to Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 77. β˜€ West wind around 7 mph. Maximum dew point of 56 at 5pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 75 degrees. Will be nice weather for apple picking 🍏 though got to watch out for clouds and rain showers come the evening.

Looking ahead, next Friday is Autumn πŸ‚ when the sun will be setting at 6:54 pm with dusk at 7:21 pm. On that day in 2022, we had rain and temperatures between 71 and 51 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 72 degrees. We hit a record high of 95 back in 1895.

Darker

A Rainy Hump Day β˜”

It looks like it’s going to be a wet one for at least a few more hours and then some clearing. I’m not moving fast, I stayed up too late after doing some cleaning in the kitchen putting away clothes and fine tuning the indexing on my bike after really greasing up the gears, leading to some good smooth shifting again.

Good morning! What day is it? A wet one, of course. Rain and 64 degrees at the Elm Ave Park and Ride. β˜” Calm wind. The dew point is 64 degrees. The skies will clear around 8 pm.

I’m really not in the groove this morning, moving slowly but surely though the eggs and spinach 🍳 are helping a bit. I didn’t catch the earlier express bus 🚍 downtown, so I can do some extra steps in the Plaza but maybe not as many as I should before work but I’ll get off my butt and certainly do the stairs up to the 18th floor.

Totally ignored the doctors advice β˜• and had the extra cup of coffee this morning. πŸ§‘β€βš•οΈAnd hot peppers with the eggs so I’ll probably have to piss extra but whatever I’ll be in the office and I’m not taking my bike to work. 🚳I thought about putting the bike on the bus but I figured between the rain and riding on the front of the bus down the expressway in the rain my grease job would be for naught by the afternoon commute. Traffic will be heavy at rush hour and I won’t be able to get exercise while riding the bus 🚍 home but I can walk 🚢 after getting home. Forgot to get the salmon out of the freezer before work 🐠 so I’ll have to plan something else. Maybe finish off the sweet corn 🌽 and I guess I can defrost some chicken in the microwave if I’m really looking for something warm for dinner. Or maybe just heat up some of soup or rice-lentils I have in the fridge. πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

Today will have showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 2pm. 🌦 High of 73 degrees at 3pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 19th. Maximum dew point of 65 at 12pm. πŸ–οΈ Calm wind. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. A year ago, we had light rain. It was humid. The high last year was 79 degrees. The record high of 92 was set in 1948.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:52 pm with sun having an altitude of 51.3Β° from the due south horizon (-19.6Β° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 4.8 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour πŸ… starts at 6:34 pm with the sun in the west (270Β°). πŸ“Έ The sunset is in the west (276Β°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:11 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 55 seconds with dusk around 7:37 pm, which is one minute and 46 seconds earlier than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:13 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies πŸŒƒ and temperatures around 67 degrees. The dew point will be 62 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 12 hours and 39 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 50 seconds over yesterday.

I was thinking πŸ’ today would be the day to go to Walmart πŸ›’ and get all the things on my list πŸ“ƒ that Hannaford didn’t have at a good price, but I might wait until tomorrow as I want to go for an evening walk and then I can get fresh spinach, berries or anything else I might want. I think it will be warm enough tomorrow to wear shorts to work but I want to try on 34×32 pants πŸ‘– for l size before I order a few more pair online. I’m going to one of these days put most of my XXL clothes into the attic, as they really don’t fit well anymore and they really look like when I wear them I’m starving and just got out of a concentration camp. Plus between the too large and good fitting clothes, I really have too many to put in my dresser.

Tonight will be partly cloudy πŸŒƒ , with a low of 53 degrees at 5am. Typical for tonight. Maximum dew point of 62 at 6pm. Calm wind. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 57 degrees. The record low of 32 occurred back in 1963.

Weekend still looks cool and sunny, though some models show more clouds then sun on Saturday. 😎 Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 72. Maximum dew point of 53 at 4pm. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 76. Maximum dew point of 56 at 12pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 75 degrees.

Looking ahead but not necessarily forward, there are 2 weeks until More Night then Day 🌌 when the sun will be setting at 6:46 pm with dusk at 7:12 pm. I guess it means more time by the campfire in the evening. πŸ”₯ On that day in 2022, we had partly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 68 and 50 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 70 degrees. We hit a record high of 89 back in 2017.

Indian Ladder Farms

Not sure what to do today πŸ’

Going to be a great day but I’m feeling lazy. I could go for a bike ride down through Perkins Clearing or I could go for a paddle on Indian Lake. Maybe both. But the hammock and a good book is nice too. Or sit and stream a video from the hammock. I don’t know!

Good morning! Happy Sunday. Mostly sunny β˜€ and 69 degrees at the Perkins Clearing. There is a west breeze at 5 mph. πŸƒ. The dew point is 59 degrees.

So many options but first the morning to enjoy. πŸŒ… Oatmeal banana 🍌 pancakes πŸ₯ž milled perfectly πŸ‘Œ in the food processor. It worked fine with the inverter. Lazy start to the day in the hammock while I chew over my plans for the day. Going to be a hot one especially at this campsite that’s fairly high elevation. I’m leaning towards kayaking πŸ›Ά later on this afternoon but I’m not set in stone. Floating in the Jessup River would be fun too. Or Indian Lake. I’m just worried the lake will be choppy with that breeze.

Today will be sunny 🌞, with a high of 80 degrees at 4pm. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical day around August 31st. Maximum dew point of 61 at 2pm. West wind 5 to 8 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 83 degrees. The record high of 100 was set in 1953.

Soaked red lentils πŸ₯ž will try again with more water πŸ’¦ to make wraps rather than pancakes with the lentils. I’ve had trouble getting them thin enough after they cook but they are so delicious and rich in stomach filling protein. πŸ˜‹ There not the kind of thing you’d want with a sweet meal but with salt in the batter they are remarkably tasty. Then chicken πŸ” with zucchini and lemon spice, garlic and onions should be so delicious. Since eating healthier my camp meals 🍴 taste so much better. Food really is the key to a good life. Been reading a lot of cookbooks and things on food science and I’m learning an awful lot of interesting things. Plus this time of year the farm markets are packed with good eats. πŸ† Tonight I plan to roast egg plant over the fire πŸ”₯.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:58 pm with sun having an altitude of 54.1Β° from the due south horizon (-15.8Β° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 4.3 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour πŸ… starts at 6:54 pm with the sun in the west (275Β°). πŸ“Έ The sunset is in the west-northwest (281Β°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:32 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 59 seconds with dusk around 7:59 pm, which is one minute and 45 seconds earlier than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:36 pm. At sunset, look for mostly clear skies πŸŒ„ and temperatures around 74 degrees. The dew point will be 61 degrees. There will be a west breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 13 hours and 9 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 52 seconds over yesterday.

Last night watched the fire tower lighting in Spectulator and explored the US 66 village that was lit up after dark. πŸ—Ό Tried to spot Snowy Mountain off NY 30 Tonight lit up – may have hard to tell with headlights and my eyes mostly on the road watching for deer. But Makotis lighting in Spectulator was fun, big crowd there. Jessup River Road has been recently patched, it’s not to bad either on the bicycle 🚲 or driving it even after dark.

Tonight will be partly cloudy 🌀, with a low of 58 degrees at 4am. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 2nd. Maximum dew point of 61 at 6pm. West wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It became sticky as the night progressed. It got down to 61 degrees. The record low of 37 occurred back in 1946.

Stayed up to midnight last night πŸŒ• under the moonlight which was not quite full but still very bright. By midnight things were covered with moonlight. 🎢 Some music and podcasts it was a nice relaxing evening πŸŒƒ.

As previously noted, next Sunday is 6:30 Sunrise πŸŒ‡ when the sun will be setting at 7:19 pm with dusk at 7:46 pm. Days are getting short quickly. Not really any time left for an evening bike ride but I can still walk 🚢 then g et to bed early. On that day in 2022, we had mostly sunny, patches of fog and temperatures between 83 and 56 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 77 degrees. We hit a record high of 96 back in 1931.

Marshy End of Indian Lake

I find it hard to believe when the radio says, Good Morning it’s Saturday, September 2nd πŸ“»

It was a beautiful sunrise but I didn’t capture any photos though I’ll have a chance in future mornings I expect based on the forecast. Another cool, basically perfect autumn day ahead.

Good morning! Happy Saturday on this Labor Day πŸ§‘β€πŸ weekend! Partly sunny and 48 degrees at the Perkins Clearing. There is a southwest breeze at 5 mph. πŸƒ.

I still can’t believe it’s Labor Day Weekend πŸŒ… but it’s amazing weather all weekend. Need to maximize it but first eggs for breakfast 🍳 then a ride down to Hatch Brook Falls 🚲 and then lunch. In the afternoon into the evening I’m thinking πŸ’ of going up to Spectulator to see the fire tower lighting, maybe some kayaking πŸ›Ά and then watch the sun set over Lake Pleasant. πŸ“– Plus some time to do some reading.

Today will be mostly sunny 🌞, with a high of 73 degrees at 3pm. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 19th. Maximum dew point of 55 at 5pm. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 80 degrees. The record high of 100 was set in 1953.

Had a nice fire πŸ”₯ last night but didn’t stay up super late. ✨ It was a starry night until the full πŸŒ• moon filled the sky with moon light. The nights are so much longer now come September, nine o’clock seems so much later. Where did summer go so quickly I keep asking myself?

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:58 pm with sun having an altitude of 54.4Β° from the due south horizon (-15.5Β° vs. 6/21). The golden hour πŸ… starts at 6:56 pm with the sun in the west (275Β°). πŸ“Έ The sunset is in the west-northwest (282Β°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:34 pm after setting for 3 minutes with dusk around 8:01 pm, which is one minute and 46 seconds earlier than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:38 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies πŸŒƒ and temperatures around 67 degrees. The dew point will be 56 degrees. There will be a west-southwest breeze at 9 mph. Today will have 13 hours and 12 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 53 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a slight chance of showers before 10pm. Partly cloudy πŸŒƒ, with a low of 56 degrees at 6am. One degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 6th. Maximum dew point of 57 at 9pm. Southwest wind 6 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 56 degrees. The record low of 39 occurred back in 1976.

Gray Evening at the Marsh

It was the best summer of my life ☺

That was the thought on my mind as I drove north to the Adirondacks to the usual campsite that I get here early on the Friday before Labor Day Weekend on Hardwood Hill to camp at. Being forty I’m much happier than ever before, some of its my diet, my professional success but I also just feel so much more confident in who I am even as I watch the world go further to shit. Absolutely beautiful day for sure.

Happy Labor Day Weekend! β›Ί Mostly clear and 70 degrees at the Perkins Clearing. There is a southwest breeze at 5 mph. πŸƒ. The dew point is 51 degrees.

Got up to camp β›Ί on Hardwood Hill, technically the hill next to it a little after ten and got the campsite I’ve been camping at each Labor Day Weekend πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ since I think 2017 when I stopped here to overnight on my way to Moose River Plains and ended up deciding I really liked it and it was even more perfect πŸ‘Œ once remote work became a thing. No remote work this time but I did enjoy a nice nap in the sun β˜€ after setting up camp and having rice and squash for a late lunch. 😴 Then in the evening I rode down to Perkins Clearing and Jessup River, almost down to Sled Harbor – actually past the Miami River and also past campsite 9 to the swamp in the other direction. 🚲 Hardwood Hill is tough to bike up, I ended up just walking my bicycle up part of it.

Tonight will be mostly clear and moonlit πŸŒƒ, with a low of 45 degrees at 4am. 13 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 4th. Southwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. Always cool in the Adirondacks. Good night for sitting by the fire with the hoodie on. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 48 degrees. The record low of 38 occurred back in 2017. It is September after all.

As I slept for a while this afternoon 😴 going to try to stay up late, though in my experience that’s easier said than done but the moonlight will help along with a good podcast. Thinking tomorrow of staying up late to see the lit up fire towers πŸ—Ό, maybe after watching the sunset πŸŒ‡ at Lake Pleasant and the celebration there, get ice cream 🍦then drive past Mason Lake to see Snowy Mountain lit up. Just an idea πŸ’‘ for tomorrow. Not set in stone.

Tonight will have a Waining Gibbous πŸŒ– Moon with 95% illuminated. The moon will rise at 8:39 pm. The Harvest 🌽 Moon is on Saturday, September 16. The darkest hour is at 12:59 am, followed by dawn at 5:52 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:22 am in the east-northeast (78Β°) and last for 3 minutes Sunrise is one minute and 7 seconds later than yesterday. πŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 7:00 am with sun in the east (84Β°). Tonight will have 10 hours and 45 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 52 seconds over last night.

It always seems the early sunset πŸŒ‡ happens so quickly. I was out riding this evening 🚡 and knew I had to turn back a little after 7:30 pm knowing that it would get dark early. Always happens this way come September.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny 🌞, with a high of 73 degrees at 3pm. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 19th. Maximum dew point of 54 at 10am. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 80 degrees. The record high of 100 was set in 1953.

Cooler than I expected πŸ‚ but then it’s September and I’m in the Adirondacks. I had thought about paddling Indian Lake or Lewey Lake and doing a night hike up Watch Hill to see Snowy Mountain lit up but that would be a very late night by the time I was back to camp. Those lakes might be choppy with the wind too. Maybe an evening in Spectulator would be better after an afternoon paddling the Sacandaga River down to the Kunjamunk πŸ›Ά then a bike ride along NY 8 over to Lake Pleasant.
