August 9, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Sunday. Six weeks to Average High 70 ๐ŸŽ‘ . Sunny and 71 degrees at the Finger Lakes National Forest. Tree๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒž Calm wind. The dew point is 64 degrees.

Went for a walk ๐Ÿšถ again this morning on the Interlaken Trail and to Foster Pond. Definitely a nice morning, ๐ŸŒž lots of sun and wildflowers. ๐ŸŒปHad a nice pan of corned beef hash and cheese for breakfast. ๐Ÿณ Some eggs ๐Ÿฅš would be nice but I’ll have to get them today.

Wildflowers are definitely better this time of year ๐ŸŒป๐ŸŒผ๐Ÿฆ‹๐Ÿ compared to earlier in the summer when I often take my vacation. It just makes my vacation a little more enjoyable seeing the road sides in bloom, the butterflies and bees. And yes, all that field corn ๐ŸŒฝ is getting tall.

Been quite busy up here ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ง, with so many things closed during the pandemic based on the number of cars ๐Ÿš˜ I’ve seen on the road. Fortunately, my campsite is quite remote and quiet ๐Ÿคซ so nobody is bothering me. Seen more equestrians ๐Ÿด than normal – in part because the Upper Assembly Area is closed at Sugar Hill. ๐Ÿ”

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 82 degrees at 4pm. Typical for today. Maximum dew point of 66 at 6pm. Light and variable wind becoming west 5 to 8 mph in the morning. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 81 degrees. The record high of 96 was set in 2001.

Kind of breezy up here on the backbone ๐Ÿ—ป but I’m hoping the breeze will die down later and I can get out on Seneca Lake and the Montour Canal later. ๐Ÿ›ถ I’m excited about all the wildlife I might see there. ๐Ÿฆ๐Ÿฆ†๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ๐Ÿธ๐Ÿข๐ŸฆŽ๐ŸŸ I just don’t want to go on Seneca Lake if it’s at all breezy ๐Ÿšฃ๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ because it’s a big lake and can be very choppy. ๐ŸŒŠ

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 1:13 pm with sun having an altitude of 63.1ยฐ from the due south horizon (-7.6ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 3 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:38 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (286ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (292ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:17 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 8 seconds with dusk around 8:46 pm, which is one minute and 21 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:26 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 77 degrees. The dew point will be 67 degrees. There will be a west breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 8 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 25 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 68 degrees at 5am. Seven degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 67 at 7pm. Southwest wind 3 to 5 mph. In 2019, we had light rain in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 57 degrees. The record low of 48 occurred back in 1955.

Been reading ๐Ÿ“– more of the Real Goods Solar Living Handbook. Half marketing catalog, half pseudo green living for rich folk, it sure seems like it’s gotten real dated fast. ๐ŸŒŽ Still an interesting read even if it’s more ideological and about marketing over-priced organic crap and green products for the landfill ๐Ÿ—‘ then practical realities of providing for one’s self and obeying the laws of nature.

I was noticing how much of the forest along Potomac Road was ash trees. ๐ŸŒณIt’s only a matter of time before much of the forest is going to be dying than gone. I see they have an Emerald Ash Boerer trap on the road to detect the invaders but I doubt they’ll treat all of the trees. Already as little as 50 miles south of here in Wellsboro you can see the devestation of the forests from EAB. ๐Ÿ› Forests are always in a state of decline – thats entropy – but they’re always changing with the land and introduced species.

One week from now I’ll be taking down camp and heading back to Albany. ๐Ÿก Or at least heading closer to that direction. But there is a lot more reading ๐Ÿ“–, hiking ๐Ÿšถ and paddling to do before then. Vacation really is just beginning – today is my first full day in the Finger Lakes.

I am still thinking I want to go the way I came ๐Ÿค” although I would want to avoid that rough seasonal use only road. If it’s really nice a week from Sunday I might overnight at Cherry Ridge ๐Ÿ’ and then head back home through Madison County. I like seeing the rough dairy country. ๐Ÿฎ The hills, the cows, the rundown shacks and hollows. ๐Ÿ—ป

I really like the wild country ๐Ÿ and wish I could live out here full time. Somehow I like it even better than the Adirondacks. Redneck country life is fun, even if at times it’s dirty and smelly. ๐Ÿ’ฉ But alas I’m making good money at my job ๐Ÿ’ต and are able to save a lot of it for a better tomorrow. It’s nice having some professional success in life and knowing it will lead to a better tomorrow, especially as I try to live frugally as possible. Some days I’ll live in a small town, have land and be able to listen ๐Ÿ‘‚ to the moos of cattle full time. ๐Ÿ„

Looking ahead, there are 6 weeks until Average High 70 ๐ŸŽ‘ when the sun will be setting at 7:06 pm with dusk at 7:34 pm. On that day in 2019, we had partly sunny, patches of fog and temperatures between 79 and 42 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 71 degrees. We hit a record high of 90 back in 1946.

August 2, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Sunday. Rain showers and mostly cloudy with a few breaks of sun and 65 degrees, in a hammock at Cole Hill State Forest in Berne, NY. โ˜” There is a south-southeast breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 64 degrees. The skies will clear around 3 pm.

So last night I went to Grace’s summer party at her mountain farm. ๐Ÿ‘ Beautiful land and old hippie type of farm house ๐Ÿก surrounded by wildflower gardens up a steep mountain. She’s still working in Albany, going to be a heck of a commute for her come winter.

Afterwards I decided to spend the night up at Cole Hill State Forest. โ›บ Just a simple set up with a hammock strung between some trees and flashlight ๐Ÿ”ฆ. I didn’t bother with a fire, I just laid back listening some podcasts under the moonlit skies. I didn’t even pack anything for breakfast, I’ll eat when I get home.

It wasn’t a bad evening ๐Ÿ’ฆalthough there was a a few rain showers during the middle of the night and I ended up splashing DEET on due to the mosquitoes. ๐Ÿœ

Today will have a chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 10am. Some of the storms could be severe. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฉ, with a high of 82 degrees at 4pm. Typical for today. Maximum dew point of 71 at 2pm. South wind 6 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. The high last year was 86 degrees. The record high of 97 was set in 1975.

I have the kayak and fishing pole on me ๐ŸŽฃ and I’m thinking of heading over to White Birch Pond to do some fishing later. I guess it depends on how hungry I am or if how much rain we get early ๐Ÿ’ง, I don’t really have any additional food on me. As morning has broke the day has gotten nicer but there is still a lot of storms popping up on the radar. โšฝ

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 1:04 pm with sun having an altitude of 64.9ยฐ from the due south horizon (-5.8ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.8 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:37 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (289ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (295ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:17 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 12 seconds with dusk around 8:47 pm, which is one minute and 11 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Full ๐ŸŒ Moon in the southeast (127ยฐ) at an altitude of 6ยฐ from the horizon, 241,004 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:28 pm. At sunset, look for rain showers ๐ŸŒง and thunderstorms ๐ŸŒฉ and temperatures around 77 degrees. The dew point will be 71 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 10 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 25 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 14 seconds over yesterday.

I tell you, every time I am out in the country ๐Ÿฎ I am super jealous about those who make a living and a place to live in the mountains. ๐Ÿ—ป Some day I tell myself, I just need to work hard and save more money.

Tonight will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 10pm. Some of the storms could be severe. Partly cloudy ๐ŸŒฉ, with a low of 66 degrees at 5am. Five degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 71 at 7pm. South wind 8 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies. It became sticky as the night progressed. It got down to 66 degrees. The record low of 44 occurred back in 1976.

June 3, 2020 Morning

Good morning! What day is it? It’s a dusty delta day, of course. So Bobby Gentrie made famous with the Ode to Billie Joe. Good day for throwing flowers ๐ŸŒธ off bridges. Three weeks to Latest Sunset ๐ŸŒ†. Cloudy and 61 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ There is a south breeze at 9 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 56 degrees. The skies will clear around 4 pm.

Nice morning, heading out for my morning walk in a bit. ๐Ÿšถ Pancakes and coffee โ˜• for breakfast then it’s down to work, a busy day ahead. Busy enough I actually ended up doing some work last evening before bed. That’s why I ended up skipping on the blog post for the night.

After work or in the off chance I have downtime today I’ll start packing for camping โ›บ. I am probably going to go up to the Adirondacks for 4-5 days, although it’s a bit uncertain based on the weather. More remote work this week although with the Capital Region in Phase 2 I tend to think my office ๐Ÿข will be reopening soon. I haven’t heard anything from CDTA when the bus service will resume but I expect it’s coming back relatively soon. I will probably camp at the campsite where I have the good cell phone reception ๐Ÿ“ถ and lots of sun for solar. This time I’m not bringing the kayak just because working up there I need the solar in the day time and it’s kind of pain to take on and off repeatedly.

Today will have a chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 1pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 77 degrees at 3pm. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 10th. Maximum dew point of 63 at 12pm. South wind 9 to 15 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. The high last year was 65 degrees. The record high of 97 was set in 1925.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:55 pm with sun having an altitude of 69.8ยฐ from the due south horizon (-1.1ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.2 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:47 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (295ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (302ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:29 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 25 seconds with dusk around 9:02 pm, which is 44 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Full ๐ŸŒ Moon in the southeast (142ยฐ) at an altitude of 24ยฐ from the horizon, 228,490 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:47 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 73 degrees. The dew point will be 60 degrees. There will be a west breeze at 14 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 9 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 8 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 58 degrees at 5am. Five degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around June 19th. Maximum dew point of 60 at 7pm. West wind 6 to 14 mph. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 47 degrees. The record low of 36 occurred back in 1947.

Right now, a split verdict on the weekend. ๐Ÿ˜• Saturday, a chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 82. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Maximum dew point of 64 at 8am. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 73. Maximum dew point of 52 at 6am. Typical average high for the weekend is 75 degrees.

As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until Latest Sunset ๐ŸŒ† when the sun will be setting at 8:37 pm with dusk at 9:12 pm. On that day in 2019, we had partly cloudy and temperatures between 85 and 56 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 80 degrees. We hit a record high of 96 back in 1943.

 Busy Spring Morning

May 7, 2020 Night

Good evening! Rain showers and 48 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜” There is a west breeze at 8 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Temperatures will drop below freezing at Saturday around 2 am and it will snow for a while. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Today was a modestly busy day at work ๐Ÿ’ผ, I also worked down at the library parking lot for a bit. Got busy and didn’t have a chance really to research screen houses anymore. Hiked in the afternoon at Papscanee Nature Preserve and then got groceries at Aldi’s. I just like shopping ๐Ÿช there during the pandemic as it’s fast in and out. They don’t have everything, I might do an online order at Wal-Mart if I can come up with $35 in things that I need.

While I was at the library there was a big protest past town hall about the quarantine business restrictions. โœŠ It certainly was loud. ๐Ÿ“ข Lots of horn honking. I think it’s good that people’s voices are being heard, it can’t only be the suits that are making all the decisions without the public’s voice being heard. ๐Ÿ‘“ Doctors and scientists know a lot but they can’t be the only voice heard from.

Tonight will have a chance of showers, mainly before 1am. Mostly cloudy early, then becoming mostly clear ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 36 degrees at 6am. Nine degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 12th. West wind 8 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. At 10 PM, the moon was in the southeast (128ยฐ) at an altitude of 13ยฐ from the horizon, some 229,566 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. ๐Ÿš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by October 28th. Buckle up for safety! ๐Ÿ’บ The Flower ๐ŸŒท Moon is on Friday, May 22. The darkest hour is at 12:53 am, followed by dawn at 5:11 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:43 am in the east-northeast (66ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 10 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 14 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:22 am with sun in the east-northeast (73ยฐ). The record high of 97 degrees was set back in 1919.

Looking ahead, Strawberry Moon ๐ŸŒ• is a month away.

Nice Way To Spend An Evening

May 6, 2020 Night

Good evening! Cloudy and 49 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ There is a northwest breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The skies will clear tomorrow around 5 am. Not a half bad night, I went out for my evening walk. Honestly, though I do wish I had done more walking but it was kind of a cloudy and gray day. Plus I had some work come in at the end of the day, so I never made it out to Five Rivers like I thought about going out earlier in the day.

Kind of a rather quiet day although work was modestly busy. ๐Ÿ’ผ I ended up spending quite a bit of the morning at the library parking lot, doing work and then working on several blog posts. Then I came home and worked on a few other little projects, going through a lot of old digital elevation model data I downloaded some time ago. Honestly I am feeling a lot better on the doxycycline but still awful tired. I’m hoping by tomorrow things really start to kick in. Already I’m not so sore. I do hate ticks.

Tonight will have isolated showers before midnight. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 39 degrees at 5am. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 21st. Northwest wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2019, we had cloudy skies. It got down to 49 degrees. The record low of 29 occurred back in 1874.

Tonight will have a Full ๐ŸŒ Moon with 99% illuminated. At 10 PM, the moon was in the southeast (136ยฐ) at an altitude of 24ยฐ from the horizon, some 227,867 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. ๐Ÿš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by October 26th. Buckle up for safety! ๐Ÿ’บ The Flower ๐ŸŒท Moon is on Thursday, May 7. The darkest hour is at 12:53 am, followed by dawn at 5:12 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:44 am in the east-northeast (66ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 10 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 14 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:23 am with sun in the east-northeast (73ยฐ). Tonight will have 9 hours and 39 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 21 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have isolated showers after 2pm. Mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 62 degrees at 4pm. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 24th. Light northwest wind becoming west 6 to 11 mph in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 66 degrees. The record high of 92 was set in 1930. 0.2 inches of snow fell back in 1967.โ„

In four weeks on June 3 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (302ยฐ) at 8:28 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 26 minutes and 49 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 65 and 44 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 75 and 53 degrees. The record high of 97 degrees was set back in 1925.

So yes, June is just around the corner.๐Ÿ– It is coming so quickly with everything is PAUSE. I am not expecting the swimming pools to be open this summer, although I expect the potholers to be cool and water in the various swimming holes to be quite refreshing. I do worry that it might be a bit hot working this summer from home, so I’m hoping at least my air conditioned office downtown will be open. I’m not interested in getting air conditioning at home, just like I refuse to have Internet at home.

Looking ahead, Latest Sunset ๐ŸŒ† is in 7 weeks and Inauguration Day 2021 ๐Ÿ‘ด๐Ÿป is in 37 weeks.

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿฆ…Only 16 days remain until the start of Memorial Day Weekend!๐Ÿฆ…๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

Springtime View

May 4, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy 8 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ‡! Two weeks to Flower Moon ๐ŸŒ•. Partly sunny and 57 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a west-northwest breeze at 11 mph. ๐Ÿƒ.

It is a rather beautiful morning, โ˜€ I got out and got some fresh air before getting down to work this morning. Its going to be much colder this week so I figure enjoy it before it gets nastier out. โ˜

Today will start out partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 57 degrees at 9am. Clouds will push in by midday. Nine degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 13th. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 67 degrees. The record high of 91 was set in 1944. There was a dusting of snow in 1986.โ„

Today in the afternoon I’m going to head to the laundromat ๐Ÿ‘š and get my clothes washed while I work out in my truck. They have Wi-Fi there and it should be a decent enough day to work in my truck.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:53 pm with sun having an altitude of 63.5ยฐ from the due south horizon (-7.3ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 3 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:20 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (287ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (293ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:00 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 8 seconds with dusk around 8:30 pm, which is one minute and 7 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Full ๐ŸŒ Moon in the southeast (132ยฐ) at an altitude of 36ยฐ from the horizon, 226,292 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:09 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 53 degrees. Breezy, 16 mph breeze โ›… from the northwest with gusts up to 26mph. Today will have 14 hours and 14 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 24 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming clear โ˜, with a low of 34 degrees at 5am. 10 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 7th. Northwest wind 8 to 14 mph. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became light rain by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 52 degrees. The record low of 29 occurred back in 1974.

Bitterly cold weekend on tap for March, I mean May. โ„ Saturday, a chance of rain and snow. Snow in May in Albany. Not just the outlying areas. Partly sunny, with a high near 49. I checked, it was colder in 1977. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 51. Typical average high for the weekend is 67 degrees.

Needless to say I plan to stay in town this weekend โ˜€ but I might try to go somewhere close and do some hiking. ๐Ÿšถ I want to figure out what kind of screen house I want to buy for camping as if I go north the following weekend I’m sure the bugs will be our full blast. Although I’m learning more towards Duck Pond in Schoharie County.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Flower Moon ๐ŸŒ• when the sun will be setting at 8:14 pm with dusk at 8:46 pm. On that day in 2019, we had partly cloudy and temperatures between 73 and 46 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 70 degrees. We hit a record high of 94 back in 2017.

 Old Farm House

May 3, 2020 10 PM Update

Good evening! Partly clear and 64 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a west breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 46 degrees. Nice evening, sat out back for a while. Not feeling terrible but still a little achy from the Lyme. I still need to take the doxycline I got from the doctor Friday. ๐Ÿ’Š

Sleeping with the windows open tonight โฌ› which is nice until I heard the sirens from the meat wagon ๐Ÿš‘go roaring by. I wonder if it’s somebody dying of Coronavirus? Hopefully nobody I know. It’s a question one always asks these days.

I thought about staying up north one more night and driving home early tomorrow ๐Ÿš˜ but I decided against that as I broke camp midday to go hiking. ๐Ÿšถ While hiking the remote section of the abandoned Dunning Pond Snowmobile Trail was quiet I eventually lost the trail as it got into dense woods with lots of trees down and few of the old markers. ๐Ÿ”ด Some nice views of the gorge and then a lot of it was an eroded mountain road until the trail left the road and disappeared into the woods. This wouldn’t have been a big problem if I had the GPS tracks from my Google County Maps part of the blog but of course I managed to somehow delete them off my phone. I got to make sure I have them on the phone along with USGS Topo maps saved. I would have also had a better chance of following the herd path up to Eagle Pond that I had lost on Saturday if I had that data saved. ๐ŸŒWell there always is future trips up north.

It was a pretty good weekend up north ๐Ÿ˜Ž with lots of sun and actually quite mild and warm most of the weekend except for brief rain shower around 10 pm Saturday night ๐Ÿ’ฆwhen I ended up retiring to my truck cap earlier than I had planned. Had a nice big fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ at the same campsite I’ve been at the past few times I’ve been up north on the East Branch Sacandaga River. โ›บ Some traffic ๐Ÿšฅ noise but pretty nice. Spent a lot of time laying back in the hammock, soaking up the sun. โ˜€ The sun felt good especially when I felt achy from the Lyme. Warm enough a good portion of the weekend I could just lay out with a t shirt ๐Ÿ‘š on.

Left my Bluetooth speaker ๐Ÿ”Š home which was annoying when I wanted to listen to podcasts and music ๐ŸŽถ. I’m going to start leaving that in the truck. Better to charge it there too – I don’t pay for the unused solar power the truck produces while parked with the solar controller in float mode. ๐Ÿ”‹ Also forgot ketchup for my hotdogs – ended up topping them with baked beans and cheese. ๐Ÿฃ

Explored more of the Fox Lair remains, I want to do one of those historical aerial photo comparisons, especially if I can find the 1942 aerial photo ๐Ÿ“ท. Not a lot left of the ruins, but I wonder if I can find more old pictures on the internet. ๐ŸฐDid some walking ๐Ÿšถ along NY 8 just for exercise too and to take in the scenery.

Came back relatively early, I was unpacked by about six. ๐Ÿก Laid back on my bed for a while before showering ๐Ÿšฟ and shaving. Got a nice tan. Those side burns I’ve grown are coming in nicely but I do need a hair cut ๐Ÿ’‡. I’m going to do some trimming myself in the morning as who knows when the barber ๐Ÿ’ˆ is going to be allowed to reopen. My barber is so elderly, I wonder if he will just hang up his hat ๐ŸŽฉ after the pandemic. I decided to avoid the expressway and cities home so I took NY 30 to Duanesburg Churches Road past the Mariaville Farm to US 20. Pretty drive with things greening up outside Amsterdam but I tell you there are some sharp curves on NY 30 south of Amsterdam. ๐Ÿ”ถ

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 49 degrees at 6am. Five degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 21st. West wind 6 to 8 mph. In 2019, we had cloudy skies. It got down to 52 degrees. The record low of 28 occurred back in 1985.

Tonight will have a Waxing Gibbous ๐ŸŒ” Moon with 85% illuminated. At 10 PM, the moon was in the south (175ยฐ) at an altitude of 52ยฐ from the horizon, some 226,511 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. ๐Ÿš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by October 22nd. Buckle up for safety! ๐Ÿ’บ The Flower ๐ŸŒท Moon is on Thursday, May 7. The darkest hour is at 12:53 am, followed by dawn at 5:16 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:48 am in the east-northeast (68ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 8 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 19 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:27 am with sun in the east-northeast (74ยฐ). Tonight will have 9 hours and 46 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 24 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have a slight chance of showers between 11am and 1pm. Partly sunny ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 57 degrees at 11am. Nine degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 13th. Northwest wind 9 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning, which became light rain by afternoon. The high last year was 67 degrees. The record high of 91 was set in 1944. There was a dusting of snow in 1986.โ„

Tomorrow I probably should go to the laundromat ๐Ÿ‘–๐Ÿ‘• ๐Ÿ‘š and wash some clothes and probably my sheets too. I can probably bring my laptop there and work from there, uploading pictures from the weekend that was. I’m good on food but the two gallons of milk I bought last week is almost all drunk. I do like my cow ๐Ÿฎ beverages. Other than that I should be good on food until mid week.

As I noted previously, last weekend I got another tick bite. ๐ŸœI was sore found it on Tuesday. Its been weird – sometimes I feel fine other times terribly stiff and sore. No bulls eye though. Went to the doctor on Friday, she kind of thought I didn’t have Lyme but gave me doxycline. ๐Ÿ’Š I held off taking it as I went to the Adirondacks for the weekend and knew doxycline and sun don’t mix due to the risk of severe sunburn. I’m also a little mixed on my concern – it stings from time to time around where I was bit, I’ve been super sleepy at times. ๐Ÿ˜ด I don’t want to take an antibiotic I don’t need. But I guess the doctor while questioning ๐Ÿ™‹ me said I should take it. I don’t know what to think.

It was such a werid experience going to the doctors office during the pandemic. ๐Ÿ˜ซThe doors had big signs warning people that if they had cold or flu symptoms they aren’t welcome and that they did not offer Coronavirus testing there. The whole experience was kind of odd and frightening. ๐Ÿ‘พ

While I’m always cautious about social distancing and wearing a mask out in public places but between the limited vision under the banada, the empty doctors office, the hand sanitizer everywhere and all these things like a special Coronavirus questionnaire that I had to do on my phone before the doctor would see me. ๐Ÿ“ฑ I was so creeped out by the experience.

In four weeks on May 31 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (301ยฐ) at 8:26 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 27 minutes and 53 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had partly cloudy, mist and temperatures between 76 and 55 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 74 and 52 degrees. The record high of 92 degrees was set back in 2013.

It looks like for Mothers Day it’s going to be cold and they might get snow in the Adirondacks. โ„ It does not look like a good weekend to get out of town. I’m still thinking about a mid May trip out to Schoharie County – maybe three nights with me working from my truck on a Monday. โ›บ I’m thinking the last week of May – the one after Memorial Day Weekend – to do a three night trip to Piseco Powley Road starting that Thursday night before the weekend if it is nice. I hope to have the screen house by then to avoid the bugs. Peak black fly season isn’t so bad if I have shelter during the day as black flies aren’t out after dark. Memorial Day Weekend proper I’ll stay home ๐Ÿก most likely to avoid the crowds especially if other developed campgrounds are closed forcing people into the back country taking up all the good sites. I’m also seriously thinking about planning my summer vacation up at Piseco Powley Road – and a week at the House Pond Swimming Hole could make up for all the state park pools being closed. ๐ŸŠ I’d have to see about getting a camping permit.

Looking ahead, Mothers Day ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€ is in 1 week, Pack Rat Day ๐Ÿ€ is in 2 weeks, Strawberry Moon ๐ŸŒ• is in 5 weeks, Fathers Day ๐Ÿ‘จ is in 6 weeks, Election Day 2020 ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ is in 6 months and Election Day 2020 ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ is in 6 months.

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿฆ…Only 19 days remain until the start of Memorial Day Weekend!๐Ÿฆ…๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

Tulip Time!
