Good evening! Overcast and 75 degrees at Horseshoe Lake. ⛅ There is a south-southwest breeze at 7 mph. 🍃. The dew point is 64 degrees.

This is primary night in the era of social distancing. ❎ While certainly not my only election night bonfire, well more like a small campfire, 🔥 it was interesting watching the results come in eventhough things will change when the absentees come in – 1.7 million state wide due to the pandemic. But less than you might think as absentee ballots are similar in patterns then in person voting. I’ve been doing this long enough to know all the websites to check.

Tonight will have showers and thunderstorms likely before 2am, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between 2am and 5am, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 5am. Mostly cloudy ☔, with a low of 64 degrees at 5am. Five degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 64 at 8pm. South wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 56 degrees. The record low of 44 occurred back in 1932.

Tomorrow will have a 30 percent chance of showers, mainly before 9am. Cloudy through mid morning, then gradual clearing 🌦, with a high of 73 degrees at 3pm. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 30th. Maximum dew point of 62 at 6am. Southwest wind 9 to 14 mph. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 85 degrees. The record high of 96 was set in 1943.

I am going to stay up at Horseshoe Lake for one more night after tonight 🌃 and then take down camp early Thursday morning and work down at Long Lake on Thursday, so a short hike after work and head home, getting home 🏡 around 9 pm. I could go to another campsite but I think Saturday is going to be quite rainy ☔.

Looking ahead, there are 19 weeks until Election Day 2020 🗳️ when the sun will be setting at 4:44 pm with dusk at 5:14 pm (Standard Time). On that day in 2019, we had partly sunny, rain showers and temperatures between 53 and 30 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 53 degrees. We hit a record high of 75 back in 1990.

 One More Sunset

June 22, 2020 Night

Good evening! Hot and humid night and 77 degrees at the Horseshoe Lake. Light breeze The dew point is 64 degrees.

Kind of muggy when the breeze dies down 🍃 but truth be told when the wind picks up its quite pleasant. It wasn’t as long of a day as expected but fairly busy. Laptop worked well, kept it charged 🔋 but I had to move the truck a few times to keep it in the sun for solar power. That said this campsite was quite nice and cool and shady. Plus close to the lake for water or cooling down. Had a few rumbles of thunder ⚡ to the east but nothing nearby.

Tonight will have isolatdd showers and thunderstorms before 11pm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Patchy dense fog after 2am. Otherwise, partly cloudy 🌧, with a low of 63 degrees at 5am. Four degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 64 at 9pm. South wind 3 to 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 55 degrees. The record low of 44 occurred back in 1940.

Tonight will have a Waxing Crescent 🌒 Moon with 3% illuminated. At 9 PM, the moon was in the west-northwest (292°) at an altitude of 12° from the horizon, some 236,566 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. 🚀 At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by December 19th. Buckle up for safety! 💺 The moon will set in the borthwest (304°) at 10:16 pm. The Buck 🦌 Moon is on Saturday, July 4. The darkest hour is at 1:01 am, followed by dawn at 4:39 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:15 am in the northeast (55°) and last for 3 minutes and 36 seconds. Sunrise is 15 seconds later than yesterday. 🌄 The golden hour ends at 6:00 am with sun in the east-northeast (63°). Tonight will have 8 hours and 29 minutes of darkness, an increase of 8 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 1pm. Some of the storms could produce small hail, gusty winds, and heavy rain. Mostly sunny 🌧, with a high of 86 degrees at 3pm. Six degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 66 at 8am. South wind 6 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 84 degrees. The record high of 96 was set in 1888.

Tomorrow is Primary Day ❎ and it should be a nice day but busy. Wednesday I might work from Long Lake – they have a lot of internet access hotspots around the village. 📶

In four weeks on July 20 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (300°) at 8:34 pm,🌄 which is 10 minutes and 33 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had hot, humid, partly sunny, thunderstorm and temperatures between 95 and 72 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 83 and 62 degrees. The record high of 97 degrees was set back in 1991.

June 22, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Average High is 80 🏖! Sunny and 73 degrees at the Horseshoe Lake. 🌞 There is a south-southwest breeze at 5 mph. 🍃. The dew point is 63 degrees. A very pleasant morning up but muggy here like everywhere else.

It’s a Monday and it’s back to work remotely 💻, using the laptop and my phone 📱. The nice thing about the internet is nobody knows if you are a dog 🐶 or are hiding out in St. Lawrence County unless of course you post about it.

Been years since I’ve been in the North Country, 🌲🌲🌲 I forgot how wild and beautiful the land is north of Blue Mountain Lake 😍 and how many deer, turkey and other wildlife you see on the road at six o’clock on a Monday. With the fog lifting 🌁 it was an incredible beautiful morning. I should get up early more now that the sun is rising so early. It won’t be that long until sunrise 🌅 is closer to 7:30 am rather then 5:30 am.

Why did I decide to wake up so early and head north? 🌲🌲🌲Partially because I could but also I had some concerns about staying at that campsite 14 another night at Jessup River Road. I’m tired of it and that area, I’ve been there too much lately. Plus while that site has oodles of solar power it would have been ungodly hot under the sun ☀. And I was itching for something different. I knew I would have pretty good cell phone reception 📶 on Horseshoe Lake so I could easily work here and most of the campsites are close to the lake. I’m hoping to do a little paddling after work 🚣 and maybe some fishing 🎣 but it depends on the weather and how late I have to work. 📝

Today will have a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 2pm. Mostly sunny 🌞, with a high of 88 degrees at 4pm. Eight degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 63 at 8am. Southwest wind around 6 mph. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 80 degrees. The record high of 95 was set in 1954.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 1:01 pm with sun having an altitude of 69.2° from the due south horizon (0° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.3 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour 🏅 starts at 8:02 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (297°). 📸 The sunset is in the borthwest (305°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:46 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 36 seconds with dusk around 9:22 pm, which is 10 seconds later than yesterday. 🌇 At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent 🌒 Moon in the west-northwest (296°) at an altitude of 8° from the horizon, 236,519 miles away. 🚀 The best time to look at the stars is after 10:11 pm. At sunset, look out for thunderstorms 🌩 and temperatures around 75 degrees. The dew point will be 63 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 15 hours and 31 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 5 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 7pm. Patchy dense fog after 1am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy , with a low of 65 degrees at 5am. Six degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 65 at 9pm. South wind 3 to 5 mph. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 55 degrees. The record low of 44 occurred back in 1940.

Cooler with showers for the weekend. 💦 Saturday, a 40 percent chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 75. West wind 6 to 11 mph. Maximum dew point of 57 at 8pm. Sunday, a 50 percent chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 81. Southeast wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the morning. Maximum dew point of 60 at 8am. Typical average high for the weekend is 81 degrees.

I could keep going north and seeing more of the Adirondacks or I could head home 🏡 before or after work. 📝 You know I don’t know. I’m watching the weather to see when the heat wave down in Albany will break before making any decisions.

June 17, 2020 Night

Good evening! Clear and 75 degrees in Delmar, NY. Calm wind. The dew point is 54 degrees. The evening is mild but not too humid yet.

I decided I didn’t have enough packed early enough to get up at 5:30 am tomorrow and head up to Speculator and work up there tomorrow. 💻 So I’ll work at home or maybe the library for a while then head up north after work. I’m hoping that I won’t be asked to work late tomorrow. ⛺ The nights are long so even if I worked and left at seven it wouldn’t be that much driving at dark.

I got my truck back and it drives better especially with tight parking spots. 🅿 The alignment wasn’t just wearing out the tires it was making the steering awful sloppy. 🚘 I just didn’t want one to snap on the road. I think the tires along with the new ball joints and tire rods should last at least 15,000 more miles which will probably get me through to November 2021 when I’ll probably retire Big Red – I’ll be over ten years old than and more than 100,000 miles. I’m thinking at that point going the route of getting a good bicycle, and just renting a car a few weeks a year for vacation. Red has been mostly fun but like many cars of people youth it’s better to look back at the good ol days and have rosy memories 💭 of the world that once was.

I decided I had enough money in checking that I would pay off my credit card bill 💳and with the overtime and skipping my next savings deposit I’ll be fine as the credit card bill isn’t due for a while. I will continue to do the market investments and retirement IRA as normal. I did a good evaluation of my accounts and with the markets being up lately, things looked pretty good. Markets are up. Really I could see retiring at 55, owning land and an off grid cabin by then. 🏡 That said, I should be careful not to count IRA, deferred comp or 401k money until I’m 60 and that’s growing quicker than other investments – as there is less taxes and I’m putting more there to avoid NY taxes. It’s nice to know that while I have a long ways to go I have a future, some day I’ll get out of this moldy apartment in the city. 🔮

Tonight will have patchy fog after 4am. Otherwise, mostly clear 🌃, with a low of 55 degrees at 5am. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around June 11th. Maximum dew point of 55 at 10pm. Light south wind. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became light rain by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 60 degrees. The record low of 39 occurred back in 1958.

Tonight will have a Waining Crescent 🌘 Moon with 10% illuminated. The Buck 🦌 Moon is on Thursday, July 2. Buck yeah. The darkest hour is at 12:57 am, followed by dawn at 4:43 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:18 am in the east-northeast (57°) and last for 3 minutes and 28 seconds. Sunrise is 6 seconds later than yesterday. 🌄 The golden hour ends at 6:01 am with sun in the east-northeast (64°). Tonight will have 8 hours and 41 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 13 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have patchy fog before 7am. Otherwise, sunny 🌞, with a high of 88 degrees at 3pm. Nine degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 59 at 10am. Calm wind becoming south around 6 mph in the afternoon. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 75 degrees. The record high of 97 was set in 2018.

Tomorrow morning I’ll probably skip my walk and continue to pack 💼. I want to have everything ready besides my coolers. I also won’t put the kayak on the roof until late to fully top off the battery bank. I have enough food and supplies for seven days in the Adirondacks 🗻, I am going to bring the kayak for Saturday and Sunday paddles, maybe on Lewey Lake and the Miami River. Never dun that before. 🚣 Probably stay up north through the day after Primary Day working from camp, the Speculator Beach and library. I bought a small fan that I can use for extra cooling up at camp. 💨Runs on 120 volt AC current so I can use the same power line I use for my laptop. I have the DC fan for use in the truck cap, this is more for the screen tent 🎪. Uses between 27-37 watts depending on the speed (wattage drops a bit as the fan heats up) and pushes around a fair bit of air. Power factor is 0.55 so the volt amperes is more like 63 VA at high but that’s to be expected – probably a shaded pole motor and any electric motor has impedance.

In four weeks on July 15 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (300°) at 8:31 pm,🌄 which is 4 minutes and 40 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had mostly sunny skies and temperatures between 85 and 60 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 83 and 62 degrees. The record high of 96 degrees was set back in 1997.

Looking ahead, Latest Sunset 🌆 is in 1 week and Inauguration Day 2021 👴🏻 is in 31 weeks.

June 17, 2020 Morning

Good morning! What day is it? Hump Day, of course. Next Wednesday is Latest Sunset 🌆. Sunny and 55 degrees in Delmar, NY. 🌞 Calm wind. The dew point is 51 degrees.

I’m heading out for my morning walk in a bit 🚶 and they’ll get down to work. Not sure if I’ll be working late tonight but earning money is nice. I’m guessing not but that means I won’t be able to pack for leaving for the Adirondacks before dawn tomorrow. Pine Bush virtual dinner tonight at 7 pm, Judy Enck is speaking, details at SaveThePineBush.org. I’ll try to listen on the phone if I have to work.

I sent over the BDS instructions guide for cutting the tie rod ends and getting the lift kit back together on my truck and hopefully repaired today. 🔧 I really want to get that finished and the debt retired as soon as possible. 💵 I wish the shop could have figured this out themselves but at least they’ve been good at providing updates. My hope is to get two more years out of the tires before retiring Big Red and not losing any wheels while driving the mean time.

Today will be sunny 🌞, with a high of 86 degrees at 3pm. Seven degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 55 at 9am. Not super humid, but wait for Thursday. Calm wind. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 80 degrees. The record high of 94 was set in 1994.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:57 pm with sun having an altitude of 70.8° from the due south horizon (-0° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.1 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour 🏅 starts at 7:54 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (297°). 📸 The sunset is in the west-northwest (304°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:36 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 27 seconds with dusk around 9:10 pm, which is 20 seconds later than yesterday. 🌇 The best time to look at the stars is after 9:57 pm. At sunset, look for clear skies 🌄 and temperatures around 78 degrees. The dew point will be 55 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 15 hours and 18 minutes of daytime, an increase of 14 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly clear 🌃, with a low of 56 degrees at 5am. One degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around June 14th. Maximum dew point of 56 at 9pm. Light south wind. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became light rain by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 60 degrees. The record low of 39 occurred back in 1958.

On this day in 1972, Five White House operatives are arrested for burgling the offices of the Democratic National Committee, 🏢 in an attempt by some members of the Republican party to illegally wiretap the opposition. This would become the basis for the Watergate scandal.

Hot and stormy this weekend. Saturday, a chance of thunderstorms after 2pm. Mostly sunny and hot, with a high near 90. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Maximum dew point of 65 at 8am. Sunday, a chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 88. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Maximum dew point of 66 at 6am. Typical average high for the weekend is 79 degrees.

Still hoping to get to the Adirondacks this weekend 🗻 but probably not until before work on Friday. It all depends on when I get the truck back and get to store to get supplies, wash my clothes and test things out on the road a bit. I’m thinking if it’s real hot on Thursday I might bring my work laptop 💻 down to the Hudson River and work at the park maybe with a fishing line in one hand. 🎣

As previously noted, next Wednesday is Latest Sunset 🌆 when the sun will be setting at 8:37 pm with dusk at 9:12 pm. On that day in 2019, we had partly cloudy and temperatures between 85 and 56 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 80 degrees. We hit a record high of 96 back in 1943.

Settles Hill

June 9, 2020 Night

Good evening! Partly clear and 68 degrees Mason Lake. 🌟 Calm wind. The dew point is 54 degrees.

Sitting down by the lake, listening to the frogs 🐸, a screech owl and a loon. Drinking a beer 🍻 looking up at stars ✨. One firefly in the air. 🐝 Also a bit of a noisy party with people hanging out at a campsite down the lake. ✨ Checking out the stars with the star gazing app on my phone.

After packing up and organizing my gear, I ended up working from my campsite all day. ⛺ I just moved Big Red a few feet to make sure it was parked in the sun to keep the laptop and battery bank charged. Packing things up helped get things a lot more organized – and this morning had more downtime then recent. Finally hung up the flags 🎌 and hammock and electric lights tonight. They do make camping kind of more fun.

It’s night three at this campsite so I have to take camp down in the morning. 🌅 I I’m going to work down in Speculator – probably just using my phone and if necessary the cellular internet on the work laptop and in the afternoon will work down at the Speculator library until 5 pm. Strangely enough it wasn’t until this afternoon I hung up the flags 🎌 or the hammock but I’ve been so busy this week – I was tired 😴 after hiking Sunday and Monday I had to work late and by the time I had dinner and went fishing 🎣 it was dark and I had to call it a night 🌃.

Come the close of business tomorrow 💼 it will have been a six night camping trip with five days of work and a weekend through in when I did some hiking. Left last Thursday at 6 am before work, I’ll be home before 8 pm Wednesday this week. Because five out of the seven days were work days and my office has been quite busy, I won’t say I did a lot of scenic viewing but the hike through the dirt logging trails of Perkins Clearing to the Speculator Pig Rock 🐽 and Jessup River 🐠, the hike to Fawn Lake and Wilcox Vly were nice. 🚶 As was fishing 🎣 down at Mason Lake after work and hiking the Speculator Nature Trail several times. Solar for the most part kept my work laptop 💻 well charged.

But alas I’m running low on clothes 👖 and food 🍔 so I need to head home tomorrow after work. The ice will be gone by tomorrow but I have little left to spoil. There is no reason this can’t repeat in two weeks should my office remain closed. 🏢 That said I kind of expect to be riding the bus 🚍 to work downtown next week even though nothing formal has been announced yet. Autumn though maybe the pandemic will be back and I can hunt before work. Plus a lack of sun later in the week poses a problem for keeping the meccessary electrons flowing.

Tonight will be partly cloudy 🌤, with a low of 54 degrees at 5am. One degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around June 8th. Maximum dew point of 54 at 10pm. Light east wind. In 2019, we had partly cloudy skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 53 degrees. The record low of 36 occurred back in 1975.

Tonight will have a Waining Gibbous 🌖 Moon with 79% illuminated. The darkest hour is at 12:58 am, followed by dawn at 4:42 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:17 am in the east-northeast (57°) and last for 3 minutes and 31 seconds. Sunrise is 12 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌄 The golden hour ends at 6:01 am with sun in the east-northeast (64°). Tonight will have 8 hours and 38 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 46 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly after 4pm. ⚡ Some of the storms could produce small hail, gusty winds, and heavy rain. Increasing clouds 🌧, with a high of 74 degrees at 3pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 2nd. Maximum dew point of 66 at 5pm. Southeast wind 6 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 81 degrees. The record high of 96 was set in 2008.

My goal is to take down camp quite early tomorrow and be on the road to Speculator 🚙 which is only a ten minute drive away. Then get into the meat 🍖 of the day, get client issues addressed and maybe if there is a little downtime before 11 am hop in the Speculator Beach or hike at the nature trail. I’m hoping I won’t have to work late like on Monday. Then I’m pretty sure I’ll drive home. Not thinking it’s going to be that cloudy ⛅ all day and while there may be some severe thunderstorm ⚡ in the afternoon I feel relatively safe working inside the truck. I’ll shut off the inverter and unplug the laptop if there is severe lightning.

Honesty, working up in the Adirondacks has been a lot more productive than working at home 🏡 or in the office 🏢. For one, I don’t use my work laptop for any personal business including checking the weather or news 📰 and certainly not my blog. If I was in the office on the wired or Wi-Fi internet, especially in my personal laptop I’d be checking social media multiple times a day, reading the news and probably streaming a YouTube video in the background. 📹 I also feel like while I’m working remotely, especially in the Adirondacks camping, I have to be super responsive to client texts, calls and emails especially during work hours. 📟 While I try to be serious at work, remote work from the Adirondacks I’m twice as serious about doing my job to the best of my ability. I don’t want to make it seem like I’m on vacation. 🏊

In four weeks on July 7 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (303°) at 8:40 pm,🌄 which is 3 minutes later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had humid, mostly sunny and temperatures between 81 and 64 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 82 and 61 degrees. The record high of 97 degrees was set back in 1988.

Looking ahead, Primary Day 🗳️ is in 2 weeks, Election Day 2020 🗳️ is in 21 weeks and Election Day 2020 🗳️ is in 21 weeks.
