October 19, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. Six weeks to Cyber Monday ๐Ÿ›๏ธ and Beaver Moon ๐ŸŒ•. Buy more plastic shit that makes lots of black smoke when you burn it. ๐Ÿ”ฅ Very cloudy and gray but a mild 54 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜๏ธ Maybe rain โ˜” soon? I should look There is a south breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 50 degrees. The skies will clear around 11 am.

Being so dark and cloudy this morning ๐ŸŒซ๏ธ I feel foggy myself, ๐Ÿคฏ but maybe it’s just a bad case of the Mondays. I have two online meetings today ๐Ÿ“น that I’ll do down at the library, making sure my laptops are charging ๐Ÿ”‹ now as I doubt ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ there will be much solar power. Not sure if we are going to get rain in Delmar, but who knows. It’s probably better to be home then in woods.

Today will have a slight chance of showers after 3pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 63 degrees at 2pm. Four degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around October 9th. Maximum dew point of 52 at 12pm. South wind 6 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 59 degrees. The record high of 79 was set in 1963. There was a dusting of snow in 1992.โ„

Looks like Centralย New York is pretty wet this morning, ๐ŸŒง so I guess it’s good to be back home. It would be bad driving home in the rain after work, and working from some random library in Central NY when it was pouring rain all day.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:41 pm with sun having an altitude of 37.2ยฐ from the due south horizon (-33.6ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 7.9 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 5:29 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (250ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (257ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 6:07 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 58 seconds with dusk around 6:34 pm, which is one minute and 34 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon in the southwest (224ยฐ) at an altitude of 14ยฐ from the horizon, 228,701 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 7:09 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 59 degrees. The dew point will be 52 degrees. There will be a south-southeast breeze at 7 mph. Today will have 10 hours and 52 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 46 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a chance of showers, mainly after 11pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 53 degrees at 12am. 15 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 13th. Maximum dew point of 53 at 4am. South wind 7 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. In 2019, we had clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 34 degrees. The record low of 18 occurred back in 1972.

This weekend doesn’t look half bad. โ›… Saturday, a chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 64. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Maximum dew point of 54 at 9am. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 52. Typical average high for the weekend is 57 degrees.

I am starting to think ๐Ÿค” I took the wrong weekend to go to Central New York but I don’t know. It was a good weekend to go out and enjoy the colors while they are still left ๐Ÿ‚, they are rapidly fading now as we head closer to November. I don’t have any plans now until mid November and with more days being back in the office ๐Ÿข and less remote work ๐Ÿ’ป, it gets harder to take long weekends – plus I’m running low on vacation time. โณ

Looking ahead, there are 6 weeks until Cyber Monday ๐Ÿ›๏ธ and Beaver Moon ๐ŸŒ• when the sun will be setting at 4:23 pm with dusk at 4:54 pm (Standard Time). On that day in 2019, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 33 and 19 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 42 degrees. We hit a record high of 67 back in 1933.

October 7, 2020 Night

Good evening! Rain showers and 56 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜” Breezy, ๏ธ22 mph breeze from the west ๐ŸŒฌ with gusts up to 44 mph ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ. The dew point is 44 degrees.

I don’t mind not having power ๐Ÿ”Œ but not having data service for my phone all afternoon although now it’s working again. Not sure if the network was totally overloaded but it was frustrating ๐Ÿ˜ค getting emails in but not able to respond. ๐Ÿ“ง I sat out back for a while but it started to rain so I came inside.

I ended up running in office ๐Ÿข downtown to get to emails because it was bad to be totally off the grid at work all afternoon. Not good for remote working. โ›ฝ I was very low on gas so I ended up getting gas at the expensive gas station in Albany because Glenmont was still dark on my way home. I was planning on going to the store ๐Ÿ›’ and get some groceries but everything is still dark in Glenmont. Not a lot of trees down but there was no stop lights ๐Ÿšฅ on Delmar bypass.

Tonight will have isolated showers before 10pm. Partly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 43 degrees at 6am. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 6th. Breezy, with a northwest wind 14 to 23 mph, with gusts as high as 45 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2019, we had light drizzle in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 45 degrees. The record low of 21 occurred back in 1964.

Tonight will have a Waining Gibbous ๐ŸŒ– Moon with 69% illuminated. The moon will rise at 9:45 pm. The darkest hour is at 12:44 am, followed by dawn at 6:32 am, and sun starting to rise at 7:00 am in the east (97ยฐ) and last for 2 minutes and 55 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 8 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 7:38 am with sun in the east-southeast (104ยฐ). Tonight will have 12 hours and 35 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 50 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 58 degrees at 3pm. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around October 20th. Northwest wind 13 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning, which became light rain by afternoon. The high last year was 65 degrees. The record high of 80 was set in 2017.

I thought by now we we would have power ๐Ÿ”Œ but at least I have data service. ๐Ÿ“ถ I can plug things into my truck with the solar come morning. ๐ŸŒ… But I’m sure by morning I’ll have power. That said I’m using my usual battery ๐Ÿ”‹ lantern ๐Ÿฎ for light in my bedroom and it’s plenty bright. I didn’t do my evening walk ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป although it probably wouldn’t have been good with the weather at any rate.

With the latest forecast I decided to stay in town this weekend as it only looks like the hurricane ๐ŸŒ€ will be pushing in earlier than expected and Sunday into Monday will be quite wet.

In four weeks on November 4 the sun will be setting in the west-southwest (249ยฐ) at 4:44 pm (Standard Time),๐ŸŒ„ which is one hour, 41 minutes and 51 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 51 and 29 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 53 and 34 degrees. The record high of 76 degrees was set back in 1994.

Looking ahead, Average High is 55 ๐Ÿ‚ is in 3 weeks, Day After Election Day ๐Ÿ›€ is in 4 weeks, Veterans Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ is in 5 weeks, Earliest Sunset of the Year โŒ›๏ธ is in 9 weeks, Tea Party Day ๐Ÿ is in 10 weeks, Festivus ๐Ÿ– is in 11 weeks, Bacon Day ๐Ÿฅ“ is in 12 weeks, Make Your Dream Come True Day ๐Ÿก is in 14 weeks, Inauguration Day โœ… is in 15 weeks, Clean Your Computer Day ๐Ÿงน is in 18 weeks and Presidents Day ๐Ÿ‘ด is in 19 weeks.

October 2, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Average High is 65 ๐Ÿ‚! Six weeks to Average Night Below Freezing ๐ŸŒŒ. I’d say it’s rain showers and 50 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜” Calm wind. Kind of a typical wet October day, seems like the kind I’ve spent too many days camping ๐Ÿ• in the autumn. ๐Ÿ‚

Slept in a bit this morning ๐Ÿ’ค because of the rain and not needing to catch a bus downtown. ๐Ÿš I heard the news ๐Ÿ“ฐ last night that President Trump has the Coronavirus ๐Ÿ‘พand wasn’t that shocked ๐Ÿ˜ฒ. A lot of politicians are getting it, they’re around a lot of people. ๐Ÿ˜ท That said, he really should be wearing a mask.

Today will have light rain likely before noon, then a chance of showers, mainly between noon and 3pm. Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny ๐ŸŒง, with a high of 61 degrees at 4pm. Four degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around October 12th. Very much a wet rainy day. Maximum dew point of 51 at 11am. Calm wind becoming south around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning, which became light rain by afternoon. So I have that Zoom Meeting ๐Ÿ“น at eleven which I’ll do from the library parking lot. I am hoping to push live the theme for the blog, which hopefully will look nicer and be faster loading. I am trying to better display some of my photos and present my content in a more useful fashion.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:45 pm with sun having an altitude of 43.6ยฐ from the due south horizon (-27.2ยฐ vs. 6/21). The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 5:58 pm with the sun in the west (259ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west (266ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 6:36 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 55 seconds with dusk around 7:02 pm, which is one minute and 45 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 7:37 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 57 degrees. The dew point will be 47 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 5 mph. September 25, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Yeah, it’s Friday! Next Friday is Average High is 65 in Albany ๐Ÿ‚. Partly cloudy and 46 degrees at Mason Lake. โ›… Calm wind.

An absolutely beautiful day. โ˜€๏ธLots of blue sky and bright colors on the trees all around. ๐ŸŒฒ I really managed to hit peak ๐Ÿ—ป color in the Adirondacks. Got some rain last night which caught me by surprise ๐Ÿ˜ฒ but nothing got too wet and it was a brief storm. โ˜” And the thing was it was fairly warm this morning so the damp and wet wasn’t a big deal. I didn’t even bother with hooking up the heater.

Today will have isolated showers between 10am and noon. Patchy fog before 10am. Otherwise, mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 76 degrees at 3pm. Eight degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 7th. Maximum dew point of 55 at 11am. Calm wind becoming southwest 5 to 8 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies. The high last year was 76 degrees. The record high of 91 was set in 2017.

Busy day this morning ๐Ÿ’ป with a Zoom Meeting plus a report to edit today. I will probably work at the library parking lot ๐Ÿ“š to start out the day and then go down an sit by the lake or walk the nature trail. It’s such a nice day, I wish I didn’t have to work all day. At least I’m not home ๐Ÿก and enjoying the beautiful weather up north. Going to be even warmer come the weekend.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:50 pm with sun having an altitude of 45.3ยฐ from the due south horizon (-24.5ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 5.9 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 6:13 pm with the sun in the west (263ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west (269ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 6:51 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 57 seconds with dusk around 7:17 pm, which is one minute and 50 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Gibbous ๐ŸŒ” Moon in the south-southeast (162ยฐ) at an altitude of 21ยฐ from the horizon, 237,543 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 7:52 pm. At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 72 degrees. The dew point will be 54 degrees. There will be a southwest breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 12 hours of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 58 seconds over yesterday.

Calm wind. In 2019, we had partly cloudy skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 53 degrees. The record low of 29 occurred back in 1947.

Nine degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 4th. Maximum dew point of 55 at 11am. Light south wind increasing to 5 to 10 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies. The high last year was 69 degrees. The record high of 90 was set in 2017.

I thought about going to Piseco Powley Road come the weekend โ›บ but I need to have cell service this weekend ๐Ÿ“ถ so I’ll stay around the Spectulator area this weekend, maybe go for a cold swim at the Spectulator Village Beach ๐Ÿ– come Sunday. Who knows!

Looking ahead to Sunday, mostly cloudy, with a high near 76. South wind 7 to 14 mph. ๐ŸŒž Maximum dew point of 59 at 11am. Typical average high for the weekend is 68 degrees.

At any rate, it’s going to be a really nice weekend. โ˜บ I am glad I’m up north ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป and can enjoy the great colors ๐Ÿณ๏ธโ€๐ŸŒˆ even if I have to work part of the long weekend up north here.

Last night I had another field mouse ๐Ÿญ in my truck cap which was obnoxious but I’m not sure what they are being attracted too. They were also on the table rattling pots and pans ๐Ÿณ which was obnoxious.

As previously noted, next Friday is Average High is 65 ๐Ÿ‚ when the sun will be setting at 6:36 pm with dusk at 7:04 pm. September 1, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy September ๐ŸŽ! Doesn’t seem like summer is already dun in in this most odd of years. But metrological summer has come and gone. Three weeks to Autumn ๐Ÿ‚. Then the nights will be longer than the days. Mostly cloudy and 62 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ There is a south-southeast breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 59 degrees. The skies will clear Thursday around noontime.

Not a super nice day to start out metrological autumn โ˜๏ธ with all the clouds. But often autumn is cloudy in Upstate NY, especially the month of November. I don’t know how wet it is going to be later on though. I don’t have a lot of ambitious plans, I’ll probably work from home or I could walk down to the park or library later and use my laptop ๐Ÿ’ป from there. I do need to think about getting a new laptop battery ๐Ÿ”‹ as it really isn’t holding a charge well.

Today will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a high of 74 degrees at 1pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 11th. Maximum dew point of 62 at 1pm. South wind 6 to 10 mph. I think we might see some clearing out later but who knows. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 75 degrees. The record high of 96 was set in 1953.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:56 pm with sun having an altitude of 55.4ยฐ from the due south horizon (-15.4ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 4.1 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 6:53 pm with the sun in the west (276ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (282ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:31 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 57 seconds with dusk around 7:58 pm, which is one minute and 42 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Full ๐ŸŒ Moon in the east-southeast (110ยฐ) at an altitude of 2ยฐ from the horizon, 247,479 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:35 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 71 degrees. The dew point will be 61 degrees. There will be a south-southeast breeze at 8 mph. Today will have 13 hours and 8 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 46 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have scattered showers, mainly after 3am. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 64 degrees at 1am. Seven degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 62 at 6pm. South wind around 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2019, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became light rain by the early hours of the morning. It became somewhat humid as the night progressed. It got down to 62 degrees. The record low of 38 occurred back in 2017.

On this day in 1985, a joint Americanโ€“French expedition locates the wreckage of the Titanic. โ›ด๏ธ Asked for my opinion on the movie ๐Ÿ“ผ – I heard it sunk.

A picture perfect weekend on tap. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Saturday, sunny, with a high near 73. Maximum dew point of 52 at 8am. Sunday, sunny, with a high near 77. Maximum dew point of 55 at 11am. Typical average high for the weekend is 76 degrees.

I still haven’t made a decision about the weekend ๐Ÿค” but I might go out to Vermont for a couple of days if the weather is good and work remotely from there. If I go up there early in the week I should be able to get a good campsite โ›บ with cell reception ๐Ÿ“ถ.

As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until Autumn ๐Ÿ‚ when the sun will be setting at 6:52 pm with dusk at 7:20 pm. On that day in 2019, we had hot weather to start out autumn with mostly sunny skies, shallow fog and temperatures between 87 and 51 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 70 degrees. We hit a record high of 95 back in 1895.

Gold Mine Stream Falls, the Potholers Little Brother โ›ฒ

Roughly 200 feet south of Campsite 14 on Piseco Powley Road, past a small wetland there is a trailhead marked with a water bottle. This unmarked trail is roughly two miles back to the Gold Mine Stream Falls. This gentle set of cascades and drops has several small pools at the bottom with a gentle flow of water over the rock face. It’s a nice place to hike to and cool off on a hot summer day. Not as big as the Potholers and lacking the little deep pools or big waterfalls, it’s still a nice place to cool off on a hot day.

I have that Zoom Meeting this morning at 10 am ๐Ÿคณ๐Ÿป so I probably should shave and maybe shower ๐Ÿšฟ so I don’t look like the dirty hick that I am. ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐ŸŒพ It’s a nice enough morning I’m tempted to drive down to the park ๐Ÿž and do it there rather than the library. I think ๐Ÿค” it might be a more comfortable place to do it.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:58 pm with sun having an altitude of 56.9ยฐ from the due south horizon (-13.9ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 3.9 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Gibbous ๐ŸŒ” Moon in the south-southeast (157ยฐ) at an altitude of 20ยฐ from the horizon, 236,342 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:42 pm. The Yippees had some great protests โœŒ๐ŸปโœŒ๐Ÿฟ and really put a bright public spotlight on some very valid concerns about the war. ๐Ÿ’ฅ

Tomorrow will have showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. ๐ŸŒง High of 78 degrees at 2pm. Typical for Tomorrow. I am hoping in two weeks after the Labor Day Holiday ๐Ÿ‚ to get up north and camp in the Spectulator area for an extended weekend and work from the Spectulator Library if we have some nice weather. By then I think the crowds will have cleared out. I do think Labor Day Weekend will be crazy ๐Ÿคช so I’ll probably spend that weekend either at home or maybe hammock or tent camping at a state forest somewhere. Never been one for crowds but with the pandemic I’m shunning them even more. โ›บ

I was reading ๐Ÿ“– more of that backyard pig ๐Ÿ–farming group I’m a member of on Facebook. ๐ŸŠ Apparently a lot of pigs don’t like citrus and they can be quite picky eaters. ๐Ÿฝ๏ธ You can’t feed a pig everything that is wet and won’t burn well in your burn barrel. ๐Ÿ”ฅ But most of that other stuff rots or chickens ๐Ÿ” will like it for a treat. Between using paper for bedding, feeding scraps and reusing plastic containers there is a lot one can do to reduce the amount of trash ๐Ÿ—‘ going up in smoke ๐Ÿ’ญ on a homestead.

As previously noted, next Friday is Labor Day Weekend Begins ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿญ when the sun will be setting at 7:24 pm with dusk at 7:52 pm.
