August 23, 2020 Night

Good evening! Cloudy, damp and humid and 72 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜๏ธ Calm wind. The dew point is 67 degrees. The skies will clear around 10 pm.

It was a nice weekend even if things didn’t totally go to plan. ๐Ÿ– Glimmerglass was nice, I had always wanted to check that out in the summer. The beach was pretty good, a rather large beach I have to say which made it not feel crowded despite being quite popular – social distancing was quite easy to follow. ๐Ÿ‘ฅ Otsego Lake is quite pretty this time of year compared to the autumn when it is quite gray.

Tonight will have a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms before 11pm. Mostly cloudy โ›ˆ๏ธ, with a low of 66 degrees at 4am. Seven degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 67 at 10pm. Calm wind. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2019, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 53 degrees. The record low of 42 occurred back in 1971.

Tonight will have a Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon with 30% illuminated. At 10 PM, the moon was in the west-southwest (250ยฐ) at an altitude of 6ยฐ from the horizon, some 226,602 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. ๐Ÿš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by February 11th. Buckle up for safety! ๐Ÿ’บ The moon will set in the west-southwest (256ยฐ) at 10:32 pm. The darkest hour is at 12:59 am, followed by dawn at 5:42 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:12 am in the east-northeast (74ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 1 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 4 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:50 am with sun in the east (80ยฐ). Tonight will have 10 hours and 28 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 41 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 1pm. Partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 87 degrees at 2pm. Eight degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 70 at 11am. Tomorrow is going to be super hot and humid for sure. Maybe some thunderstorm โ›ˆ will help cool things down. Calm wind becoming southwest around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 75 degrees. The record high of 95 was set in 1947.

I have that Zoom meeting tomorrow ๐Ÿ“น so I’ll have to shave and get cleaned up and go down to the library to do the meeting. It’s going to be absurdly hot but I guess I could work down at the park under a tree if it’s too uncomfortable. After the Zoom meeting I can come home I guess and work by the fan. โ˜ข๏ธ

In four weeks on September 20 the sun will be setting in the west (272ยฐ) at 6:55 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 48 minutes and 26 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had partly sunny, patches of fog and temperatures between 79 and 42 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 71 and 50 degrees. The record high of 90 degrees was set back in 1946.

After listening to the Off Farm Income Podcast ๐ŸŽง the other day and driving through rural Schoharie County I’m increasingly thinking ๐Ÿ’ญ I need to set harder goals towards owning my own land and moving out to the country. ๐Ÿšœ Affordable small towns in a low tax state – where I can buy land a lot of land cheap with saved up cash should be my priority. ๐Ÿก If the property is off grid and I don’t need many services then I can work a lower paid job and still live a good life out in the country with all the freedoms of small town living. ๐Ÿ Maybe 2030 is too soon ๐Ÿ”œ but I think 2035 is a very realistic option.

Looking ahead, Average High 70 ๐ŸŽ‘ is in 4 weeks, More Night then Day ๐ŸŒŒ is in 5 weeks, Last Sunset After 6:30 PM ๐ŸŒ† is in 6 weeks, November ๐Ÿฅง is in 10 weeks, First Sunday of Advent โœ๏ธ is in 15 weeks, Saint Nicholas Day ๐ŸŽ… is in 15 weeks, Festivus ๐Ÿ– is in 4 months, Latest Sunrise of the Winter ๐ŸŒ„๏ธ is in 19 weeks, National Cheese Lovers Day ๐Ÿง€ is in 5 months and Valentines Day โค๏ธ is in 25 weeks.

August 23, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Sunday. โ›ช Four weeks to Average High 70 ๐ŸŽ‘ . Mostly sunny and 61 degrees at Burnt-Rossman State Forest. There is a south-southwest breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 60 degrees.

Nice start to the morning, โ˜€ going to take camp down relatively early then head up to Glimmerglass. It should be a nice summer day to explore the park, ๐Ÿž do some fishing ๐ŸŽฃ and go for a swim. ๐ŸŠ๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ I did check online to make sure the beach is open.

It was going to have eggs ๐Ÿฅš ๐Ÿณ this morning but I forgot to get pan spray or bring oil so I think instead I’ll have cereal ๐Ÿฅฃ and toast. Much quicker clean up and take down that way. I’m hoping to have camp taken down by nine 9โƒฃ o’clock.

Today will have scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 2pm. Mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 82 degrees at 3pm. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around August 9th. Maximum dew point of 65 at 10am. Southwest wind 5 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 77 degrees. The record high of 94 was set in 1947.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 1:01 pm with sun having an altitude of 58.8ยฐ from the due south horizon (-12.2ยฐ vs. 6/21). The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:10 pm with the sun in the west (280ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (286ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:48 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 1 seconds with dusk around 8:15 pm, which is one minute and 36 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the First Quarter ๐ŸŒ“ Moon in the southwest (231ยฐ) at an altitude of 22ยฐ from the horizon, 226,557 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:53 pm. At sunset, look for thunderstorms ๐ŸŒฉ and temperatures around 77 degrees. The dew point will be 63 degrees. There will be a southwest breeze at 7 mph. Today will have 13 hours and 32 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 39 seconds over yesterday.

In 2019, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 53 degrees. The record low of 42 occurred back in 1971.

On this day in 1970, Cรฉsar Chรกvez’s Salad Bowl strike, the largest farm worker strike in U.S. history, begins.๐Ÿฅฆ๐Ÿฅ‘๐Ÿฅ•๐ŸŒฝ

Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until Average High 70 ๐ŸŽ‘ when the sun will be setting at 6:58 pm with dusk at 7:26 pm. On that day in 2019, we had partly sunny, patches of fog and temperatures between 79 and 42 degrees. We hit a record high of 90 back in 1946. ๐Ÿ‚ I bet by then there will be some good color at Moose River Plains.

August 22, 2020 Night

Good evening! Mostly clear and 67 degrees at the Burnt Rossman State Forest . Calm wind. ๐ŸŒƒ The dew point is 61 degrees.

Nice night up in the woods. ๐ŸŒŒ A lot of stars but with the humidity not as clear as you might think ๐Ÿค”. Maybe it would be nice if it was a tad bit warmer but no complaints there.

I was definitely disappointed that Mine Kill Pool ๐ŸŠ๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ was closed for the year well except for the dive tank and kiddy pool due to a maintenance issue. But that gives me an excuse to drive out to Cooperstown in the morning and try swimming at Glimmerglass State Park. Never swam in Otego Lake but it’s worth a try. It’s a ways out of the way but if I don’t go tomorrow it will be closed for the year in a few weeks.

I actually thought about going to Madison County to camp โ›บ but I bet Cherry Ridge ๐Ÿ’ will be packed as is a lot of the sites up at Burnt Rossman. From fisherman to people shooting in the gravel pit to hikers and bicyclists – including one riding past at 10 pm – it’s so busy up here. I look forward to things quieting down after Labor Day but will it? Or will just a lot of folks be out hunting? ๐ŸฆŒ ๐Ÿฆƒ Mine Kill State Park was packed too today. I still need to get my hunting license. ๐ŸŽซ

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 61 degrees at 3am. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around August 13th. Maximum dew point of 61 at 10pm. South wind 3 to 6 mph. In 2019, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 58 degrees. The record low of 44 occurred back in 1988.

Tonight will have a Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon with 20% illuminated. At 10 PM, the moon was in the west (263ยฐ) at an altitude of 1ยฐ from the horizon, some 226,288 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. ๐Ÿš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by February 10th. Buckle up for safety! ๐Ÿ’บ The darkest hour is at 1:02 am, followed by dawn at 5:44 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:14 am in the east-northeast (74ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 1 seconds. August 22, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Saturday. It’s the weekend! Today marks the final month of calendar summer, autumn is one month away on September 22nd. ๐Ÿ‚ After several days lately that felt like autumn, today is going to be a hit one. Partly sunny and 63 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜€ Calm wind. The dew point is 61 degrees.

The plan today is to head out to Schoharie County to swim ๐ŸŠ๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ and maybe some short hikes at Mine Kill State Park but nothing too dramatic as it’s going to be a balmy late summer afternoon. Pool opens at 10 am and closes at 6 pm but I’m okay with the earlier closing as it gets dark fairly early this time of year and it takes time to set up camp โ›บ and make dinner.

First thought I got to review the document ๐Ÿ“‚I’m working on for work and send that along. I got it last night and reviewed on my phone but if rather give it a fresh look on the laptop๐Ÿ”Ž in the morning. ๐ŸŒ… I want to run to the store return some beer cans ๐Ÿบand maybe get some hot dogs for dinner. ๐ŸŒญ Looking forward to all the goodies I can get at the farm stands in Schoharie. ๐ŸŒฝ๐Ÿฅฆ๐ŸŒถ๏ธ Should be a great day but hot. โ˜€

Today will have isolated showers between 1pm and 2pm, then isolated showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 85 degrees at 3pm. Five degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 66 at 11am. Muggy. Calm wind becoming west 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 85 degrees. The record high of 93 was set in 1916.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:59 pm with sun having an altitude of 59ยฐ from the due south horizon (-11.9ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 3.6 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:09 pm with the sun in the west (280ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (287ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:47 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 1 seconds with dusk around 8:15 pm, which is one minute and 35 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon in the west-southwest (246ยฐ) at an altitude of 19ยฐ from the horizon, 226,291 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:53 pm. At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 79 degrees. The dew point will be 64 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 13 hours and 35 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 39 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 62 degrees at 5am. Three degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 65 at 8pm. Light and variable wind. In 2019, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 58 degrees. The record low of 44 occurred back in 1988.

Today in 1971, twenty of the Camden 28 were arrested. โš–๏ธThey were a group of “Catholic left” anti-Vietnam War activists who in 1971 planned and executed a raid on a Camden, New Jersey draft board. ๐Ÿ‘ฎ๐Ÿป The raid resulted in a high-profile criminal trial of the activists that was seen by many as a referendum on the Vietnam War and as an example of successful use of jury nullification. ๐Ÿ›๏ธ

One month ๐Ÿ“… from now will be Autumn ๐Ÿ‚ when the sun will be setting at 6:52 pm with dusk at 7:20 pm. The average high is 7โƒฃ 0โƒฃ degrees. The weather when it changes come autumn always changes quickly. But that’s life. The salt belt will return. ๐ŸŒจ

August 11, 2020 Evening

Good evening! Partly clear and 74 degrees at the Finger Lakes National Forest. ๐ŸŒƒ There is a west breeze at 8 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 65 degrees. The muggy weather ends tomorrow around 10 am. ๐Ÿ˜“

To end the first half of summer vacation ๐Ÿ– I thought things went remarkably well. I spent about six hours at the pool ๐ŸŠ๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ and two paddling the Montour Falls canal. ๐Ÿ›ถ While it was a bit choppy at the end of the day on Seneca Lake for the most part it wasn’t bad. ๐ŸŒŠ A 38 mile lake, even if across its relatively narrow and sat below tall hills is always going to be somewhat rough. Might be even less windy tomorrow – I left the kayak ๐Ÿ›ฅ on the truck and come morning I might decide to do more paddling tomorrow.

That caramel sundae ๐ŸงI got from the Glen Dairy Bar was pretty good today. I will have to get there a few more times before I leave the Finger Lakes for a few more options. It’s fun having good ice cream when you camp. Had more of those sausage paddies with cheese and ketchup on a hard role for dinner. ๐Ÿ” They’re a nice easy treat. I have two more to finish off tomorrow maybe for lunch and then I’ll figure out what is next for camp meals ๐Ÿด.

Tonight will be partly cloudy โ˜๏ธ, with a low of 65 degrees at 6am. Four degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 68 at 8pm. West wind 5 to 8 mph becoming light and variable in the evening. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies. It became somewhat humid as the night progressed. It got down to 56 degrees. The record low of 46 occurred back in 1987.

Tonight will have a Last Quarter ๐ŸŒ— Moon with 46% illuminated. The darkest hour is at 1:13 am, followed by dawn at 5:41 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:12 am in the east-northeast (69ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 6 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 4 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:51 am with sun in the east-northeast (75ยฐ). Tonight will have 9 hours and 58 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 26 seconds over last night.

I hiked back to Foster Pond this evening to watch the percid metriod showers ๐ŸŒ but stayed only for about fifteen minutes when there was what appeared to be a very wild party ๐ŸŽ‰ on the one end of the lake disturbing the solitude. Based on the noise and the late arrivers it seemed like an under age drinking ๐Ÿป party. I wasn’t going to get mixed up with that and honestly myself I wasn’t that sober after having a few drinks with dinner to toast off the day and wash down those sausage paddies. That said, in the brief time I was there I saw two shooting stars and by the time I was heading back it had clouded up.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 85 degrees at 3pm. Four degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 64 at 6am. Northwest wind 3 to 7 mph. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 86 degrees. The record high of 99 was set in 1944.

It should be another nice day tomorrow. โ˜€ I am not going to rush to get going tomorrow though as I need to try to get some more sleep tonight. ๐Ÿ’ค I am thinking about more kayaking tomorrow ๐Ÿ›ถ, maybe off of Hector Park boat launch or maybe the Watkins Glen boat launch and paddling up along the shoreline of Seneca Lake to Hector Point. I don’t think I’ll do more of the Montour Canal – I found it kind of boring and it stunk of raw or partially treated sewage and was kind of green from pollution. I was hoping I could get off the canal to explore Bad Indian Marsh but there wasn’t a lot of navigable streams – I saw only one and it didn’t look very promising. ๐Ÿ›‘

In four weeks on September 8 the sun will be setting in the west (278ยฐ) at 7:29 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 44 minutes and 56 seconds earlier then today. In 2019 on that day, we had partly cloudy and temperatures between 73 and 52 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 75 and 55 degrees. The record high of 94 degrees was set back in 2015.

Looking ahead, September ๐ŸŽ is in 3 weeks, September 11th ๐Ÿ‡ธ is a month away, Autumn ๐Ÿ‚ is in 6 weeks, Election Day 2019 ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ is in 12 weeks, Average High is 50 ๐Ÿ‚ is in 13 weeks, Veterans Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ is in 3 months, Regular Deer Season in Southern Zone ๐ŸฆŒ is in 14 weeks, December ๐ŸŽ„ is in 16 weeks, Bill of Rights Day ๐Ÿ“œ is in 18 weeks, Days are Getting Longer โ˜€๏ธ is in 19 weeks, Cold Moon ๐ŸŒ• is in 20 weeks, National Bird Day ๐Ÿง is in 21 weeks, 5:30 PM Dusk ๐ŸŒ† is in 24 weeks, Ground Hog Day ๐Ÿป is in 25 weeks and Don’t Cry over Spilled Milk Day ๐Ÿฅ› is in 6 months.

 Mohawk River

August 11, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Tuesday. Three weeks to September ๐ŸŽ. Mostly sunny, hazy hot and humid and 83 degrees at the Watkins Glen State Park. There is a south breeze at 8 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 67 degrees. The muggy weather ends tomorrow around 11 am. ๐Ÿ˜“

Going to be another hot day today. Loaded up the kayak on the truck ๐Ÿšš but first I was hoping to spend the morning at the pool – but it looks closed today per the sign. โ›ฑ๏ธIt was very breezy at camp this morning at 1,800 feet but less so at 475 ft at Watkins Glen. Hoping I can get parking at the boat launch – already filling up. ๐Ÿ…ฟ

Last night was pretty hot too. ๐Ÿ”ฅNo campfire last night and I used the fan in my truck cap for most of the night as even up here high on the backbone ๐Ÿ—ป it was quite muggy and uncomfortable. Maybe nothing like a in the city but so be it. I gathered some wood though and tonight I’ll probably have a small fire if only because it’s been a few days.

The muffins ๐Ÿš I got from Walmart yesterday with some cold coffee made for a pretty good breakfast. I also bought cereal ๐Ÿฅฃ yesterday but I’ll save that for a future day. Maybe tomorrow. I wanted a quick and easy breakfast as I wanted to make sure I got to the park ๐Ÿž early so I’d get parking.

Today will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 1pm. Mostly sunny and hot ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 92 degrees at 3pm. 11 degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 67 at 10am. Southwest wind 8 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 80 degrees. The record high of 98 was set in 1944.

Hoping for better weather than yesterday, as it was so hot and humid yesterday morning. ๐Ÿ˜ฐ And then by the time I planned to swim ๐ŸŠ๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ there was that constant line of thunderstorms to the south. That’s why I am not going to hike early in the morning today. I was such a sweaty pig ๐Ÿ–yesterday and I only got five minutes in the pool due to thunderstorms. โ›ˆ

If the pool doesn’t open today, ๐Ÿ›ถ I’ll head down to the boat launch. The water ๐Ÿ’ฆ is relatively calm and will be fine in the canal and if I stick close to shore. If I can’t get parking at the boat launch, I’ll probably get some ice cream at Glen Dairy Bar ๐Ÿง I might than go down to Cayon Point to fish ๐Ÿ  but that was more the plan tomorrow.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 1:14 pm with sun having an altitude of 62.7ยฐ from the due south horizon (-8.2ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 3.1 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:36 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (285ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (292ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:15 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 5 seconds with dusk around 8:44 pm, which is one minute and 23 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:24 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and thunderstorms ๐ŸŒฉ and temperatures around 82 degrees. The dew point will be 68 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 14 hours and 2 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 26 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms before midnight, then a slight chance of showers. Partly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 65 degrees at 5am. Four degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 68 at 8pm. Light and variable wind. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies. It became somewhat humid as the night progressed. It got down to 56 degrees. The record low of 46 occurred back in 1987.

A picture perfect weekend on tap. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Saturday, a chance of showers after 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 84. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Maximum dew point of 64 at 8am. Sunday, a chance of showers. Mostly sunny, with a high near 81. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Maximum dew point of 61 at 7am. Typical average high for the weekend is 81 degrees.

One of the worst things about being in the Finger Lakes is the winos ๐Ÿท who are more preoccupied with finding the next winery to taste and they’re driving ๐Ÿš˜ slow and irregularly after doing tastings all day. They drive 25 mph in a 55 mph and slam on their brakes when they see a sign ๐Ÿ›‘ for the next watering hole ๐Ÿ•ณ. Almost slammed into one of them today.

Seneca County is infamous for the state’s highest fatality rate from DWI, drunk driving is a serious problem in wine country ๐Ÿคช although that’s not something that the economic development people like to talk about. I like taking 414 as it’s fast and doesn’t have any speed traps or small towns but the slow moving drivers who slam on their brakes when they see the next watering hole on the road is so obnoxious. ๐Ÿ’ฅ

As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until September ๐ŸŽ when the sun will be setting at 7:41 pm with dusk at 8:09 pm. On that day in 2019, we had partly sunny skies with q few rain showers and temperatures between 75 and 51 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 77 degrees. We hit a record high of 96 back in 1953.

August 10, 2020 Evening

Good evening! Partly cloudy โ˜๏ธand 79 degrees at the Finger Lakes National Forest. ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒณ There is a south-southwest breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 68 degrees. The muggy weather ends Wednesday around 7 pm. ๐Ÿ˜“

I don’t think I would describe today as bad day, ๐Ÿ˜’but things didn’t quite go exactly to plan. While I did get a shower ๐Ÿšฟ in and about five minutes of swimming โšก it wasn’t the full day of swimming ๐ŸŠ๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ I had planned. I was prepared for thunderstorms โ›ˆ in the evening but not the countless rumbles of thunder after 2 pm. I guess I can’t complain about the rain much – I didn’t get wet until very briefly at Clute Park ๐Ÿ’ง and I was dry by the time I got back to camp.

I like the Watkins Glen State Park pool ๐ŸŠ๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ a lot but this year is like no other. During the pandemic we are all living through I was really freaked out by the crowds at the entrance and the pool. ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘งโ€๐Ÿ‘ง While I’ve never been a real people person, crowds are scary during a pandemic. ๐Ÿ‘พEven parts of the trail – until I got west of the trail were kind of scary with the crowds. I tried to maintain my social distance and flip the mask over my face ๐Ÿ˜ท but sometimes it’s just scary. I want to enjoy my vacation in these most scary times, but I also don’t want to end up on a ventilator choking for life, all alone in a hospital ๐Ÿฅ.

I couldn’t get goggles anywhere in Watkins Glen ๐Ÿ‘€ so I guess I will have to do without. Hopefully my eyes won’t get too irritated from the pool chlorine. ๐Ÿ‘๏ธ That said after today’s experience I don’t expect to be spend a lot more time in the parks although I do like a good shower ๐Ÿšฟ or swim ๐ŸŠ๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ while camping. I thought a Monday at the parks in August would be a heck of a lot quieter. It seems like everybody is craving outdoor recreation during the pandemic. ๐Ÿž Or maybe it’s just I notice people and crowds a lot more during the pandemic. ๐Ÿ˜ท I can wear a mask and wash my hands ๐Ÿ‘ good bit there is only so much I can do.

Glen Dairy Bar was good ๐Ÿฅค, ultimately I decided on a strawberry ๐Ÿ“ slushy over ice cream. No complaints there, I could taste the pieces of strawberry in it. I am sure I’ll be back for more tomorrow. Thinking ice cream tomorrow. That banana ๐ŸŒ sundae I saw somebody have looked amazing. Of course with social distancing these days the lines look much larger but they were busy too with the hot weather. ๐Ÿจ๐Ÿง๐Ÿฆ

Sat down by Seneca Lake for a while ๐Ÿผ/strong>๒Žฑกnd it was quite pleasant but a fair number of people around. Started to walk along the shoreline and the sky just opened up and started to pour. ๐ŸŒง๏ธ Ran back to my truck and by the time I got to Bennettsville the sky was clear. โ˜€ Go figure. It looks like they got pounded with rain just north of Elmira today. I wonder if there was flooding or storm damage down that way ?

Made up hot sausage paddy burgers ๐Ÿ” with American cheese which when the bun is well toasted and with some ketchup is quite the treat. I often also put red sauce on the patties but not this time as I decided to bring only one cooler so I have limited space for cold stuff. I actually like them better than beef burgers ๐Ÿฅฉ but don’t tell a cow that. I also had a couple of beers ๐Ÿปto wash the day away.

I normally bring too coolers but last minute on Saturday I decided to leave one home to save space. ๐Ÿ—ƒ I am already regretting that decision as it limits meal choices. ๐Ÿด In the early spring or late fall one cooler is fine but this time of year I like to have two so I can store both cold and cool foods. But I get tired of always buying so much ice and having to move and clean with two coolers all the time. โ„ Ice takes up a lot of space but true automotive refrigerators use a lot of electricity expensive and aren’t real energy efficient. โšก

Tomorrow planning on another early start, ๐ŸŒ… I think first heading for a good swim ๐ŸŠ๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ at the Watkins Glen State Park Pool then paddling from the new boat ๐Ÿ›ฅ launch just east of Clute Park. Lake was very placid today and I expect the same tomorrow but I’m more concerned about thunderstorms tomorrow. โ›ˆ I got some nice muffins to have with my coffee โ˜• tomorrow morning.

Heading to bed ๐Ÿ› early so I can get up early. Between the clouds ๐ŸŒฅ and the fact I was tired ๐Ÿ˜ด decided against a hike to Foster Pond tonight. Still a ton of people camping up there tonight. I came out here a large part for that great pool I’ll be disappointed if I can’t have some good fun in the sun tomorrow.
