April 28, 2020 Night

Good evening! Partly clear and 52 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a north breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Nice evening, sat out back for a while. Evening ๐ŸŒƒ walk was full of moonlight and stars.

A few random things going on at work today ๐Ÿ’ผ but relatively quiet for most of the day. I went out to Five Rivers Environmental Education Center for a walk ๐Ÿธ and the internet. I was super annoyed that I couldn’t upload my Coronavirus map the normal way to the blog – an issue I’m going to research and figure out tomorrow.

I continued to work on my comments and analysis for Save the Pine Bush regarding the development of the apartment complex in the Pine Bush. ๐ŸŒฒLots of rendering maps and studying data. I may also do some interviews for additional background.

Pulled another fully engorged tick ๐Ÿœoff my arm this evening ๐Ÿ™‹, after I noticed my arm was stinging. I am guessing that I have Lyme disease again but I’ll wait for a bulls eye rash to appear. I did feel a bit achy today so I’m sure that’s what I got. ๐ŸŽฏI should have checked more carefully after hiking back through the brush on Saturday at Partridge Run. ๐ŸŒฒ I’ll have to figure out the telemedicine thing which sucks as I don’t have internet at home but I can probably take pictures and go to the library to get Wi-Fi if necessary. I guess the first step is to call ๐Ÿ“ž the nurse line if I am sure I have Lyme. Doxycline is $5 and approved telemedicine is free ๐Ÿ†“ during Coronavirus but I just hope that I don’t get super sick from Lyme. ๐Ÿ˜ท

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 38 degrees at 5am. Four degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 18th. North wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. In 2019, we had clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 31 degrees. The record low of 27 occurred back in 1947.

Tonight will have a Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon with 32% illuminated. At 10 PM, the moon was in the west (271ยฐ) at an altitude of 36ยฐ from the horizon, some 236,130 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. ๐Ÿš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by October 24th. Buckle up for safety! ๐Ÿ’บYou don’t want to go to the hospital ๐Ÿฅ during a pandemic due to an aborted mission to space. Click it or ticket ๐ŸŽซ from the space cops. ๐Ÿ‘ฎ I bet social distancing is hard in zero gravity. The Flower ๐ŸŒท Moon is on Thursday, May 7. The darkest hour is at 12:54 am, followed by dawn at 5:24 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:54 am in the east-northeast (70ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 6 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 25 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:33 am with sun in the east-northeast (76ยฐ). Tonight will have 9 hours and 59 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 32 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have a slight chance of showers after 1pm. Increasing clouds โ›… with a high of 56 degrees at 1pm. Eight degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 11th. Light southeast wind becoming south 8 to 13 mph in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 23 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 58 degrees. The record high of 88 was set in 1888. 1 inch of snow fell back in 1885.โ„

Not a real wash out tomorrow ๐Ÿ’ฆbut the heavy rain comes Thursday into Friday – probably multiple inches of good soaking rain. โ˜” Rain is a good thing. While we’ve had a lot of dreary days in April with some showers things are still quite dry as we go into May and a good soaker would be a good thing. I am a bit concerned about how though it will infringe on my weekend plans – right now the rain looks to continue into Friday night into Saturday. Maybe it won’t be a good weekend to get away? A lot depends on this tick bite and if it develops into full blown Lyme. I should have checked more carefully last weekend.

In four weeks on May 26 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (300ยฐ) at 8:21 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 29 minutes and 17 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 86 and 57 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 72 and 50 degrees. The record high of 94 degrees was set back in 2010.

Looking ahead, Cinco de Mayo ๐Ÿค  is in 1 week, Primary Day ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ is in 8 weeks, Election Day 2020 ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ is in 27 weeks and Election Day 2020 ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ is in 27 weeks.

April 27, 2020 Night

Good evening! Light rain and 42 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜” There is a north breeze at 11 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Been a lot of clouds and drizzle but I’m not sure if it’s enough to break the rain deficit we’ve been having lately.

Today was a pretty quiet day working from home. ๐Ÿ’ป Honestly not a lot going on but I ran some reports on the work computer and there was no Monday meeting today. I spent too much time on my bed reading ๐Ÿ“– random articles about Coronavirus and what people think might happen in various what if scenarios. I think it’s good states are experimenting and that will hopefully give us a better idea ๐Ÿ’ก on how soon life can return to some kind of normalcy.

I went out for my evening ๐Ÿšถ in the rain. It was modestly wet but not that bad. I just needed to stretch my legs and my exercise bike has a broken foot pedal so I’ve not been able to ride that. ๐Ÿšฒ I should figure out if I can somehow fix the stripped threads. Tomorrow though I should be able spend most of the day outside and maybe do some hiking for a while at Five Rivers after work – or maybe an evening hike up Bennett Hill.

Continuing to work on figuring out what tent ๐ŸŽช would be best for using over my picnic table for camping during black fly season. That said with so many things closed that weekend I might be better to plan a three day trip either the weekend before or after to avoid crowding. I’m sure with campgrounds closed through June 1st more will pile into the back country. But I haven’t taken any time off from work in weeks so I think I certainly could take a long weekend or two during May, remembering a lot of “developed” camping areas for camping in Central NY are closed. Assorted back country sites aren’t but they’re fewer in Central NY. โ›บ Honestly what looked quite nice for the first weekend of May is starting to slide down hill and

Tonight will have showers likely, mainly before midnight. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 35 degrees at 5am. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 10th. North wind 7 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2019, we had clear skies in the evening, which became light rain by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 40 degrees. The record low of 25 occurred back in 1947.

Tonight will have a Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon with 22% illuminated. At 8 PM, the moon was in the west (260ยฐ) at an altitude of 47ยฐ from the horizon, some 239,308 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. ๐Ÿš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by October 26th. Buckle up for safety! ๐Ÿ’บ The Flower ๐ŸŒท Moon is on Thursday, May 7. The darkest hour is at 12:54 am, followed by dawn at 5:25 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:56 am in the east-northeast (70ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 5 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 27 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:34 am with sun in the east-northeast (77ยฐ). Tonight will have 10 hours and one minute of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 33 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 61 degrees at 4pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 22nd. North wind around 6 mph. Maybe a few degrees below normal but at least sunny and not cold. A year ago, we had sunny skies in the morning with sunny skies in the afternoon. The high last year was 51 degrees. The record high of 92 was set in 1990. There was a dusting of snow in 1966.โ„

Definitely want to spend as much time as possible outside tomorrow whether sitting out back or down at Five Rivers working. โ˜€ Depending on how busy I am, I could go down to the Hudson River with a fishing pole and my work laptop and work there. Watch the big boats go up the river. ๐Ÿšข Probably nice and green down there too and there’s that preserve to explore down that way.

In four weeks on May 25 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (300ยฐ) at 8:20 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 29 minutes and 31 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had mostly sunny skies with patches of fog in the morning and temperatures between 73 and 46 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 72 and 50 degrees. The record high of 94 degrees was set back in 1981.

Looking ahead, 8 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ‡ is in 1 week, Flower Moon ๐ŸŒ• is in 3 weeks, Memorial Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ is in 4 weeks, June ๐Ÿน is in 5 weeks and Average High is 80 ๐Ÿ– is in 8 weeks.

April 26, 2020 Night

Good evening! Heavy rain and 40 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜” There is a north-northeast breeze at 13 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. No snow here but I heard they’ve gotten a half foot already in Summit in Schoharie County up where I like to camp in Schoharie County. The skies will clear Tuesday around 4 am.

Today was rather cold and rainy โ˜” so I stayed home and did some cleaning ๐Ÿšฟ and then went to the car wash and cleaned the salt off Big Red, ๐Ÿš˜ went to Walmart (out of socks!) ๐Ÿ‘˜and gased up the truck. โ›ฝ I’d like to get back to the Adirondacks this weekend for camping โ›บ and fishing ๐ŸŽฃ but it depends a lot on the weather. Might still be snow up north – all week is expected to be quite cold and rainy with a few exceptions.

I still think it wouldn’t have been a good week for camping โ›บ with the rain today โ˜” plus besides my hikes on Saturday I had other things that kept me busy this weekend. It was nice walking at Partridge Run but some of the places I hiked were crowded ๐Ÿ‘ช when normally when I go up there I don’t see any one at all most times. Maybe I just picked a bad route to hike but it also was an extraordinary nice day except for the bugs which despite the DEET were atrocious. ๐ŸœI’m surprised that they were so bad when it was quite dry up there from the leaf litter to the low flow on most of the seasonal creeks and even in the Switz Kill.

That said, no risk of snow or ice locally. We will be well above freezing. Tonight will rain. ๐ŸŒง Low of 38 degrees at 10pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 18th. North wind 11 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. Hopefully more rain or snow out in the hilltowns – really dry out that way. In 2019, we had light rain in the evening, which became clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 40 degrees. The record low of 26 occurred back in 1963.

Tonight will have a Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon with 14% illuminated. At 8 PM, the moon was in the west (269ยฐ) at an altitude of 36ยฐ from the horizon, some 242,245 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. ๐Ÿš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by October 27th. Buckle up for safety! ๐Ÿ’บ The moon will set in the west-northwest (302ยฐ) at 11:34 pm. The Flower ๐ŸŒท Moon is on Thursday, May 7. The darkest hour is at 12:54 am, followed by dawn at 5:27 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:57 am in the east-northeast (71ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 4 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 27 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:36 am with sun in the east-northeast (77ยฐ). Tonight will have 10 hours and 4 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 35 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will rain some more and be quite cold. ๐Ÿ’ฆ But fortunately no snow locally. Otherwise, cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a high of 48 degrees at 1pm. 15 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 25th. North wind around 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. Farmers are planting in the Genesee Valley already, so they certainly don’t want frost. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 50 degrees. The record high of 91 was set in 1962. There was a dusting of snow in 1946.โ„

Between wearing the bandana over the face ๐Ÿ˜ท to product shortages to the nuts around social distancing, shopping is so miserable these days. I find it hard to see and hot under the bandana a little bit Walmart. I thought I would be in Walmart at a low traffic time around six o’clock on Sunday evening but I was wrong. I probably would have gone somewhere besides Walmart but I was hoping to get socks and a shower curtain, the prior which was no in stock. My socks are wearing out, I may have to order online. Hopefully it won’t take Walmart two weeks to ship ๐Ÿ“ฆ like it did with the boots ๐Ÿ‘ข.

That said, I’m quite happy with the lower fuel prices โ›ฝ but I’m sure they won’t last. But it’s so freaky about touching everything these days and then spraying rubbing alcohol everywhere until you skin cracks and bleeds. โญ•And then getting home and rushing to the sink. I do miss the old routines a lot and look forward to once again putting the suit and tie on and going down to work on the bus ๐Ÿš everyday. And hopefully the Coronavirus Uncle Police ๐Ÿšจ will crawl back down their rat ๐Ÿ€ holes and leave us alone again. I’m still not convinced that much of this all isn’t super political in the presidential election of the geriatrics, not that the candidates were spring chickens ๐Ÿ” in 2016.

In four weeks on May 24 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (300ยฐ) at 8:20 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 29 minutes and 45 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had partly cloudy and temperatures between 70 and 52 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 72 and 50 degrees. The record high of 92 degrees was set back in 1964.

Looking ahead, Mothers Day ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€ is in 2 weeks, Pack Rat Day ๐Ÿ€ is in 3 weeks, Strawberry Moon ๐ŸŒ• is in 6 weeks and Fathers Day ๐Ÿ‘จ is in 7 weeks.

April 24, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Yeah, it’s Friday! Next Friday is May 1st. Been such a cold spring it’s hard to imagine that next week is May. It’s only just starting to green up in Albany. ๐ŸŒธ Rain and 41 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜” There is a north breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. 0.14 inches of rain is expected before it ends around 4 pm. Not a lot of rain predicted and Saturday will be nice.

Coffee โ˜• and wild berry muffins this morning for breakfast. Also cream cheese. It was a pretty decent breakfast not as heavy or labor intensive as making eggs ๐Ÿณ like I did yesterday. No birds ๐Ÿฆ out the window to give the middle finger too. I do get a laugh ๐Ÿ˜‚ out of giving the bird to the birds. I’m sure my neighbors think I’m nuts.

Wish it was nicer out but I really shouldn’t complain much ๐ŸŒป– I am sure hot and humid days are right around the corner. It will kind of suck this year if state park swimming ๐ŸŠ pools are closed because of Coronavirus.

Today will rain likely, mainly before noon. Cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a high of 53 degrees at 4pm. Nine degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 4th. North wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. A year ago, we had cloudy skies. The high last year was 61 degrees. The record high of 81 was set in 2001. 1.2 inches of snow fell back in 1967.โ„

Kind of a dreary day for sure. ๐Ÿ’ฆ April Showers bring May flowers although they’ll be no tulip festival ๐ŸŒท this year not that I ever went to that except for tabling for Save the Pine Bush a few years ago. But it’s nice when things green up except of course for the black flies.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:54 pm with sun having an altitude of 60.4ยฐ from the due south horizon (-10.4ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 3.4 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:10 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (282ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (289ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:48 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 4 seconds with dusk around 8:18 pm, which is one minute and 9 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon in the west-northwest (282ยฐ) at an altitude of 11ยฐ from the horizon, 247,483 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:55 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 49 degrees. There will be a north-northwest breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 13 hours and 49 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 38 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 36 degrees at 4am. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 12th. Northwest wind 3 to 5 mph. In 2019, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 38 degrees. The record low of 23 occurred back in 1965.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 63 degrees at 4pm. Typical for tomorrow. Light and variable wind. A year ago, we had cloudy skies. The high last year was 66 degrees. The record high of 89 was set in 2009. 0.3 inches of snow fell back in 1928.โ„

Sounds like a remarkably nice spring day. โ˜€ I have to get early up tomorrow but I should have most of the day to enjoy spending in the woods. ๐ŸŒฟ I’m thinking about hiking in the afternoon and maybe hammock camping โ›บ in a state forest, although it might be a bit chilly and wet by morning. I think the rain is coming early come Sunday.

Looking ahead to Sunday, rain likely. Cloudy, with a high near 52. East wind 3 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. Typical average high for the weekend is 63 degrees. ๐Ÿ’ฆ Definitely going to be a real dreary day. I’m going to have to get some more videos to watch from the library Wi-Fi and some more data to make up maps.

Paid my rent or actually the bank did ๐Ÿฆ as next week is May. Hopefully enough of my neighbors are too and my landlord isn’t going bankrupt. ๐Ÿก He does have a nice house over the river but who knows what his cash flow situation is like. I know a lot of out of work people aren’t paying rent. I also had to cancel the double bill for my car insurance – they kindly sent me a second bill for the time period with a later deadline and a reduced payment – but it meant that I cancel that from auto bill pay as I had already paid my bill for the next six months. ๐Ÿ’ต

I am still waiting on my stimulus check to arrive ๐Ÿ’ฐ but because I didn’t owe or get anything refunded from the federal government this year, I don’t think they have my information on file and the last I checked their website wasn’t working. I was hoping it would come sooner rather than later so I could use it partially to buy index ๐Ÿ“‡ funds when the market is still cheap. I’m young I’m not phased much about the sluggish performance of the market lately. I do think at some point Coronavirus will kill who it’s going to kill (hopefully not me or loved ones) and then we’ll move forward. Ten years from now I expect the markets to be a lot stronger and then I can buy land. ๐Ÿšœ

As previously noted, next Friday is May 1st ๐Ÿ•Š when the sun will be setting at 7:55 pm with dusk at 8:26 pm. On that day in 2019, we had cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 56 and 42 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 65 degrees. We hit a record high of 86 back in 2001.

 Cat Tails

April 21, 2020 Night

Good evening! Partly clear and 36 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a west-northwest breeze at 15 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. At times though, it’s been pretty windy. Temperatures will drop below freezing at midnight. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

I worked at home today ๐Ÿก and it was a pretty busy day although the mobile internet super flaky. ๐Ÿ“ถI try to avoid using the work bandwidth as much as possible but it would not have been a nice day to work at Five Rivers or the library. Plus if I use my work laptop rather than my personal one, I don’t have to worry about formatting issues in Microsoft Word. ๐Ÿ“

This evening ๐ŸŒƒ it was pasta for dinner. ๐Ÿฒ Tomorrow I may go to Wally World and the Car Wash with the bandana over my face. Rained hard midday but that doesn’t clean the undercarriage of Big Red ๐Ÿš˜ plus it’s been a week since my last big grocery shop and I’m a bit low on food. I thought some more about camping this weekend but I just was up north last weekend and I think I’ll wait another week or two for things to warm up and get greener. ๐ŸŒฟ๐ŸŒฑ๐ŸŒทI guess if it’s a nice enough evening and not super cold I could sit down by the river and work with a fishing pole ๐ŸŽฃ in one hand tomorrow.

Never showered or shaved ๐Ÿšฟ today as there was no Zoom Meeting ๐Ÿ“น or reason to look nice for the world. ๐ŸŒŽ It was cold out at first for my evening walk ๐Ÿšถ but once I got burning calories I didn’t feel real cold. That wind at times though sure is intense.

I do miss the library not being open for having the kiosks inside to quietly work on my laptop. ๐Ÿ“š While working in my truck on the blog is fine, I used to really enjoy having a block of time at the library to work on my blog using my laptop. ๐Ÿ’ป I know eventually though we will get through the pandemic and the library will reopen but I hate how there is no time line. I just want this to be over, go back to work, ride the bus every day ๐Ÿš and enjoy life in the basement office. ๐Ÿข Some of the protests may be obnoxious but so many of us crave normalcy and our freedoms restored.

Tonight will have a slight chance of snow showers after 1am. Partly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 28 degrees at 6am. 12 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 23rd. West wind around 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2019, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 51 degrees. The record low of 20 occurred back in 1947.

Tonight will have a New ๐ŸŒš Moon with 1% illuminated. The Flower ๐ŸŒท Moon is on Thursday, May 7. The darkest hour is at 12:55 am, followed by dawn at 5:35 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:05 am in the east-northeast (73ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 2 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 32 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:43 am with sun in the east (79ยฐ). Tonight will have 10 hours and 17 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 39 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be partly sunny, then gradually becoming sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 45 degrees at 4pm. 16 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 18th. Breezy, with a west wind 20 to 23 mph, with gusts as high as 39 mph. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 74 degrees. The record high of 86 was set in 1985. 1 inch of snow fell back in 1928.โ„

Sounds like it will be miserably cold with the wind for Earth Day ๐ŸŒŽ. But hopefully the sun will be nice for a while although I expect more clouds on Thursday into Friday. โ˜ Just a late spring this year, the werid year of Coronavirus. Eventually the jet steam will push north and it will be like 80 or 90 degrees every day. I’ve heard it’s been that way already down in Missouri, at least on the Farm and Hammer ๐Ÿ”จ cattle farmer channel I like on the YouTube ๐Ÿฎ.

In four weeks on May 19 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (298ยฐ) at 8:15 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 30 minutes and 38 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had mostly sunny, rain showers and temperatures between 86 and 49 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 70 and 48 degrees. The record high of 91 degrees was set back in 1989.

Looking ahead, Cinco de Mayo ๐Ÿค  is in 2 weeks, Primary Day ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ is in 9 weeks, and Election Day 2020 ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ is in 28 weeks.

 Pattern

April 20, 2020 Night

Good evening! Clear and 40 degrees in Delmar, NY. Calm wind. Temperatures will drop below freezing at Wednesday around midnight. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Not a terribly cold evening ๐ŸŒƒ but a bit chilly for mid to late April. Lots of stars โœจ out b ack but alas after a while it felt cool. Went for my evening walk ๐Ÿšถ which was pretty quiet. Tuna fish ๐Ÿ  salad that I made up for dinner in a wrap. ๐Ÿฅ

Ended up going to Five Rivers Environmental Education Center this afternoon ๐Ÿธ because it was a beautiful afternoon although a bit chilly for most of the day. The Wi-Fi is much quicker than the mobile card on my work laptop and more reliable as it kept dropping out today. ๐Ÿ“ถ Despite living in the suburbs sometimes my phone service ๐Ÿ“ฑ is funky here. Probably too many people using too little data with everyone home during Coronavirus. But also working on the free wifi meant that I didn’t have to careful watch my bandwidth and I could have personal social media and my blog up while I worked, upload photos ๐Ÿ“ท and download videos for later watching.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 35 degrees at 5am. Four degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 10th. Calm wind. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 52 degrees. The record low of 20 occurred back in 1875.

Tonight will have a Waining Crescent ๐ŸŒ˜ Moon with 3% illuminated. The darkest hour is at 12:55 am, followed by dawn at 5:36 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:06 am in the east-northeast (73ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 2 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 33 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:44 am with sun in the east (80ยฐ). Tonight will have 10 hours and 19 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 41 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have showers and possibly a thunderstorm, mainly before 4pm, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 4pm. Some of the storms could produce small hail and gusty winds. ๐ŸŒฆ High of 51 degrees at 11am. 10 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 31st. Maximum dew point of 42 at 1pm. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ South wind 10 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 72 degrees. The record high of 89 was set in 1923. 0.6 inches of snow fell back in 1947.โ„

Doesn’t seem really nice tomorrow. ๐Ÿšฟ I am however thinking about going to the car wash to clean off Big Red which has some salt on him and it’s been a while since he’s been washed. ๐Ÿš˜ I checked and the car wash is still open as an Essential Business. There are a few things that I need that I should pick up at Walmart while I’m out but I’m thinking I should wait until I have a full list ๐Ÿ“ƒ as every time you go out in public you risk getting Coronavirus. And that shit is real, and can make folks my age get really sick and not city folk alone. ๐Ÿšœ

In four weeks on May 18 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (298ยฐ) at 8:14 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 30 minutes and 46 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had partly cloudy and temperatures between 73 and 46 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 70 and 48 degrees. The record high of 94 degrees was set back in 2017.

Looking ahead, Arbor Day ๐ŸŒณ is in 1 week, 8 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ‡ is in 2 weeks, Flower Moon ๐ŸŒ• is in 4 weeks, Memorial Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ is in 5 weeks, June ๐Ÿน is in 6 weeks, Last Day of Session ๐Ÿ› is in 2 months, Summer ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ is in 2 months, Average High is 80 ๐Ÿ– is in 9 weeks and Inauguration Day 2021 ๐Ÿ‘ด๐Ÿป is in 9 months.

Camel Hump

April 16, 2020 Night

Good evening! Cloudy and 36 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ There is a west breeze at 8 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 1 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Today was another real quiet day at work, ๐Ÿ“น the Zoom meeting was called off so I didn’t shower until midday. ๐Ÿšฟ All day I’ve had some diaherea ๐Ÿ’ฉ and I have had to spend more time on the toilet ๐Ÿšฝ then I would like to admit. At least working from home didn’t have to take a sick day.

Got my gear out and ready for camping โ›บ. Not planning a big trip, just a few days away to enjoy some quiet. I’m disabling my cellphone ๐Ÿ“ฑ and I’m leaving the radio ๐Ÿ“ป home as I’m tired ๐Ÿ˜ด of hearing non stop Coronavirus coverage. Truth be told, next weekend looks better โ˜€ than this one but it could change before then and who knows the way things are going there might be travel restrictions by then. โ›” I’m hoping not, and I might even do a long weekend next week if it’s nice enough. I’m tired ๐Ÿ˜ด of being in my moldy apartment so much.

This evening I went to the store got beer, motor oil, money ๐Ÿ’ต and a few other supplies that I couldn’t get at Aldi. All of Walmart was open, they had queues at the doors but they weren’t open. Dropped the paper ๐Ÿ“„ and old clothes and boots off at the recycling center at the park and ride โ™ป. Checked the fluids, topped off the oil and did a quick visual inspection of the belts and suspension and solar system wiring. Still need to get milk ๐Ÿฎ and air up the tires in Red, that’s better to do when the tires are cold in the morning.

Most every thing is packed except for my personal gear like the toothbrush, pots and pans ๐Ÿณ I need for breakfast and the guns I didn’t want to leave overnight in the truck. If I camp where I plan there is a good backstop for shooting. ๐Ÿ”ซ Everything is closed down here – hard to practice. I also updated my fishing license ๐ŸŽฃ and I have the PDF on my phone if I get asked for it.

Spent some time cleaning in the kitchen ๐Ÿšฟ treating the cabinets for mold and scrubbing down the counters so things won’t be so gross when I get home. One of these days it’s going to get hot โ™จ and it will be important to have things as mold free as possible before the humanity peaks. Once the windows are open I’ll repaint the refrigerator which is rusty again.

It seems cleaning good with bleach kills off any RNA of Coronavirus I might have accidentally tracked in. ๐Ÿ‘พ Somehow reading ๐Ÿ“– about that 39 year old farmer in Cansastota who is fighting for his life on a ventalator๐Ÿšœ makes it a lot more real to me. Caronavirus is remarkably bad and spreading fast with farm families who are struggling a lot already. That said, closing the boat launches ๐Ÿšค and other activities seems silly and over the top. At least the Glenmont Car Wash is open so I can wash the salt off my truck after I get back – I checked tonight. ๐Ÿ‘

Tonight will have isolated snow showers before midnight. Mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 30 degrees at 4am. Eight degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 28th. West wind 6 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2019, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 32 degrees. The record low of 21 occurred back in 1971.

Tonight will have a Waining Crescent ๐ŸŒ˜ Moon with 29% illuminated. The darkest hour is at 12:56 am, followed by dawn at 5:43 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:12 am in the east-northeast (75ยฐ) and last for 2 minutes and 59 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 36 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:50 am with sun in the east (82ยฐ). Tonight will have 10 hours and 30 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 44 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have increasing clouds โ˜, with a high of 48 degrees at 2pm. 11 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 25th. West wind 7 to 10 mph. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 62 degrees. The record high of 91 was set in 2002. 0.3 inches of snow fell back in 1965.โ„ Albany might break that record tomorrow depending on when the snow starts tomorrow night and if we get any tonight.

I think where I will be there won’t be a lot of snow โ›„, maybe a dusting come morning but I brought the snow shovel to be safe. The NOAA snow map shows none up there now but I wouldn’t be surprised to see a dusting when I get up there. Even if we get some the sun will make it disappear by morning most likely.

I have work until five o’clock, but maybe if the work load is light I’ll leave early and I can always work on it up at camp on Saturday. โ›บ I want to get set up fairly early as even though the days are longer now its not summer yet by any means. Supposedly it will clear by afternoon. And I’m just thinking a short leg stretcher hike on Saturday with a longer one on Sunday night where hopefully I won’t see another person. ๐Ÿšถ If I do social distancing won’t be hard.

I didn’t get my stimulus check ๐Ÿ’ต because I didn’t owe or getting anything back from the federal government this year. So I have to give them my bank information. ๐Ÿ”ข Unlike owing the state. I’ll have to do that at some point. I’m going to split it between index ๐Ÿ“‡ funds and my higher interest savings account and not touch the money for a while. I think there a lot of potential eventually for good market growth. I don’t see myself getting out of New York for at least a few more years.

In four weeks on May 14 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (297ยฐ) at 8:10 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 31 minutes and 13 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had rain showers, cold weather partly cloudy skies later and temperatures between 48 and 40 degrees. Probably one of the coldest mid May day on record. Typically, you have temperatures between 69 and 46 degrees. The record high of 93 degrees was set back in 1900.

By then, hopefully the Coronavirus shutdown will be over ๐Ÿ‘พ but if not my hope is that it will be at least nice enough to work outside all day or even sit out at Five Rivers with the laptop or the library in a comfortable lawn chair. ๐Ÿ’บ Folks are already getting itchy about the shutdown and if the political winds shift and other states reopen they’ll be a lot of pressure to reboot things. ๐Ÿš Honestly, at that point I might still be a bit nervous about riding the bus or waiting at a busy bus stop ๐Ÿšdowntown but I am getting a bit better at washing my hands ๐Ÿ‘and getting used to wearing the bandana over my face. ๐Ÿ˜ท

Looking ahead, Flower Moon ๐ŸŒ• is in 3 weeks and Average High is 70 ๐Ÿฎ is a month away.
