December 20, 2018 Morning

Good morning! Happy Thursday. Two weeks to Latest Sunrise of the Winter πŸŒ„οΈ. Tomorrow is the first day of winter. Mostly sunny and 33 degrees in Delmar. Calm wind. Rather hazy though in the city. Fairly pleasant morning, but I’m more then a bit drowsy.πŸ’€

A nice morning but I had trouble getting going this morning, β˜€ as I had too many cups of coffee at the Pine Bush dinner and that effected my sleep. β˜•Β Not only did I drink coffee with dinner, I drank more when I started to choke on one of the cookies during the dinner. Kind of a busy day yesterday but after it all I did make it to the Pine Bush dinner. 🌲Taking the local to work. 🚌

The sun will set at 4:24 pm with dusk around 4:56 pm, which is 28 seconds later than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for mostly cloudy skies ☁ and temperatures around 40 degrees. There will be a south-southeast breeze at 6 mph.

Today will have increasing clouds ☁, with a high of 41 degrees at 1pm. Seven degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around December 3rd. South wind 3 to 6 mph. A year ago, we had with more clouds in the afternoon. The high last year was 40 degrees. The record high of 61 was set in 1957. 8.4 inches of snow fell back in 1975.❄

Tonight will have a Waxing Gibbous Moon πŸŒ” with 97% illuminated with the moon rising at 3:03 pm. The moon will set at 5:51 am. December’s Cold MoonΒ πŸŒ• will be tomorrow. The sun will rise at 7:21 am with the first light at 6:49 am, which is 32 seconds later than yesterday. πŸŒ„ Tonight will have 14 hours and 57 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 seconds over last night.

Tonight will rain, mainly after 9pm. The rain could be heavy at times. 🌧 Low of 39 degrees at 6pm. 20 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 18th. South wind around 6 mph becoming calm. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible. Going to be a wet and warm night into the day tomorrow. In 2017, we had light snow in the evening. It got down to 21 degrees. The record low of -18 occurred back in 1942.

I continue toΒ work on writing the code ⌨ for my niece’sΒ flashing star,Β πŸ’«Β right now I’ve come up with 16 different color patterns. It’s a little hard to think of additional ones, although I’m sure there is more ramps and flashing patterns I could come up with. I want to try put as much in as possible in the code, as it would make more interesting, but after a while coming up with new patterns is hard.

The Pine Bush dinner was interesting but I’m not sure if I agree with having speakers pushing commercial products that they’re making money off of. πŸ’°Geothermal is interesting and I guess there are many benefits to solar energy although I have my doubts about those large industrial solar facilities. I think there is a lot of questions that need to be asked about developing large tracks of farm land and forest,πŸŽ‹ covering them with panels made out of hazardous materials that will pose risks for generations to come especially if they aren’t properly hauled off to landfills at the end of their lives. ⬛ Cow manure rots, farm fields revert to the woods by themselves without government intervening. But I guess I’m a minority voice, to be grouped in with the fossil fuel proponents just for asking questions of the government bureaucrats.

I will probably go out hiking somewhere on Sunday, maybe not too far away, 🚢 then out to the folks house for Christmas Eve. It looks like virtually all of the snow except for the highest locations of the Adirondacks will be gone after the heavy rains of Friday into Saturday.Β β˜”Β With the rain on Saturday, I will finish up working on my various Christmas gifts that I’ve been working on building. I got a bunch of perf and strip board in the mail the other day, for building further products.πŸ”¬Β Always a good thing on cold winter nights, except for the drafts blowing smoke from the flux burning off into my face.

For the New Years Eve long weekend,Β I am considering going camping up in the Adirondacks or maybe Brookfield.Β πŸ•Β With the snow gone all over locally, and only a little left in the Adirondacks, it might be nice to get away. I still have camp food stored away, the high calorie stuff I don’t like to eat at home and plenty of propane for at least a few nights camping, although if I do a full three nights, I might get the tank to be filled to be safe rather then sorry. A nice fire is always good, and if we have some sunny weather, some hunting and hiking would be a lot of fun. I kind of like Brookfield because those campsites you can drive up into, as if I go there, it will be in snow-free weather. Plus good cellphone reception which can make the long nights pass quicker.

As previously noted, there areΒ 2 weeks until Latest Sunrise of the Winter πŸŒ„οΈΒ when the sun will be setting at 4:34 pm with dusk at 5:06 pm. On that day in 2018, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 22 and 7 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 31 degrees. We hit a record high of 61 back in 1913.

Rays Across the Reservoir

December 10, 2018 Morning

Good morning! Happy 7:15 AM Sunrise βŒ›οΈ! Lol, maybe back in Albany. On a cloudy day like today it was pretty dark until 7:45. Three weeks to New Years Eve 🎆. Cloudy and 24 degrees in Hector. ☁ There is a northwest breeze at 9 mph. 🍃. Definitely a winter day, not good for sitting around. Things will start to thaw out at Friday around 10 am. 🌡️

Today will be cloudy ☁, with a high of 27 degrees at 1pm. 11 degrees below normal. North wind 7 to 9 mph. Kind of a cold winter day although when you’re gathering firewood doesn’t seem so cold. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies with more clouds in the afternoon. The high last year was 36 degrees. The record high of 64 was set in 1966. A few decades ago I might say. 6.1 inches of snow fell back in 2014.❄

The sun will set at 4:34 pm with dusk around 5:05 pm, which is 4 seconds later than yesterday. 🌇 At sunset, look for cloudy skies ☁ and temperatures around 26 degrees. There will be a north breeze at 7 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 7 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 47 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy 🌥, with a low of 20 degrees at 5am. Three degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical night around December 18th. Maximum wind chill around 11 at 3am; Calm wind becoming southwest 5 to 9 mph after midnight. In 2017, we had cloudy skies. It got down to 24 degrees. The record low of -8 occurred back in 1988.

Bisquick biscuits for breakfast with cheese. A big pot of coffee. While it’s cloudy and occasional snow flurries I don’t think it’s that cold out compared to yesterday but maybe I’m just moving more. The best way to get warm is head out in the woods and chop wood. Much more fun than being home. 😎 Looking forward to seeing more sun though tomorrow. If it’s nice I might go up to Montezuma and Seneca Falls, that’s to be decided. It’s a bit of a drive and I’m not sure I want to drive after dark.

Yesterday I made stew for lunch and dinner and fixed up campsite a bit more. Had a good supply of wood, so I had a nice fire. 🔥 Stew was okay but I think I’d want to use other spices and maybe flour rather than Bisquick next time. Beef stewed up nicely although the pot was black from the stove operating at low with the stoichiometric ratio off causing a lot of soot. Usually propane is a very clean fuel but it can burn dirty if things are not working properly.

A lot of people were out hoping for a good final day of regular deer season 🔫 but I saw nobody dragging a deer out of the woods. Noisy though as people headed out loading shotgun shells in their guns, clinking the action especially when the one big group went out yesterday. Saw one black powder guy today but he was comparatively much quieter.

Thinking about going down to Trumansburg today just because it’s relatively close and I want to charge up the batteries and drive the truck at highway speed to make sure things are better lubricated and charged compared to idling. I probably top off the gas and also go for a walk at Taughannock Falls as I’m curious what it looks like in the winter. 🗻

It’s been a good trip so far. Cold and dark yes, but it’s December and that’s to be expected. But I have lights and heat and the long nights have improved my sleep, as I climb under the covers after shutting off the heat in my toasty warm tent. β›Ί I often have trouble sleeping in the late autumn, although the red lights in my room have improved that but I still wake up a lot at home st night. But at camp I seem to sleep much better. 💤

As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until New Years Eve 🎆 when the sun will be setting at 4:44 pm with dusk at 5:16 pm. On that day in 2017, we had snow, mostly cloudy skies and temperatures between 8 and -2 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 32 degrees. We hit a record high of 61 back in 1895.

Sun Through the Trees

December 9, 2018 7 AM Update

Good morning! Happy Earliest Sunset of the Year βŒ›οΈ! At least in Albany, I think further west here in Hector the days have already started to get later in the evening. Two weeks to Festivus 🍖. Everybody loves meatloaf and feats of strength. Mostly sunny and 16 degrees in Hector. There is a south-southwest breeze at 6 mph. 🍃. Seems like a bit more of a breeze right now but it might be from the sun rising. Hopefully though things will warm up when the sun starts shining down. Things will start to thaw out at Friday around 9 am. 🌡️

Today will be sunny 🌞, with a high of 32 degrees at 2pm. Six degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical day around December 27th. Southwest wind 6 to 11 mph. A year ago, we had cloudy skies. The high last year was 33 degrees. The record high of 62 was set in 1966. 7.3 inches of snow fell back in 2009.❄

The sun will set at 4:34 pm with dusk around 5:05 pm, which is one second later than yesterday. At sunset, look for clear skies 🌄 and temperatures around 31 degrees. There will be a southwest breeze at 8 mph. Tomorrow will have 9 hours and 7 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 47 seconds over today.

Tonight will be scattered flurries after 4am. Increasing clouds ☁, with a low of 21 degrees at 12am. Two degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical night around December 15th. Maximum wind chill around 19 at 6pm; Northwest wind 6 to 8 mph. In 2017, we had light snow and mist in the evening, remaining overcast into the early morning. It got down to 18 degrees. The record low of -4 occurred back in 1902.

Driving out here, it quite a snowy winter wonderland on Interstate 88 which prompted me to take it to the end then take the 13 mile jaunt north to Lisle rather than NY 206 through Greene.❄ There was a ton of salt on the road so nothing stuck but I wanted to avoid hills. Plus 206 followed by 79 to Ithaca can feel like forever with all the small towns and traffic. NY 79 didn’t disappoint with speed traps, traffic and aggressive drivers tailgating and blowing past you for the mortal sin of driving 50 mph in a 45 zone.

Lots of stars last night and it was good camping, although this time of year the nights are long. When I first got here it was a big rush to get things set up but then it wasn’t too bad once every thing was ready to go. I’ll probably make some changes to the campsite set up today but nothing too major. β›Ί

Not a half bad night although a few times it got cold and I woke up and turned on the heater. Having a full tank I figured just use it to be comfortable. It should last for the five or six nights I’m out here, it’s not that expensive. ♨Last night was pretty nice but after the wind switched it got a cooler. Plus I kinda was awoken by the sound of the deer hunters closing the doors on their pick up trucks as they headed out in the field well before dawn.

The sun is well up now and I need to go to the facilities, and make breakfast before it gets dark out again. Should be a nice day with the sun and hopefully somewhat warmer temperatures. 😎

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Festivus 🍖 when the sun will be setting at 4:38 pm with dusk at 5:10 pm. On that day in 2017, we had freezing rain and clouds with temperatures between 36 and 25 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 33 degrees. We hit a record high of 64 back in 1990.

Near the Summit

December 7, 2018 Evening

Happy Weekend! Tired but there is more to do so I’m ready to leave first this coming morning. Mostly clear and 28 degrees in Delmar. There is a west-northwest breeze at 11 mph. 🍃 with gusts up to 22 mph 💨💨💨. That wind is kind of cutting. Things will start to thaw out at Sunday around noontime. 🌡️

When I get home, I’m going to have a quick dinner then run to the laundromat and grocery store to pick up a few more items. Mostly just dish soap, I overlooked it yesterday. I’m going to see if the dollar store has a few ribbons and bows, that might make the campsite look really festive. 🎄 Tomorrow I’ll pick up some rock salt in case the campsite is ice – I don’t want to slip and fall on the ice, milk and a bag of firewood to get me started for the first night. I’ll need more that a bag but I’ll be able to cut and chop more, assuming I get there at a reasonable hour. Thinking about also getting a second lantern globe in Oneonta Walmart in case I accidentally break the one that’s on it.

Tonight will be partly cloudy 🌤, with a low of 13 degrees at 6am. 11 degrees below normal. Maximum wind chill around 11 at 7pm; Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph becoming light after midnight. In 2017, we had cloudy skies, clearing in the early hours of the next day. It got down to 20 degrees. The record low of -3 occurred back in 1902.

Tonight will have a Waxing Crescent Moon 🌒 with 1% illuminated. The moon will rise at 8:13 am. The First Quarter Moon is next Friday with partly cloudy skies. The Cold Moon 🌝 is in 2 weeks. The sun will rise at 7:12 am with the first light at 6:40 am, which is 56 seconds later than yesterday. 🌄 Tonight will have 14 hours and 51 minutes of darkness, an increase of 59 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be partly sunny 🌞, with a high of 29 degrees at 2pm. Nine degrees below normal. Calm wind becoming southwest 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon. A year ago, we had light snow in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 38 degrees. The record high of 58 was set in 1927. 4.3 inches of snow fell back in 2001.❄

Looking ahead to Sunday, sunny, with a high near 34. 😎 Calm wind becoming southwest around 6 mph in the morning. Typical average high for the weekend is 38 degrees.

Got the big end of the year report in today and I have next week off for my trip. Probably will miss the office Christmas party but that’s fine. At lunch time I visited the ATM so I’ll have enough money should I need some. Also went to the Albany Public Library and got a few additional books so I’ll have lots to read. 📚

I’m a little worried about the darkness and the cold but I’ve certainly done these trips before and I’ve covered my bases and carefully planned everything out. Assuming there is a decent amount of sunshine for solar and my sanity I think it will be a good trip. If I get tired, or don’t want anymore darkness I can always drive home a bit early. One day at a time. Been a little sore and tired lately but hopefully some nice nights in the woods will help that. The stews I make should be good. 🍛 I am looking forward to long winter naps that are 12 hours long.

In four weeks on January 4 the sun will be setting at 4:35 pm,🌄 which is 13 minutes and 55 seconds later then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had rain, drizzle, snow, sleet, fog, patches of fog, mist, cloudy skies and temperatures between 44 and 22 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 31 and 15 degrees. The record high of 64 degrees was set back in 1950.

Looking ahead, First Day of Winter β˜ƒοΈ is in 2 weeks, 4:30 PM Sunset 🌆 is in 3 weeks, Winnie the Pooh Day 🍯 is in 6 weeks, 5 PM Sunset 🌆 is in 7 weeks, March 🌨 is in 12 weeks, Ides of March ✝ is in 14 weeks, 7:30 PM Sunset 🌇 is in 4 months, Memorial Day Weekend Starts 🏕️ is in 24 weeks and Dog Days of Summer 🌻 is in 30 weeks.

Cod Pond

December 6, 2018 8 AM Update

Good morning! Happy Saint Nicholas Day πŸŽ…! That’s a holiday that involves wooden shoes that are compostable I believe. A refreshing change from all that plastic and styrofoam. Four weeks to Latest Sunrise of the Winter πŸŒ„. Even while the evenings get longer the mornings will be darker. Snow flurries, gray and 24 degrees in Delmar.❄ There is a south-southwest breeze at 6 mph. πŸƒ. Things will start to thaw out at around 10 am. 🌑️

Today will be partly sunny 🌞, with a high of 38 degrees at 4pm.Β More sun later, or so I hope. Still haven’t fixed the lights in my office, so dark days are so dark. One degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around December 8th. Southwest wind 6 to 9 mph. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies. The high last year was 53 degrees. The record high of 68 was set in 2001. 12.5 inches of snow fell back in 2003.❄

The sun will set at 4:21 pm with dusk around 4:53 pm, which is 6 seconds earlier than yesterday. Big whoop. πŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for mostly cloudy skies ☁ and temperatures around 36 degrees. There will be a southwest breeze at 8 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 10 minutes of daytime, a decrease of one minute and 3 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a slight chance of snow showers after 8pm. Mostly cloudy 🌧, with a low of 23 degrees at 6am. Two degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical night around December 10th. Southwest wind 8 to 10 mph becoming west after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2017, we had mostly clear skies with more clouds in the early hours of the next day. It got down to 26 degrees. The record low of -7 occurred back in 1901.

Tonight I’m going to go to Tractor Supply in Glenmont get my propane tank topped off and look at buying a good quality axe. πŸ’¨ My propane tank is more than half full but I want make sure I have a full tank that way I won’t have a cold night later next week. Running out of propane is no fun, especially winter camping.

Last night I loaded a bunch of my camping gear into the truck. As I noted yesterday, I tested out the heater and confirmed that id working well.♨ Heater smelled a little like pine sap when I first turned it on, must have gotten some sap on it last year.🌲 But it works well. I didn’t try out each hose, but I feel confident that both are working fine and are dirt-free. I am thinking about ordering another lantern globe from Walmart and picking it up either on Friday or Saturday, just to be safe and m

I am thinking about getting some warm white Christmas lights to decorate the campsite, and I found some non lighted decorations around the apartment. πŸŽ„Long nights this time of year but I figure I can fill them with color. 🎁 Assuming we have as much sun as they are promising, I’m should have plenty of power for the long nights. In the winter, with out shading from the trees, the solar panel really does an awesome job.

Still chewing over what campsite is want to get, a year around plowed road is my strong preference, as is sheltered from the wind. That will keep me safe from an unexpected heavy snow fall, which seems unlikely based on next week’s forecast. Cell service also is nice to pass the time on the long nights. πŸŒƒ I’d also like a good view of the stars from the site and lots of sun for the solar panel. I’m not sure if I can have all those things, and it’s possible certain campsites will be taken by hunters or inaccessible due to snow banks, although I could always shovel them out. But I have some good ones on mind.

One problem I may is getting water during this time of year,Β as many lakes may be frozen.Β I am sure there are some springs and ponds I can break to get water though. 🌊 I’ll bring six gallons of water, and then if I can need to get more water, I’ll break the ice or find some open water. I bet Seneca Lake still has open water that I could get from the shoreline, I don’t think that’s frozen yet. This time of year, I will make sure my water bottles are connected to a long rope in case I drop them, and they start to float away in the frigid water, as happened camping in November a few years back, and I almost permanently lost it in the drink.🚰

Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until Latest Sunrise of the Winter πŸŒ„Β when the sun will be setting at 4:34 pm with dusk at 5:06 pm. On that day in 2018, we had rain, drizzle, freezing drizzle, mist, cloudy skies and temperatures between 37 and 31 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 31 degrees. We hit a record high of 61 back in 1913.

Almost halfway to the North Pole

November 13, 2018 Night

Good evening! Light snow and 29 degrees in Cooperstown. ❄ There is a west-northwest breeze at 13 mph. πŸƒ. Things will start to thaw out at Friday around 11 am. 🌑️

Tonight will snow showers likely, mainly after 1am. Mostly cloudy 🌧, with a low of 20 degrees at 6am. 12 degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical night around December 18th. Maximum wind chill around 9 at 5am; West wind 11 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Total nighttime snow accumulation of around 2 inches. In 2017, we had cloudy skies. It got down to 32 degrees. The record low of 12 occurred back in 1996.

Tonight will have a Waxing Crescent Moon πŸŒ’ with 37% illuminated. The moon will rise at 12:33 am. The First Quarter Moon will be tomorrow with scattered flurries. The Beaver Moon 🌝 is on Thursday, November 22nd. The sun will rise at 6:49 am with the first light at 6:19 am, which is one minute and 15 seconds later than yesterday. πŸŒ„ Tonight will have 14 hours and 12 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 13 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will snow showers likely, mainly before 9am, then a chance of snow showers with scattered flurries after 5pm. Mostly cloudy 🌦, with a high of 28 degrees at 2pm. 21 degrees below normal. Northwest wind 9 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of around an inch possible. A year ago, we had cloudy skies with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 40 degrees. The record high of 70 was set in 1973. 14.4 inches of snow fell back in 1972.❄

I’m glad I made it out here before the roads froze up, as the temperature kept dropping as I headed out this way and the wind was really whipping around on Interstate 88, and for a while it was sleeting hard making visiblity difficult. Having the headlights well adjusted did help though a lot. Fortunately, it seems like the road salt will keep things from getting too icy right away. Having a good burger at the Cooperstown Dinner πŸ” and then going down for a swim in the indoor swimming then in the hot tub at the place I’m staying made up for it. Sometimes work trips are fun. 😎 Nice digs, at least for the night. But a busy today tomorrow.

Much more fun on a cold night like today then camping up in the wilderness somewhere in the wilderness,πŸ• although if the snow disappears in December I probably will camp and maybe hunt up at Cherry Ridge in Charles Baker State Forest.Β My theory is we will get a big warm up with rain in mid-December, taking away the snow but maybe that’s wishful thinking. That was fun camping on Christmas Day 2015, not too cold that year, and it was a great hike at the Glimmerglass State Park. US 20 isn’t that far north of the northern part of the lake. Maybe I’ll have to visit the Cooperstown dinner again the next time I’m out here.

Truck has been working great, ever since I topped off the tires.☸ I guess I haven’t had the wheels in a hard lock, although I did rub a little on the wheel well backing out before, but I haven’t noticed any unusual noises since I raised the tire pressures up to 46 PSI cold. Some of them before I added air where about 39 PSI, which with those big tires is much too low, causing a lot of noise and poor handling on the curves. This might be too high for mid-summer when I’m off road and would lead to a rough ride, but for now the handling is superior and the ride is only slightly rougher on the bumps. I got to keep an eye on the tire pressure now that it’s getting to the colder time of the year.

I downloaded some of John Burrough’s audio books from LibreVox on my phone. I had no idea that my podcast program also is tied in LibreVox.πŸ”Š I keep meaning to listen to some of Borrough’s writings, I’ve been very interested ever since visiting the Borrough’s State Historic site. I might listen to them for a while tonight. We will see, it depends how difficult it is to get to sleep, or how much I listen to them before i’m head out. I have a long day tomorrow, probably with more driving after dark. But at least my headlights are well aimed now.

I still haven’t found my electronic projects wire strippers. Really fustrating. The ones I have aren’t an expensive tool, βœ‚ but a very essential one for building electronics. I will have to order another pear this weekend if I can’t find them. I don’t think I can get them locally, nowadays with Radio Shack gone.

Not a particularly nice weekend on tap. 😞 Saturday, mostly cloudy, with a high near 38. Sunday, mostly cloudy, with a high near 31. Typical average high for the weekend is 47 degrees. Maybe it will be nicer up north, but by then I expect they will have a ton of snow up there. If it’s sunnier and without new snow falling, I might try to get up north to do some tent hot camping this weekend. I though will have to plan on bringing my snow shovel, then digging out a parking spot, then moving my truck to campsite, as I expect a ton of snow up north.πŸ” Good for skiing though. A few inches of snow in Cooperstown, depending where you look. The mountains sure sure looked snowier around Interstate 88, probably too much snow to do the back roads in Burnt-Rossman State Forest any time soon.

In four weeks on December 11 the sun will be setting at 4:26 pm,πŸŒ„ which is 12 minutes and 8 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2017 on that day, we had snow, cloudy skies and temperatures between 34 and 24 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 37 and 23 degrees. The record high of 61 degrees was set back in 1952.

Sorry, if I’ve been too negative lately. 😠 It’s just tough adjusting to winter, which seems to have come so quickly. I wish I could have made my autumn road trip happen, it kind of sucks to have to put it off. But then again, I can’t control the snow or anything else that is going on.🌨 I’m still hoping the snow won’t set in for the year, but if it does, spring will eventually come, and then eventually the mud season will end and all the back country roads will open again.

Looking ahead, Christmas πŸŽ… is in 6 weeks, New Years Day 2019 πŸŽ‰ is in 7 weeks, 36th Birthday πŸŽ‰ is in 11 weeks, Daylight Savings Time πŸŒ† is in 17 weeks, Hottest Time of the Year πŸ˜… is in 8 months, Last Sunset After 8:30 PM πŸŒ† is in 35 weeks and Election Day 2020 πŸ—³οΈ is in 103 weeks.

View from End of Lake

November 11, 2018 Morning

Good morning! Veterans Day (Sunday, November 11th) 🇺🇸. Three weeks to First Sunday of Advent ✝️. Partly cloudy and 36 degrees in Delmar. ❄ There is a west-northwest breeze at 8 mph. 🍃. Fifty more days left in the year. Not a lot. 🎇

Today, Veterans Day will have a slight chance of snow showers before 9am. Partly sunny 🌞, with a high of 40 degrees at 1pm. 10 degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical day around December 4th. West wind 8 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 33 degrees. The record high of 70 was set in 2002. 3 inches of snow fell back in 1906.❄

I thought about heading up north to camp but honestly it’s a long drive for just one night and I’m not a real fan of camping in the snow. β›ΊThere isn’t a ton of snow along the East Branch but it’s still a fairly cold day for mid November. It’s not expected to get above freezing up north. I figure we might get a thaw before winter really sets in.

I kind of get tired of driving up NY 30 all the time too – it seems like am always heading up that way. Most of the firewood is likely buried under the snow and the campsite is like to camp in probably has too much snow to drive back too. So I’d have to drag things back and shovel out a parking spot. Plus it’s cheaper to just stay home. I might instead go for a walk down the rail trail and then go to the store for more supplies and maybe stop at the library for my internet fix. 💻

The sun will set at 4:36 pm with dusk around 5:06 pm, which is one minute and 2 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌇 At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies 🌃 and temperatures around 39 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 9 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 53 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 17 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be partly cloudy 🌤, with a low of 25 degrees at 6am. Eight degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical night around December 5th. West wind 5 to 8 mph becoming calm in the evening. In 2017, we had mostly clear skies with more clouds in the early hours of the next day. It got down to 22 degrees. The record low of 15 occurred back in 1976.

As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until First Sunday of Advent ✝️ when the sun will be setting at 4:22 pm with dusk at 4:54 pm. On that day in 2017, we had mostly cloudy skies and temperatures between 41 and 26 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 41 degrees. We hit a record high of 66 back in 1998.
