April 26, 2019 Afternoon

Good afternoon! Cloudy, damp with rain showers around and 55 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜” There is a southeast breeze at 13 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 49 degrees. Temperatures will drop below freezing at Monday around 3 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

As I had pretty much planned since mid week I’m back home from my two nights in the Adirondacks. โ›บ Yes I can camp in the pouring rain, I have tarps the heater and could build a big fire but do I really want to? I would have stayed north had things cleared out tomorrow but it looks like most of the day tomorrow in the Adirondacks will be bitterly cold with the wind and damp ground with very little sun expected.๐Ÿ’ฆ Rather than be crouched over a propane heater, spending the day adjusting a tarp to avoid leaks and dumping off the accumulated puddle of rain, I figure it best to come home and get unpacked ๐Ÿก. Yesterday was a great day, and I got two nights camping so that was a good time.

This afternoon will rain with possibly a thunderstorm between 1pm and 5pm, then a chance of rain and thunderstorms after 5pm. Cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a high of 60 degrees at 5pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical day around April 19th. Maximum dew point of 51 at 2pm. Southeast wind around 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had cloudy in the morning, which became partly cloudy by afternoon. The high last year was 56 degrees. The record high of 90 was set in 1990. .3 inches of snow fell back in 1993.โ„

The sun will set at 7:50 pm with dusk around 8:20 pm, which is one minute and 8 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and thunderstorms ๐ŸŒฉ and temperatures around 59 degrees. The dew point will be 51 degrees. There will be a southeast breeze at 13 mph. Today will have 13 hours and 54 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 36 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 2am, then a chance of showers. ๐ŸŒง Low of 48 degrees at 6am. Six degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical night around May 15th. Southeast wind 6 to 13 mph becoming southwest after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. In 2018, we had mostly clear in the evening, which became light rain by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 36 degrees. The record low of 26 occurred back in 1963.

It wasn’t a bad few days up north but this morning was unnecessarily wet for me as I didn’t take apart camp last night ๐ŸŒƒ before bed like I had planned. Not a big deal the only thing really wet was the flags and the bungee cords. They’re hanging up at home drying out now. Last night was pretty good, I made some pizza ๐Ÿ• up then had a fairly reasonable sized fire from the wood I chopped. The axe makes for much easier firewood ๐ŸŒฒprocessing. Solar worked okay but not great as there was too much shading in the campsite. If it had been a little warmer and the road was drier I would have camped back at the Fox Lair campsite especially now that I know there is fairly decent cell service there ๐Ÿ“ถ probably from Gore Mountain. It’s nice being able to check the weather and the news with the phone. ๐Ÿ“ฑ I’ll have to keep that campsite in mind come later in the summer.

The cellphone holder ๐Ÿ“ฑ I got from China continues to work quite well. It holds the phone very firmly no worries about it bouncing loose on the rough roads. I don’t touch my phone while driving but I like having WAZE and the bell ๐Ÿ”” that rings when you reach the speed limit. With cruise control working perfectly again on my truck, as soon as I hear the bell I hit the cruise control button and I don’t have to worry about speeding. I really like cruise control especially in the reduced speed zones. ๐Ÿš™

As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until Pack Rat Day ๐Ÿ€ when the sun will be setting at 8:13 pm with dusk at 8:45 pm. On that day in 2018, we had mostly cloudy skies and temperatures between 80 and 59 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 70 degrees. We hit a record high of 92 back in 2017.

 Mount Marcy

April 25, 2019 Afternoon

Good afternoon! Three weeks until the average high is 70 in Albany. ๐Ÿฎ But still a pretty nice day here in the Sieamese Pond Wilderness. Blue skies and sunny and 53 degrees at the end of the East Branch Sacandaga River Gorge Trail. There is a southwest breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Temperatures will drop below freezing at Sunday around 2 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

This afternoon will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 62 degrees at 4pm. One degree below normal for Albany, which is similiar to a typical day around April 24th. Not terrible for being in the Adirondack Wilderness in the spring. Southwest wind around 5 mph. Really not a cloud in the sky. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning, which tapered off to light drizzle by afternoon. The high last year was 57 degrees. The record high of 89 was set in 2009. 0.3 inches of snow fell back in 1928.โ„That’s the year they laid the cornerstone of the office building I work at far away from the wilderness I’m currently at.

Yesterday I kind of got stuck in the office ๐Ÿข until 5:30 so I didn’t get on the road until 5:45 but I drove straight out to Amsterdam so I was up to camp around 7:45. I kind of had some trouble getting the lantern ๐Ÿฎ started after replacing then again breaking a mantle but then I got it working after fiddling for a few minutes. It kind of was getting dark and I forgot to bring a bright ๐Ÿ”† light bulb ๐Ÿ’ก but with the flash light I finally got it going. Then I got the fire started ๐Ÿ”ฅ which really took off with some of the brush and other stuff that they had cut out for the new privy they built up at the campsite. ๐Ÿ’ฉ I was the first one to use it. The lights were up and the fire going good by 9ish and I stayed up listening ๐Ÿ‘‚ to podcasts until around 11:30. An obnoxious barred owl occasionally woke me up during the night with his who? Who? But so be it. ๐Ÿ˜ด

Today I hiked back to the East Branch Gorge Trail aftee hiking around Fox Lair for a while which I took pictures with from my other camera. ๐Ÿ“ท This time the trail wasn’t so icy unlike the time I tried it in 2014. ๐Ÿšถ Still its a pain to find the trail head, the best way to find it is to bushwhack following the East Branch until you reach the somewhat challenging to cross Kibby Pond outlook then follow it until you spot and old woods road and then ford the creek on the rocks and look for a herd path across from the old woods road. You never leave the view of the East Branch although at one point you do get quite a way above the gorge on the herd path up a good sized mountain. I was pretty underwhelmed by the end of the trail which had a pretty unimpressive designated tent ๐ŸŽช spot and then a relatively small water falls, maybe at most 20 feet tall. Further down the trail where the gorge is narrower is more impressive.

The sun will set at 7:52 pm with dusk around 8:22 pm, which is one minute and 11 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 57 degrees. Should be a delightful evening once I get that campfire ๐Ÿ”ฅ a roaring and some good eats cooking. There will be a south breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 13 hours and 55 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 42 seconds over yesterday. Almost to the point of the the fourteenth hour day.

Tonight will rain likely, mainly after 5am. Increasing clouds ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 41 degrees at 5am. Typical for tonight. Southeast wind 3 to 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2018, we had light rain in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 39 degrees. The record low of 24 occurred back in 1972.

Tomorrow will have periods of rain. The rain could be heavy at times. ๐ŸŒง High of 49 degrees at 2pm. 14 degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical day around March 27th. Southeast wind 8 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning, which became light drizzle by afternoon. The high last year was 56 degrees. The record high of 90 was set in 1990. 0.3 inches of snow fell back in 1993.โ„

Today is definitely a beautiful day ๐Ÿ˜Ž but maybe not so much tomorrow.๐Ÿ˜ฐ โ˜” I’m going to enjoy today and tonight I guess tomorrow I’ll head home. If it’s going to pour than be followed by cold rainy weekend no reason to stay up north. I would have liked a four day weekend but I had a nice big ass fire last night and the hike back to the East Branch of the Sacandaga River Gorge is pretty nice although I have to admit I’m a little bit under impressed the falls. The trail really ends after the narrows of the gorge and the most scenic part is relatively unaccessible. But the best is yet to come of the summer …

As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until Average High is 70 ๐Ÿฎ when the sun will be setting at 8:16 pm with dusk at 8:49 pm. On that day in 2018, we had partly sunny, patches of fog and temperatures between 72 and 51 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 70 degrees. We hit a record high of 89 back in 1991.

Not a particularly nice weekend on tap. ๐Ÿ˜ž Saturday, showers, mainly before 11am. High near 44. West wind 15 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. Sunday, showers likely, mainly after 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 46. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Typical average high for the weekend is 63 degrees.

In four weeks on May 23 the sun will be setting at 8:23 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 31 minutes and 8 seconds later then today. In 2018 on that day, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 81 and 56 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 72 and 49 degrees. The record high of 93 degrees was set back in 1964.

Looking ahead, Average High is 70 ๐Ÿฎ is in 3 weeks, Summer ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ is in 8 weeks, Independence Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ is in 10 weeks, August ๐ŸŒป is in 14 weeks, More Night then Day ๐ŸŒŒ is in 5 months and Last Sunset After 7 PM ๐ŸŒ† is in 23 weeks.

 Looking at the Lake

April 23, 2019 Night

Good evening! Rain showers and 65 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜” There is a south breeze at 14 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 50 degrees. I did my errands and got packed and are ready to go except for packing the cooler and personal things which I will do in the morning.

I’m not sure how many days I’ll spend up north at this point, I don’t have a camping permit โ›บ so I’ll need to move my campsite if I stay in the same area the full weekend. I don’t know though. The nice weather for four days has become a soaker on Friday and Saturday looks to be cold and blustery. Maybe I’ll just enjoy two nights up north and come back Friday. That might be the best option at this point. Still I’m glad to be kicking off my traveling season. I have the time, I should use some of it. I don’t pay all this money for my truck to leave it parked all the time. I’m not bringing my tent ๐ŸŽช but I have my heater with a full tank so I won’t run out.

Tonight will have showers likely, mainly before 1am. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 48 degrees at 5am. Eight degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical night around May 18th. Southwest wind 11 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. In 2018, we had mostly clear in the evening, which became mostly sunny by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 45 degrees. The record low of 25 occurred back in 1965.

Tonight will have a Waning Gibbous Moon ๐ŸŒ– with 67% illuminated with the moon rising at 12:28 am. The moon will rise at 1:00 am. The Last Quarter Moon is on Thursday night with partly cloudy skies. The Flower Moon ๐ŸŒ is on Friday, May 17th. The sun will rise at 6:00 am with the first light at 5:30 am, which is one minute and 30 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ Tonight will have 10 hours and 12 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 38 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 56 degrees at 3pm. Six degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical day around April 11th. Breezy, with a west wind 14 to 21 mph, with gusts as high as 36 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 70 degrees. The record high of 81 was set in 2001. 1.2 inches of snow fell back in 1967.โ„

In four weeks on May 21 the sun will be setting at 8:17 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 30 minutes and 20 seconds later then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 78 and 47 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 71 and 49 degrees. The record high of 92 degrees was set back in 1941.

Looking ahead, Last Sunset After 8:30 PM ๐ŸŒ† is in 12 weeks, Constitution Day ๐Ÿ“œ is in 21 weeks, October ๐Ÿ›ฅ is in 23 weeks and Election Day 2020 ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ is in 80 weeks.

 Route 23

April 19, 2019 Morning

Good afternoon! Today is Good Friday โœ๏ธ! Four weeks to Pack Rat Day ๐Ÿ€. Nothing like a good fire to celebrate that. ๐Ÿ”ฅ Mostly cloudy and 67 degrees at the Five Rivers Environmental Education Center. โ˜ There is a south breeze at 13 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 57 degrees. I figured that I had today off from work and it would be a nice thing to walk out here. Tomorrow is going to be rather wet and not much sun is expected until Easter Sunday. The skies will clear Sunday around 4 pm.

Ever since I’ve started walking out to Five Rivers Environmental Education Center I’ve started to appreciate it more. Walking out here you get to see the transitioning landscape from suburbia to a more rural landscape, ๐Ÿธ and somehow the nature seems more real than when you fly out here in motorized transportation. ๐Ÿš™ Plus the walk is free ๐Ÿšถ The rail trail ๐Ÿš‚is nice but it lacks the benches, bathrooms and solitude of the environmental education center.

Today will have a chance of showers, mainly after 3pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 72 degrees at 2pm. 12 degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical day around May 23rd. Maximum dew point of 58 at 1pm. South wind around 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had cloudy. The high last year was 44 degrees. The record high of 92 was set in 1976. 8.8 inches of snow fell back in 1983.โ„

I have no rush today at Five Rivers for a change, absolutely nothing planned for this afternoon. I can just sit an observe the natural world as long as I want. ๐Ÿฆ Kind of nice for a change. Everything lately seems rushed or on a schedule.โŒ›

Ever since I started listening to John Burroughs books on Libre Vox, I’ve started to enjoy more and more nature study. ๐Ÿ“™ Not necessarily just looking for one species but observing animal behavior. Maybe hunting and fishing got me started but there is much to learn in the woods and wilderness. ๐ŸŒฒEven just watching cows ๐Ÿฎ march through rip and munch grass can be pretty fascinating to me. I used to be a much more of a go-go-go type person when I was younger in the woods but now I like to study and observe more.

The sun will set at 7:42 pm with dusk around 8:12 pm, which is one minute and 9 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for rain showers ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 69 degrees. The dew point will be 58 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 10 mph. Today will have 13 hours and 35 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 43 seconds over yesterday.

Once I get back home this afternoon, I’ll have lunch and go down to the library. ๐Ÿ“– Mostly just to use the internet, maybe I’ll get a book out. Probably spend a few hours down there and maybe download some more videos to watch while riding the exercise bike. There is no shortage of videos this time of year on trout fishing, spreading manure or discing fields this time of year on the YouTube. Spring turkey too. Plus it’s interesting to find out what folks are doing on the many homesteading and off grid channels I follow. ๐ŸŽง To take it with me when I hike or ride the bus, I’ve written a script to convert the videos into audio files. Some videos really are better just to listen to the audio too.

Tonight will have showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. ๐ŸŒง Low of 64 degrees at 11pm. 25 degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 62 at 4am. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ South wind 10 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible. In 2018, we had mostly clear in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 31 degrees. The record low of 19 occurred back in 1875.

Next weekends forecast is shaping up nicely. Depending if it stays on course I may very well just take off Thursday and Friday to go up to the Adirondacks. โ›บ That will be four nights in the wilderness which means I’ll have to move my site after three nights but I can relocate my campsite the day I head fishing ๐ŸŽฃ or hiking. ๐Ÿšถ Lots of sun means lots of solar power which is great and hopefully I can rely primarily on the solar to keep the battery ๐Ÿ”‹ charged. Looking forward to some nights in the wilderness.

Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until Pack Rat Day ๐Ÿ€ when the sun will be setting at 8:13 pm with dusk at 8:45 pm. On that day in 2018, we had mostly cloudy and temperatures between 80 and 59 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 70 degrees. We hit a record high of 92 back in 2017.

 Central Avenue

February 5, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Tuesday. Two weeks to 5:30 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ†. Cloudy, damp, muddy and 46 degrees in Delmar. โ˜” There is a south breeze at 8 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. There are 1.25 inches of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ Temperatures will drop below freezing at around 10 pm. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

One more mild day today. Then February weather returns for the second half of the week, although honestly a bit above average until the weekend when it will be closer to average. ๐ŸŒžToday will again be relatively busy but still not too insane or so I hope. ๐Ÿ’ผBut maybe I’ll be able to catch the five o’clock home.๐ŸšŒ

I was running late again but fortunately so was the bus โŒš so I made it with time to spare to the bus stop. ๐ŸšI’ve been trying to get to bed earlier but I’ve been bad at that. I wake up at the normal time but then delay getting out of bed. That and I was planning on wearing the same pants as yesterday but I stopped when I discovered that there was mud on them from just walking around the city streets, kicking it up. I don’t care about mud that much, but I’m supposed to look nice for work. ๐Ÿ‘”It pays the bills and let’s me save for a better tomorrow, owning my own land in the wilderness. ๐Ÿ—ป

Today will have isolated showers before 11am. Mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 53 degrees at 12pm. 21 degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical day around April 3rd. I’ll take April weather in early February. Not all warm days are a result of climate change I tell myself. South wind 7 to 15 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 26 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had cloudy in the morning, which became sunny by afternoon. The high last year was 34 degrees. The record high of 59 was set in 1890. 10.4 inches of snow fell back in 2014.โ„

Snow has been doing a lot of melting yesterday, it was quite damp but mild. ๐Ÿ’งI’m glad it’s been warm enough to give the heat a break – I’ve left the thermostat at fifty since yesterday and with the solar radiation hitting the building yesterday it was 63 degrees inside by the time I got home.๐Ÿ”ฅ I’m not going to pay to keep the heat warm when it’s above freezing, I’d much prefer to keep it colder. Money is always tight, my heating bills this year seem a lot steeper than years past. But then again, I don’t hesitate to turn up the heat like I did years ago when I was younger. ๐Ÿ’ธ

The sun will set at 5:14 pm with dusk around 5:44 pm, which is one minute and 19 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 44 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 15 mph with gusts up to 26mph. Today will have 10 hours and 10 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 29 seconds over yesterday. Even longer, getting closer to twelve hours of daylight in a month.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 22 degrees at 6am. Six degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical night around March 4th. Northwest wind 6 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph. In 2018, we had clear in the evening, which became light snow by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 15 degrees. The record low of -20 occurred back in 1948.

Tomorrow will have a slight chance of rain and sleet between 3pm and 4pm, then a chance of rain. Increasing clouds ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 35 degrees at 1pm. Two degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical day around February 15th. Light and variable wind becoming southeast 5 to 8 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Little or no sleet accumulation expected. A year ago, we had cloudy in the morning, which became sunny by afternoon. The high last year was 30 degrees. The record high of 55 was set in 1991. 10.8 inches of snow fell back in 1978.โ„

Monday wasn’t too bad of a day, work got out around 7:40, I ended up taking the 8:15 busย ๐ŸšŒ home and having a quick bite to eat before going on my evening walk around the block.๐ŸŒฏ A nice starry night, warm enough that I could walk with just a t-shirt and my vest.๐Ÿ‘•

I ordered some micro USB cables from AliExpress. I ordered the UGreen brand which if they are anything like the latest ones I ordered are built to be very high quality, durable, heavy while in minimal but professional looking plastic envelopes. ๐Ÿ”ŒNot a lot of waste.โ™ป I ordered a 3 meter and two 1.5 meter cables for $10, which if they are like the last two I ordered from them are a very good deal. I know that you can get cheap USB cables from Amazon but they aren’t as nice as the UGreen cables. The 3 meter cable is nine feet long which means that I can reach either microcontroller mounted on the wall from my laptop without moving it from where it sits by my desk.

For simple components, I swear by most of the things I have gotten from AliExpress. Only one or two things have either gotten lost in the mailโœ‰ or been below expectations but most components arrive within two weeks and are all within specs, same quality as if you ordered from a United States retailer.๐Ÿ“ฆ

While I was on AliExpress I also bought some 5 volt linear regulators. I am thinking about building a smart switch for the solar panel and the dual batteries so that when I have a lot of sun I can not only top off the accessory battery ๐Ÿ”‹but also the starting battery while automatically disconnecting them when there is little sun to avoid the batteries fighting or over discharging. I could use the built-in linear regulator of the Arduino Nano but I fried one last year with the 15.4 volts of the alternator output at times and the summer heat. I’ve 3.3 volt regulators in my toolbox but no 5 volt ones.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until 5:30 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ† when the sun will be setting at 5:32 pm with dusk at 6:01 pm. On that day in 2018, we had rain showers, partly cloudy and temperatures between 44 and 23 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 36 degrees. We hit a record high of 66 back in 1981.

A bit cool but sunny this time weekend. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 28. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 31. Typical average high for the weekend is 33 degrees. Should be nice, certainly not frigid. I’ll take it.

I am still chewing over my weekend plans. Maybe I’ll go up to Johnstown or maybe not. It’s still quite a bit of a drive for a relatively small outdoors show and I’m still thinking about heading out of town for Presidents Day Weekend.โ›บ Weather depending of course. This weekend doesn’t look that bad but kind of chilly but that’s expected for February. I should see when the Adirondack Ice Races on Lake Algonquin are – if they were this weekend – that would increase my incentive for going north. Of course the other problem is finding a pull off where I can park and hike back to a campsite along route 8 this time of year. Maybe I should just wait and save my mileage and gas expenses until it gets warmer.โ›ฝ Two months from now will be early April after all. But in the mean time, the only weather is expected to moderate a bit…

In four weeks on March 5 the sun will be setting at 5:50 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 35 minutes and 39 seconds later then today. In 2018 on that day, we had cloudy, snow showers and temperatures between 38 and 31 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 40 and 22 degrees. The record high of 71 degrees was set back in 1964.

The ants seem to have disappeared from the counter. I’m glad about that. I don’t know if it took a while for the ant bait to work or just spraying the area where they were coming from was enough. It’s been over 24 hours since I saw the last ant so I’m hopeful.๐Ÿœ I have this big bottle of spray now so I may use it when and if I see them again. Much like mice and other pests,๐Ÿญ they tend to come and go in cycles – you have mice until you catch them all and then they are gone for months if not years.

Looking ahead, 5:30 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ† is in 2 weeks, Cinco de Mayo ๐Ÿค  is in 3 months, 8:30 PM Sunset ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ is in 4 months, Dog Days of Summer ๐ŸŒป is in 5 months, Last Sunset After 8:30 PM ๐ŸŒ† is in 23 weeks and Election Day 2020 ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ is in 91 weeks.

91 weeks until presidential Election Day! Now you know. I’ll already be thinking my post election November road trip at that point. The bus is almost downtown, it’s off to work. Have a great day for sure on this Tuesday!

 Lincoln Park

December 27, 2018 Night

Good evening! Partly cloudy and 29 degrees in Delmar. โ›… There is a south-southeast breeze at 9 mph. 🍃. Things will start to thaw out at tomorrow around 4 am. 🌡๏ธ

It wasn’t too bad for the evening walk but I suspect later in the night it could be icy. By the time I go to work tomorrow I don’t expect any problems though on the roads not that I plan to drive anywhere but will be taking the bus. Going to quite mild tomorrow. 🏃

Tonight will have a slight chance of snow before 2am, then sleet likely between 2am and 4am, then freezing rain likely after 4am. Cloudy 🌥, with a low of 27 degrees at 10pm. 10 degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical night around December 2nd. Southeast wind 9 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. Little or no ice accumulation expected. Total nighttime snow and sleet accumulation of less than a half inch possible. In 2017, we had partly clear skies. It got down to -5 degrees. It was cold the end of last December. The record low of -14 occurred back in 1951.

I ended up getting home, having dinner and listening to Marketplace then playing with my phone before going on the evening walk. I get tired of going down to the library all off the time and instead are trying to spend more evenings at home, going for my evening walk a bit tired. But I have to admit I wasted my time at home screwing around with Facebook and reading news articles on the internet, sharing random things of interest.

I really should have spent the time messing around with Bluetooth more so I can get the various things I’ve built in my bedroom talking to one another. I tried hooking something up on this Arduino Uno shield I had but I guess it’s only for soldering rather than a breadboard so I’m going to have to move everything over the next time I work on it. I have a dozen other boring projects like scrubbing and cleaning my tub which has gotten really dirty that should be done too. But I’ve been tired lately. 📻Waiting for Marketplace to come on at 6:30 pm is kind of silly because I subscribe to the podcast and honestly I don’t day trade, although I do like to expand my knowledge of the markets over the long term and what the real experts – not the flash in the pan commentators say about the economy and how I can eventually secure the good life for myself with land and an off grid cabin. 🏡 But I was so fried and that’s my excuse. 💤

I’m still considering going up to the Adirondacks after the pine bush hike 🚶but I’m still a bit concerned about the forecast. I don’t want to camp through four days of clouds then rain on New Years Eve. 💦 That said not much ice is expected up north and the rain tomorrow will melt most of snow down to an icy glaze. I should be able to park near the road and camp not that far back although I doubt I’ll have cell service for the campsite I have in mind. โ›บ

I don’t know I’m somewhat inclined to stay home and save the money which is a bit tight after Christmas and work on some electronics projects and coding. And do a day trip to hike somewhere locally. The wind on Saturday sounds cold and the mercury will fall dramatically come Sunday.📉 I’m not sure although I’ll need to decide fairly early tomorrow so I can get propane topped off and food if I do decide to go up north. I wouldn’t mind getting away from it all for a few days, especially if I lack cell service as well close out 2018.📡 It would be fun to spend the last night of the year, waking to a new year in the tent, sleeping in the wilderness but not in the pouring rain. 🎇

In four weeks on January 24 the sun will be setting at 4:58 pm,🌄 which is 29 minutes and 52 seconds later then tonight.
