It's the second half of November as the label job I ran today reminds me. 🏷️ The landscape is cold and barren, it's dark out for a good portion of day, and riding home in the dark isn't much fun. But you make the best of it, and I figure the extra sleep and time to learn isn't a bad thing. πŸ›Œ Next adventure after Thanksgiving! πŸ¦ƒ Hopefully the fire risk is down by then as I want to have a big bonfire in wilderness πŸ”₯ after a good day riding trail or hiking. 🚢

Heath Barrens of Dolly Sods

The heath barrens of Dolly Sods. Once an old-growth forest, after it was logged at the turn of century, it became ravaged by decades of fires and became over time permanently huckleberry plains or heath barrens.

The cold and wind, along with loss of organic matter made it impossible for full forests to regrow, giving it the characteristic landscape of Northern Canada or Alaska tundra.

Davis Is Ahead

The view from the Appalachian Highway, US 219 outside of Davis, West Viriginia. Davis can be seen in the distance, as can you see the Tucker County Landfill which imports trash from all over.
